the code to unlock the network was entered several times and possibly blocked
the operator provided the Network Code but does not provide the Sim Network PUK.
what is the best way to unlock and allow placing SIM from other networks?

My wife talked to a tech at ATT and he gave her some instructions for unlocking her SX56.
1) Insert a blank SIM
2) Power up unit and enter the 8 digit unlock code.
I think these instructions were either incomplete or bogus. When we put in a blank SIM the SX56 asked for a PIN number and not an unlock code. The unlock code did not work in the place of he PIN number.
Is it possible to unlock this way?
I dont know what you mean by a blank sim, just put a sim from any other provider. I think the pin you were asked for is your sim card pin number, if you enter this wrongly too many times it will block the sim. You need to enter your pin, then you will be asked for sid code, that is where you enter the code.
I have a Rogers Samsung Focus and I purchased an unlock code. When I insert my Fido sim card it doesn't prompt me to enter a unlock code but my phone says "sim error". I tried using the secondary option "#7465625*638*CODE#" and it doesn't do anything not even invalid code. Am I missing a step? Please help
that's strange. rogers & fido are basically the same network now. I've been able to swap sim cards between them without unlocking. maybe there is a problem with your sim. sorry I cant help more.

when I place in my replacement sim it asks for a PUK
I have tried the sims PUK, orange PUK - sim error
No code works
I have an unlock code to put in but cannot get to the unlock code stage

Your sim card is locked. You need to find the box you got your sim in and find your sim pin.
If you don't have the sim pin you will have to ring your service provider to get the puk code to be able to reset the pin.
