Hello!
I want to finally install a custom rom for my phone (GT-I9301I) but to do that I want to install TWRP. Every tutorial on how to install TWRP just use odin and phone in download mode despite the fact that in a lot of places it is said that you need to have an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom recovery. (Also in CF-auto root webpage it is stated that bootloader needs to be unlocked). But do I really need to unlock the bootloader (yes, I am new to this) to flash a custom recovery when using Odin? And after the TWRP is installed I can just use CF auto root and then install the ROM, right?
I would greatly appreciate your help !
Thanks in advance,
TheKiloOhm
I'm pretty sure, that S3Neo+ has an unlocked bootloader.
There is a way to flash a recovery without a PC. Use Flashify just from the Play Store.

But I need root access which I can get by flashing CF auto root.
Is Towelroot considered as a common rooting tool?

Is there a way I can check it? When I boot into recovery it doesn't show anything about lock/unlock state.

Well.. Try booting to download mode. (Vol. and center button down on boot). If you want to root you should download custom recovery. I recommend TWRP.
Ok, first of all..
I AM REALLY HAPPY SOMEONE MENTIONED THIS AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST
Now.. I have this device.. and mine is bootloader locked
our s3ve3g is definitely locked...
and I tried to flash TWRP using ODIN and I ended up looping (Read)
So Take Care ...
Been trying to find a way to unlock this thing for a while now... will post my findings here or on my blog if I ever find anything
Edit: Did I mention that some variants of our specific device are locked and some are not !!
and I can't figure out the difference...
Found this
and it pointed me to this
but I don't have time to test now...
OK... I think I found the answer...
According to IanWorthington

Unlock bootloader officially or unofficially. White ASUS Splashcreen will appear if unlocked successfully. Then go to bootloader then flash your twrp and now you can install customs ROM.
You can still root your device without unlocking bootloader or flashing twrp. Just download a pre-rooted firmware then flash using commands.

Can this be done within the stock recovery of the phone, or are you talking about something else?

You dont need to be in the recovery to this, you just need to be in bootloader mode, connect your device to you computer then fastboot flash the parts of the pre-rooted firmware using fastboot commands.

Thanks, but I went with the one-click root and just unlocked the bootloader. I installed the Xperia rom and it's working really good. I've just waited to root this bish because I had to send it back to asus two times for repair " what a pain in the ****ing ass too "

With stock recovery you can flash only official updates.
Ok. I figured that. I can't unlock or root this Asus zenfone 551kl. Fast boot tells me it's unlocked but it's not. Won't root. Won't do anythimg. I've tried every unlock tool for every variant. None work. No one click root apps work. It's mind boggling lol
You have to flash with twrp not the stock recovery
I'm posting this since so many users don't know they can root theirs G930T, G935T G930TUVS8CRL1 bootloader
huge thanks for @jrkruse @klabit87 and others were involved in this, as you know S7 family phones don't have unlocked bootloader, this just allow to root the phone and then use flashfire to get custom ROM with the root.

but I have after downloaded and did the procedure for eng root the phone is still showing root not available
i am on sm-g935t
Hi, I really appreciate your efforts in this regard. I need help with the procedure. I downloaded the file and just flashed it(without extracting to .lz4 format) in 'AP' tab. It flashed successfully. Then, I restarted my mobile and it said that some unauthorized access was found, please restart to undo any changes. Am I missing some step? like root.bat script? Or I just need to flash this provided file as I did. I am using 930T(v8 bootloader)

Hello again,is this finally the u9 eng bootloader ?
https://www.yemenprofessional.com/2019/05/sm-g930t-rev-9-engroot.html?m=1#more
Here is the U9 eng boot for the G935T
with this file I successfully root as is posted above
https://alseery.blogspot.com/2019/03/eng-root-g935-U9.html
sm-g935t verified working Rooted.
The Eng bootloader has been updated, and is working on security release March 1st 2019 with S9.
Flashed Resurrection Remix N [5.8.5] on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500, and enabled root access for ADB from developer settings.
But I want total root access, so for that, I tried the way I rooted my phone when it had stock ROM, but uh oh, it didn't work. Not only that, it replaced TWRP with stock recovery.
I've searched so much and everywhere leads to Magisk root, which needs TWRP to be flashed, which needs root to be flashed. Of course, it's not that simple, but all I've tried from fastboot to Odin didn't work.
I just wanted to uninstall the bloatware and look where I am now. Could anyone help please? Thanks in advance.
Samsung devices do not recognize fastboot. Never have, and never will. You need to download the latest version of TWRP, in .tar format, from here and flash that in the AP slot in Odin. Then you'll have TWRP and can flash Magisk.

Hello
I asked elsewhere. I wanted to ask you too. Is it possible to temporarily install twrp? I do not intend to install custom roms.

For most devices you can connect the device to your computer, open a command prompt on the computer, type "fastboot boot filename.img", and have the device temporarily run TWRP. But this doesn't work with Samsung because Samsung doesn't accept fastboot commands. On Samsung you have to install TWRP using Odin to do what you need.

I understand. I've read a lot on the subject since yesterday. Thank you for your answer. If you have knowledge, can you tell if Magisk Hide s4 works with Stock Rom?

I haven't been on a stock ROM in years, as the stock ROMs are so bloated on the S4 they slow the entire device down. Even debloating doesn't fully help. You'll have to try it for yourself and see if it works.
