HI everyone
I was trying to install Lineage 15.1 on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 through TWRP. But I made a mistake by extracting the zipped rom and zipped GApps and installing that on my phone hardrive.
I couldn't install the OS or GApps. I pressed the button "intall image", which it then found as "boot.img", so I selected that and then installed it under boot partition rather than recovery. Obviously didn't work because I tried to reboot the phone, and it just came up with the Samsung galaxy logo, and the words Set Warranty Bit : Kernel
By pulling the power and re-entering recovery mode, I can get into TWRP no problem. So what should I do now? Is there a way to access my drive and install zip files, can I still install the OS somehow from the unzipped files or can I undo what I've done.
See attached images
Thanks

I was just thinking, maybe I should save the zip files to a microsd card and try to install it that way. But I don't want to make it any worse than it already is
Can't you try re-installing stock rom? (AKA Odin Flash with your Note 4 regional firmware)
Speaking of your Note 4... What is your model number?
Yeah. Having done a bit of reading around the subject I think you're right. I'll give that a go. The model number is N910F
Did what you said webhook. Managed to install Lineage OS. Having a few problems installing MindtheGapps but I'll keep trying. Which version should I be downloading for my Galaxy Note 4 SM-910F? The 32 or 64bit? Thanks
Having a lot of issues with MindtheGApps. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions.
Without realising I should adb sideload the apps, I tried to install them straight after installing lineage. It installed, but then when I entered Lineage, only 3 google apps were available. Play store, google search engine, and Google voice search. No gmail, maps etc. So I figured it hadn't actually installed, and these came packaged with Lineage 15.1. But since then I have wiped the phone and started over with just Lineage. They disappeared.
Then I tried to follow the instructions here (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/taimen/install) which say I need to restart the phone into recovery mode after installing lineage.
Then select "Apply update". This isn't an option for me in my TWRP which is the latest version for Europe.
But it does have Advanced > ADB Sideload. So I selected that to run it, but it fails. Can see all that in my video:
So I'm stuck now. No idea how to get MindtheGapps installed.
Could I maybe try Flashfire or is there some other way round this.
Thanks

You should install other Gapps instead.
Thanks. I did also try Slim Gapps and A-Gapps but those wouldn't even install. At least MindtheGapps did. Any ones in particular you would suggest?

Upon boot, clicking "Try To Solve' and then enabling permissions allowed the Setup Wizard to proceed to launcher screen.
Next, going to Play Store and updating "Google Play Services" sorted the rest out.

Hi I am from Bangladesh, My device is Lenovo K3 note k50-T5 now explain something if i am going to install Lenovo k50a40 than what happening my device,
actually if possible please tell me about this
i can`t well in English
Hi everyone, I had my phone rooted and had TWRP, Magisk fake GPS etc all up and running so I could play a certain GPS based game.
The updated game stopped working so in trying to fix it I ended up factory resetting my phone. So a couple of things, I am trying to follow a guide but I am not sure it is best suited to my current problem. TWRP app says my phone isn't rooted any longer (factory reset?) and when I try to re root the phone I get to this screen but cannot do anything except press volume down key + power key for 7 seconds to reset.
Does it look broken? How do I start all over again with a fresh root to get my phone set up again please?

Twrp does not detect whether your phone is rooted or not.
What guide did you follow?
Stuck at which Samsung logo ( Samsung powered by Android or Samsung with blue led light) and how long did you wait?
Being from a factory reset your phone is probably re-encrypted so you will have to format data and flash no Verity zip again.

All worked well until yesterday when a pokemon update downloaded. So I reverted the game file back a build and it worked again.
Then today I had a notification saying there is a magisk update, in magisk manager it says ""Magisk is not installed. Latest v18.1 (18100)"". Then trying to boot into pokemon go the game will not launch as my software is incompatible.
So basically I figured I will do a phone factory reset and set it all up again with the edited guide since the updates and I am now running into errors. I have managed to since get into the phone and can get into TWRP recovery again but I cannot get magisk to instal, this is my question on reddit and where I am at currently...
Hello everyone,
I am having huge issues here. I was using the pinned guide from here method for around 6 weeks until today. I set my phone back to factory settings as I had a lot of issues. Phone is as new now but TWRP is still installed as a recovery mode available. I am on a samsung galaxy s8.
Whenever I try to install Magisk via TWRP flashing method I get "install magisk failed to mount '/data' (no such process)"
If I reset the phones file system so try EXT 2,3 etc and eventually set it back on EXT 4 then magisk installs seemingly but then my phone resets to factory and I do not see magisk anywhere once setting my phone up again.
Then if I install magisk manager it says "Magisk is not installed. Latest v18.1 (18100)"
I cannot do anymore to get set up until I get magisk going again.
Please can anybody advise?

Can't help with pokemon as I don't play it
In regards with twrp/magisk after you factory reset your phone would have re-encrypted itself so in twrp you will have to format data reboot back into twrp flash the no Verity zip and magisk again.
Note: Once phone is up and running with root I would do a twrp backup first then try your Pokemon guide so if you run into troubles you can restore from backup.

Just go to the OnePlus website under the Support section. It's there, you don't need Oxygen Updater.
Does it really wipe and factory reset, or can we get away with it not?

Just updated and all is well.... Downloaded the full image, removed all magisk modules, reboot, local update option (upper right hand cog in system update menu), then installed magisk directly to other slot, rebooted and all is well.
I'm assuming you wiped because you installed the full update versus using local update option... It even tells you data should be preserved but backup just in case before the procedure.

Nope. Downloaded update, used local storage, and then did the magisk magic, and rebooted thru magisk. Still wiped data. Oh well. Just FYI'ing everyone else
I did it yesterday. Did not suffer any data wipe, followed the guide.

Is it possible you were on the Open Beta before? I have heard rumors that going from Open Beta to Official Release causes unwarned data loss. FWIW, I did this upgrade from official 11.0.1.1 and did *not* experience data loss.
However, and this has now happened (I believe) both with the 11.0.1.1 and 11.0.2.2 upgrades, the official upgrader looks to have swapped A/B slots during the install, as opposed to doing so after the install and immediately before the reboot. The result is that if you follow the guides that tell you to install Magisk to the inactive slot, you'll be hitting the wrong slot.
I suspect people can probably get away with doing a direct Magisk install to what it considers the "active" slot right after the OTA update and then rebooting. For an extra layer of safety, you could do that first and then hit the inactive slot afterwards. You would then likely end up back in your pre-update OS (albeit still having root), so you could switch slots manually with fastboot or do a second install to inactive slot in Magisk Manager to switch slots that way.
I'm curious if others have encountered similar slot weirdness. Perhaps it's dependent on whether one is using Oxygen Updater or the stock updating program. This is my first OP phone, and first experience rooting with A/B slots in general, so I may be overlooking something obvious here.
Hi there,
I've recently taken the plunge and decided to root my phone. I followed all the instructions and everything went fine except I can't get Magisk to install. When I run root checker it confirms my phone is successfully rooted, see screenshot.

But when I go into Magisk it fails the installation saying 'Unable to check signature'. See screenshots below
Looking at the installation instructions here https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html I believe as Ramdisk is 'Yes', then my phone is ready to install Magisk. I believe that if I patch my phone with a boot.img file then I should be able to successfully install Magisk. However, 1) I'm not sure it will given the error I'm getting and 2) wherever I search I cannot seem to download the correct firmware for my phone to be able to get the correct boot.img file that I need. Here are the screenshots showing the installed software version.
I'd be super appreciative to anyone that can advise me as to what to do next to try and resolve the installation issues so that I can benefit from the wonders of Magisk.
Thank you

Hi. Thank you for your reply and advice. I flashed Magisk using TWRP recovery but it still won't install. Here is the screenshot. I also uninstalled the App and re-downloaded as per these instructions https://bit.ly/32P3Z9z but I still get the same error
Do you or anyone else have any more suggestions please?

I downloaded the IMG file of the BRJ4 raw boot image from firmware.mobi, successfully patched it via the Magisk app, and subsequently flashed the patched boot image via TWRP (selecting the boot partition within TWRP).
However, the Magisk card within the app still displays N/A within the app.

I trieded both Software but this could not solve my problem.
One thing that you should probably know is that development of TWRP for the S6 Lite was stopped due to various issues, and the developer has no interest in resuming. If/when you get the issue with your tablet resolved, you'll have to flash and use LineageOS recovery to install LineageOS, Magisk, GApps, etc.

Hold on....are you saying that the Lineage Recovery can be used instead of TWRP?? I was under the impression that TWRP had to be installed to use Lineage? It didnt escape me that there was a Lineage recovery file, but since everything i read insisted TWRP recovery had to be used I just kept on trying to install it (failing every time...definition of insanity).
OP.....I have soft bricked and reinstalled the stock ROM on my device literally DOZENS of times trying to install TWRP....are you absolutely sure you have the correct one for your device? Maybe the stoc ROM you have has a glitch in it? If you are positive that you have a S6 lite, wifi only, pm me and maybe i can send you a copy of my stock ROM? If i can help i will gladly pay it forward.

Yup, it certainly can. LOS Recovery is pretty basic compared to TWRP, but it supports the S6 Lite's SD card as well as USB OTB and ADB sideloading. You have to flash one file at a time, though, and every time you access the card it starts at the root directory (rather than remembering the last directory you were in), but those are minor annoyances. Also, flashing Magisk will trigger a warning regarding file signing, but you can override it and it'll work just fine (just wanted to FYI this bit). I truly wish we had a fully functioning TWRP, but since we don't, LOS Recovery will have to do.

You are my hero! I am sending this from my tablet with a SUCCESSFULLY installed Lineage OS. I LOVE not having all the Samsung crap taking up space. Nothing. The main reason to install Magisk is if you were going to root your tablet. If you aren't going to do that, Magisk offers very little benefit, thus you can safely skip it.
Glad to hear you got LOS installed and running! It certainly does breathe new life into the S6 Lite.
