I've unlocked a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G (32B) for AT&T. I rooted my phone yesterday purely out of spirit for experimentation. I've installed CyanogenMod-4.2.8.1, found on the website. I'm trying to connect to the market, but no type of data connection is being made.
The unusual part is that I have full signal strength. E or G sometimes pops on, but then drops off. I've quadruple-checked the APN settings, and they're fine. However, I did notice at one point the password had been deleted. I am aware that my phone version is not able to get on 3G band (although I'd like to find a hardware mod~)
I'm almost certain it's the Cyanogen ROM simply because before rooting, I had no data problems. Seems even a WiFi connection won't give me data. I've searched the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem, but it doesn't seem so. Any ideas?
Disabled WiFi and I have data. Apparently the two don't get along well. Just noticed an update to the ROM, so we shall see what will happen!
Or, if anyone has any suggestions on an alternative ROM, I'm not looking for anything too fancy (the MyTouch is serving as pure novelty at the moment; HTC Fuze is my primary phone). Speed and battery optimizations are most prefered, bluetooth/USB tethering a plus, and if it runs aHome or Home++ without a hitch, I'd be content.
I just upgraded to CM 4.2.9.1 on my MT3G 32B and am having data issues. Could it be a coincidence? Could it be T-Mobile upgrading to HPSA? Or could it be CM?
It's possible to be the ROM, as I'm on the AT&T network. I'll give the updated ROM a test as soon as I get some time to it.
Try reflashing radio. http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html
Works fine on my 32B Magic. Tried running fix_permissions, wiping and reflashing?
Got the same problem on my G1 with 4.2.9.1
When Wifi is active, after about 10 minutes i have no data connection anymore.
If i disable wifi i don't get this problem
i too have had this problem on my three magic 32a. i rebooted this morning and it went back to normal though. have only seen it once so i can't really comment on the cause. typically i have wifi always on and location by networks off...
How did you install CM?
Did you install the HTC 1.6 rooted base first, then the CM image after without re-booting?
You have to the first time you install CM. You don't say whether you did or didn't.
Did you remember to configure the APN correctly???
maybe related to instal issue?
I have the same issue but did "install the HTC 1.6 rooted base first, then the CM image after without re-booting". However upon booting into Cyanogen, I couldn't get past the "touch the android" screen and thus had to boot back into recovery mode and clear all data. After reboot I was able to pass the touch the android screen, but perhaps that wiped the 1.6 base settings?
Do I need to re-install, what if i have the same problem with getting past touching the android again?
I haven't tried updating the radio, but will try that first.
mobile network data
Found it: looks like toggle for mobile network data is turning it self off. Other than to conserve battery / airplane mode is there ever a reason to have it off? (is it bad to have on with WiFi?)
thanks.

Should of stayed with t-mobile.
I'm fairly new to this, but I have tried searching and couldnt find anything that helps.
The issue is 4g. It will connect work for a while and then the connection freezes (meaning it still shows a solid connection but doesn't allow any data traffic). If i toggle the 4g it usually hangs at obtaining an ip address, but at some random point in the future is will connect (usually 20-30 minutes or longer). This has been going on for about two weeks.
I am currently running the mikfroyo 4.4 (with built in kernel) and the current radios (2.15.00.11.19, 1.90_003, prl 60675, wimax 27167). I have updates the prl and profile every time I do something.
I have tried wiping and reloading the rom, putting old radios back, restoring to a NAND back os steelrom and mikfroyo and it is still the same.
Any ideas?
Hello
I hope I am not the only one with the issue in which the device does not lock on LTE service consistently . It randomly switches between H/3G and sometimes randomly LTE shows up and drops back to H .
Users have reported it connects to LTE on reboot at times or by toggling data on/off to get LTE.
My current setup :
Stock ROM , 6.0.1 rooted with SuperSU 2.61 systemless and have tried both EX and stock kernel.
I just flashed the old 6.0 radio and will report findings when i move from my current location , its connected to LTE right now for the past few minutes.
Edit : Here is the issue tracker to report the issue to Google :
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197102
I ADB sideloaded the OTA since I'm stock without root, and I've yet to have any LTE issues on 6.0.1.

same here i factory flashed clean all the images but the issue still persists
As I have mentioned in other threads , I am having this issue as well. On reboots the phone does not always connect to LTE. It will connect to 3G on Verizon and it will not switch over to LTE even though I am in a heavy LTE area. Switching airplane mode on and off will make it connect right onto LTE and there are no issues after that. However something is keeping it from connecting to LTE on reboots at times. It does not happen all the time. Sometimes you will reboot and it will connect to LTE without problem. I have seen reports on the canadian carriers, t - mobile, verizon and ATT. I believe it is probably fairly widespread however most do not notice it. A good way to test for it obviously would be to disconnect from Wifi and reboot your phone 5 or 6 times. See if it reboots to LTE signal every time...
I'm having this issue as well. It doesn't appear to be the radio either. I've tried reflashing the 2.15 radio from the previous build and I still have trouble connecting to LTE. Toggling airplane mode rarely helps for me. However if I switch APNs, then go back to the Nextgenphone APN, this often works. FYI, I'm on AT&T in the US.
Yea, definitely noticing the same issue on T-Mobile. Takes forever for LTE to connect after a restart, it just keeps switching between H and H+.
I'm going to go back to the 2.15 radio since I had zero issues with it and I don't rely on Band 12. If that fixes the problem then I'll wait for a new radio to be pushed out that fixes this annoyance.

For me the 2.15 radio made no difference. I think it's something system related.
I'm on T-Mobile and am seeing this problem. I mostly see the phone toggling between 3G and H (think I saw LTE Once).
I sideloaded the OTA to 6.0.1.
Edit: My LTE popped on after I left the phone alone for awhile. Not sure what the deal is, but something "funny" seems to be going on.
I have noticed that sometimes my wifi will turn off (Tasker toggles it based on certain criteria at times) and I will show the network strength meter, but no LTE indicator above it. Turning wifi back on and off again does not trigger LTE to connect. I have to go into Airplane mode, wait a few seconds then turn it off in order to get LTE to turn on. I am on Verizon stock systemless rooted with Xposed 6.0.1. Don't recall it doing this on 6.0 (any of the builds).

Interesting because over in the Chroma thread people on AT&T are saying that flashing back to the older radio fixes the LTE issue for them. I guess I'll just give it a try on my phone to see what happens and report back.
I'm on Verizon but I'm not having this problem. Fastboot flashed new bootloader, radio, vendor, boot, and system images. Then flashed Cataclysm + SuperSU 2.61 + EX 1.0. My phone is almost always connected to LTE, as it was before the update. I don't notice much difference between cell signal with the new radio.
Update: I just reverted to the older radio (2.15) and my phone connected to LTE immediately upon booting into Android. It also connected automatically to Wi-Fi Calling (I had to manually toggle it off then on to get it working on the 2.50 radio). However, I restarted just to double-check and this time the H/H+ problem cropped up again, but at least Wi-Fi Calling connected automatically. Sadly, resetting Network Settings nor refreshing the APN list solves the issue.
So while reverting to the older radio doesn't seem to fix the LTE issue on T-Mobile, I'm gonna stick with the older radio just because it fixes my issue with Wi-Fi Calling not connecting automatically. Looks like I'll have to just deal with LTE taking a few minutes to connect until it gets fixed by either Google or an XDA dev.
Edit: OK so this is weird. I just rebooted again and this time it connected to LTE immediately. Well, I guess downgrading to the old radio may be a good option if you don't need Band 12 support and are willing to put up with the phone only occasionally having the LTE glitch as opposed to always having the glitch.

Thank you. Have you tried rebooting about 5 times in a row to see if it boots to LTE every time? I am always connected to LTE as well but sometimes i must toggle airplane mode after a reboot because it sticks on 3G. Try being off of wifi and rebooting a hand full of times in a row to see if it always boots to LTE. Also, could you share a screenshot of your APN settings on Verizon possibly?
Anybody have the old radio handy so I don't have to download an entire system image?
I'm on ATT. For what its worth, my LTE hasn't reconnected at all for me. Just shows H.
I've rebooted like 3 times. I want to go back to the old radio to give it a shot and see if it works.

Tried it a few times as well, no dice. Whats funny is I let it sit for about 10 minutes, and eventually H connected to LTE. I'll try rebooting a few more times to see how quickly LTE connects.
Does the bootloader have to be unlocked to get the old radio back?
Interesting i just loaded 6.0.1 on stock no root, coming back from the reboot i only had 3g. Turned airplane on then off and now i have LTE. Seems like something is wrong with 6.0.1, this is on Verizon by the way.
Anyone know how to tell which radio is on your phone? I am on the latest chroma but not sure if the rom installs the new radio (I don't think it does). If it doesn't, anyone have a link to just the new radio?

Just as the title states, I'm having major issues with wifi. It's the phone, it's not the network or router because it works well with all of my other devices. I've tried resetting the router anyway, I've removed the network information in the phone and reentered it. The only thing I think that might have affected it without me knowing at the time was when I left the phone in my car and it overheated. I actually did that twice. If that is what caused the issue then I think I'm out of luck and it's likely not repairable. My first thought was the wifi antenna or something but because it does still connect I don't think that's it. Anyone else have this happen?
How you check your WiFi preferences?
By default WiFi disconnects after certain time...
Make sure is set to "NEVER"
Does it say "Connected, no Internet" and then disconnects and tries to connect again?
Is it switching to 4G because better signal? Turn off aggressive wifi handover in developer options if set. Check other settings too.
Turn off mobile data and see if behaviour is different as a quick test.

I can not find this setting, what menu is it under? I checked in Wi-Fi settings and Wi-Fi>Advanced. I've had the phone for some time now, this happened all of a sudden.

In the notification bar it would still show Wi-Fi signal status (on, with full bars) but it would go from displaying "network name" to simply displaying "Wi-Fi". If I long press it takes me to Wi-Fi setting and I can reconnect manually. If I turn wifi off and back on then it DOES NOT auto connect back to the network, despite the fact that the network is saved.

It happens when I have full Wi-Fi signal. Auto switching is apparently turned off, as mentioned above. When I turn off mobile data, it still disconnects from the network, leaving me with no data connection at all. Developer options were off, but I turned it on and checked but that option is off.

What Android are you using?
You could update to 7 / 8.0.0 US Beta or use a custom like me. Im currently on Android 9 Treble Pixel Experience and its working nice.

I'm running 7.1.1, B35. It would be nice if it was just a software issue, although I hate having to back everything up and wipe it. I haven't been keeping up with development, how reliable are A2017U flashes now? I think I remember them being risky with this phone when I first got it. Is any functionality lost? I would prefer to wait for the OTA 8.0 update since it seems to be coming but maybe...
I'm having this problem but mine says that the wifi manager has disabled wifi permanently. I can start it manually and it will connect to the internet for a few minutes then revert back to disabled. This happened after the 7.1.1 update.

ZTE Germany just released a message on their Facebook saying they're in their last stages of testing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta and will release it officially soon. This can be as long as one to three months away, or even longer.
If you're running stock, then flashing a custom rom will provide you with more functionality and performance. Battery life will definitely be shorter though, so say if you're getting 6-7 hours of Screen-on-Time on stock 7.1, you'll get around 4-5 on a custom rom. This entirely depends on your usage however. Flashing custom roms is quite easy and risk-free if you know what you're doing, and follow a good guide. Check Oki's guide on how to flash an 8.1 treble rom if you'd like. The current LineageOS 15 and 16 builds drain quite a lot of battery compared to other roms. If you'd like a good and stable Android 8.1 Rom, I'd recommend NFound's AEX 5.8. If you're like some of us (me included), you can live life on the cutting-edge and flash a Android 9 Pie rom. I wouldn't recommend it though as unless you know what you're doing with a GSI, DON'T flash one.
Always backup before attempting anything.

A few weeks ago my Axon 7 started doing the exact same thing that you describe. Were you able to find a solution?
Same for me, I'm having the exact same issue.
Did any one of you find the solution for it? :/
Since getting this phone last week, I love it, except for 2 issues. First, the hotspot, after disabling it, still shows up on my laptop as an available connection, and when this happens, the battery drain is significant. This happened 2 nights ago, I had disabled the hotspot before going to bed, and battery drained from full charge to ~55% overnight.
I noticed this issue the first day I had it, and tried a factory reset. That did not resolve the issue.
Today, to add another wrinkle to the problem, bluetooth would not connect to any of my devices. I used the option to "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth," which worked for the bluetooth, but not for the hotspot. I had to reboot the phone for that to work properly.
In some troubleshooting on the hotspot issue, when disabling the hotspot, my laptop will disconnect, but it still shows the hotspot from the phone as an available connection, though it can't connect at that moment. This problem isn't consistent, though it's happened at least twice.
I'm running the latest stock Essential software.
If anyone has had any experience with this issue, or has found a solution, please share your knowledge. Thanks!
I never had problems with BT when this was my primary phone.
What made me switch back to my Huawei Mate 9, was the signal issue I had with the Essential.
I mean everything on this phone worked PERFECT, but, using the straight talk sim (tracfone/at&t),
I had problems maintaining a signal at time, where I NEVER had signal problems before.

That's interesting. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with this phone being a universal carrier phone. I'm on Verizon, and this phone is perfect on signal strength. Since the Huawei is a GSM only phone, perhaps it works better with GSM carriers.
By the way, nice signature. I'm the co-host, AKA sideshow, for Armed Lutheran Radio.

Don't really know...it has the GSM bands that at&t uses, 2,4,5,17,30
I think it might be similar to when Apple slapped a metal cover on the back of their phones and
had signal issues. One of these days when I'm bored or snowed in, I might play around with seeing I
can get the back off and see if that changes anything.
I know its not what you wanna hear but try putting it on 3G mode only.
Where i live i get inconsistent or no signal if im in 4G mode from T-Mobile. If i travel south to a bigger city, i can run 4G all day long and no issues. If you get H+(3G) when you set it to 3G, then it might be a band/carrier issue with 4G in your area.
