hi, i want to purchase the nexus 7 lte but it's important that i be able to use it with my existing verizon data plan (eventually). i've read the threads and understand they will be certifying it (eventually). i don't want to wait to purchase it so i want to make sure i'm buying the correct model (for verizon activation later). i noticed there are 3 versions being sold at google playstore: 1) with AT&T sim, 2) with T-Mobile sim 3) Unlocked. would the unlock version be the correct device to get or will they be coming out with another model, once verizon completes their testing and certifies it? thanks for any advice.

I purchased the Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013) which came with the T-Mobile SIM.
I took my microSIM card out of my Samsung Galaxy S4 (verizon) and put it into my Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013) and verizon LTE data worked fine. I forwarded my Verizon phone number to my Google Voice number, and used the N7LTE as my phone for a week. However, I found that GrooveIP and Talkatone apps would sometimes miss incoming google voice calls even when I was using WiFi for data. So, I moved my verizon microSIM card back to my phone.
It is my understanding that all three models of N7LTE offerred by Google are the exact same tablet. The only difference is which promotional microSIM card is included in the box.
Good Luck,
Howard
P.S. I do not know if Verizon can see that I am using the phone microSIM card in the N7LTE tablet. If Verizon can see this, then it is possible Verizon can take actions like dropping data service or cancelling my account or whatever else one can imagine. I do not know if Verizon can see which device the microSIM card is installed in. I also don't know if Verizon cares or not.

I made that post for new buyers like you. All 3 versions work on all 3 carriers. Buy the t-mobile one since theyre the same price and keep the sim with free 2gb data for a rainy day. You can use your existing sim (microsim) in your new tablet until it is certified, which, knowing verizon, could be a long wait. Just know that if you have a nanosim or a traditional sim card then you will need a cheap adapter.

Hopefully I am posting this in the correct area. Please move if not.
I just purchased an unlocked Google version 2 XL and am going to use it on VZW.
Are there any special things I should do to the phone prior to activation? I read somewhere that if you activate on VZW that they could or would lock the bootloader through updates or whatnot. Am I able to circumvent that?
Are there any possible issues with using a Google 2 XL on VZW that I should be aware of? I read in another thread that someone had activation issues with a VZW Sim.
TIA
I activated one, popped in my old sim no issue. I unlocked bl first when it was purchased.

No issues with Verizon trying to lock the bootloader?
No.
So do I just follow this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-xl-t3702418 to unlock the bootloader

Absolutely! Nathan is the man!
Just to add to the chorus. All that was needed with my google edition was to put my sim in. Verizon without all the crap (it does load some apps but I believe they were for voicemail and maybe wifi calling).
Thanks all. I appreciate the responses.
One more question.
What's the difference between unlock and critical unlock?

Weird, its grayed out for me
Were you able to root it?
A little off topic, but why do people buy the Verizon version when you can buy the Unlocked version for the same price and 0% interest financed?

Some people don't know, some people have weird trust issues, sometimes the Verizon one is much cheaper.
I wish there were confirmation on this- local Verizon stores have stock while WorstBuy requires shipping or store stock next week.
Nope, picked up a 3a from a Verizon corporate store (asked for clearly white, turns out it slightly purple) and no joy on OEM unlock. Toggle is grayed out and states "Unavailable on carrier-locked devices". Going back tomorrow and hopefully won't get dinged $50 on the return since they gave me the wrong color but I don't think that will play out.

Well the bootloader definitely cannot be unlocked if the carrier has it sim carded locked. Carrier issued phone are generally sim card locked by default and the user has to usually request for the device to be sim card unlocked. I still don't believe the Verizon edition will be bootloader unlockable, but seeing that particular message does not confirm one way or another as it appears on every carrier sim card locked device - even those that can be bootloader unlocked once the phone is sim card unlocked.
I can confirm this true, at least in the bestbuy I bought my pixel 3a.
Like I say bought on bestbuy unlocked, when I get home turn on without a sim card and no WiFi, then turn on developer option and there was the beautiful oem unlock available, immediate I turn on and go to fastboot and do the fastboot flashing oem unlock and successful, now I rooted with magisk and button remapper with the active edge remapped.
P.s it was in the latest firmware
i wonder if the method for the orig pixel would work. would be funny if it did. for those wondering https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/how-to-unlock-bootloader-verizon-pixel-t3796030 i doubt it will, but might be worth trying
So, stupid question, but the Google Store site wasn't completely clear on this...if I buy the unlocked Pixel 3a from Google's site, will it work 100% with Verizon's network? Will it have all of the same LTE bands, for example, or will I see reduced performance compared to the Verizon-locked version? I'm used to the old days where I had to buy one version of a phone for VZW and a different version for AT&T...
Yes, the unlocked 3a works fully on Verizon's LTE bands as well as calling over WiFi and VoLTE. 100% compatible and none of the preinstalled crap.

It's the same only the differences are that one it's unlockable bootloader(Google) and the other not(verizon).
Both have the same bands and processor, etc.
If you want to make this phone more great and you knowledge about flashing and that stuff buy from Google but if you don't care about that buy the one from verizon and I don't sure but on verizon have very good discounts like 100 bucks more cheap with activation.

No, the Google Store version and Verizon version are NOT the same. Almost, but not "just the same with one sim locked". They don't have exactly the same model name and LTE bands.
Verizon Pixel 3a model: G020E
Google Store Pixel 3a model : G020G
The Verizon model miss some LTE bands (14, 29, 30, 71) and miss e-sim support. Maybe Verizon LTE network doesn't use the missing bands and there is no difference with the LTE coverage, but they are not the same.

I know this is almost a 2 year old thread but just bought a used Verizon 3a because my Pixel died. I have to have a Verizon version because those are the only phones that Page Plus will activate. Anyone know which OTA version they were able to unlock on? Have my doubts any of them will actually work but wanted to know before I update too far. Currently on QQ3A.200605.002.
I know I did not get a response before and have upgrade to the latest April 2021 patch with no success at unlocking. Wondering if anyone has tried using a AT&T sim to try and unlock bootloader? Not sure how the phone knows it is a Verizon phone. The OTAs are for all versions. Wonder if there is something in the code that could be tweaked before install.
Hey guys, long time Samsung user. Finally making the switch to Oneplus 6t. It's on the way. I ordered it from the Oneplus site. Supposed to arrive in 2 days.
My 6t will be on the Verizon network. I understand that I will need to call Verizon and tell them it is a CDMA - less device. You can't access your Verizon account online and do it yourself?
After I get Verizon to recognize it as LTE, here is what I am looking for in my 6t.
I want to root it and install a custom rom. I am not a fan of google so I am looking to use nanodroid. I read in another thread that people have experienced issues when trying to use lineage and nanodroid (Microg) while on Verizon with 6t.
I have also read that Omni rom plays well with nanodroid. So if I want a custom rom without bloat and without google, is Omni the way to go?
If not Omni, I would like recommendations. Thank you
Hello, fellow Verizon user here. If you activate the SIM using the IMEI of the 6t you shouldn't have to call them. You only have to call them if you are transferring a SIM card. I've never had an issue with Verizon on custom ROMs except that the mobile data indicator is broken, and that breaks some apps (Google Pay). ROMs that I've tried and had no issues with are Havoc OS and Omni. Whichever ROM you choose if your choice.

My current phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) still has 2 months before it is eligible for upgrade. After those 2 months I can call Verizon and ask them for the unlock code for my current Sim. Is that correct?
What you were saying about the 6t imei, if I do not want to wait 2 months and use the Sim card from my note 8, I can just get the imei number from my 6t and activate it on Verizon?
I've never activated like that. Can you give me a brief description of how to do that? Thank you
Oh nevermind, I found where the IMEI number is for 6T and went to my verizon account and picked BYOD. Looks like it will work that way. Just dont know yet if I will be able to use my current sim card or if I need to purchase a new one.

Ok thank you.
Another question. How many 6t users on Verizon, are still having text issues. Especially MMS. I noticed several people in older threads who were having issues. Some so bad that they were considering moving away from 6t.
I noticed yesterday when I went to download the March OTA image that there was one specific for AT&T. Anyone know why the Pixel 4 has a specific image for AT&T?

No. But it was pulled because it failed certification and was not passing Safety Net. So, right now, there's only the other build available.
Thanks for that. I just rant into an article on Android Police that it's coming back soon. I'm still curious as to how this differs from the standard ROM. My curiosity is driven by the fact that I'm on AT&T and haven't been able to enable Wifi Calling or Number Sync. I was told by the AT&T reps that it's because the phone doesn't support VoLTE, which is BS. While AT&T generally blocks non-AT&T purchased phones (unlocked or not), the Pixel line is exempt and supports all of their services. I had no issues with the Pixel 3.

That exemption was for the Pixel 2 and 3, which AT&T didn't sell. Now that they sell the 4/XL, they are uncertifying unlocked Pixel 4s. Only AT&T bought models are authorized by their servers to have VoLTE and WiFi Calling. Without VoLTE, you won't have access to WiFi Calling.
I didn't even know AT&T sold the Pixel 4. One of the primary reasons I bought another Pixel was because of AT&T support of unlocked Pixels. I guess not anymore.

It's a different case because you already had a registered AT&T Pixel 4 IMEI before you switched to an unlocked model. AT&Ts servers will still read your phone as an authorized model. Try getting an unlocked Pixel 4a or 5 (or whatever model comes next, for example) instead of a branded AT&T model and you will have the same issue as I.

So, i know it is a pain and it's because they want you to buy their "branded" crap. However, for a workaround, find an at & t branded iphone that has volte vowifi capability and put your sim in there. Then call AT & T or use their live chat support. Tell them you are trying to activate your sim with volte and vowifi for your sim. They will activate it for the that sim card. Once you verified the iphone shows volte and vowifi take your sim out and put it in android phone of choice. I found this out since my sister (sadly) is an apple user and i use all android phones. Once the sim is unlocked for volte and vowifi i haven't had any issues on my pixel or my op 6 or op 7 pro.
Good luck. Might be a pain if you don't have access to an i phone, but swappa is fairly reasonable for a 7 that you can use and then sell to a friend or something . Good luck.
