Bootloader gone - Moto G6 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi, I've been using a Motorola Moto G6 Plus for quite a long time now. However, I can't figure out why it doesn't show any boot logo at startup, getting a black screen but a USB signal to my PC in fastboot mode (PC detects it at Fastboot evert S, which is good). Can anyone tell me or help me figure out why this phone isn't giving me boot logo's and fastboot?

First of all i wanna make clear that:
1. Can you reboot to system?
2. Can you reboot to recovery?
3. You have Root access in your phone?
Please consider answring.

Yes, the system works as normal. It runs stock Android 9, not rooted. It doesn't have any recovery installed, and when I try to reboot to ADB, it gives the same black screen as the boot logo and bootloader. The screen is slightly lighting up, so I know it powers up, but it doesn't give the screen I want, the default bootloader screen.

OK, try flashing stock boot.img through Fastboot or TWRP, this should work.

TWRP already isn't an option, and I don't know how to do it with fastboot. Could you guide me through that?

OK, so first of all i wanna make clear that you don't use this phone as primary phone because unlocking bootloader and Flashing have chances that your data might be erased, so BACK Up all of your DATA to a safe place before doing this.
If everything is set, Lets move ahead by unlocking your phone's bootloader and flashing. Watch this this tutorial:
Download boot.img file of your phone &
After that boot your phone in fastboot mode connect it to PC and, type this command in CMD fastboot flash boot (boot.img path)
Hope this helps!

I didn't read your message fully, so didn't back up my phone... Lucky me this isn't my primary phone and it didn't erase anything. It didn't help me though.
Edit: Now that I try booting into Android, it gives the same black screen as the bootloader and logo. I'm starting to think that it unfortunately erased my phone.

Maybe try flashing full stock?

Recovering Files through Bootloader

I had to replace a battery on my Nexus 4, and the new battery is just as broken (red light of death). I'd like to pull the files off the device.
Now, I've tried multiple different methods that claim to fix the red light of death and none have worked, so I'm trying some other things now.
When holding volume down + power and giving the phone a usb power source, I manage to get into the bootloader screen. I've checked fastboot and it's recognising the device, however adb is not. I have a feeling since last flashing a rom I have not re-enabled USB Debugging, that or adb requires the phone to be on which I am not sure about.
I was wondering is there a way I can copy files across with fastboot or if there is a way to get adb working with only fastboot?
Other Information: In the bootloader screen I cannot select any of the options with the power button, I can only scroll through them with volume keys. I cannot boot into recovery/into my phone through fastboot or the red light comes back. I simply only have fastboot through the bootloader.
If your phone's bootloader is unlocked, you can install a custom recovery (like TWRP) and pull the files from the internal storage with "adb pull".
If it is locked, you can't do much, because unlocking it will wipe your device.

Yup, Just did it again:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery cwm.img
It succeeds. I then click to boot into recovery and I get the red light again. It doesn't seem to be possible :/
As far as I know, there is no way of retrieving data with fastboot. :S

It would seem that way. So fustrating, I almost always have USB Debugging enabled because I fiddle about with my phone regularly, but of course when it is so dearly needed I forget to turn it on!
It might ease your pain: USB Debugging has nothing to do with your problem, because it is a service of Android. So if you can't boot into Android, you can't use it.

Stuck in Bootloop

US996 Unlocked, stock rom. I was in XDA Forums and saw there were app updates, one being Play Store. I updated. When I tried to get into Play Store, the message "this version of play store is incompatible with your device, go to settings and disable app update (or something like that). I tried but the app was not listed in settings. I tried to reboot and now the phone bootloops. All I can get is the warning that the software cannot be checked for corruption and then a quick display of the LG logo, then screen off, and then LG logo again and then warning screen, etc. If I try to reboot into recovery I get the Factory data reset screens and I answer both "yes" and the phone goes into adb mode.. From adb mode I can fastboot reboot, which puts me back into the above loop, or fastboot bootloader, which merely returns me to the adb screen. What can I do now?
Maybe try relocking the bootloader. I am pretty sure (someone correct me if I am wrong) that that pop-up of the "cannot check for corruption" usually only shows when the bootloader is unlocked.

Do you have fastboot installed on your computer? (Something you would have had to have intentionally installed) If not google Minimal Fastboot /ADB and install it, enter the supposed ADB screen you are talking about and see if it makes contact with your phone.

I have the fastboot on the PC that I used to unlock the bootloader.. I enter fastboot on the PC via the administrative command prompt. With the phone in the fastboot mode, I type "fastboot devices" on the PC and get a proper response (LGUS996ab**** fastboot). If I enter ""fastboot reboot" I get the bootloop. If I enter "fastboot bootloader" I wind up in Fastboot Mode on the phone again. I was hoping there was a "fastboot recovery" command but there doesn't seem to be. I don't know what to do next. I am not all that familiar with what can be done from fastboot. My only experience with it was when I unlocked the phone. I am desperate!
Okay, so if you do not have TWRP installed on your phone, then I don't know if you can save your data. You can try to
Code:
fastboot erase cache
and see if it helps, or if not and just reset the device fastboot oem lock I think. Maybe ask around in the unlocking help threads or perhaps someone with more knowledge will chime in. If none of this works, then there are some instructions on how to get your phone back to stock in the News and Guides section.
EDIT: Maybe try the power+volume down. It may work? I have tried it and never got it to successfully work. But you can try it.

Thanks for your help. I DO have TWRP installed and have used it often for backups. But now the only way I know to TRY to get to it is by the power/vol down until LG logo, then release/repress power button sequence but this just gets me into fastboot mode. II have some recent backups saved on my micro SD card - is there any way to flash one of them through fastboot if I load one onto the PC?
Yeah. My bad. Okay, so how I get into TWRP is through the EasyRecowvery.
Go ahead and download it from Git-Hub (1.3b3).
Now extract it and run the cmd program. Enter 5. which is extras and stuff and then enter 5 again in the sub menu which will let you boot into recovery. When you are in recovery, and plugged into your computer, you should be able to either flash or drag and drop like a flash drive on the the phone. Hope that helps a little bit.

Since you are only rebooting into recovery and not flashing anything it might. If not, it will just fail and not harm anything. Last thing to try is the
Code:
adb reboot recovery
which is the only thing I can think of and I think you already tried it. Otherwise you will need to just go stock.

sudden bootloop (can't get into recovery mode) n I didnt update to android 7,

so there I was in my car, my phone plugged in via aux cable and playing some music

Hi... You can't use adb commands while in bootloader... Only fastboot commands. Use the volume rocker till you see recovery mode displayed and press power button. If it still bootloop, try formatting cache and data with fastboot in bootloader and reboot in recovery again. If it still bootloop. Finally try fastboot flash a stock Google image. If none of these steps work, your phone is probably dead and you'll have to try to RMA your N6P.

Fastboot flash-all.sh is for Mac computers so presumably you have a Mac. Flash-all.bat is for windows. You need to unzip the Google image and move everything into the same folder where you have the fastboot program. Just open a command prompt window inside that folder and type the command. That's how I do it in Windows. Presumably the process is similar with a Mac. You will still have a zipped archive after you unzip the Google image but you want to leave that one as is. So far flashing flash-all.bat has gotten me out of every boot loop I've gotten into on my 6P but my phone never spontaneously bootlooped. I was always doing something (updating a rom, trying to restore a nandroid backup) that resulted in a bootloop. The fact that your phone boot looped without warning is probably a bad sign. If you still have warranty I would try to flash stock and see if you can RMA phone. If that isn't possible you might want to try staying on stock or using a different rom and seeing if the random reboots still occur. Good luck.
Well that really sucks. Sorry for your loss but it is a long running phone failure problem. I'm on my second 6P because this. Even worse to me is the fact your were running almost the exact same setup I am now. I refrained from running 7.x.x to try and minimize my chances of another BLOD so now w4on knows what to do. Lol

adb only works while phone is booted into system so nothing wrong there. If you're in the bootloader menu where you see that the status of your device is unlocked then you're already in fastboot mode. Just flash twrp again and the sideload stock 8.1 beta boot image (you can probably find it on xda), sideload magisk too. Go into install and press flash image file and find the stock boot image and then go into install again and change to flash .zip and flash magisk. After that, reboot into system.

No problem. Thank you very much for the donation, that was really kind of you. Hey I'm sure you'll get the hang of it before android P drops. you did figure out what went wrong all by yourself so get a hold of the right boot.img and the rest is exactly as how you did it in the first place but flash the boot.img before magisk. Let me know if you want to give it a dive again.
I'm on 8.1 boot loader unlocked and ready to try to root again .Thanks for the help
This is the closest thread i could find to what is happening to my PH-1.
Like videodave1 I 'was' running the latest stock 8.1 and have my bootloader unlocked. In trying to root the phone I did this:
flash boot flash boot twrp.img
adb shell twrp sideload
adb sideload magisk.zip
All installations went well, but when trying to reboot from twrp it forced me to install the app. After that the phone went into boot loop.
* Note how I didn't sideloaded the Oreo 8.1 image before magisk.
By pressing all 3 buttons I can get the phone to reboot and releasing the volume up I can get to Fastboot. Just volume down and power doesn't work.
The problem now is that adb and fastboot no longer recognise the phone. adb devices just gives an empty list and fastboot only shows < waiting for device >
Trying to go into Recovery mode doesn't work either. Power off doesn't work and Restart bootloader, well, restarts the bootloader.
It might be relevant to mention that I'm running adb and fastboot from Terminal in a Mac and that this is my very first and frustrated attempt to root any phone.
For reference this is what the FastBoot Mode brings:
PRODUCT_NAME - Mata
VARIANT - OPENUS
BOOTLOADER VERSION - mata-aad8ac4
BASEBAND VERSION - 2.0.C4-M1.3.1
SECURE BOOT - yes
DEVICE STATE - unlocked
I might have to just resign myself to the ordinary land of unlocked full stock phones
Thanks very much

What you need to understand is that twrp will not stick after you flash it. This device does not have a recovery partition and that's why you replace the boot partition with twrp and while you're in twrp you need to flash the boot.img back and whatever mods on top of that such as kernel etc.. If you flash a rom then it will replace the twrp with the boot.img found in the rom zip.
So now we need the computer to recognize you device. Could you unplug the cable and change the usb port on you computer. connect your phone while you're in the bootloader menu where it says start on the top.
The use use fastboot command: fastboot devices
See if the computer recognizes you device.

And also i cant enter into bootloader, i tried first selecting bootloader mode after pressing power buttom,
but in enters in recovery mode not bootloader mode. Then i tried to use ADB commands, adb reboot bootloder. It goes

Hm...I'm in a similar constellation, after update to 10.5.8 I lost magisk and so root. Somehow the extraction of 10.5.8's boot.img and conversion into magisk_patched.img didn't help me regain boot, but ends in crashdump. But from here, I always can get back to bootloader with long pressing vol+ and power, when screen turns black let go both buttons and immediately press vol- and power which brings me back to recovery, from here into bootloader. reflash stock boot.img and I'm fine, but still no root, of course.
ok now, did you try to simply reflash 10.5.8 from settings/system/systemupdate/local upgrade? :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

You are getting in to bootloader , I saw some discussion on the how to root without twrp thread , go check there people are having same issue and I think it works for a dude there and mentioned how he did so :good:
I'm having the same problem. After trying this I get into the CrashDump Mode and can't get out no matter what. Tried to get into the recovery to get fastboot or something but it brings me back to CrashDump Mode. Anybody know how to fix this? kind of don't want a brick here with me... Thanks in advance!

I can get into fastboot actually by holding both volume buttons but as soon as I try to get into recovery the screen stays black and my PC says USB device not recognized. I flashed the stock boot image from 10.5.6 but it didn't work as it just goes back to CrashDump Mode...

try flashing the stock boot.img to both slots ... fastboot set_active (slot), do this for each slot. then fastboot flash boot boot.img (in my case it doesn't matter which slot is set active, my OP8pro does boot anyway). then fastboot boot boot.img. good luck:fingers-crossed:
