Hey guys,
I have a Moto G5+ XT1687 that I'm messing with. I've rooted this sucker, TWRW recovery & Magisk are installed on the stock ROM and the phone does appear to have root as I'm able to log into the shell with root permissions, but I still cannot get the /system and /app folders to remount as r/w regardless of what I try.
So far I've had the same issues with Root Explorer, FX File Manager, Shell commands via ADB and terminal emulators. I'm still somewhat new to working with these, so hopefully there's a quick fix for it. Any assistance would be much appreciated!

So, I'm rooted. S=OFF, I get su access in Terminal, and I have the latest busybox installed in /system/bin. But, after a reboot of the device I can only get R/W access to certain parts of the directory structure - /system is unfortunately not one of them.
Now, here's the weird part: When I start the app Busybox Installer (downloaded from the market), the app searches for busybox installations and tells me I have the latest in /system/bin (this I already know). Once I have started this Installer without doing anything else, I can gain full R/W access to /system.
So, there seems to be some sort of strange busybox issue and how it relates to system R/W access. Is the latest busybox incompatible with this stock ROM?
Root explorer issues
I am also having the same issue I can not get R/W access in the system folder. I have been trying to re-map the Genius button. I am able to remove "bloatware" by using Titanium backup. I definitely have permanent root on the phone, so I am confused by this issue. I have been searching and have not seen other similar complaints. I tried the busybox from the above post but still am not able to R/W access.
You need the latest version of root explorer. Will solve the issue.

I just used a guide to root my MT4G with adb and gfree_4 and it worked perfect. loaded up hboot s = off and all, however when I tried the genius button remap guide I couldn't change the system r/w assess using root explorer. what gives?
What happens if you do
adb shell
su
or you can try
adb remount
known issue there is fix, I just downloaded an app "mount /system rw" that works perfectly fine for me
So is the fix just to use mount /system app or is there a perm fix? I can't get metamorph to istall because of this issue. Mine seems to come and go, sometimes Root Explorer can mount r/w in system and sometimes it can't.
I used it as a permanent fix
adb pull /default.prop
open in text editor and make sure that ro.secure=0
then adb push back to /
should allow you RW
I'm running cm7 Barebones on my KF and I've read that SuperSu is supposed to be "better" than regular SuperUser. First, can anyone confirm/deny this? Second, Is it ok to have both installed simultaneously? I can't seem to find a way to uninstall SuperUser. It isn't listed in Titanium backup(SuperSu is) and Settings-->Applications-->Manage Apps only allows me to force stop but not uninstall. Any help/input/comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi, you can remove superuser by deleting /system/app/superuser.apk (I'm assuming SuperSU overwrites /system/bin/su and busybox) and then rebooting. You may use ADB, Root Explorer, ES File Explorer with Root permissions mounting /system as writeable...
As for whether SuperSU is better, that's up to each individual's circumstances. It's best if you read a bit more about the features SuperSU has and then decide on your own: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
I have a Razr M on verizon, not the developers version, android 4.1.1 build 9.8.10_27-2
I'm trying to root so that I can run some programs like Fox-Fi wireless tether, and every method for rooting I've found so far is just a script to push some files onto the /system folders or /data folders.
Now my /system and data folders are read only, and I don't have permissions to chmod or re-mount. I can't use su to get permissions without first writing to those folders (and I can't write without su and so on).
So how do I fix this? I either need root to su or sudo, or i need r/w file system. How do I get one, without the other?

Hi everyone. I installed B32 but i can't edit system.
For example; can't change build.prop. Can't delete anything from system.
It was good on B25.
Uuhh... use a PC, and issue 'adb reboot disemmcwp'
It supposedly doesn't work if you do it from a terminal emulator
It's weird that you don't seem to know about this, since it happens on every stock ROM
Thank you my friend but it is not about it. So it did not help me
I'm having the same problem. If anyone has a solution please post. I tried to remount system to r/w from terminal. even tried to mount system as R/W with root explorer and ES explorer. It's a no go.
