This is a fairly frequent issue that requires replacement of internal components. Seek repair with Samsung.

Hello everyone, this is my first post and it´s about my Defy, which, for some reason, the USB port does not work to access the phone and/or the SD Card.
1: I did a soft and hard reset and the problem persists.
2: The phone does not show up on the device manager under Windows so not even an error message saying "Device not recognized" or something. Also, it won´t show up in Ubuntu.
3. The "Connect your charger" message shows up all the time.
4. No notification in the phone when plugged to the PC .
5. Even though I can´t access the phone from the PC, I still can´t charge it through the USB port.
6. I can connect/access the phone and SD Card using Wi-Fi (Motorola Phone Portal) but not USB. I can see "Plug in USB to launch" in Phone Portal but cannot press the button, only the one referring to Wi-Fi.
PS: This is my second Defy, the first one got the same problem so I got a new one... sadly, the it happened again.
PS2: I wonder if a USB 3.0 port has to do with anything? It´s the only thing that I noticed before the USB stopped working.
Any help or hint is greatly appreciated.
well, i don't think it's an usb3 problem ...
to be sure you could try to connect your phone with an older usb2 port computer ...
is the phone charging on wall charger and usb-cable ???
if not, it really sounds like a hardware failure ... then i would send it to customer service and tell them that there is the same problem again .. maybe the just repaired something and it's faulty again ... be sure, that they are changing the faulty things ...
if your phone is charging on wall charger, it could be that it is an problem with your pc ... try another one ...

1. I mentioned the USB 3.0 port because it was the only common thing just before the usb conection stopped working.
2. The phone charges normally using the wall charger or usb (2.0, 3.0) cable through the PC.
3. It does not matter what PC is connected to or the OS (Ubuntu, Win7)/
Thanks for the response!
It is possible to brick it. Wtih some phone's it seems to be a common error for usb ports to be blown.
Could also be the cable... My cable that came with the defy was already snatched after a few months. My screen started going on and of when I was charging it.

Is there a way to check for faulty hardware-related issues?
just test different cables, computers or even mobiles ... then you will see, what is faulty

What I meant was some software that check or even some kind of physical device.
Anyway, I know it´s not the cable or PC faulty but the phone itself. But I want to confirm if it´s software or hardware related and if there´s a fix.
Thanks!
Try using USB with logcat open. You might see something in the log that will tell you what's happening

Hello
I had a problem in charging port for my galaxy S3 i9300, and I take it to a store who repare it and it's charging now, but the problem now is transfering data cause my PC is not detactable at all, I've changed many software, cables and PC ports but there's no indication in my phone ( USB icon) which means it's a hardware issue in my phone.
My question is how I can test it I mean which pins must I test cause the phone connector has 11 pins? I can't take it again to repare cause I'm still using it.
Thanks a lot

Hello,
I think you are facing USB damage with your devise, because many mobile has safe removal and insertion slot. And as per my assumption it only happens because of slot damage...
Change the whole module

hi guys
had a problem for a while where i can't charge it through a cable, but i can charge it through the wireless coil.
i just replaced the USB port, and now i get a reaction when i connect it to the computer, however there is an error about USB not recognised.
i guess i'm not looking for a solution but i want to know if anyone else had the same problem and whether it's like a mainboard problem? cos i better off getting a new phone...
bit of a curveball, not sure would anyone have any idea what happened to my phone

I'm sorry Guy's, but I have to go for a monthly, but thread is open for your comment and solution!
There is an internal ribbon cable that connects the USB port to the motherboard.
I believe this internal cable needs to be replaced if trying different computers, USB cables, and USB 2.0 ports doesn't solve the problem.
I fix my phone problem, a repairman change my micro USB socket.
I've had my S8 for about 8 months now, pretty happy with the phone. Let me preface this and say I was with Verizon when I got this phone, a few months ago I decided to cut ties and go with Straight Talk as the service was less expensive. Over the last few weeks I have had trouble with the USB mass storage and OTG adapter not working at all, I am using the OEM pieces that came the phone. I go to plug in the cable or the OTG and my phone starts doing the USB connect/disconnect notification. At this point I am thinking of calling Samsung to see if I can get the port repaired under warranty, I think its weird that the OTG and cable are not working to transfer files or connect devices other than the charger. I have reset the settings on the phone, installed Samsung's mobile device driver on my pc (WIN 7 Ultimate x64) , no luck. Anybody run into this issue?
try another pc or get charging port repaired if it ain't charging properly

Called Samsung, they are having me take it to a UBreakiFix place for their technicians to look at it. They think it could be corrupt software or damaged charging port. It's still under warranty so hopefully they can fix it without having to refurb the phone.
Got it fixed, replaced the port. Phone had a small corner crack in the screen they said Samsung wouldn't warranty the port. Gonna call them about that.
