I have been reading and attempting two flash anything for 2 days. I am new as I have stated in some threads and need baby steps unfortunately like im
sure some others do. I have been able to unlock, root, and get into recovery but after that no dice. I get everything Im suppose to do but... I am not able
to flash anything and I have looked for help in threads and have had some help and success but more importantly all detail is not clear to me all the time. I
am on here because I want the most out of my phone and all the goodies and appreciate the work of everyone. Coming from Windows to Android is
different and I understand will take sometime to gain the knowledge needed but it seems as you/we are supposed to know everything already or if you/we
dont understand what to do then you/we shouldnt be flashing some say. I disagree with that because I started the same way on my HD and eventually
was able to help new ppl to the forum. We all have been there at some point trying to learn and being clueless then finally getting it. For instance I was
looking at a theme thread and there was no instruction from the author am I just suppose to know what to do with the file being that Im not a week into
this and have never dealt with android? Also what to write in some command prompts is not the same for everyone different and thats not always clear.
With that being said this being a new device I would hope that things will be more written out to help and if its not at least be able to get help. This is just
in some cases not all . Again I am thankful for everyones work on here.
Now with the files I have trouble with are pretty much every file I have placed on my sd card not being recognized except Modocas rom until I renamed it
update.zip. Until then in recovery nothing would be recognized and even still the rom failed to install in which I have no clue why and have been seeking an
answer and so have others. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated for me and others and also to give detail on what to do with
what we are given. Thanks to everyone who contributes on here and make the experience that much better.
Every one of the instructions that are on this forums (in the dev area) are explained in detail. You must have some core understanding of basic linux commands and android file system. Those we are not going to teach you here. There are many documents on android itself (search on google) and HTC also has a lot of documentation on flashing.
However with that said, rooting instructions were to the point and should be able to follow without issues. thefallen has written it instructions for windows/dos and I've recapped them for linux/osx. To be honest, commands are the same for adb and fastboot.
Amon_Ra also has a good instructions on how to update his recovery. Pretty much if I should recap, I'd say boot phone in boot loader and fastboot flash recovery new_recovery_image.img
As for the themes and most of the updates, always run a nandroid first and update. What do I mean by that? Nandroid is the backup utility in Amon_Ra's recovery. If you ran it, you can restore to that. Call it a restore point but it's more than that (read on that so you know what it actually does). Why nandroid? So you can restore if you don't like the effects of what you just done. Now you can just update via zip that you download.
I think it's very simple. What do you need explained in detail? Most of the stuff you are requesting is simple knowledge. I am not saying I am holier. I am just saying I am used to the commands. Once you flash it a few time, it'll come to you too. But please do read up on how to restore an image from HTC. Go to HTC Global, and support and pull up google ION.
Read thru the instructions. If you are still confused, feel free to PM me.
If recovery is only recognizing update.zip, are you sure you have Amon_Ra's recovery on there? Have you tried to reflash his recovery image?
Thank you guys. I figured out what I was doing wrong.
Hey there guys,
I know there's been a lot of fuss about Rooting Lollipop on XT1069 (BR), so I just wanted you guys to know that I just flashed the latest BETA of SuperSu using TWRP on my XT1068 running XT1069(BR) Lollipop firmware (using the TWRP Backup by droidjbc) and there was no bootloop caused.
So if you are like me and you've been holding back cause of a buggy root process, I just tried it and I didn't get any boot loop. (The first boot was long though, ~around 6-7 mins)
DISCLAIMER: This post is based on my experience with the latest beta, I can assure no guarantee that it'll be the same for you...
After reading the above disclaimer if you're going for it... Here's the links to latest SuperSu Beta v2.39.

You do have a valid point, but I did clearly mention a DISCLAIMER! If thats the case, then most tutorials and guides in the forum have a potential for Bootloops, Even then users are excited by the little chance that they might get lucky. For e.g., the Lollipoping method using TWRP, the method is working, even then users get boot loop.
Besides, THIS IS XDA!!!
Thanks

I TESTED IT BEFORE POSTING! But as you said, this could be a Hit or Miss. Anyways since you pointed this out, I have Reported my Thread for Removal. I don't want any User to get Bootloops (I myself got Bootloop from v2.38) because of my Thread.
Anyways Thanks!
Sorry to say but I also got bootloop with v2.39.
In case anyone didn't realize the easy way to get out of bootloop caused by SuperSU on the BR xt1069 firmware is to boot into recovery, clear dalvik and cache. Then it will boot up (although it can take 6 or 7 minutes).
This version has been confirmed to be working for many users. Please check this link:

So here's my story,
I bought this Zte phone off someone on craigslist a couple of weeks ago, and I've loved it every since. In fact, I have yet to turn it off, I've kept it on the entire time. Today the new update 29 came out for the US, and I tried downloading. To my dismay when the phone restarted I was greeted with a bootloader screen, and then a TWRP screen. I freaked out and panicked and emailed the guy I bought the phone from since I heard that unlocking bootloader on your phone voids the warranty. He told me he had done it in such a way OTA framework that it didn't void the warranty and also I can always relock the phone but be careful because I might brick it. I'm not a very tech savvy person and have no idea what to do to relock the phone so I can download this new update. Could someone please help me out and walk it out with me step by step so I know what to do. Thanks so much guys!
Look in the section rooms, recoveries,etc... look for one the says roms update stock DrakenFX
Since you are not tech savvy, you could just keep it unlocked and use those twrp flashable files to update B29.

credit: @DrakenFX
However If you will wish to restore to locked state without twrp, I will be happy to guide you but you'll have many more steps to do.

I would much rather just restore to locked state without twrp so I don't have to worry about this situation again. I don't need bootloader or twrp and just wanna remove both. Would you please guide me through this?

If you're not tech savvy, you probably don't want to do this. It's not simple and for whatever reason, some people (who would consider themselves more tech savvy) have had some issues.
Your best bet is to copy all of your data from internal memory (just in case), flash a new copy of TWRP (recovery only, you don't need to do boot) using tenfar's tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204), then follow the steps in DrakenFX's thread to get B29: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68873482&postcount=2
I'm happy to write you a guide for getting back to bone stock, but I'm not going to do it until next week when I have time at work and as I said earlier, some folks have had issues. For what it's worth, you likely won't hard brick the phone. So far, we've only seen soft bricks AFAIK.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/1jw9b24glt5fd7t/recovery.img put this on your SD card
Boot to TWRP
Push Install (top left)
Push Install Image (bottom right)
find the recovery.img and push it - TWRP will install it for you.
Then reboot into recovery.
You will now be in stock recovery and can use it to install update from SD card and install the B20 firmware from ZTE
BE WARNED - THIS WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU ARE DONE!!!!!

Hah, no, your guides are not hard to follow. They're great
I think the bigger problem is that there are a lot of threads to wade through and there are various posts within in each thread that address specific issues users have run into. If someone who claims not to be "tech savvy" doesn't understand something in your thread (not because it's unclear but because they have zero experience with this and need some hand-holding) and then happens to read something else in the thread and tries that, it can get messy.

That is my problem entirely! I AM tech savvy as I have worked as a Microsoft/VMware Systems engineer for over 20 years and when I try to make heads or tails of doing some of the things necessary to flash a ROM, or root, or unlock the bootloader.... after my eyes glaze over I just stick with Nova Prime and hope the original manufacturers get everything worked out. What's really needed is a well written manual detailing step-by-step basics on what all these various things do as well as how to do them. Then more specific guides on a per phone basis. I know, it's asking too much! LOL :silly:

OK. Step by Step to get it back to B20
1) Move anything you want to save off your internal storage to your sd card or computer.
2) Download B20 image button.
3) Save file to SD card
4) Boot into Recovery by shutting it down and then push Volume Up Button+Power Button
5) When screen comes up boot into Recovery
6) in TWRP click Install, choose Select Storage, Choose Micro SDCard, Locate your update.zip file and click it
7) Swipe to confirm flash
WARNING: This will clean out your phone and turn it to B20. @DrakenFX can tell you how to not wipe the internal storage if you want to edit the update.zip file.
Hope this helps.
Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. However, when I tried this the other day, it reset my phone as planned, but TWRP and bootloader were still on there. Any way of getting them off?

Hi,
My Mediatek Micromax Canvas Knight A350 is totally dead. Not responding at all to any buttons. No lights or battery indicator is displayed. But some warmth can be felt on the phone.
When I connect the phone to the pc with a USB cable it is detected as MTK USB Port Comxxxx
But when I use SP flash tools to download the preloader...it does nothing. Please let me know what to do...Thanks and God bless you.

Using SP Flash Tool, flash the preloader.bin first.Use meta mode if not detected, all three buttons together while connecting and keep pressed until flashing starts.
If flashing was successful then your phone should at least be able to vibrate when you press the power button or boot if the correct files are present on your phone; else, flash other necessary files to make the phone boot up and start working normally again.
P.s. writing again and again is painful as I'm lazy-ass.
I'm thinking of making a thread about this but again,I'm lazy-ass.

Thanks buddy, the phone started but now it ends into a bootloop. Tried getting into custom recovery and doing a factory reset. It starts and goes all the way through and finally restarts and the same thing again...bootloop....Please suggest what should I do...Thanks and God bless.
In the meanwhile i tried flashing a new custom ROM from xdafirmware.com. But the SP flash tools downloads upto 9.86MB and then the download stops...What could be the reason? Also please let me know if Miracle Box is any kind of solution for these kind of problems! Thanks and God bless.

What did you actually do?

Also, there's no custom roms on xdafrimware.com,it's only stock roms and make sure whatever you flash is for A350 only!

Do you even know A350's battery is non-removable?
The only way you can remove it is by disassembling the device but doing that will compromise with your battery life.It should only be used in worst case scenario and everything else fails to work!

First of all, I apologize for my mistake. It was not a custom ROM but a Canvas Knight Stock ROM... The file name is this...Micromax_A350_V2_040614_KitKat_(by_xdafirmware.com). It's a version 2 (unmerged storage). However, earlier I had flashed a version 3 (merged storage) ROM and since it was constantly giving me trouble I tried to reflash version 2 ROM...But unable to do so...it gets stuck at 9.6MB or 0% in the SP Flash tool.
I tried the format+download option too. But in vain. Guess I am doing something wrong! What could it be? Thanks and God bless.
Btw, I have been through your blog in the past and benefited from the same. Thanks

Version 3 booted well the first time...it went all the way...i was setting it up nicely...and it hung and just stopped. Ever since then I tried to reboot it would not load...the Canvas Knight logo with the sound would come on and then restart or get hung at that point. In short, it would not fully boot anymore except for that once!
So I decided to do away with version 3 and thought version 2 would be fine because that's what was originally on my phone...but now this is the problem...i mean the SPFT gets hung at 0%.
Thanks and God bless you.
On a different note, I would still love to have version 3 if possible since I plan to install a custom ROM...most likely Cyanogenmod....

Latest Update…
I finally managed to successfully flash a Kitakat 4.4.2 vs. 2 (unmerged storage) stock rom…I downloaded the file again from xdafirmware.com and flashed it. There was no problem. The phone has started and its up since the last one hour or so.
Before booting I entered into stock recovery and did a wipe data/factory reset and also wipe cache partition. So far no problem. I have not yet switched on my wifi coz I am worried it might go off again and enter a bootloop.
Battery was 95% when booted...its now 94% since one hour...I have not used the phone at all though...
Now I have a barrage of questions…
1) The IMEI is gone…I know how to get it back. But would appreciate a proper guidance on this…I have tried using Maui Meta 3G ver 6.1 and was successful in restoring my original IMEI numbers. Is there a better way out? Or should I stick to this one? Should I use IMEI&SN Writer?
2) NVRAM WARNING: Err= 0x10 …how do I fix this…I have never tried fixing this before. So no idea whatsoever. I have no backups of the original stock rom. Greatest mistake I ever did.
3) How to restore my original serial number (S/N) of the phone? I have the Original S/N but don’t know how to do it. Also, is S/N being restored a necessary requirement like IMEI numbers since it is linked to the SIM/Network?
4) How to unlock the bootloader? This is the biggest headache. I believe one cannot install custom ROM’s without unlocking the bootloader.
5) What are the best rooting apps? Is SuperSu good enough to root?
6) Which is the best custom recovery for Canvas Knight?
7) Final question, how to go about using this tool Mtk_Droid_Tool_v2.5.3
Sorry for the trouble. But I have messed up many times in the last one month with innumerable flashing of the ROM’s and zip files. Now, once bitten twice shy I want to play safe.
So please let me know your thoughts if they are fail proof and time tested. Thanks for all your help. God bless.

God bless.

Well I hate giving bad news to people but I might know what causing all this.
As you say,the phone booted fine now but you'll likely see random hangs and sudden reboots in using it,to be sure, use it for atleast 2 hrs constantly and then we can proceed further with your questions.
In mean time,check this post:

Well I tried using it for a while...no internet...just going through settings and checking...then I enabled Developers options and connected USB. Tried to check if the phone was listed on ADB etc....but then it went into a bootloop and kept shutting down after periodic bootloops...now its totally down...not responding at all.
Anyway, I think I know how to get it back when everything else fail. Until then stay blessed and don't give up.
God bless.

Hi, Sorry for the sudden disappearance. I really didn't know how to reply to your "HOW"? But I knew there was a CERTAIN possibility of getting the phone back...I call it faith in God. And I have plenty of faith and I believe in the impossible coz I have seen some of the most impossible things happen in my life and around me over the years. So plain hope and faith in God was what I banked on. But I have no logical explanation to give on the phone starting again smoothly. I have been struggling with this phone for the last 45 days. And this is the first time the phone has really stayed put and it got booted in just one go!
Also your signature line was a source of continued inspiration to hit out against all the odds and doubts.
I would now kindly appreciate any help in restoring the phone to full functionality...I mean would love to hear answers for my questions from the previous post.
In the meanwhile, I did a bit of study on the Miracle Box and a tool called ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL_V2.1...
But, I don't want to jump the gun and get going...Will wait for expert advice. Until then God bless us all. Stay blessed. And yes, thanks for all the help. Shalom.

Hi Ak,
Thanks for your reply. My device is up and about since the last hmmm...to be exact...26 hours. I didn't have any reboots or bootloops or anything for that matter.
However, I need to set it up complete...customization I mean...and these are some of the problems I am facing... Quoting a part of the previous post to save typing...
Quote "Now I have a barrage of questions…
4) How to unlock the boot-loader? This is the biggest headache. I believe one cannot install custom ROM’s without unlocking the boot-loader.
5) What are the best rooting apps? Is SuperSu good enough to root?
6) Which is the best custom recovery for Canvas Knight?
7) Final question, how to go about using this tool Mtk_Droid_Tool_v2.5.3" Unquote.
In the meanwhile, I have done a little bit of study and RnD of the miracle box/MTK Droid Tools/S&N Writer tool etc. on my old Canvas HD 116. And I realized that the Miracle Box is one good tool. The IMEI No. can be changed in a jiffy. Rooting is extremely easy using this box. I did via adb.
In short, a bit too confused with too much knowledge on hand. Looking for wisdom to apply this knowledge correctly. There could be many simpler ways too!!! Any help in this regard is much appreciated.
Thanks and God bless us all. Shalom.

Okay don't panic!
Clearly your device is fine by hardware stuff so let's fix some myths and problem of yours.
Firstly, this is mt6592 so you don't have to unlock any boot loader stuff. You can just root your device using kingroot or kingoroot(google it).
For more please read out this whole section,
https://canvasknightroms.blogspot.com/2015/10/rooting-canvas-knight.html?m=1
Now I believe you have root by now. Now all you need to do is get a recovery and as you're on v2 you can find it here,
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5W6R0DsDjWTU1o3TEpfWGFsMEE/view
This is philz recovery with OTG support. As you've root just download the IMG file and flash it though flashify, you can find it on Play store. So you've recovery!
Again, these are just suggested methods, you can do all that with other methods too. Also please stop wasting time on stuffs like miracle boxes and etc etc.
Secondly to get your imei back it would be very easy as you've recovery.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6-QF5uchBNhbFlfVk1wOEthbms/view
Just flash this file in recovery and everything shld be fine.
Now to fix Nvram error, just extract the folder from this backup zip,
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByuIKfMkBBxBaXBZRHJnNHVRMVk/view
And using any root explorer(I prefer es file manager) go to /data root and replace nvram folder with the folder in this zip
Now the best recovery would be philz recovery for v2 but I greatly suggest you to flash v3 for a variety of reasons and custom ROMs.Yes,you need to shift to v3 to get LP or MM and new updated ROMs though you can still flash available ROMs for v2 which you can find here,
https://canvasknightroms.blogspot.in/2015/10/all-roms-link-for-v2.html?m=1
Very less isn't it? That's because storage barrier in v2.
You can find various mods here,
https://canvasknightroms.blogspot.in/2015/10/mods.html?m=1
You can find correct stock ROMs here,
https://canvasknightroms.blogspot.in/2015/10/stock-rom.html?m=1
Flashing the sim fix above will eventually fix SN too.
And yes many custom ROMs are bundled with SuperSU so you should use that.
To convert from kingroot user to super su use this guide,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ca...ck-switch-kingroot-to-supersu-easily-t3426965
And lastly mtkdroidtools is a good tool and you should definitely have it just in case for backing up stuff and tinkering with ADB.
With all that said, you should join our Whatsapp group for more faster help and updates by messaging me on my Whatsapp No. +919468519959
Enjoy!
Edit: writing all this is a pain in ass,at least one thanks is deserved
Thank you so much...

Hi Ak,
I went through your entire post and more or less got most of the useful and helpful information. I have not gone through all the links and will do so in due course.
I have been on your website and have read quite a bit and was happy to see the dedication and commitment to help people like us.
I am sure the phone like you said is stable and away from hardware issues. I will consider flashing vs. 3 soon. Yes, i agree with you there are more choices for vs. 3. I did peep into the website last week to see the big list of custom ROM's for vs. 3.
Last but not the least, God bless you. Shalom.

Hi, I've been struggling big time to update my device to Android 13. I bought mine when only 1.1.7 hotfix was out and therefore, now that I have unlocked the bootloader (yes, even unlock critical) and rooted the device, I'm not able to install 1.1.8, let alone Android 13. I have already bricked one and managed to get a new one but I don't want to risk it again. I've searched all over Google to a proper guide to update to Android 13, even with sideload, but it gives me an error regarding the payload file, at about 48% of the progress. Tried the *#*#682#*#* method but it stops with error code 20. I have tried flashing the stock boot file but same thing, code 20 from manual update. I'm pretty much desperate at this point and I'm even thinking about unrooting, lock the bootloader again and hopefully update it without an itch, but I really wouldn't want to wipe the device, so, if there's somebody there that could help me through a 100% working process, I'll always be in your debt.

The best part of this whole thing is that you're rooted.
Do a backup with Swift Backup or what ever your backup app you prefer. Wipe it back to stock without locking the bootloader, make sure your sim card is not inserted then do your OTA updates.
As for the second device you bricked, there's a unbrick tool here:
unbrick tool- EDL Flash-Read-Repair Region Change tool
unbrick tool Now available for Nothing Phone1.. Features: Read Firmware (EDL) (locked bootloader) Flash Firmware (EDL) (locked bootloader) backup EFS (EDL) (locked bootloader) Wipe FRP & userdata (EDL) (locked bootloader) Size: 2.7GB Version...
forum.xda-developers.com
Just need to get or make a EDL cable then flash and you'll be back in business.

First bricked device was replaced in RMA. But yeah, rooted, unlocked and yet nothing works. I was thinking about wiping it, even if I don't really want to because it's a pain every time. Man, Android modding when to ****e and I'm leaning more and more towards getting an iPhone and call it a day, maybe with a jailbreak

Swift does their backups well so from wipe to setup depending on how many apps ya got took like 20 mins to do?
Once you get to A13 tho, my god the battery life is amazing. I don't use my NP1 as a daily driver but it sits in my pocket along with my daily OP7Pro and it out lasts it by a mile. Really hyped for the NP2 and what they bring optimization wise.
Or in your case you could carry both and see how you feel about it xD
Oh and it's likely the patched boot image (while rooted) that's causing the update errors. Once you restore the stock boot image you should be able to update without issue.

Welp, back to stock you go then haha ADB it to EDL then run the unbrick tool and you should be at 0
I might be actually lazy enough to wait for a hint of a custom twrp-like recovery and go from there

Might not be stable on first release but yea that's in the rumor pipelines
Yeah, I think I'll wait. A12 is still really nice. Some bugs here and there but perfectly usable and battery is basically infinite.
First of all, to jailbreak the iPhone and set it up correctly with all the needed software that jailbreaking provides nowdays ... is actually harder than it was a few years ago.
Secondly, if you had just read through the full topic containing the Nothing OS repo, you would have found several people with the same problem that u had, who had solved it successfully.
Go back to stock, wipe, and redo the official step-by-step of updating, will work like a charm. if you want to jailbreak. First, read through the posts of others to see if there are any problems that you would like to avoid, and if there are, don't do it.
You are lucky enough to have had your first device replaced by a new one just like that. Updating while rooted was always a problem for Android, and it always varied per device. it was up to the one who is rooting to check the situation regarding his/her specific model
You could try flashing the fastboot ROMs made by @ot_inc (it's not 100% safe for your data so make a backup in any case).
[Restore NothingOS & Magisk] Nothing Phone(1) Fastboot ROM(Full ROM) & boot.img Global v1.1.6
Fastboot ROM and boot.img for NothingPhone(1) are now available. v1.1.6 is available. Sorry for my poor English, I'm Japanese. https://reindex-ot.github.io/

Where is the step by step ? The one that actually works ?
hmm, honestly it may be on somewhere in the first few pages (not the first one) but you can also search the google, now there are several sites quoting options for updating nothing phone.
sorry if i sounded harsh
anyways, if you go back to stock, and update the device from 1.1.7 to 1.5 incl. all hotfix updates, it should go smoothly.
I also said if you want to jailbreak in one moment in my post when i meant to say if you want to root.
Rooting nowdays is easy and hard at the same time. easy to pull off, but hard to understand that now there are several different steps that need to be done to turn the rooted device into a fully functional one. and for many it is not worth it, but for those that are interested, I would just advise reading through all the posts carefully and learning to search efficiently. Not only will you find the answer yourself, thus remembering it more clearly, but you will also be introduced to facts you were unaware of.
good luck, the most important step is to go back to stock succesfully, read the whole nothing os repo thread just to make sure you are not missing something
