Ok so long story short, I bought an unlocked S5 off CL. Turns out its the 900H which means it doesnt have the necessary radio to be able to use 4G/LTE. It also wont locate satellites for gps accurately. I am assuming this is because of only having 3g access???
Anyways, got my hands on a 900AZ (cricket) model, which does support AT&T 4G/LTE (I think). But it is locked and wont work with my sim. I was wondering if I rooted this thing and flashed a stock AT&T rom would that get me around the lock issue? Or am I going to have to just suck it up and pay $40 for an unlock code?
I tried searching but couldnt find an answer to this, thanks for any help.

Sorry but the network unlock doesn't consist on flashing a ROM of the company and VoilĂ its unlocked. You need a special code to unlock the network. There use to be a method for the Galaxy S - Galaxy S3 (can't remember if S4 was supported) but nothing for the Galaxy S5 yet. I guess for now the ones that I have read that work are coming from unlocking services companies. :crying:
Has any find a way to fix the issue with the latest ota update on the sprint ls997. its saying invalid sim and cant get into the bootoader so no root or even into the hidden menu option
What do you mean by "wave lost"? In order for people to help you, you need to detail what exactly you are trying to do, what you previously did before issues arose, and what is currently wrong with the phone. The ls997 doesn't have an unlockable bootloader or fastboot commands, so there isn't anything you can do from the bootloader.
After updating my lg ls997 to ZVC firmware and resetting the phone its saying invalid sim so no network service cant load into boot-loader either or go into hidden menu. I cant make or received any calls or even flash a different rom
Ah. There's a thread somewhere by runningnak3d that details the issues people are having with unlocking the carrier variants. If you are using the ls997 (Sprint device) on another network, many people have been reporting issues with the unlocked state resetting upon updating or wiping the data partition. Many of the people have root though, so they can either downgrade their firmware, or try different modems. If you're not rooted currently, there is no way to do this at the moment for Sprint devices with zv8 or higher due to antirollback being enabled. Here's the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/hardware-modem-modem-firmware-ril-t3744860
@Zhanozuki Are you using your phone on a network besides Sprint? If so, was it working before you took the OTA update?
Also, were you rooted, or were you asking if there is a way to root?

Yes i was using it on different network in my country which is "Digicel". i didn't have root because i just received the phone after purchasing it off eBay. I didn't get time to root it i just put in my sim using it for 3 hours saw the update went ahead and update then reset when i lost network:crying: now my phone is useless
Hmm. @runningnak3d this is almost the exact same situation that happened to those us996 users from England. They took the 10n ota and suddenly their phones could no longer connect to their network. One of them sent his phone to LG and it was found that there were non-LG parts in the phone that would cost 378 to replace. Some of these refurb phones being sold by not reputable vendors are replaced with knock-off Chinese mobos and parts that break very easily. May not be the case here but just a thought.
Here is a link to that thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-us996-radio-off-security-update-t3718507
It think it much more likely that the Sprint modem had bands enabled that Sprint doesn't use, and they sent out a modem that disabled those bands.
OMG OH NOES someone can use our phone on another network -- hurry up and disable that!

Hello everyone,
I have an unbranded, factory unlocked U1 Samsung Galaxy S8 that I am wanting to switch to Verizon Prepaid. Currently, it's running on Tracfone with the T-Mobile network. Wi-Fi Calling is a must-have for me, but I've heard that it will not work on Verizon with the factory unlocked Galaxy S8 model. It currently works on Tracfone/T-Mobile, though.
Rather than going the extreme route of getting another phone, I was hoping that it would be possible to just flash the Verizon firmware on it in order to gain Wi-Fi Calling and other carrier features from Verizon.
Below are some questions I have about this.
1. Is this likely to work, or would I just be better off to get a branded phone?
2. Is the process as simple as it sounds on the SamMobile site? Or does the process involve something more like this?
3. Will I be able to receive OTA updates after flashing carrier firmware?
4. Are there any particular issues or pitfalls that I should be aware of before attempting this? (besides possible data loss, of course)
5. Will I be able to flash it back 100% to the stock firmware later on if I want to sell it?
6. Is there any other way to get Verizon Wi-Fi Calling while staying on the unlocked firmware?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!
So I followed directions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g6/help/unlock-lg-g6-ls993zva-sprint-version-t3779966
Went to: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-us997-firmwares/#tab=firmwares and downloaded: US99721d_02_1211.kdz
Follow all instructions at first link.
I can confirmed it worked for me. Havent had any problems. THIS will NOT allow bootloader unlock (already tried it).
Software Version: US99721d (shows in phone settings).
Atleast ALL V* bloatware is gone.
I am not liable if your phone stops working however, it worked 100% for me and can now use Wifi Calling features.
US997 is unlocked firmware (not bootloader) meaning you can use with almost all carriers.
XDA admin, if this is wrong forum to post in please move for me thanks!
Worked for me. Also wanna try to flash European software, do the TWRP, root and other stuff. Ill give you the feedback if it runs properly.
EDIT: I can confirm that phone works on h870 20H software, but it doesnt recognize sim card. Trying to flash modem from us997. Also i can confirm that bootloader unlock menu is avialable
EDIT: I managed to combine h973 20h canadian rom with h970 20h europe open rom to have all the languages (I'm from Poland). Now I'm gonna try to root it somehow.
As for know I know that US997 and H973 roms works on our VS988 without any problem. H870 have problems with modem, but it has a workaround (do a hybrid rom)
Cool Thanks. I know there are still lots of people that have this phone and want to figure out a way to unlock OR root it. However I'm glad its bloatware free.
So you have EU version phone? Or firmware?
Im on original VS988 > US997. SIM works, wifi calling. OEM unlock toggle works. You did the wipes and stuff in his steps? Im sure you did. Hope you get it working 100% !
So since the bootloader will not unlock all this does is remove bloarware? Still can't root?
Correct. No root. Removes all bloat and gives additional options like wifi calling. Verizon had it but if you switched providers wifi calling wouldnt work. Plus LG theme store is on it for some sweet themes. Some are free but the good ones cost a few bucks.
meh.
think Im just going to break down and buy a US997.
Phone itself is perfectly adequate. Only problem I have is I cant use the navigation app I want instead of stupid Google Maps in Android Auto.
my work phone is an iPhone and I'm starting to think maybe its time to switch. I switched ages ago to Android because iPhones were so locked down. Now Android phones are even more locked down....and the data collection is getting ridiculous.
ooh, this is interesting. which region did you select? there's two (2) available for download with the same kdz name you provided (UCK and UCL, both appear to be for us cellular). not sure what the difference is between the two, if any.
is your phone able to get ota updates after flashing? if so, does it come from us cellular, or is it pushed from verizon still?
I chose UCL. I dont know about auto updates, selecting check for update says "up to date".

was thinking UCL too since the UCK seems to be specific to OK area based on the name. thanks for the confirmation; will try this out tonight.
You're Welcome.
The firmware overall does seem a little quicker. Battery seems to improved. My wife used my phone yesterday for about 3-4 hours. I charged it before she left, she didnt actually use it so I'm guessing it was in standy by. Anyways when she got back it was still at 100% charge. Ive been typing on it for about 15 minutes and its at 99% so seems to be alot better.
I'm on a us997 and I want volte do I just flash the Verizon radio? Also is there a way to do it from recovery? I don't want to do it by PC unless I need to

Hello, you managed to unlock the bootloader?
Nope, I actually dont have time to work with my G6 because it's my daily driver. I managed to install h873 software and everything is working. You can also install h870 software but i think it don't have same antena drivers because WIFI and BT isnt working. I'm gonna to try unlock my G6 on h870 software, but I don't know when it gonna be... I've also tried to root it but every method I tried failed :c Also I think that you can unlock it on h870 without any trouble but SIM, BT etc wont work. The problem is taht when you unlock it on h870 and go back to vs or h873 software to get SIM working, you get locked device instantly xdd
Install US997 over VS988
works as described. used exact OP instructions and 8.0 rom. had to hard reset afterwards but all went well. phone was vs 988 with page plus as carrier. hot spot works after rom replacement per OP instructions. had no need for factory reset. all in all A+.
Hi guys
So I was thinking. Will it be possible to flash a kdz that already has an unlocked bootloader or extract the bootloader and flash it. Any ideas?
How about my phone is easier to use? 997, with this method, but now what I want to do h870 to test the update of android 9 you think work and I saw that the bands should be able to work in theory. The version has no interest in the subject of the root, but if the phone is updated. Sorry for my English

how do i flash the modem from us997 unto the h870? Please help
H870s over vs988
is it a good idea ? My phone has that notification of humidity detected so I can't charge it and I can't deactivated also it's so laggy ? Is it ok ? Cuz I've never done this on a LG
anyone try using US998 or US998z?
US997 does not have Pie. I would say Yet but as old as this phone is getting i doubt there is any work being done on getting it for the us997.

You can root your device now very easily with su98 zip. I have rooted mine and am now looking to unlock the bootloader, no lick so far.
Bought "Unlocked" phone, has sprint branding, seller insists that's how Samsung works
Hi everyone, I bought a Galaxy S10+SM-G975U (same model that all 4 major US networks use) that was sold as "Unlocked" without specifying that it is Sim unlocked, Network unlocked, or Factory unlocked. Most of the time unless a seller specifies which unlocked then it means the phone is Factory unlocked, I gathered this from 9 years of buying and selling Android devices so it's not just a guess.
When I got the phone Sprint OMADM pops up and tells me I have an incomplete activation, "about phone" told me it was Sprint Network Unlocked; after a week it now says unknown under "Brand" in the "status" section.
The seller said that when you buy a factory unlocked Samsung phone and put in a network sim card that Samsung then loads the branding (bloat in my opinion).
1. Is this true that Samsung could have loaded Sprint OMADM?
2. If true can I remove it so that I don't have to "Force Stop" it after each startup?
3. Is there any piece of software or database that I can look up the origin of this phone so that I can either change my eBay review of the sale and apologize for my mistake, or affirm that indeed the seller failed to disclose branding that he knew wouldn't go away when a buyer puts in an ATT simcard such as I have.
I've read one single thread by a user and not a Samsung official that claims that you can pop in a network sim card and then restart to change some software but I have not found even one more thread mentioning this phenomenon.
My background:
I've bought factory unlocked my Moto Pure X and a OnePlus 5 and neither did any ridiculous **** when I switched networks, so that's why I doubt this claim.
I bought a AT&T branded one for use on TMobile. It kept popping up errors. I flashed the unlocked firmware and it works great. I get unlocked updates and everything. You'll need to look on here but there's a walkthrough somewhere. But there are a few advantages for running the carrier branded version so you could flash the AT&T firmware instead. I wanted less bloat so I went with the unlocked one.
Think this might be the thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/sm-g975u-firmware-downloads-tmo-spr-att-t3908657
That said after I did all this I did read there was going to be a update to the firmware which would do what you described.... Switching firmware based on the sim card. Never seen it happen on mine still on unlocked unbranded firmware. Maybe this phone is running old firmware prior to the update that implemented this?
not normal. LIke you, I purchased an 'unlocked' phone and when I powered on, it was a Verizon phone. I popped in my TMo sim, and it worked OK, but I would get the annoying Verizon popups reminding me that I'm on on their network. I installed the unlocked firmware and it went away.
But there's more: when the phone had a problem, I sent it back to Samsung under warranty (still unlocked) and when it was returned, I just installed the original sim and powered on. Now it seems to be a TMo phone, and when I look at the phone's software version, it shows TMB/TMB/VZW. It's been receiving OTA updates and I've disabled bloatware, so I'm OK with it.
Just to be clear I'm not going to flash anything. I'll just turn around and sell it. I need a stable phone for work and I used to mess around with flashing different roms and while it was fun it was a frequent activity and I don't have time for all the annoying trouble this phone has been. Thanks everyone.
Flashing rom is different from flashing a stock firmware. In your case the only way to be completely off from the previous network you are getting the notification from is to flash a G975U1 or G975U stock firmware which is unbranded or your network branded respectively and you are good to go. I switched my yesterday and am okay ?. I will be happy to assist should you change your mind
