Ok so long story short, I bought an unlocked S5 off CL. Turns out its the 900H which means it doesnt have the necessary radio to be able to use 4G/LTE. It also wont locate satellites for gps accurately. I am assuming this is because of only having 3g access???
Anyways, got my hands on a 900AZ (cricket) model, which does support AT&T 4G/LTE (I think). But it is locked and wont work with my sim. I was wondering if I rooted this thing and flashed a stock AT&T rom would that get me around the lock issue? Or am I going to have to just suck it up and pay $40 for an unlock code?
I tried searching but couldnt find an answer to this, thanks for any help.

Sorry but the network unlock doesn't consist on flashing a ROM of the company and VoilĂ its unlocked. You need a special code to unlock the network. There use to be a method for the Galaxy S - Galaxy S3 (can't remember if S4 was supported) but nothing for the Galaxy S5 yet. I guess for now the ones that I have read that work are coming from unlocking services companies. :crying:

Wasn't sure where to post this as there wasn't an option for Cricket S4. I am however trying to switch this to Bell so i thought this may be best.
Hello folks, I recently purchased a Samsung S4 from Cricket Wireless. I need to unlock this unit to work on Bell Canada which runs CDMA and GSM technologies. After alot of discussion with Cricket they did end up giving me a 8 digit unlock code. The problem is it runs on CDMA and when I take the Cricket sim out to install the Bell sim it doesn't give me the option to enter an unlock code. I did the dialer option and that didn't work either. All the phone says is invalid sim.Thank you all in advance.
Any luck unlocking S4
HI, I know its been a while since you posted this thread but I just came across it. I am trying to get a Cricket S4 onto the bell network and need to unlock it. Did you ever have any luck unlocking yours? I would greatly appreciate it if you have any advice for me. Thank you very much.
Sup all...
Simple enough question. I've spent many days doing searches here in XDA and google but haven't been able to find a clear answer. Or maybe I didn't look hard enough or understand the responses to others questions regarding this topic.
I recently got an S4 (i337m) from Telus. From what I understand, this is the Canadian model (jfltecan). I am not sure if it is unlocked or not however. I know that I should just use a sim from a dif carrier to test, but I don't have access to one at the moment. No one I know has a micro sim that is with a carrier I could use to test with.
I've installed TWRP and flashed Slimbean and afterward I flashed Paranoidandroid roms successfully if that is some sort of indication as to the lock/unlock state of the phone.
So is there any other way to tell? Is there a method of unlocking this phone other than using the *#0011# method or similar methods that I've tried and do not work. Is an Odin method available?
Thanks
If you got it from Telus, directly, 99.99% it's locked
The only way to confirm is by popping in a SIM from another carrier.
I think it depends on how u buy the device. I think if you get the phone on a contract, its locked, but i think if you purchase the device for full price, it should be unlocked. That's atleast how i think it works.
You are most likely sim locked. There is no Odin method to unlock. You should really just buy a code to unlock. Be very careful using the free unlock methods. After a number of attempts the phone will lock itself so you'll never be able to unlock. Others have also messed up their phones trying it.
Buy a code or even safer, FastGSM.com USB cable method to unlock
I am also on telus, if this works like the s3 unlock you need to be on the stock Rom, can be rooted but must be stock.check the s4 thread to be sure though. You can go back to the custom Rom after you unlock and the phone should still be unlocked
Your phone's boot loader is unlocked. Meaning we can install a custom recovery and install a custom ROM very easily. Your phone is Sim locked if you bought it from telus. This means you cannot insert a Sim card in your phone unless its telus. Any other carrier will not work. You can unlock your phone through Telus. They have restrictions on this however. You're better off buying an unlock code off the internet. Its fast and most likely cheaper and no it does not void warranty. Hope this helps
Thanks!
Just wanted to thank everyone for the replies/info.
My phone was sim locked. I did the easy method of purchasing an unlock code from a local shop here. All is good. I can use the phone on any supported GSM carrier and I am able to flash custom roms and what not.
Thanks again to all for the info. Much appreciated and it helped me increase my understanding on this topic.

I have done lots of reading on this and I am still not sure if the solution really exist ...
AT&T Sansung Galaxy S4 i337 MF3 build
1. Having MF3 build, none of the easy unlock solution worked.
2. Can I go back to any previous stock ROM from MF3 such that any of the easy unlock process would work?
3. Will the rooting methods using this be able to sim unlock my device?
4. I assume not, but will updating my MF3 build to any recent ones (MJ6 or MJ9) solve my problem?
Ultimately I want to unlock my device without having to pay $20- $30.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Lucky you, I just SIM unlocked my friends Galaxy S4 i337 MF3 from AT&T last night so I can tell you your options.
If your phone is off contract (fully paid) you can call AT&T and ask them for an unlock code.
Pay $10-$30 for a factory unlock code for your device from Ebay or whatever.
Root your device, block the AT&T updater from updating you to 4.3, and get the app Region Lock Away from the Play Store.
AT&T denied us the unlock code so we went with the Region Lock Away app from the Play Store and today my friend just activated his AT&T S4 with a T-Mobile prepaid plan. They transferred his number within a couple hours (4 hours or so) and he's been playing with 4G LTE, texting and calling all morning. He hasn't had cell phone internet before because AT&T is so expensive so he is pretty happy.

I did it and it works. My phone is unlocked now. Is it safe to update to 4.3 now ?

Probably not a good idea. The unlock is a software unlock so updating it might remove it and you might lose root capability as well. For now, wait and see if you can still root after the update. If you can, then you can update, root and reinstall the Region Lock Away.
I think I can get a T-Mobile S5 and a SIM unlock and use it on AT&Ts network. Is this correct? I really want an unlocked bootloader and the abilty to run non touchwiz roms. Also, is it possible to create a hybrid kernel gto support AOSP roms under touchwiz. Never mind, locked boot loader can't change the kernel anyway, can I?
The other option may be the verizon dev edition phone. Is it possible to unlock it for ATT Network use? I'm a developer myself but just into android and cell phones in general, and I do not yet know what parts fit togrther

The T-Mobile S5 is capable of being unlocked and used on at&t's network.
I use a T-Mobile variant on AT&T and love it.
All the required bands, excellent speeds and plenty of ROM options.

Do I have to find an active T-Mobile sim?

First of all don't just randomly post in other peoples threads. Do you have a question? Thoroughly use the site's search function and search google. If, and only if, you haven't found your answer you start your own thread (not just randomly post in other peoples threads).
As far as I know you need a working sim card of another operator. I'm sure you can order them for free online.
Don't post in this thread no more. Make your own instead.
Here is a really good start for you. Good luck. :good:
Hello everyone,
yesterday, a family member gifted me an s7 from the USA (SM-G930P). He bought the phone off SPRINT as a SPRINT unlocked version, and, of course, because I live in Europe and want to use the phone with a European SIM card I have the "hands free activation" mark that is sitting on the top left edge of the display. I also noticed some changes, for example the "mobile data" toggle is nowhere to be found and also I don't have the options to choose the network mode (2G/3G/4G). I love the phone and I also would like to keep using it, I only need some answers from you guys.
My first question is, if the phone will actually let me use 4G network with my European SIM card, or will I be limited to 3G?
My second question is, If I can flash an international firmware for another carrier and another country on the phone, and if so, will I have the advantages of that firmware, like the Mobile Data Toggle??
Thank you very much for your answers.
If you install the 'Network' app you might be able to change the network type.
In general you should be able to use an unlocked P variant with a foreign SIM but you may have to activate with a Sprint SIM first.
You can't flash the international version since it's Exynos and the P version is Qualcomm CPU.
I am not sure if this model has Samsung region lock which is another thing to consider.
If I was you I would try to flash the U firmware (US unlocked) as it has the most support for international 4G bands among the Qualcomm US models. It also doesn't have all of the Sprint bloatware on it.

Thank you for your reply. I am currently using the European Sim from my carrier and I have no problems with it. I managed to get rid of the Bloatware by using Package Disabler Pro, but it still sits there somewhere on my phone. So far, the phone is working very well and other than the bloat sitting on my memory and the lack of LTE, I have no complaints.
Can you tell me if someone has tried to flash the U firmware on a P model with success?

Could you tell me how you did it, or link me a guide??
I had bought an unlocked Sprint galaxy S7 (930P) off ebay which died on me. Got it repaired from the service center and they sent me a locked device instead. The phone is currently on Software Version - G930PVPS4BQC1 and the hardware revision is Rev 0.6. I'll be using the phone in India and have a few questions.
1. I need to get this SIM unlocked from a service online. Does anyone know of a reliable place to do so?
2. If I flash the U Rom on it after unlocking it, will I lose the unlock? (I don't mind downgrading from Nougat to Marshmallow)
3. Should I unlock first then flash the ROM or flash the ROM first and then try to get it unlocked?
4. Will flashing the ROM directly unlock the phone itself?
Please advise.
...
you could try gsm zambia to unlock your phone it works i tried it myself a few days ago, also after my phone got unlocked i flash the U firmware/rom and the unlocked remained. so you should unlock your device first then flash the U firmware :good:
PS. if you one nougat better to downgrade if you can do marshmallow so when you wont have any issues flashing to U firmware. :cool
