Hey, I have a new Fire TV Series 4 (brandenburg) which is showing current FireOS 7.2.4.0 but Amazon’s website says latest version is 7.2.7.9. Does anyone else have this issue? I’ve tried updating resetting and it says up to date. Is there a way to manually install the latest version?
You can't manually install update bins but you can clear the update app of old data in case that is holding things up.
Use ADB to call this command:
Code:
adb shell pm clear com.amazon.device.software.ota
You should get a 'success' message, then go to FireOS settings and check for updates again.

Thanks. It cleared it as once restarted it says "Last Checked: Never" lol but unfortunately still won't update. They're apparently aware of the issue as I contacted support and they said their technical teams are working on it.

Did you have any joy with them? This has been going on for ages now, bought a new tv with massively out of date firmware.

Nope. It's the same story "you have the latest version" even though I clearly don't. I tried contacting the social media team and they had me sent over information and then I got a reply back "I don't see an account with this email" and nothing since. I'm probably going to have them replace under warranty and cross my fingers the new one comes with new firmware without an issue.
This is an absolute joke - I might actually get this returned.

Finally after contacting support through their social media team and giving them access to the device logs it looks like they fixed it. I just checked for an update and it's now downloading the latest version 7.2.9.2

I can't seem to get my update to go for anything. Not rooted, no custom recovery etc.
Went to check for the update, picked UK, made a Samsung account etc. It tries to connect then I just get "Connection Failed" after it told me an update is required.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks,
JD
connection has been up and down tonight

same here. sometimes you get the feeling that its your tab doing this but I guess its total server failure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118132
it seems that the servers are working now. I successfully updated my galaxy tab 10.1 to android 3.1:
http://twitpic.com/59i50t
Yep, it is working now. Woke up this morning and it had downloaded it. Just got it applied.
Time to get CW and root back..
Thanks,
JD
so we DO have to re-do the root process once we apply the update via OTA ? Dammit.

Try contacting tech support they might have something for you to flash. And if they do, you should post the files and process here. Unfortunately without solid kernel, or recovery information there's little we can do.

Hopefully, cause I don´t want send it back
After chatting with Amazon, the problem wasn´t solved! But I looked a bit more on the Amazon Homepage and found where I can download the Software Update to 6.1:
Download Link
And here is the instruction:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_k6_updatesi?nodeId=200790620
I will try it now and report what happends!
I think you already have that don't you?
When I got my KF, it immediately before I did anything updated to that version.
Code:
Current Version 6.1_user_2017120
Yes I have the one but I´ll try to run the update again manuelly, or do you think t wont work?
Masterc, didn't you say in another thread that you are in Austria?
You should mention that here if it is the case as it might affect the responses you get.
Yes thats true, but Wifi worked before I downloaded and installed the update! It also showed my name... the Amazon support told me it should work abroad..
I tried to install the update again, but it didn´t solve the problem.
So after playing around a while, the network pops up (yeahh) but when I enter the (right) passwort it always shows:
Error in conncection
unable to connect to selected access point. Please check the password you have provided
the kindle found my hotspot from my galaxy note (without password) and it connected just one time for arround 10 seconds..
Now I can´t connect again... quite intressting
Hopefully it is not the hardware - but I don´t think so otherwise I couldn´t download the update.
Hello everyone,
I just received my S4 AT&T (manufacture refurb, eBay), but the phone already is giving me headaches.
Every 5 minutes appears in the notifications the following message:
Security Notice:
Unauthorized actions have been detected. Tap here for more information. And then I tap and it appears: cancel or reboot.
After rebooting the phone the message keeps appears (is also keeps appearing if I tap cancel).
I think it's related with the wifi connection. I made some tests, and when I'm only in data connecting, the message do not appear.
Anyone have an idea? I really appreciate,
Matheus
I got the same problem
Phone was dead and i had to use odin to get back to stock.
Since that, I keep getting that warning too
Keep rebooting but still get the message ... all the time
very annoying

Its root

I just rooted my Galaxy S4 and started receiving these notifications. It is related to 'Knox' - Samsung's newish security feature, made to appease corporate customers. I side loaded the latest version of SuperSU, installed it, and during the install it asks if I want to disable Knox - said yes, issue gone. Note that you have to have root to install SuperSU

I just checked here, and my phone already have root access !!! it came "factory" rooted. It's VERY WEIRD. Again, I bought it from Ebay, and the seller stated in the ad: Manufacture Refurbished.
Once I'm new in this Root World, should I be worried about that? Like, it's is possible the seller put some malicious app in the sold phones? Sorry about the conspiracy theories, but I've never seen a supposed brand new phone (even though it's refurbished) came already with root.
Thanks

First thing I'd do with a new phone bought of eBay would be to flash the stock firmware in Odin. That way you know what you got and it would be like new. Just my $0.02.

I just started a similar thread and then saw this one. This happened to me also but as far as I know I did flash stock firmware, fnb1. It isn't the latest but it worked after several others failed so I just left it but now I have the same problem. Is it possible that I rooted the phone accidentally? I thought about trying towelroot to fix it but then I am rooted for sure. By the way, I never have found the latest stock firmware to be able to flash it.
Root MethodAmazon has just released a new firmware update, blocking the fastboot commands necessary for root/custom ROMs (fastboot boot). We need more information about this update. If people could update their tablet to this latest version without getting it stuck in the botloop, we could see the information regarding the update and get root out for this ROM ASAP. Thanks to anyone who sacrifices root/ROMs for development.
List of things you can't do:
Downgrade to an earlier release
Boot a .img from Fastboot
List of things you can do:
Install and use the Google Play Framework and Services
Root
Install Custom ROMS via FlashFire
Remove Lockscreen Ads
Remove Amazon Bloatware
Feel free to comments things that worked/didn't work on your device.

Can anyone test if the Google Framework Install tutorial works on this update?
It does.
However, DON'T TRY TO DOWNGRADE BACK TO THE 5.0.1 FIRMWARE. IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. I found that out the hard way. It's stuck in a preloader reboot-loop.
Added list of what you are able to do on the update.
Can someone with a brand new Fire & an open wifi network within range, confirm that it will not automatically connect to wifi? I would appreciate it greatly.
Yes, I do believe that you should have to agree to connect to wifi. And that's what I vaguely recall from my Fire. But I'd like to be 100% sure. Don't want to take the slightest chance. My friend has a new fire in the box & has an open wifi network within range of their place.

You have to go through the setup, but originally I just skipped that part, even though I was next to a Starbucks, and it didn't connect.
Doesn't Starbucks wifi require you to click to agree to their terms of use before you can freely browse or download? So Internet would not actually be available initially to the update script.
Pretty much, I trust amazon on this issue, as far as I can throw them. I don't want to presume that a OTA proccess won't silently connect, while the Fire otherwise appears to be waiting for the ok to connect to wifi.
Bloat removal
Hi just to add this thread it looks like you cannot remove any of the bloat as I was able to do on 5.01

Thanks, added.
This is bullsh!t. the ENTIRE reason about 5,000 people bought this tab last week is because of root, fastboot and CM. If I get my tab soon I can offer any assistance you need. I'm not sure if it will be possible to dump any part of the system, boot, etc. without fastboot or twrp, but I'm sure we could figure something out.

Has anyone tried kingroot on 5.1.1?
Experts please take a look at this
What was changed in OS 5.1.1?
If anyone can get the frimware update or capture it id like to test it out
running 5.1.1 & all I could manage to load was Google Account manager. The rest (Framework Services, etc) says something like "App not installed" & nothing else, every time I try.
scratch that..... found found a couple that did load for me.
Damn! I did this (tried to downgrade, got bricked) a day before you posted this. I should probably replace mine...
My unrooted Fire upgraded to 5.1.1 last night before I had any idea it was coming. I'm willing to try whatever is needed to assist with further research if I could be of any help.
unlikely it would work, but did anyone on 5.1.1 try

I received a new (to me) 2017 Shield via RMA from nVidia. I plug it in and go to set it up but when I get to entering your google account info, it consistently fails. The option to use androidtv dot com/setup and enter the provided PIN fails with "Something went wrong" (yes I'm on the same wifi, also fails when wired). The option to type in your account credentials also consistently fails saying my user name and password don't match. Now before you say "learn 2 type", immediately after not logging in, I get a security notification saying a new device has logged in to my account. This same result happens with any gmail account I try. I have factory reset the Shield (as instructed by nVidia support) to no avail. I have contacted Google support but they say it's nVidia's problem. I'm not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. Did you manage to get this fixed by chance?
Yes. I fixed it by flashing a recovery image. 8.0.1 just caused a boot loop but flashing 8.0 worked.

Thanks for getting back to me. I assume that to flash a recovery image, I'll need to unlock the bootloader? I was trying to avoid flashing, but it doesn't look like another solution will work...

I tried quite literally everything I could think of - multiple google accounts, different networks including hot-spotting my cell service, multiple factory resets. It seems my problem may have been a very outdated OS as after I was able to flash, the setup process was in a newer android style. It didn't occur to me that what I was seeing previously was "old" and may explain why it wouldn't connect to google.
Keep in mind, you can lock the bootloader again when you're finished.

Cool - thanks for the advice. Like you, I tried everything too. I tried 2FA on/off, turned on the "Less secure apps" option in my Google Account > Security. I also tried to factory reset without any success, as well as using a different Wi-Fi network and opened a new dummy Google Account just to make sure my original account wasn't the problem! None of it worked and had me tearing my hair out.
I have a 2015 Shield TV that was sealed and unused until the last week. I have never seen an issue before where even an older Android device cannot be signed into Google. At least it is a lesson learned for the future....!
Anyway, I've successfully flashed a newer version of Android now and it works. Hallelujah!
Right guys I have just got a replacement NVidia pro 500gb from them for a bricked unit and I am having the same problem. As I am a novice I have no clue about flashing an updated image to it. Is there anyone who is will to spell it out for me in easy to follow instructions??
