Hey guys,
I've gone through several of the large Android headunit threads to try and identify the one I have, but I haven't been able to tell which one it is.
This is the one I bought. It looks physically similar to the carjoying one
Ebay item 201395440710
Sorry, I'm unable to post pics as per the forum rules until 10 posts.
It's one of the Huifei. The only way to tell the exact huifei is to look in the settings window of the unit itself.
Thanks, I got a bit anxious and haven't received it yet. Still going through the many pages on these head units
So I got my HU, but my MCU version isn't like what I have seen in the main thread. It is is all numeric - MCU Version - 4.3.13-1.10-610101-150413
I'd like to try out one of the custom images, but not sure which one would work with this.
any conclusion?
Hello people
Last year (2019) I purchased a Pioneer AVIC-Z710DAB head unit for my car. After realizing that the maps on the GPS are very old and awfully expensive to update, I really want to root the device and install an Android- or Linux based custom rom. Obviously I do not want to install a custom rom that does not provide equal functionality to the Pioneer system, but I don't want to keep the Pioneer system any longer as the GPS functionality is useless with old maps and the also old available updated maps are $150. I realize that the rooting and installation of a new system will require some time / work, but this does not matter a long as it's possible to do it!
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as custom roms that support functionality such as Bluetooth mobile devices, GPS, DVD / CD / MP3 discs, DAB+ and rear view camera etc?
Where can I find this rom and installation instructions? I have searched online for hours, but so far I have only found one page containing broken links.
As I am a new member on this forum, I cannot share this link in this post. But the page title is "The AVIC development MOD", from around 2016 and all links are broken / not working.
Any information is highly appreciated!
Best regards,
The norwegian guy

Custom ROM will not be shared in here. There is no community for it.
Nearly all Pioneer head units have a proprietary OS. It seems to be android based.

Hello. Still have not tried the link I was given by rigattoni, but I was wondering if anyone has any update on this?
I am now considering to buy a new head unit with Android OS. but this seems like a risk. Most of the ones I have seen are to me previously unknown Chinese brands and I do not trust any Pioneer head units with Android OS to work with Google maps and/or Waze amongst other apps!
- Is there any way to replace the OS of a Pioneer unit with Android OS with working standard Android apps and Google Play?
- If not; Are the Chinese head units with Android OS any good? Example brands are Erisin and Eonon, which seem to come with Android 10.
Thank you in advance!
Hi, have y'all seen this info/forum yet? It refers to information regarding development for the Pioneer head unit(s) OP was asking about. Edit: Going back over, I see OP specifically mentions this forum. Well thank you

Hello everyone, first a greeting
and then I wanted to ask for information, having just bought an android car radio for my dacia sandero, and I found some problems:
1) bluetooth connects me ONLY to apple android phones but to no ODBII devices, I have tried 2 without success.
From here they go into settings I can't understand which car radio model is mine, Android 10 MCU STx, 8-inch display I try to attach some photos, if someone can help me with bluetooth or even flash the rom.
Thank you in advance.

Hello Everyone
I have a Geely Tugella Model 2022 and I've tried various ways to enter the developer mode in the GKUI to no avail.
My HU (Head Unit) Info:
System version: 0.2.9(61)
Hardware version: HW:V1.2
Firmware version: DL-5JA-PBAPO1A
Paying 32K+ USD for this car and not having a decent infotainment experience is such a bummer and so lame, just because Apple CarPlay & Android Auto is not supported in China doesn't mean that the global market should suffer from this limitation.
Some type of a movement happened in the Philippines where the dealer there took on some initiatives on installing a different firmware for the Geely Coolray for it to support various features like the Apple CarPlay, but I don't think this will happen anytime soon where I'm from
So It's up to us to find workarounds for this mess.
So here are my findings:
Geely calls this software the GKUI.
The Chinese version of the car is called the Xingyue.
The car won't run any scripts or programs through the USB port at all unless you get into developer mode.
Found a couple of Russian threads like this one, for example, states that they have already modded/sideloaded APK into the Head Unit but through removing the external interior decor around the screen and then the screen itself to reach the Head Unit.
There's no further instruction from this Russian forum since all posts there seem to indirectly market a mod shop there, with no intentions of sharing this "trade secret" I presume. So on top of the money you paid for this car with a half-as*ed infotainment system, other wanna-be entrepreneurs want to milk you for your hard-earned cash, this situation is happening where I'm from too.
All of these mod shops claim that the only way to go into dev mode and have full control is to remove the head unit itself, This doesn't make sense of course since you have direct access to the head unit with 3 channels (as of my knowledge):
The USB port
Bluetooth
WIFI
Geely Okavango's Method of getting into Dev Mode is available here on this site.
The Geely Coolray or Binyue can be sideloaded as well, instructions are here.
There are some "Magic" Products on Amazon that claim that they can add Apple CarPlay & Android Auto by plugging their USB stick into "any car that has an infotainment screen".
2023 Findings/Hints
Upon Venturing the Esoteric Chinese Social Websites (Not Joking check out Baidu). I’ve gained more insights on:
- New method of APK Delivery: DNS Spoofing
Basically DNS spoof your HU into thinking you’re some server and it will download and install APKs for you. I’m not sure how since Google Translate doesn’t translate Chinese very well.
- Some secret menu that has options written in Chinese. You’ll need to input some codes that sound like they’re out of a SPY film though (for real it’s like CIA level stuff lol), and there’s another password inside this hidden password protected area! What a cluster!
- Me being me and adding the knowledge from said sites made me accidentally stumble across another hidden menu!!! -_-
- Disassembling the HU is NOT necessary!! Some People faced lots of issues after they did, noise and squeaking due to air gaps and miss handling. No one will assemble the HU better than the manufacturer!!
I’m willing to share details and resources with anyone who’s skilled enough to collab and has Linux skills, Android Reverse Engineering, and Penetration Testing DM or IM me for it. I’m not interested in business I just wanna unlock the infotainment system so my lovely wife can enjoy her new car.
I will try to update this thread with any information of value whenever I can. I hope you will do the same.
Thanks @YR3 ! Quite comprehensive research and post. You summarized what I've found out and much more.
I have also tried many ways to load an apk on my Tugella 2023, with no avail. Will post any decent info I found on the ATLAS OS sideload/dev mode
Nice research bro. I have the same story exactly with the difference of azkarra instead of tugella. I hope if someone can guide us to enter the developer mode

Hey... Thanks for the summary, as others have posted I have also reached a brick wall with this.. I was referred to the Russian Telegram group where I asked if anyone could help in my area. (I am in Saudi Arabia - Riyadh) But instead of a useful reply I was blocked.. There is a ton of info in the telegram group about GMC - Geely Mod Custom (https://gmcust.su/) which I assume is the name they give there custom firmware, but all info is in Russian. {Mod edit: Link removed! Oswald Boelcke, Senior Moderator}.. Joined up to this forum (XDA) in the hope that something comes up. I have already ordered the Carlink dongle even though I haven't actually yet bought the car, in the hope that there must be a way to get this to work. A few colleagues in my company (A new car company in Saudi believe it or not) have also got the Tugella and they all point this as the biggest disappointment. I do have some contacts within GEELY Auto in China, as I was working in the auto industry there before recently moving to Saudi, so I hope perhaps there are some resources from China I can leverage. I will probably switch search engines to Baidu (Google equivalent in China) to see if there are any hints from the PRC.. Will keep you posted here.

Excellent… look forward to the receiving the telegram group to take this further. I think this news will make a lot of people happy in my company as I think we have around 6-7 Tugella owners all complaining about the lack of appleCarplay or Android Auto..

I'm also facing the same issue. I have the azkarra (same tugella software) and I live in Jordan. contacted the telegram groups mentioned above. they asked me to ship my informant screen to saudi arabia to do it which is obviously not a suitable solution. So, if any one got any idea how to do it (im a tech guy) please share it. What really is blocking me is that there is no way to push an apk through adb or any other way to the system. no known way on how to enter the engineering mode.

Hi skmd.
The only way to enter engineering/developer mode is by removing the HU. You can't reach it from inside the car. You can find a detailed step by step video of how to remove the HU, you can give it a try if you're tech savvy.

Access Google Drive with a Google account (for personal use) or Google Workspace account (for business use).

No it doesn't. But it's a start. You can't program it from inside the car. It has to be removed first. I couldn't find any videos on how to program it, the people that know how to are charging money for that service.

I’ve already ventured unto the Chinese Seas of forums and weird social sites Brother. Baidu and QQ chat became my most used apps lol.
I’ve gained more insights to be honest but this journey changes you man…
I saw someone like me who was looking for a solution to free his infotainment system about 3 years ago, he even got into trouble with the Russkies and pointed them out for “Withholding Knowledge” and that this behavior is “Why we will never develop as humans” and they blocked him. He was from Saudi Arabia like you.
Fast forward today the guy got his own OTA Server!!! And he’s selling the mod in your country double the price the Comrades are offerin
He even partnered up with them! they collab on developments and such (probably to figure out more ways to mislead people from unlocking the system ).
I give you my best pal, and may the search be with you
Hello, registered to share my insights so far.
A) The Chinese DNS version of the jailbreak is only applicable if your car has an App Market, which isn't the case for me.
B) There seems to be a way to mod the head unit using a software called Smart Phone Flash Tool. I'm not firm on this info but I think the Head Unit is of the MT6735 type, it looks like the software is able to flash a BIN file that contains the required mods. I'm uncertain of how to manipulate/modify the BIN file, or how to connect the head unit to the SP Flash Tool software (probably a connector/dongle of some sort is needed).
Again, I am completely basing my information on rough research through Chinese forums and video-sharing websites.
My next step/approach is to probably: A) Try to find a dongle to connect my PC to the head unit, B) backup the existing firmware to a BIN file, and C) try to figure out how to modify the bin file to include specific apk/software.
Would appreciate your thoughts, tho. I'm not seasoned nor experienced but I love to explore ;-)
Hello everyone, here is how to enter engineering mode for Tugella, however it is in chinese and if anyone knows how to continue from here let us know please.
The code should be entered in the phone menu

Example if date and time is

so the code should be

Hope that helps

I’m aware of this but apparently it’s just a utility shortcut/dashboard menu for the developers or the maintainers to quickly export logs and backup files and quickly install updates with USBs.
But to do that.. you have to input another password inside this password protected area.
Plus I don’t have a backup of this OS image, so If I’d brute force the pin and install another one and I’d be stuck with it and wont have a failsafe.
And this doesn’t let you access the engineering mode directly so please check your info before copy pasting and stop misleading people.

Im aware of those dongles. They are not magical. Those can convert wired carplay /AA to wireless one. However, our cars lack even the wired carplay. You can use those dongles once you successfully install the carplay / AA on your screen
