I have a Navigation bar on Fire HD 8 2020 version after the 7.3.2.3 update but im not crazy about it
I have it set to run Nova launcher when i do LONG press of the home button
its a pain to have to hold the finger down to go back to the Nova launcher scree.
But i am looking for one that has the standard 3 buttons( BACK ,HOME ,RECENT ) at the bottom- covering up the FIRE navbar

BUT to set the HOME to launch an app but short press ( NOT LONG)
I only am finding ones with Long press to run an app.
IS there any with a short press /click to launch an app?
Hello,
I'm sorry if your problem is solved but I have found a solution that has been working for quite some time. There is an app called simple control that is dark blue. It gives you another navbar that does not add anything to the screen. Here is what I do:
1. Open the app and set the home button to the launcher. For me I use nova.
2. Adjust the size and duration of the nav bar. For me, I use the gesture "swipe up" for the new nav bar to show.
This is the only method that seems to work and is FREE. There have been some "glitches" where the screen goes black for a few seconds after pressing the new home button but then refreshes to the launcher. But for the most part, everything works fine. If you are confused, I could upload a video of the whole process.
Have a great day

Hello,
I'm sorry, I have another solution that could work; only if you have a fire toolbox. There is a custom nav bar feature that downloads an app called automate that will create a code that will make the home button on the fire tablet open the launcher normally. Apparently, this function will not go away after a reboot and should remain "permanent". Both methods that I shared with you should not go away.
Thank you.

This is not my app, but it's a great find and I just thought I would share
Screen Off and Lock
Let's you lock the screen (turn it off) via a long press of the search button. Although there is NO widget, the app icon can be placed onto the home screen or a dock and essentially does the same exact thing.
So far it's working wonders for me, and is an awesome combination with Track Pad Wake.
If you like the app be sure to give it 5 stars and if your feeling generous buy the donate version. Links are provided below if your interested
NOTE: **Before you can UNINSTALL this app, please go to "Setting > Location and Security > Select device administrators" and then uncheck "Screen Off and Lock"**

Sounds good! Will try it out...
Like the voice commands more than something like this. Can't have another program taking over my long press on the search button. Plus a long press takes as much time as just hitting the power button on top.

I've been using this app for a few months now, and I have to say it's a great compliment to the trackpad. No longer do I have to rely solely on the power button to lock the phone. I actually configured the clock portion of Beautiful Widgets to run this screen lock application, so I don't have to have another shortcut on my home screen. It's simply hidden within the BW clock.
PS - Shouldn't this thread be in the apps/themes section?

For HTC One with firmware 4.2.2 or above, there is a very handy multi-control panel with can allow users enable and disable many features like Wifi, Data, Auto-rotation etc.

However, the stupid Google UI design has made it very slow and complicated to launch the panel with 2 fingers simultaneously or swipe the notification bar down first and press the button to launch Control Panel.
Finally, I figured out a way to launch the Multi-control Panel instantly using one finer
It does NOT require root.
Here are the steps:
1. Download two apps at Google Play: "Nova Launcher" and "Swiping Home Button"
(The second app is a paid app, so you know it...)
2. Launch "Swiping Home Button and click "Binding"
3. You can customize your gesture here and personally I prefer to launch Control Panel by swiping up right (the one with Chinese word)
4. Click on the gesture you like and assign a shortcut to it. We are going to choose "App shortcut" here.
5. Choose "Nova Launcher"
6. Finally, choose "Extended Quick Settings"
You are DONE ! Enjoy the Multi-Control Panel instantly with one finger !

Hey Mate,
Does it mean that Nova Launcher has to be running at the background all times?
I really not sure. But I don't recognize any negative effect in terms of the phone's performance caused by this trick.

Yes. Also, Nova Launcher has gestures as well so I don't get the use of this.

Well, if you use this, then you can still use the Sense Launcher!

Hi there,
so I've been loving my lg g2 since the very beginning and I came to the point that I wanted to use the full big screen and turn my softkeys into GESTURES.
what I did: I rooted my lg g2, installed xposed framework with the G2 module to remove the softkeys. You can also do it with GMD hide softkeys app but the g2 module also gives cool settings for the softkeys (change icons,...).
Then I installed All-in-one gestures. With that app you can set gestures for the menu-, back- and homebutton. (and shortcuts or apps to open) You can also do this with the GMD gestures app but it's a more advanced app than the All-in-one gestures app. So for example my backbutton is now a swipe from the bottom of my screen. And I must I like using back like that. it's an easy gesture for you thumb.
I also installed nova launcher to automatically hide the notification bar.
another tip... with the xposed framework you can download the APP SETTINGS module. with this you can set the dpi PER APP!! I like a dpi of 360. below that it's starting to be very tiny letters I think. With APP SETTINGS you can also force to hide the notification bar PER APP. Gives a real big screen as a result!!!
Hope you like my tip!
grts,
Lionel!!
Try Ultimate Dynamic Navbar. More settings and customisations. Blows away all others imo.
I had the same idea.
But it doesn't work out.
1) Sometimes GMD gestures stop working (after turning on display or after rebooting when there sometimes comes a "device not detected" error) and if you don`t have the possibility to swipe up a nav bar then you are in trouble. Bad idea to rely completely on GMD.
2) On my N7 (2013) i can set (via GMD autohide softkeys) that in every app there is the old 3-dot menu button to compensate for the lack of the nav bar menu button. This is somehow not possible on the G2.
For stress-free operation, it's better to make nav bar just as small as possible (say, 50% height) and leave it on.
On phones I prefer much more Pie, I just think it's much faster than gestures.

I rather use GMD hide soft keys. All the buttons are a simple swype away ...

also I to use the 360 dpi, but the trick is to use -- 361 -- because then your apps don't switch into tablet ui. 361 is the sweet spot.
Surprisingly enough I could not find this issue when using the search function. (maybe it is my search capabilities )
Just started using my S5 last week. Now when I touch the home button I get the message to use touchwiz-start.
When I press always (picture says "altijd") it looks like it does not safe this default.

It works for an hour or so, and then it is reset so I get this message again when I press the home button.
Searching for this it looks like a lot of people have this issue, but I do not see a working resolution.

Give this a try
Settings > Applications > Application Manager scroll across the screen to All, then scroll down to Touchwiz, you will see Touchwiz Home Easy and Touchwiz Home, check in both apps and if the options are not grayed out tap clear Cache and Clear Defaults, don’t clear Data as that will wipe home screen shortcuts and set up.
Press the back button to get to your Settings > Application screen and tap Default Applications then tap Home and Select Touchwiz Home, once selected press the back button twice to get to the Settings > Application screen then press and hold the Power button and select Restart.
If its cleared all the default data and reset it then your phone should boot into the default Touchwiz home screen, this should work, if it doesn’t then you have an app or something that is causing it so look at what you have updated or installed recently.

Well actually this triggered me to analyse some recent updates I did, and then I saw one app where somebody reported that it was trying to install itself as a touchwizz app. I deinstalled it et voila, problem solved.
I notified the creator of the app that the recent update he delivered is causing this problem.
So thanks for your input, it triggered me to look a bit deeper into the installed apps and solve this problem.

The awkward position of the power button makes me miss the sleep gestures in xposed framework when I would just remap google now(don't use anyway) to sleep so I could just swipe up from home to sleep the phone to return to the pocket... Thing is I'm on Verizon and don't have root. So does anybody know of a way that something like this could be done without root? I looked all through settings and googled it but have not found anything.
Thanks

I'm using the app One Hand Operation + from the Samsung store. I have it set up so I can swipe in from the left edge to turn off the screen, even if I'm in an app. Custom launchers like Nova can also let you swipe to turn off the screen. I think there are also ways to map the Bixby button to turn off the screen as well.

Am also using one hand operations and assigned a gesture to screen off
....You can also use this "Softkey Edge"... [emoji6]

You can buy Nova Launcher Prime and use double tap to put the phone to sleep. Otherwise you can simply remap the bixby button to be your power button and then you will have it closer.
Only thing is with Nova the double tap will only work if the phone is unlock, otherwise if you don't unlock it and you are still in the lockscreen you will need to press the power button.
Thanks for all of the feedback, I'm going to download One Hand Operation +. My only question about remapping the bixby button is doesnt that require root access?? I looked all over with google to see if it could be done without root and I couldn't find a way. I played around with the bixby settings to get it to run a command to sleep the phone too but that didn't work for me...

I buy nova prime. The problem is that Nova double tap to sleep is not compatible with face recognition, it awakes the phone inmediatly after turn off
