I think I may have made a mistake, but was wondering if anyone else has / has not had a similar experience.
I got my Touch HD a couple of weeks ago, and although I was completely knocked out with its amazingness ( new word, patented by me! ), something bothered me about the amount of pressure I was having to use, particularly in the centre of the screen when touching.
I know there have been tweaks and hacks posted and the pressure required on the touchscreen is variable, so I fiddled and tweaked and carried on. It was only after I started using FingerKeyboard2 (which also warrants "amazingness" status.) that I noticed that when holding keys down and releasing for special characters and numbers, my HD was registering a second press upon release. So when holding for number "5" I got a letter "t" too when I released. This really annoyed me.
I've had a look from a varry shallow angle at the screen, with the device turned off and pressed in the middle and compared to the edges, and it seems as though the digitizer "domes" over the screen. There's a large void in the middle that's not present at the edges, which means that to register touches in the middle, I have to press the digitizer against the screen. I think this is causing the double presses, and having to apply extra pressure in the middle.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've taken it to CPW today and they've sent off for a replacement, which will arrive on Monday
Has anyone else noticed this, is it normal and I've sent a perfectly good Touch HD away? Have a look for me please, and spare an old(ish) man his sanity!
I can only speak for myself but, specially after tweaking, the hd screen is VERY sensible to touch, no need for hard presses at all. I think you actually had a faulty machine...
My touch screen is very good, shame the wifi has died on it and it's doing strange things. Mine will be back to CPW as well
My touchscreen works very well, without tweaking I think it does the job and recognizes my presses easily and accurately. However, my problem is that I can see the touch sensors even when the screen is turned on... I see small green-coloured dots, in a regular grid, specially when I have a white background. Annoying, but I think I can live with it... Better than send it to the service and wait a long time, with the risk of getting a new screen which may have dead pixels (I don't have any now).
Thanks for your replies everyone, makes me feel better about not having my Touch HD over the weekend. I pick up my replacement tomorrow and I think I'm suffering from withdrawal already.
i have applied the de-sensitive cab but when i use my finger to press down and drag selections, i can never be precise .. the screen starts to "shiver" around like Jack from the Titanic ...
hmmm is there any tweak to reduce this?
BTW, do i need to align the screen regularly?

I too have the same problem. I have read the other exhaustive thread on screen problems but couldn't come to a conclusion. Is this a software issue or hardware fault?
Do you mean the built in tactile feedback vibration where the screen buzzes to let you know it's been touched?
Settings/Personalise/Vibration/and then uncheck the box
Try the screen sensitivity reducing tips, or better still use BSBtweaks, it has a toggle to reduce sensitivity that works.
also, i found being too gentle with my fingertip makes it juddery. a firm press with the pad of teh finger works better for me than the tip.
I align my screen after any hard reset / rom flash.
i had this issue too, it appeared suddenly a few days after i upgraded the radio on my previous rom. with the current combination everything is in place now.
I would say it is a hardware fault. My first HD2 was perfect with no screen sensitivity issues. Unfortunately, it was accidentally damagaed and I had to replace it. The replacement unit did suffer from the sensitivity issue and although the sensitivity fix improved things substancially, it it still wasn't anywhere near as good as my original unit. So it went back to the store and they game me a replacement which I am happy to say doesn't have the sensitivity issue and is a joy to use again.
The new unit does however have an uneven backlight but I'll probably live with that as it's the lesser of two evils!

Are you guys using a screen protector?
I used to have perfect screen behaviour. Recently, I saw the multitude of cheap 3 for $x screen protectors, and tested about 8 different brands.
Some were pure crap, didn't prevent fingerprints or oil...
The mirror ones and some clear ones killed sensitivity!!! Made my touches jump all over, my presses inaccurate.
Some matt screen protectors were too thin and were absolutely useless (and easy to scratch).
Only a few were good enough not to cause a problem.
Can only suggest you try remove the screen protector if you encounter the same issue.

i was trying out the iphone, i noticed
iphone screen is matte.. no stickiness if sweat and swipe is smooth..
hd2 glossy if you sweat, you get friction... swipe depends on friction
if i were to put a matte screen protector, maybe it helps? anyone knows about this?
IPhone 3gs and HTC Hero both have an oleophobic coated screen which greatly reduces fingerprints and smudges. HD2 does not. Don't know why HTC don't use this tech on all of their capacitve screens.

could it be our software compensation for errors is screwed? u know as in the software is predicting the center of the finger wrongly

all people i know has this issue i think it is software htc is not a fool company to release all devices defected
and i wonder why they take so long to fix it..
could anyone share any experiences for a good working stylus for the hd2?
this phone is stupendous but alas i have to use it for work and the software we use requires very tiny touches and signature signing.
have tried the ones on e-bay (rubber topped pencil turned upside down)
which is crap...have now tried the htc and dagi ones with the tiny red dot and they are just not cutting it.
has anyone done any homemade experiments or come across a moe "pointy" stylus

Unfortunately you are all too correct!
With the glass screen!
Put a protector on it and they work!
I have been using the dagi long slim one and it works ok, I do have a screen protector on though so maybe this helps... makes selecting text and writing Chinese characters much easier (I use my hd2 to study/translate Chinese so being able to use a stylus to do this is pretty great)... its a bit fiddly to start with as you need to learn how to use it properly, but once you get used to it everything is ok...
Most of the styli are crap, I need something with more of a point, but that's probably not possible. Still waiting for some sort of battery powered pen that offers pin point precision, a guy can dream right...
i'll try to put a screen protector on as suggested and try...
my problem is it's no good mastering the dagi myself as i have to get customers signatures and most people simply can't use it...
it deffo needs something more pointy.
i'm sure i read somewhere on the forum about a guy who was filing something to a point till it stopped working???

I have ordered the official htc stylus 400.
arrives in 2 weeks and i'll post comments.
read a review after ordering that it actually scratches the screen!
I guess i should have waited for the 400/2 version!

I've tried using my DS stylus but that doesnt work, seems like it was made for bigger objects to come in contact with the screen (ie fingers).

It`s not about the size of objects. HD2 has capacitive screen.
"A capacitive touchscreen panel consists of an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide (ITO).[2][3] As the human body is also a conductor, touching the surface of the screen results in a distortion of the body's electrostatic field, measurable as a change in capacitance. Different technologies may be used to determine the location of the touch. Got the dagi (10 euro from Hong Kong). I am not amused... Touching the screen with the complete tip flat on the screen is annoying to get used to. Often only the side of the tip touches the screen.
When the tip is flat on the screen (which it should) it just does not feel OK. Not "delicate".
Which the screen responsiveness lowered and the tap-reaction time increased (which I did just to be able to get some decent fingertyping results) the dagi does not function adequate. I have to aim more accurate then with my fingers and have to press the dagi on the screen.
Putting the screensettings to default (which I did not try yet) reinstates all the drawbacks in the other functionalities.
I've had my Nexus 4 for a couple years I believe now, and overall it's been a nice device. I've had occasional issues now and then with software (Camera not available message, random powerdowns) but no hardware issues. A couple weeks ago, part of my display stopped responding. The LCD itself shows everything, there's no bars, no visible cracks in the screen. but the left hand side of the screen, I'd estimate about 1/5 the screen in width, no longer responded to touch. The far far left edge, along the very edge of the display, registered, and on the other side of that 1/5 worked fine. The area that was giving me issues was right about where the 'a' key on the keyboard is in portrait mode -- the only location I could press to get an 'a' registered an 's' as well.
This is all being tested with the developers Show Screen Touches and Show Pointer Information turned on.
Then, the end of this past week, it got worse. The entire left half of the display still shows fine, but almost never responds to touches -- maybe 1 in 100 times it will. Thankfully, I was able to get in one of those times and disable my screen lock. It seems to be able to register as far left as an x value ~418. This means the back button in portrait mode, for example, no longer works. To make me even more confused, it seems to register phantom presses. The device can be lying, powered on on my desk, no touching it, and the display starts showing screen touches -- the most common one I see is right about where the word Google is in portrait on the stock main screen. These will continue indefinitely.
All this to say, I suspect my digitizer has had a mechanical failure. Does that seem a reasonable conclusion to you? I like the four inch form factor of the device, and with most new smartphones getting larger and larger, I'm shying away from changing to another device. I've looked briefly at replacing the digitizer -- it seems you can purchase either the digitizer alone or with the LCD, and that when replacing just the digitizer it's easy to accidentally create problems with the existing LCD. Is that true?
Also, the part about having to use a hair dryer to pull the components apart makes me a little nervous. Screws and cables I can handle, but a hair dryer?

I would say it's most likely a hardware problem with the digitizer. The lcd/digitizer assembly is glued together so it's very difficult to separate the two without damaging the lcd.
Unless you have the tools to separate them properly, it's alot less headache to get the entire assembly already glued together.
Hello,
i have Dasaita PX6 7" without hardware buttons and some time ago the touchscreen started to do strange things like i'm driving and i hear the media makes *bop* sound as if i've touched the power touch-button and the screen goes off or it launches a program as if i've touched the screen over where it's icon is.
Now it seems it stopped doing all this but a portion of the screen is just not working, not responding to touch.
The pic of the unit is from the web but mine is the same. I did the color rectangular areas tho to show and say - the green area is responding to touch, the red area is not responding
I write for over a week to Dasaita on Aliexpress where i bought the unit for solution or for new screen - they just read, no answer. I also write to their FB page - no answer.
Because the portion of screen which is not active i can't drag and drop icons from other screens to main screen - i have mouse, but i cant select and drag. Any suggestions?
And please tell me if i can fix this touchscreen (maybe it delaminated somewhere and its not making contact) or where i can get new (because of high chance to ruin this when trying to fix it).

Have you ever recalibrated the touch screen?
I don´t know how it works on yours, but for a couple of units it works like all 5 fingers touch at the same time and hold it until you get a marker on the upper left screen.
Touch it as exact as possible and do that for all corners as you get the touch point visible.
For the buttons on the left side you should have a setup in the settings menu.
Hi, i watched videos about the 5 fingers touch but it doesnt activate on mine.
I entered the factory menu /with the 126 password/ where are similar functions and tried them several times just to be sure - no change.
The buttons on the left side are part of the touchscreen even tho they are on the black stripe, its jsut painted, it dosn't matter.

In this case you should get in contact with Dasaita and/or the seller.
May be there is an issue with the controller or firmware.
