Since there is no objective way to measure speaker sound quality, I cannot tell for sure but, it kin of feels that the speaker quality is worse with the official LineageOS ROM when compared to the official Samsung ROM. I have turned off the equaliser and the Dolby Atmos in the settings.
Does anyone else who use LineageOS ROM feel the same thing, or am I wrong?
Yes. But recent version has improved it. Still not bassy and rich sounding tho.

That's a shame. Does speakers need a proprietary driver? I wonder what is causing this.
After installing the latest (September) update, I could not feel any sound improvement. So, I reverted the tablet to the stock ROM today. After the initial setup is done, I immediately played the same song that I had played on LineageOS, and yes, it sounded much better.
I had installed LineageOS because it was version 12.1 (12 enhanced for tablet, as far as I know) and Samsung stopped the official ROM at 11. But frankly, I could not find any useful tablet features in 12.1. I at least expected a volume slider (like the one on iPad), but no. The only thing that was remotely useful was double-tap status bar to turn the screen off, but that was LineageOS's feature, not Android 12.1's. Android 11 is still very useable, so I guess I am just going to use the stock ROM. I use tablets mostly for media consumption so bad speaker sound was just not bearable.
Let this be warning to future people who want to install LineageOS. Do not install it unless you don't use internal speakers.
While I never used stock ROM, I noticed some speaker peculiarities while watching youtubes (on NewPipe). I tried to set my volume at a considerate level, not blaring which could annoy others nearby but loud enough to hear. When a speaker started talking in a low voice it inexplicably became completely inaudible. I could not understand what they were saying at all. Then it would get normal or too loud when the speaker spoke up. I had to turn the volume at annoying and unacceptable levels just to hear what was being said.
I tested the videos on another device with the same version of NewPipe and it was not an issue.
DOes anyone with cRdroid rom have this issue? I don't use it much for videos/audio so I don't care too much but reading this thread it seems to be an issue
If you want equalizer you need
PowerAmp Equalizer
It does all multimedia apps but games not yet.

A bit off topic, but I don't think Google has implemented anything particularly useful in Android in a few major versions.

I have been using crDroid 8.10 and I do notice the volume fluctuates, someone in a post said he thought it was magisk 25. I'm not sure yet I'm still looking into it.

Although this is my first post/contribution to the forums, I've been a long time visitor and absolutely love this community, especially the effort that goes into not only providing exceptional ROMs, but the support thereafter. In short, this community, without the slightest exaggeration, is the reason I stepped into the Android world.
That said, I've frequently come across the issue/concern of low sound, be it via headset, in call, speaker, etc. I've tried everything suggested online particularly regarding the X10, to no avail. So to anyone still struggling with an issue with sound, try the following:
Enable the PowerAMP "tone" setting and adjust the preamp to max. Leave the equalizer off as its unneeded. Then, using DSPManager (assuming you have flashed the zip file; search xda if you need it), adjust the EQ settings for whichever configuration you are after. With regards to the headphone configuration, the newly applied settings will now superimpose with the PowerAMP settings, and the end result is a significant sound improvement. For the other two configurations, tune the EQ to your liking and you should achieve a similar result.
Being that both PowerAMP and DSPManager can be installed on just about any ROM without issues, the above method should work for most, if not all custom ROMS's. Nonetheless, I'm currently running rendeiro's scamble, and after applying the above settings on my new Superlux closed cans, I kid you not, they really do sound studio quality! I hope this helps someone, as I wasn't able to come across a clear cut solution anywhere, and always ran into problems or no noticeable improvement with all other suggestions.
Would anyone happen to know what the latest version of DSPManager is that can be easily flashed via recovery on the X10? If a link to the relevant thread/file can be provided, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Awesome. I damaged my Atrix and I'm using an old Xperia X10 again so I'll give this a try and report back.
The primary reason why I left is because the damn speaker volume is too low and half a dozen exchanges later I had no luck. Just abandoned the phone. This would be awesome, especially considering now that we have custom ROMs. I'm blown away by some of the new ROMs. When I left, custom ROMs were just in their infancy. THIS is why I bought an Xperia X10. Just happened a year too late lol
Hi,
I'm experiencing many sound problems on my U8800Pro. Almost every ROM has it's own specific sound problems, for example MIUIv5 or CM10 have a lot of junk noise (which I cant identify, it just plays horrible) when playing from the back speaker. Some ROM's (i think shendu) are playing only one channel (mono) from the back speaker (which, for example, makes "Riders on the storm" or some Beattles unlistenable) but the quality is very good.
The only ROM I've come across, which makes a really good sound is ICEdroidV1 (because it's a modified stock rom)(and Stock, of course).
Is there a way how to "backport" "drivers" or some libs in order to resolve these issues across every ROM?
Call Sound and Mic sound are another story. On some ROM's, people can hear me good but I hear them really poor (some CM10)(which makes the phone unusable for example in bar or on the bus), on the ICEdroidV1 I can hear beatifully but in order to be heard, I have to have the phone really tightly to my face (I think that the second microphone is not working, but not sure).
I know these are really ROM specific issues, but do we have some universal fix for these issues?
It's really one of those issues which makes me hate this phone. (And, of course, the stock roms are slow and buggy). It makes me even think about buying a different phone but also, as a longtime linux user, hurts my head, because the hardware of the phone is pretty good and it fits all my needs --- it's the software that's putting me off.
If needed (but I think everyone knows what I'm talking about) I can record the sound and upload it here.
Thanks
I noticed that after taking the OTA update to MHC19I that the bluetooth volume of a bluetooth audio device is no longer coupled to the android system's media volume.
The volumes used to be decoupled with Android 6.0. When 6.0.1 rolled out, they coupled the volumes. Now they are decoupled again. I'm wondering why they keep going back and forth on these design choices.
Anyway I was wondering if it was just a weird installation glitch with my 6P, or if others are indeed noticing the same behavior on their phones. Thanks for your feedback, guys.
There is no 6.1
I'm sure OP meant 6.0.1.
Same issue on my LG HBS-810.

I meant 6.0.1. I edited my original post to reflect this.

I'm guessing it's because the coupliing has been problematic. For me, I can't set the volume low enough for a lot of media sources when using Bluetooth headphones. I've been using a buggy equalizer app to bring down the volumes, but I'm happy to hear about the de-coupling. I hope they figure out a better way to do the coupling eventually.

I just updated my 6P and the Bluetooth volume is still coupled to my headset volume. Darn.
I'm using powerbeats 2 bluetooth and they are still coupled. I'm running DU test build with the new vendor. Is there something I need to switch off?
I noticed this yesterday as well. Couldn't figure out why volume changes on my Jaybirds X2 wasn't adjusting the volume on my device. On the one hand, I prefer it as I just boost device volume to max and use the headphones to adjust listening volume. But, on the other, I wish they would stop going back and forth.

I'm actually using the same exact headphones that I'm experiencing this behavior with. Maybe it's just the Jaybird X2 that have this problem with the new update. I haven't had the chance to test this theory with any other bluetooth device, though.

Yeah, I liked it better when the volumes were synced up so it was easy to know what the volume was. But, like some have mentioned higher in the thread, they weren't able to get the volume low enough when the volumes were synced up. Man, this stuff never happens with iPhones. And no, not mine...but my wife has one! Android all the way since inception. But still, it's a tad irksome.
They've been going back and forth with this for years. TBH it's really frustrating. They did the same change when the Nexus 5 came out after the initial build the Nexus 5 shipped with at launch.
Ok what in the actual f*** has happened to Dolby Atmos after this update B02, they fixed the EQ, well fixed it to work as well is it didn't work before anyway, so that's something.
But the sound quality....Omg, it sound like it playing out of an old tin can now, all the tone has gone, there is no bass, it just sounds awful. It's damn loud I'll give it that, but sound with Atmos off is better by a mile now.
Someone please tell me I'm missing something.
Mike
Are the sound with headphones and dolby off better or worse than on B01?
I've not tried with headphones yet, but the external speakers are crap now, louder but quality is nothing like it was.
Unless this is all my imagination, but i don't think so.
Same boat. Atmos works from Spotify, but that's it.

Well Atmos makes a difference when I turn it of and on, but it sounds like garbage.
Lets pause for a moment to take on board what's actually been going on, so we went from MM to Nougat, but the only way to upgrade that was by downloading the update to SD, then Nougat came along, the promised raw mode was missing, daydream was missing (one of the big sells for this phone) Now moving onto 7.1.1 Google play not working, I mean how is it even possible to release an update with something this fundamental not working?
Dolby Atmos, literally the entire phones audio reputation resting on this feature NOT WORKING with the EQ, and now the lastest B2 update with broken Atmos once again!!
How is it even possible for a release to be made with such massive floors, is it really possible they don't even try these features out on the phone model before release, because it's literally the only conclusion I can come to.
I'm quite blown away by how ZTE can miss things as large as these, what's next, touchscreen not working? I think anything is possible now...
Mike
When I first got the V20, one of the things I was always impressed by was the speaker. It was loud, clear, and it seemed like LG had implemented some sort of volume compression/limiting to keep things clear without clipping or distortion. I rooted the phone about six months ago, finally, and have tried a few custom ROMs. Some amazing work done by the people here, but it seems that the speaker no longer sounds anywhere near as good, and it often crackles and distorts when playing anything just slightly above hearing level. I reflashed the h918 stock mod and all was taken care of, but I don't wanna be stuck with a stock ROM and lose the versatility being rooted brings. Another thing I noticed was that when I send audio messages on Facebook Messenger, they don't record nearly as loud and clear as they do with the stock ROM.
I'm currently using LOS16 with Gamma Kernel (SS).
I was wondering if anyone could maybe figure out what LG did with their speaker (and possibly mic) settings and find a way to implement them somehow with a mod? I'm not sure if this can be done via XML or anything like that. I just hate how all my custom ringtones sound now and having YouTube, my music player, and anything crackle has just taken my enjoyment of these ROMs a notch. Maybe even come up with some similar settings via Viper4Android using the compression tool?
Thanks a lot of any help!
