Hi,
Since I have a Samsung Galaxy J5 that is getting slower and slower each year, I am thinking of flashing the device to a custom ROM if available for my smartphone model. But I have a few questions about how these customs ROMs work.
For example, my Galaxy J5 is stuck on Android 6.0.1 which means I won't be getting the latest versions of apps (correct me if I am wrong). Also, there is the security issue as I won't be receiving neither OS version updates or security patches.
Does using a custom ROM fix all of these problems? How about security? Is it safer to use a custom ROM compared to an outdated original ROM?
Thanks in advance!

hello everyone
I got a s4 i9505. its on android 4.3
I want to install custom roms on it (marshmallow, s6 ports).
before doing so, should I update it to most recent rom or 4.4 atleast and then custom roms or directly custom roms
because 4.3 bootloader might create issue with 5.0/6.0 roms
and I heard samsung gave more memory available to users in newer updates but you need new pit file, do I need to load that separately or it will be installed automatically with any 5.0 rom
its total space is 9.27gb
Update to Android 5.x if planning on using an Android 6 ROM. That space expansion you're thinking of only works with the I9500, so put that out of your mind.
Hi guys! I'm searching android 6.1 ROM for my Galaxy Core Prime [SM-G361F]. You know where I can find it?
Thanks.
Nope. At the moment, there's no Marshmallow ROM (custom or official) for G361F.
Yeah we have to wait.
Did someone start to make them already?
This would be great, Marshmallow looks better than the cancerous (my opinion) Lollipop firmware, but I think that actually no developer want to really work on this model. Bringing root and a recovery was the minimum, then to go further you can install XPosed for custom builds but creating custom or adapting stock ROMs? Nah.
Good day,
recently I learned that Motorola/Lenovo stopped to deliver security updates for my Motog G4 (without plus) 2016 phone. Since I dont want to throw away a smartphone which is just two and a half years old, the only option seems to be a custom ROM.
Does anyone know a stable, supported, trouble-free, and easy to install custom rom for this phone? I dont mind the android version, I just want to receive the security patches. LineageOS, the only custom ROM I used in the past for other phones, does not support this device any more (it was called "athene" there).
Thanks for any help,
Gregor
The forum for Moto G4 Plus seems to have more options for custom roms (you can use g4 plus roms on a g4, they are both athene).
I am now using OMNI rom (android pie). https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-omnirom-moto-g4-plus-t3874452
It is stable, has a similar battery drain as Lineage OS.

Thanks for the reply, I will try OMNI. Is the battery life better or even worse compared to the original firmware? Whats the security patch level on your phone?

The security patch is 5th January 2019.
As for battery life compared to the stock rom I don't know the exact figures sorry (it's been a while since I had stock rom on the phone).
Hi All,
Coming from one plus family. I'm wondering why there is no activities going on in the development thread? No custom roms no kernels so far..?

If you're a flashaholic this is not the phone for you my friend. The Snapdragon variant has a locked bootloader and even though the Exynos variant can be rooted, there hasn't been any significant development in the past 3 years. Most Galaxy users are fine without root.
There is no need of rooting for samsung users these days.. samsung have given most of the fautures which 1 attained through rooting earlier

I'm not worrying about rooting.. what about updates.. if Samsung decided to stop the updates , is it the end of the phone? I have my one plus one device having Android pie custom rom.. I'm worrying about updates not about the features..

It depends if a dev is willing to make such a ROM and continue updating it.
I'm sure we'll see custom roms for the snapdragon variant later this year.
There is one full custom rom and one magisk mods one already available, the others will roll out like a snowball.
It took more time because of finding a new rooting way on s10/+ but now it's good. On s9 they had stock based roms as well as aosp, just be a bit more patient and you will be happy
This phone is guaranteed two major Updates Q and R , probably we'll get custom ROMs and right now sgr ROMs work with some bugs , but I'm fine with no root and Samsung one ui
There are in s10 thread which are compatible with s10 plus
Stock based rom has become painfully slow and unresponsive. I installed resurrection remix pie but camera is buggy (slow or crash).
Any reliable custom rom with stable camera? Even older android versions as long as there are security updates

It depends on user preferences. If you have Exynos variant, I would go for Nemesis Refined Rom 3.x.x. if you have Snapdragon, I recommend Norma N7 Port v26 or Nemesis Note 7 port v3. But choose N4 camera in Aroma installer if you want stable camera.
I have snapdragon thx but stock based roms don't have security updates anymore right?

Norma has security update from 1st September 2017. It's UI that matters. You are getting Dream UX for free, which actually works better and smoother than stock Marshmallow ROM. To be honest, I have never seen Android phone being hacked or something, I don't know why people pay so much attention to security updates.
there is erobot rom
it is the best not 4 rom ever:good:
last update and stable.
