Hey folks!
I'm a hobby photographer, and I'm interested in how capable Sony's latest 20.7 megapixel image sensor actually is.
I've seen Flickr groups for specific devices only and for "Xperia photography" in general but I haven't found one yet that only features all devices with the same (or similar) image sensor.
So I created one
I'd love to see this group flooded with the best of the best photographs taken with phones featuring this 20.7 megapixel image sensor.
So if you have a couple of nice pictures already on Flickr, taken with either the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact or Z2, please share them in this group - it would make my day!
https://www.flickr.com/groups/xperiaphotography
Help me help others, by adding photos to show just how capable Sony's 20.7mp camera really is! :cyclops:
Also, if you have any questions about photography with the latest Sony phones, you could ask me here in this thread or you could even start a discussion on my Flickr group!
I'm not a Pro Photographer (yet) but I can answer quite some questions for people who just start out with photography
[Fun fact: I actually got into photography through cameraphones - starting with the SE K800i followed by the SE Satio]
Hi,
Cool idea for a group in Flickr. I have album on my Flickr account with photos from my Z1 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157641744588983/).
I have photos from Xperia S too, but I have tons more from Z1. This phone is beast! I love it!
I'm experimenting all the time with photography and video. I recorded one advertisement and a couple of sketches for TV. It's awesome.
I'll post more later...

Please post those ads for TV that are recorded with the Z1. I'd love to see those. Please reply with quote.

Here are some of the videos that are already on YouTube.

We didn't had camera available for recording so we used my Z1. I'm losing quality when exporting the final video from Adobe Premiere. The original clips are way better than these on YouTube. But, as far as I'm concerned, nobody here noticed any difference on TV or for the Ad...
I like to experiment with the phone. I'll have to learn the camera man to record properly (since I'm in all of the videos) with the focus, the other is great. Hope you'll like it.
At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Huawei P20 Pro's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Taken using night mode with 5second exposure.
it's good but i'm not blown away like some.
on closer look the images are all very soft

The fact that the photo taken with limited light and shaky hand after gym, I'm quite impressed. But the photo does look like too much post processing involved and on the soft side.
Haven't tried night mode but I took some shots side by side with the Pixel 2 XL this weekend in a restaurant with low light and the Pixel 2 shots were clearly more detailed and brighter.
So far beside low light shoot, I don't really like the over processing photo of p20pro. My old mate 9 photo looks more pleasant to my eye than this...

Just sold my Mate 10 Pro because i was hugely disappointed by the camera, the super aggressive processing just killed every photos.
Was planning to get the P20 Pro but after seeing all the samples...no Huawei just don't get it..
Excellent hw and superb camera app killed by the stupid processing..

Photography is very subjective, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.bsome people like the natural look, some people like the more processed and boosted look. But i must admit, huawei sometimes goes banana with processing.
Went to disneyland and took this at sunset. Amazed.

Really great low light performance in the P20 Pro. I have been getting some great shots after dark.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Honor 8X come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Anyone with kids have any experience with low light/indoor pics of their kids with the 8X? I've got 3 little menaces at home and most of my snaps are usually of them, inside. I need my phone to be able to handle that...
I've got an Honor 8 at the moment and it does quite well. I'm hoping this phone will be better than that. Anyone had any experience with both??
Cheers!
Anyone can own a camera, you simply hand over the cash and you now own it. You see plenty of incompetent photography samples in the myriad "reviews" seen around the internet. A competent photographer can get the best out of even a BASIC, not so amazing camera, as opposed to a completely clueless newcomer, whom you could hand a £10,000 Nikon to, and they'd create the most atrocious images you'd ever seen.
If you're taking "snaps" inside, of your children, it doesn't warrant any discussion really, if you have ANY smartphone and are taking "snaps", NO smartphone camera in existence can even DREAM of matching even the most basic dSLR. I own the Nikon D3400 - an "entry level" dSLR, but even as "entry level", it blows ALL the (many, many) smartphone cameras out of the water, into the stratosphere and up, out into space!
I own the 8X, it's a good camera... for a smartphone... but so what? Next year there'll be yet another "best everrrr" lineup of average to better smartphone cameras... but for now, the 8X is very nice indeed.

This is what I wanted to hear.
I use my D3200 for when I want a decent shot. So if this camera is acceptable then that's all I need. It seems better than the Honor 8 according to gsmarena camera comparison and I get pretty good snaps on that.
How's that huge 6.5" screen though??
Hello Since the new update ia pictures are not vivid I'm very disappointed because I love saturated pictures is there anyway to have vivid pictures again or not?
Photo quality is good compared to my previous Honor 5C and Honor 8.
For its price the camera (and software) is good. Overall quality is like between iphone 6s and 7. Definately workable. However in bad conditions like low light or weird lighting it has trouble to shoot sharp pictures or get its focus right. The night time mode is great for very low light though. Sharpness is definately its weakpoint but its very capable of shooting sharp pictures. I tend to use HDR mode mostly for better sharpness.
Image resolution is relatively high and better than older versions of Honor Phones. You can take out the photos from the printer and you won't really feel see the pixels getting burst or the blurred pic. I would probably give 4.5 out of 5.
The Honor 8X produces fantastic photos with the back and selfie camera.

I've been using the light L16 for a long while. I assume it would work the same. Images on the Pure View may render a bit slow "on device" , since it dosent have to be exported into lights Lumen software. I'll see once mines arrives though.

Yes, with all the sensor data on it does take a while to merge all the image data. The amount of time varies based on the scene and detail.

It's instant surprisingly, their software team has done a excellent job on that part. Even though it uses the SD820 and their custom ASIC together, everything works just fine. I'm sure with the SD845 and the ASIC chip, things would work much better on that device.

I meant it takes a while on the Nokia 9 Pureview. I've had everywhere from about 4 seconds, up to 25ish seconds to process a photo.
As I'm eager to get my hands on this device mainly for the capabilities of the camera, is it possible for some of the lucky early owners to share a few RAW files.
At least two people here have it, and we don't have one real-life sample to check out.
I really can't believe there are no real and meaningful reviews for this phone...
here is a sample

Here's three in a wetransfer link. Too big to post DNGs on here. These have quite a bit of good depth data and were fun to edit. Didn't share my edits in this grouping though.

Thanks man, can I reuse the link and/or unedited exported with LR images on other forums, to shutdown some huawei fans
I'm amazed by the details, it is really good. Could you share some b/w dng's please? Huawei mate 9 with only one bw sensor took amazing shots , so I'm really curious at what the Nokia 9 can do
More dng samples please
Guys, can you please post more dng samples? outdoors for base iso, indoors for high iso? When I developed the dngs posted here, they are all quite great actually, even at iso 1600. That's the flowers shot. The same flower shot in jpg is quite oversharpened and noisy, with ugly artefacts, dark shadows and blown out highlights that are not present in the jpg. The subway shot is iso 1400, basically noise free. The doughnut shot is iso 208 and man, it is absolutely amazing in terms of both detail and noise. I think the bad quality you see in jpgs is simply bad processing by the nokia camera app. I think that this hardware is capable of great photos. Wondering if SNAP camera HDR app would work on this. Thanks!

I will try to add some tomorrow. Did some compare shots with the xz3 and a rx100 vi
https://we.tl/t-N9cRshSrlb
If people are interested I can do a bit more in depth comparison
I think the shadow recovery is amazing, almost no noise increase, and this on a phone.
1st photo supplied by @phunkyp , increased the brightness of the dark background in a raw editor.
But i think the general sharpness isn't the best compared with well lit single sensor photos, what do you think? For example in the samples of @stefanve those details in the trees just look strange somehow. But there is definatly a lot to play with in the editor (2nd photo by him). Yes its a bit much.
Here are a couple of extra test shots. 3 files per scene. DNG, JPG from the default camera app and one from the LR camera. The LR shot should be using only one of the 5 camera's so we can see the difference between one vs 5 camera's
https://we.tl/t-deZimhn8Sz
Personally I don't think that the camera has on point focus (maybe that is why they use very aggressive sharpening in de jpegs) but overall I think it is really good for a phone, lots of detail and light. This is one of the view phones (that I used) that gives me usable photo's the other one being the Lumia 950 XL and the Mate 9 (but only in b&w)
Is Lightroom not capable to get raw from the Nokia cam? That would be interesting to compare, Lightroom single Cam dng vs Lightroom HDR dng vs Nokia 5 cam dng.
No sadly , it is not possible to save the raw data with de LR camera app.
edit wrong post.

Random tries in nightmode/48MP....
Have the phone since yesterday and used a Pixel 4xl before. Will post some comparison here later but till now I would say that for landscape the oppo is superior but for portraits the Pixel is by far better. Skin tones and also the perfection of the bokeh is just amazing. Playing around with gcam produces good results for portraits but still not on par.
Any recommendations for ports and configs for the Find X2 pro?
does gcam work with the Oppo?

Today I made a photo comparison between the oppo find x2 pro and the huawei p30 pro. Daylight and at 21:30. I find it frightening that in many cases the Huawei easily keeps up and sometimes takes better photos. The Oppo often has a red cast in low light. Even the wide angle of the Oppo is not superior, despite the imx586. I can only hope that Oppo will improve the software.

I compared it quite a bit to the P20 Pro, where detail is superior in the oppo most of the time, but also not extraordinarily better. HDR scenes and color reproduction are way better on the Oppo though.
In lowlight or even medium light(shaded forests for example) it casts the whole frame in the most prominent color it sees. You can try this at dusk in front of a TV for example. Nightmode increases this problem quite dramatically. Of note, GCam nightsight doesnt do this, so it definitly is a software thing.
In bright sunny conditions, lensflare is also quite apparent in certain angles. Most of the time you can tilt the phone a few degrees and get rid of it without messing too much with the shot you want to take. For stills this is ok, but in video you get really bad lensflares in sunny conditions for which you cannot correct.
I also contacted Oppo support for some of the things, but they dont answer so far.
Has anyone noticed lense flare or pictures looking like they've been taken behind a screen or window? So disappointed with the camera, considering sending it back.
Oppo is a selfie expert mobile. Obviously, the photo qualify is awesome. But I don't know the radiation to take photos. That's the first thing we have to know. Is it omits many radiations when we take photos or videos? Can any known person please share the details here
Stunning
Best camera iv had on a smart phone!
HDR blows out quite a bit compared to competitors.
I often try to catch some views of the night sky. Since I got the Find X2 Pro I just played along with night mode and not with the pro settings - I think this would increase quality massively.
Attached you'll find some night mode photos and a photo that was shot directly towards the mid-day sun.
Btw: If you have some special settings for astrophotography with Oppo Find X2 Pro, it would be nice to know.
To be honest: Don't buy this phone for camera quality.
The sensors are great, they should be able to beat most other phones quite easily or at least compare to them but that's not the case because of some serious software problems. I don't want to go in depth but this phone isn't about camera or battery. It's about performance and display but even there is lacking. The Display problems from the 8pro also affect oppos devices. It's a shame and makes the whole phone pointless.
