Dynamic device on-off setting

Is there a program that allows me to dynamically change if/when the touch HD powers off, without me explicitly to into settings page manually?
scenario:
regularly, after i don't use my HD for say 2 minutes, the HD turns off automatically. However if I am connected to WiFi and using Live Messenger, when i leave my phone on the desk (while waiting for my buddy reply my Live messenger msg, i would like the phone to stay on (just backlight dim/off) so my WiFi doesn't get cut off and my connection to Live Messenger is alive.
I know in GSen/Gyrator, you can modify the behavior of the phone dynamically based on the application (when to rotate screen and when not to), is there such a program that will change the time-to-shut-off setting based on the running application?
thanks,
bb

[Q] Unable to send s4 media to Smart TV

Strange Issue this unless I've completely missed something.
On my Galaxy Note 2 I can find a picture or video then press the change player icon and the content will appear on my smart TV (Sony) straight away, no messing around, no fuss.
However on the Galaxy S4 (I9505) I cannot get the same thing to happen, it can't see the TV for some reason, when i press the change player icon I get a message saying "no other nearby devices are connected to the same AP. Connect the device to the network and try again"
I don't understand, my phones and tv etc are all under the same network, the galaxy note 2 works fine but the S4 just won't do it.
Please help

Open up a media file, let's say a picture from your gallery. Tap on the picture to display the menu bar. There should be an Allshare icon on there. Tap on the Allshare icon and within seconds the picture should beam to your Sony SmartTV.
I've used it many times sharing media between my S4 and my Sony SmartTV. Also, it doesn't prompt me at all to choose the Sony TV, just sends to it automatically. Maybe because that's the only device the S4 detected that was in range.
Also, you may want to double check on your settings.
settings>nearby devices>shared contents>
Make sure to read the warning on "File Sharing" if you decide to check that box. It is unchecked by default for your security.

You have described exactly how I currently use it on my note 2, I figured the s4 must have slightly different settings, I had already been in those settings you mentioned, ticked the box, read the warning, made sure all pictures, videos etc were ticked to share but nothing works, sometimes when I go into gallery and select the media to view the 'allshare' icon does not appear or the only device showing is 'current device' (being the S4) It just wont see the TV, my wife can do it on her s2, i can use it with my note 2, but the s4 just won't work!
Any other suggestions guys?
I had the same problem on my Samsung smart TV.
Go to settings on TV and check if S4 is in the allowed list for sharing.
Hope you have not disabled any features on your phone. Restart your TV / phone and try connecting the TV from samsung link app, in earlier phones it was called allshare play.

Thanks for your reply rkadve
It turns out the 'nearby devices' setting does not matter if ticked or not, also the TV settings were not the issue as my TV is set to allow devices, with the S2 and Note 2 they just worked, no settings required just all devices must be on the same network which is why I couldn't understand why the S4 wasn't working.
Anyhow I managed to get it working, after some goggling around I came across a few threads saying how a firewall can sometimes block DLNA, I also found another thread saying to simply reboot the router.
So I done two things, I turned off McAfee for 15 mins, then rebooted my Hub. As soon as the Hub booted up again I noticed windows picked up the S4 on my network so I set it to be allowed. I turned on the firewall again and everything worked, I don't think the firewall was causing the issue, I think a simple reboot of the router fixed this.
The only thing that annoys me now is when viewing media in my gallery when I press the allshare/ change player icon it prompts me to select which device, either current player or TV so each time I have to manually press TV, really petty I know but on the S2 or Note 2 it just beams over to the TV, no prompt needed.
Just glad it works now!
HELP dont leave yet! not to thread jack but i too am having the same exact issue except my previous device was a s3 which works fine on my vizio. but no matter what i do i cant get my s4 to stream to the tv

[Q] How to disable wifi notifications

I've disabled the notification on my phone that tells me when I am connected to a wifi network, and when there are open networks available. Unfortunately I still see them regularly on my Samsung Gear Live watch. Is there a way to disable them on the watch also? It's very annoying to be constantly reminded that I am connected to my home network, when I am at home. And to have the bottom third of the watchface covered by the card when I am out-and-about.

WiFi tethering issue

I know this is not exactly Android head unit topic but it's closely related to using the device.
So here's what's going on. When I manually turn on wifi tethering (Hotspot) on my phone (NOA H10, 7.1.1 nougat), device (head unit) connects to it as it should, and everything works.
On the otherhand when I use tasker, or any other app to trigger wifi tethering on Bluetooth connection, the hotspot turns on but device can't connect to it. I get obtaining IP address issue, and when I set to static IP it connects for a few seconds and then drops the connection. It's really frustrating because I know it can work.
I know l can always turn the hotspot on manually when I get into the car but I want it to be automatically turned on when Bluetooth connects to my unit.
Anyone else has/had this kind of issues? Any ideas/solutions?
AFAIK most of these units don't support bluetooth tethering at all. Not really sure if any do at all.

I'm not talking about bluetooth tethering.
Ok I get it, trigger wifi on bluetooth connection with the triggering attempted on the phone side.
I have 0 experience with android phones but I know my iphone will never allow a connection (to anything) unless you open the hotspot setting manually. When I do that my units all automatically connect.

I use Macrodroid app to activate the hotspot when muy phone is conected by bluetooth, and all runs ok
I tried macrodroid. Same thing as the other apps. It turns on hotspot but can't connect to it.
So here's the SITREP, when I use connected to a bluetooth device trigger without specifying a device, the hotspot works. Only if variable, device name and/or mac address is specified the device will not connect to hotspot.
Install and use this plugin
Doesn't work. But I managed to get it work with secure settings and touch task plugins.

I'm using secure settings and touch task Tasker plugins to simulate manual hotspot toggle. When my phone connects to my headunit it triggers screen on then screen unlock to unlock the phone, then quick settings (drop down) menu and finally touch on hotspot tethering icon. Same command is executed on Bluetooth disconnected status.

Hotspot only working when touching screen, not by app?

Hi,
I would like to auto-start the hotspot with a bluetooth connection. This is to enable internet on my android headunit when i enter my car.
The strange thing is that the hotspot only works when i physically hit the hotspot icon in the notification bar. It does NOT work when i try to start it using any of the hotspot tools from the playstore.
Any ideas?
Are those apps allowed to work with screen off? Power management will kill them off if not set.
They are. I adjusted the power settings so they stay awake. I can see the wifi going offline and the Hotspot icon being enabled but the head unit is not getting an ip address.
It does get an ip address when I manually hit the Hotspot icon. Weird isn't it?
