Dynamic device on-off setting - Touch HD General

Is there a program that allows me to dynamically change if/when the touch HD powers off, without me explicitly to into settings page manually?
scenario:
regularly, after i don't use my HD for say 2 minutes, the HD turns off automatically. However if I am connected to WiFi and using Live Messenger, when i leave my phone on the desk (while waiting for my buddy reply my Live messenger msg, i would like the phone to stay on (just backlight dim/off) so my WiFi doesn't get cut off and my connection to Live Messenger is alive.
I know in GSen/Gyrator, you can modify the behavior of the phone dynamically based on the application (when to rotate screen and when not to), is there such a program that will change the time-to-shut-off setting based on the running application?
thanks,
bb

The 8125 is great but how do I fix these issues?

My 8125 is about a month old now and it is great. It’s my first experience with push email and it’s wonderful. I do have a few problems that I can not find a fix for. I have read many forums and have come to the conclusion that these features are either broke or were meant to work incorrectly.
1.) If you leave Pocket Outlook as the foreground task the 8125 will not notify you in any way that you have a new message. You have to turn the device on to check for new email. If Pocket Outlook is not running or its running in the background the phone will beep and the orange light will blink. If the phone is in standby it should notify you of a new message no matter what.
2.) The Bluetooth LED is always blinking. I always use a Bluetooth headset and it’s very common when I am driving to leave iNav GPS software running that uses a Bluetooth GPS. There is no reason for me to ever turn Bluetooth off so I do not need to be notified it is on or off. It would be nice if I could change the Bluetooth LED to notify me of voice mail or a missed call and the orange light can be used for new push email or SMS/MMS messages.
3.) When you open the keyboard it should light up. If you are in a dark room you have to open the keyboard the press a key to get it to light up. I also have not found a way to change how long it stays on for. There are a few reg hacks that claim they change the time but they do not work on my 8125.
4.) Every time I use WiFi I have to change my internet profile so it does not use a proxy. When you turn the WiFi radio on it should automatically change that info. When you turn WiFi off it should change it back automatically.
The following two have nothing to do with the 8125 but if someone has a fix it would be helpful.
5.) When you use push email your IT department can force a policy on the phone to ask for a password every 30 min of inactivity. This is a real pain if you are using a GPS. I found a reg hack that lets me change it to 24 hours but the policy gets forced on the device once a day and I have to run the reg hack again. Has anyone found a way around this?
6.) iNAV GPS Software has a bug that makes the voice navigation on all WM5 devices go very very very slow. The fix is to turn off the GPRS radio. When you do that all your push emails do not come in. iNAV claims they are working on a fix but I was curios if anyone found a way around this issue.
If anyone has any advice on these items it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SeanH
There is no fix for the keyboard light issue. It is a flaw in the way it was built and is a hardware-activated light, so registry keys won't do anything.
Sorry, but that's all I have for you.

I don't have a fix but just work around. What i am doing is to create a separate connection for wi-fi (no proxy). When you need to use wi-fi instead of gprs, you can simply select this connection from settings-->connections-->advanced-->select networks. Hence you don't have to remove the proxy settings for gprs everytime you use wi-fi. It takes a few steps but still easier than add/remove proxy settings. Hope this helps.

I use iNav GPS software a lot but I didn't realize this issue. It seems running perfect, voice prompt, recalculation, display... which version of iNav are you using?

I have a T-Mobile MDA (US) and use Pocket Informant v5 as the default PIM. I don't normally have PI in the foreground but haven't noticed this behavior under any circumstances.

Just touch the bottom right key or the spacebar and the keyboard backlight will turn on without affecting anything else. I've heard complaints about this but I can't see why this is an issue. OTOH, the timing of the backlight is another matter, and it should be adjustable. Alas, it appears not to be.

Mine just logs onto a network if available, and I haven't had any problems with wifi at all.

I'm using iGuidance v3 and haven't noticed this, but GPRS isn't being used. I'm not sure how to enable/disable it, but in Settings > Connections > GPRS it is set to "Chap Authentication." When upgrading firmware I do not auto-load the Ext. ROM programs and have only a few loaded manually, so the GPRS functionality may not be fully implemented. Needless to say, I am not subscribing to internet service at this time.

In a dark area it’s hard to see the keyboard until it lights up. I use the right arrow to get this display to light up. When you press the space bar it will enter a space in what ever app is active. Not turning the light on when the keyboard opens is a design flaw. Most people open the keyboard to use it. As soon as you press any key the light comes on so you can see the keys. It just makes sense to turn the keyboard light on when you open it so you can start typing.

It looks like iNavcorp is in the process of posting a fix. This is from there web site.
Patch file (for DVD version only)
This patch will correct slow voice guidance speed issue on ppc phones as well as some other minor syntex/routing errors on ppc, laptop, and umpc/car pc versions. It also includes few new features such as panning mode exit timer as well as timer reset code for ppc phone edition.

Keeping Internet connection Alive (Ping)

I have been using a dialing CDMA cell over bluetooth for internet access from BlackStone.
The connection goes dormant after 10 sec inactivity. Each wake up from dormancy is charged a new call
Is there any app (preferably freeware) that constantly pings a public server say yahoo.com in background to keep the connection Alive?

HD Tweak has this ability just download and install and check what you want your phone to do I believe it has the option to remain connected when phone sleeps
Thanks for that ... I already have it.
Here the problem is not HD going to sleep but the external phone data connection... So I need to ping it repeatedly. I do on desktop with the ping command. (and earlier in my palm PDA by a IM client for Jabber).
Now on PPC I am lost. I tried an app called GPRS keep alive for WM5 but doesn't seem to work well on WM6 of THD.

Do you found a solution for the disconnect problem? At the moment I use "hrping -t -s 5000 google.de" at my desktop or vxUtils directly on the TouchHD.
vxUtils unfortunately makes the device so slow/unresponsive as to be useless. (looks like some incompatibility with the graphics processing of HD becuse CPU utilisation is not high). So still looking for a useable solution.
Hopefully some one writes a simple pinging utility... My service provider is minting money by data calls every 20-30 sec!!

[Q]Receiving Email - schedule question

Guys,
I have my Touch HD scheduled to connect to my pop box to grab my emails every 5 minutes or so. However can anyone shed any light as to why when I have WIFI active, it still insists on using the data connection to connect and pull the emails down. I can manually use the WiFi connection so why doesnt the scheduler use it?
Do I need a 3rd party app?

That's mean its operator's problem
The Desk Clock was supposed to stay on, but instead the screen blocks and there's no Desk Clock after the screen's time out.
Torch app
It could be nice if they add a Torch app in the next update. Such a shame that the LED is only used for pictures
Gmail Signature
When adding a signature in Gmail the editing box does not expand making it difficult to create a automatic signature

Yea, it would be nice that the Desk Clock stays on. I agree with you. This one is absolutely useless. Shame for such a nice clock.
connection problem on legend
I'm encountering trouble with the connectivity of my legend.
Users from france and belgium are reporting cases when all the connection layer seems ok (connection icon is blinking and all connections seem ok) but in fact no network.
We have to reboot the phone or go to flight mode and come back online to retreive network again.
It seems to impact all kind of connections (I have the problem with WIFI and 3G connection and have no problem with other phones in the same area).
it's quite annoying because for some messaging application you have to go back in the appliaction to see that you're not longer connected.
My biggest issue to date is the the Sync All feature does not actually seem to Sync the weather widget at all. & even if I go into Settings > Accounts & Sync > Sync All - it still does not sync the weather widget. I have to open the Weather App manually to sync. Anyone else having this problem.
Also, how do I reset my default Current Location. It has set mine to my country (Ireland) rather than to my City.

I'm encountering problems (not always) when leaving the home or office WiFi area. The phone doesn't connect to the 3G or GPRS mobile network. Putting it to flight mode or rebooting the Legend solves the problem but it is extremely annoying because you need to double check connectivity issues all the time.

I have exactly the same problem =(
Anyone has a solution?
This is not a huge problem, just a small annoyance to me. In the contacts you have linked with facebook you can choose to have their facebook profile picture as the contact picture or you can choose to use a picture on the phone, but whenever I choose that the contact should have a picture from the phone it just has that picture for a short period and then it reverts back to the picture from facebook.
Anyone know of a solution to this except unlinking the facebook profile?
1. Im really desperate for something to get my led on the back to burn.
You cant even film with the light on.
2. My alarm and timer dont ring with the screen off, havent found a fix yet. I'll have to get an egg timer app
[edit] I actually found out today that I have a special legend phone, and that this alarm/timer bug is only my problem. No one else has this?
About the wifi problem, my downloads get stuck..
But the easiest way to temporarily fix it is to turn your wifi on and off.
Ive put the Power Control widget [android] on the 2nd screen on which u can turn all power sucking functions on and off with the push of a button.
Hello.
Maybe just for me, but does not work GoogleEarth.

Vabration and ringing problem
I've just realised that the ringing and the vibration disappears after some time, even if I leave the phone just to vibrate it doesn't, but if I reboot the phone it goes back to normal.
I've missed a lot of phone calls just because of this.
Does anyone have this problem?
Thanks
Another bug, "people widget" all contacts disappear from widget after rebooting. Some of the photos (facebook ones) in people widget keep disappearing.
Friend stream application: if I go to accounts & sync/general settings/account settings in facebook it should show sync frequency and notifications, etc, but only sync frequency shows.
Sound feedback when typing is loud.
Or is it just me????

[Q]Autosync on FlightMode

hi, i have a Froyo HTC Desire there's a couple of thing I want to know.
I usually have a lot of correspondence via email (especially multiple gmail accounts) and i use my phone primarily when at home or on the go.
i set autosync and background data enabled all the time and set to update on very little intervals.
next, at work, i'll be relocated to a spot in the office that doesn't get any 3g/2g reception at all. and since i can access my mail through PC, i'm planning to just switch my phone to Flight mode while on my desk.
now my question. i've read a hundred times that Autosync eats a lot of jiuce. IF I put my phone in flight mode, and have no active connections or means to connect to any network, will Autosync still persist on connecting / syncing and drain my battery? or do i also have to manually turn background sync and autosync off?
if yes, is there an app that will disable Autosync persistence if flightmode is on or wifi/APN is off?
thanks in advance

Hi,
If I understand correctly you want to switch off any data communication of your phone.
I use a combination :
Sync Settings Version 1.0 - Free App
It places on your desktop a widget with 4 options.
wifi - on\off
Blu Tooth - on\off
Gps - on\off
Sync - Enable ..lets apps sync (incl Gmail.) Disable it disallows.
Brightness - quick controll over screen brightness
The second App I use is the DCSwitch - Free App
Creator described it best:
Code:
DCSwitch turns your data channel on/off to save battery power and/or bytes on a limited data plan.
Similar apps mangle the APN list of your phone, potentially leaving it with corrupt entries.
DCSwitch uses android's undocumented services to enable/disable the data connection in a clean, mean and concise manner.
With usig both of this apps ive been able to boost my battery life Alot. Also save some money on traffic.
Hope this helps you.
rgrds!
