[GUIDE] Increase touch sensitivity with glass screen protector [ROOT] - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi everyone!
I recently dropped my OP3T (sad) and cracked the bottom of my front glass. To hold the whole thing together, I stuck a tempered glass screen protector on the front. The phone was fully functional except I was bothered by how hard I had to press on the screen to register a touch input. I did some digging on other device forums and discovered a fix that works for my OP3T. Greatly improved my touch sensitivity and I'm not getting any spurious inputs.
I am on LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10). I believe this fix should be universal for OP3/T, but if it doesn't work for you on other ROMs, let me know and we can figure it out.
Steps:
1. Open TWRP, mount system, and open up the terminal.
2. Move to the input device configuration directory using the following:
Code:
cd /system/usr/idc
3. Create a configuration file for the touch screen that contains a line for touch sensitivity, using the following:
Code:
echo "touch.pressure.scale=0.000000001" > synaptics.idc
4. Reboot system, and you're done!

Man you saved my a** haha, my gf uses her OP3 for drawing, and it wasn't working properly with it's new hydrogel film protector, but this fixed the issue perfectly! i even think that she can use the phone with gloves now, haha
Thank you!!
Btw, is root neceasary for this? phone was rooted already but since we are doing it from TWRP, does it have to be rooted at all? thanks!

[Q] Nook touch screen not responding

Hi,
On my rooted nook touch, sometimes the touch screen stop working.
It appends whatever software i'm using and randomly. Buttons works, page refresh works too and the nook doesn't lag, it's just a touch screen crash...
I tryed to unregister the nook and to update it from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 then root it again but the problem still here.
Do you know a solution for this problem ? each time it's append I must hard reset the device (power + right bottom buttons)... is there a service to restart to enable touch screen again ?
Thanks
Hi, I'm new here ^^.
I bought the nook touch 2 months ago, and it worked perfectly until yesterday. I installed MSN Mercury from the market, I logged on my account, but when I clicked the menu button, the touch screen stopped working and I used adb reboot from my pc to restart it (I didn't know how to hard reset).
It scared me a lot, and I uninstalled that msn when I restarted the nook.
I request a solution for this too, and, do you know a simple MSN that works perfectly on our e-Ink nook?.
PD: Sorry for my bad english ^^u
Same as you.
Just screen is out of response.
Happened both 1.0.0 1.0.1.
Sent from my NOOK using Tapatalk
i'd seen a thread about this problem in the B & N forum, many users have this problem but there is still no patch to solve it...

Long thread about the subject.
From the thread and running into the issues myself, it seemed to be a sensor/dust issue as the only solution I found working is wiping the screen with a cloth or so. This is kind of sad since I already has a screen protector on it but I guess any bit of dust on the screen could cause the touch function to fail.

I do not have much faith in the dust theory, you'd need some serious dust, like sand, on your screen for the sensor array to even notice it
Remember, it's not a touch sensitive screen like those on phones and pads, but a rather coarse infrared grid "above" your screen.
I've experienced this once myself, and then I simply put the NST away for the night and when I woke up in the morning it was working again which makes me suspect a lockup in the driver,
Had this happen to me. Here is the timeline
1. Girlfriend bought nook for birthday
2. Dropped said nook after 2 months or so
3. Bought refurb off ebay from B&N's ebay account
4. Screen would stop working randomly
5. Contacted support
6. They shipped me a refurb replacement
My second nook wasn't under the extended warranty or even a 30 day warranty. Its a manufacturing issue so they should replace it for free.
Ok, so I had this same problem, and took it to B&N, they said that they hadn't seen that before a gladly replaced it for me. To this day I'm still not sure what caused it, but I know it happened after leaving it in a pretty how car, but not sure if that's linked or not. My current one which I've had for about 5 months hasn't had any problems.
Old thread is Old but I'd gotten mine knocked out of my hands. Screen looks undamaged but the hardware buttons don't appear to do nything other than holding down the n switch to make the glowlight come up. Tried putting it to sleep, plugging it into a computer. Only thing that seems to indicate it isn't a total brick is the glow will come up. Other than that screen has a static of the last book I was reading in coolreader.
Bought the thing for an easter preasent to myself from walmart. Still have the box but it's rooted and til the drop had no problems whatsoever (well problems that weren't due to user error.) Saw a 'leave it overnight' suggestion and am going to ttry that.
Is there anything I can try or is this going to be one of those 'the outside looks fine but the slight bump wiggled something loose that you're going to need to tear the whole thing apart to fix.' things?
Edit: failing that could someone walk me through the button presses/times to press each button to un-root/restore backup using NookManager? I'd be doing that blind as the screen only shows an image from coolreader but I figure better to try taking it back to stock before returning even if nobody looks it over.
Hi All,
Solution for screen as simple as... get tissue, dump it with a bit of water (tap water will do) and clean your screen carefully. Solved Make sure that water gets into corners of screen. There is some kind of filter. It must have connection with top of the screen... some how water do the trick. I was designing custom cover/case for my nook when I discovered it. BTW your finger shod be a bit wet when you use your nook.
Hope it helps!
Thanks

The Nook doesn't have a capacitative or resistive touch screen, so having a wet finger is irrelevant. Instead, it uses an infra-red touch screen. Between the screen and the grey plastic bezel, you'll see a transparent lens protecting the IR emitters and receivers used to determine finger position. Reportedly, if that gets dirty, it fails to register finger positions.

HD2 broken >.<~~

Hi there,
Today, I accidently drop my Hd2 on the floor, the screen cracked but luckily nothing fall out.
Now the screen is not responsive, though I've ordered OneX, I still feel very unhappy because I love my HD2 very well, it is a very good phone.
As I can't control my phone now, I would like to know if I can remote control my phone from PC so that I can make a full backup?
Many thanks...
You can try with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566179 and buy a screen if you l ove him
I love him too
More info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440916
Or try to boot on Magldr or Recovery mod (even without the screen I think it is feasible), mount sd and copy your data on sd on your pc
you could also boot into recovery and using recovery make a backup .img and then mount the .img file and extract the things you need/want
I use androidcast and can remote control my HD2 to do the stuff. I'm not going to replace the lcd+digitizer as I am not expert on this field.
I would like to know if I can use hardware key to control the phone? Or assign action to each keys? I want at least can scroll up & down, toggle wifi/AP and simulate the tap action...

My screen display is okay, but not responsive, is it because the digitizer is not working? Attached is the current situation of my phone, the screen is cracked, but I can't feel any flaws when I touch it, is the digitizer on top of the glass?
Can I just open the phone and check if some cabling problem on the digitizer instead of replacing the whole lcd+digitizer?
honestly, I do not know

Don't see why not, though the screen may disintegrate when you start to dismantle it, plus its not easy to separate the glassdigilcd unit, they're bonded together and the phone hasta be baked at 60degrees for ten mins to separate them, then bonded back together again. Its LOADS easier to buy a new full screen pre assembled.
. Mine worked for 18months with a badly cracked glass, till one random ics flash stopped the digi working.
new digitizer is very cheap and easy installed. hope everything will be ok. good luck!

[Q] Can I use my nook without touchscreen?

Hi all,
I have the nook simple touch since 4 months, and the touchscreen is frozen, nook is unresponsive. I try all, factory reset, clean the screen, etc without any results.
I want to know if is posible to use the nook without the tocuhscreen , only using page buttons, N and power button.
I supose that if is possible I will have to install Android, this is not a problem for me, but I dont know if I will need touchscreen in this process.
Thanks
How do you know if you just screwed up the OS or have a hardware problem or have a display specific problem?
First step is to try noogie on an SD card.
Next step is taking apart the Nook, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting.

Thanks for answer.
I try factory reset and clean the screen without result, and the only thing I do was change the region of the nook ( from USA to UK) and in the begining the screen works great, and few months, touchscreen starts to fail but still works. Now doesnt work. I dont have Android installed. For that I think that its a specific display problem.
PD. Sorry, I dont speak/write english at all. I hope you understand me.
PD2. When you say try noogie on SD, its to put noogie.img(I dont know what it is at all) and restore in case I have Android yes? or if I have nook original SO I can do it too?
Thanks.

Hi!
No, you "burn" the image into the SD card using winimage ou in linux, dd and boot from it.
It mantains your nooks internal memory intact and thus, it remains as it came from factory.
I had somehow the same problem after my nook had a slight fight with the floor.
After opening it, removing the battery and checked the screen from inside (it looked fine from the out side and wasn't boken, just seemed to have dislocated somehow) and reconnecting the batery again, it started to function propperly. It is fine for about one year.

I supose that It has a tutorial of this, but I dont find , can you post me the link please?
And returning to the original question, its possible to use without touchscreen, in case that I cant solve the problem with the touchscreen (that I think that its going to be very difficult)?
Sorry, I was confused by your description of the problem.
So the display itself works fine?
It's just the touch part of it that does not work?
Does it respond to a finger at all? (Even if it senses the wrong place)
Try once again cleaning the screen.
But it's not the screen that matters.
Get a Q-tip (a cotton swap) that is just damp and clean inside the bezel carefully.

Dont worry. Yes, the display works fine, it's just the touch part. No, the touchscreen is completly unresponsive. Doesn't respond to a finger.
I just try to clean not only the screen, I clean the bezel, where the nook have the IQ sensors. When you say inside bezel, its between the bezel and the IQ sensors, or unmounting the bezel of the nook?
I read that I have only to clean the exterior of the bezel, not inside.
Thanks:fingers-crossed:
By "inside" I meant touch the Q-tip to the screen surface then move it outward until it hits the bezel.
The Nook has a separate processor which is only responsible for the touch screen sensing, a MSP430.
First: See if the processor is responding:
Code:
cd /sys/devices/platform/i2c_omap.2/i2c-adapter/i2c-2/2-0050/
cat versions
cat zfstatus
It has its own firmware which can be flashed.
There is a provision inside the stock u-boot.bin for reflashing it.
The command is "mspflash".
There is a file in the Nook 1.2.1 update zForce_Touch_Driver_Gossamer_6_Inch_latest.hex
I've not tried this. If it's not your problem this could make things worse.

[Q] [possible bug] Nook Simple Touch touchscreen input "barring" horizontally

[Q] [possible bug] Nook Simple Touch touchscreen input "barring" horizontally
So I just rooted a Nook Simple Touch that was running the 1.2.1 firmware. It's pretty nice to have web and other apps on it. However, a few seconds after turning it on, when I touch the touchscreen to type or really to press anything, the Nook seems to interpret the touch across a horizontal bar of screen simultaneously, and exclusively activates icons as far to the right of the input touch as possible. e.g. if I press the e key on the soft keyboard it activates the p key. If I press the back button at the top of the screen it opens the WiFi dialogue, and if I hit the nook hard key at the bottom and press the home icon in the menu at the bottom of the screen, it opens the settings dialogue.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes? I used NookManager 0.5.0 and the AppsAttack 0.5.0 on a 4 gig micro SD card to root it. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue as it does not happen during the first few seconds of operation. I was able to type half of an email in Gmail with no problem before this started happening. I've turned the NST off and on several times but the problem keeps occurring.
1. Clean all the edges of the screen with a soft cloth and remove any dust particles. If that does not help, then:
2. Try to restore your system to unrooted state from the backup that you made, before rooting. (You have made one, haven't you?) If that does not help, then:
3. Read about Renate NST diagnostic application:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52723066&postcount=13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52674827&postcount=8
If that does not help either, then:
4. You can probably buy another unit with cracked display for dirt cheap and switch the motherboards. The only tools you'd need for that will be a torx screwdriver, size 5 and something like a plastic toothpick to pull out the power on switch. Disassembly instructions are on the youtube and other ifixit for example.

Thanks. There is a dusty screen protector on the nook. (the stick-on kind) which I could try removing. However like I said sometimes it senses touch just fine... the "bug" doesn't kick in until I've been using it for several seconds. I do have a backup... will Nook Manager handle restoring that? I formatted my Nook Manager card after I used it to root the nook. Will it still work if I put nook manager back on it.? Thanks for the good reply.

If it's a NookManager backup, NookManager will restore it. And yes, it will work if you put NookManager back on the card.

Touchscreen broken, Pattern impossible to draw

Hi!
I'm facing a big trouble... My ZUK Edge was a bit damaged on the front, but the screen still worked perfectly. Today, a part of the screen (on the right side) is not working anymore.
PROBLEM: i have a pattern lock, that i CAN'T draw anymore cause it goes where the touchscreen is not working anymore.
I tried all the solutions proposed on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620456
(except one, the "hack SQLite" one, which i can't go through cause there is not "settings.db" file provided in the attachment)
nothing work... (take a look :

I have the same problem as well phone dropped few days ago has display but mine is even worst I can't touch the screen at all. Most likely dead digitizer although no cracks visible on screen. How I got the phone to work is go buy a USB c otg. And then plug in a mouse and use. I was able to backup all my stuff and navigate around.
