HD2 broken >.<~~ - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi there,
Today, I accidently drop my Hd2 on the floor, the screen cracked but luckily nothing fall out.
Now the screen is not responsive, though I've ordered OneX, I still feel very unhappy because I love my HD2 very well, it is a very good phone.
As I can't control my phone now, I would like to know if I can remote control my phone from PC so that I can make a full backup?
Many thanks...

You can try with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566179 and buy a screen if you l ove him
I love him too
More info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440916
Or try to boot on Magldr or Recovery mod (even without the screen I think it is feasible), mount sd and copy your data on sd on your pc

you could also boot into recovery and using recovery make a backup .img and then mount the .img file and extract the things you need/want

I use androidcast and can remote control my HD2 to do the stuff. I'm not going to replace the lcd+digitizer as I am not expert on this field.
I would like to know if I can use hardware key to control the phone? Or assign action to each keys? I want at least can scroll up & down, toggle wifi/AP and simulate the tap action...

My screen display is okay, but not responsive, is it because the digitizer is not working? Attached is the current situation of my phone, the screen is cracked, but I can't feel any flaws when I touch it, is the digitizer on top of the glass?
Can I just open the phone and check if some cabling problem on the digitizer instead of replacing the whole lcd+digitizer?

honestly, I do not know

Don't see why not, though the screen may disintegrate when you start to dismantle it, plus its not easy to separate the glassdigilcd unit, they're bonded together and the phone hasta be baked at 60degrees for ten mins to separate them, then bonded back together again. Its LOADS easier to buy a new full screen pre assembled.
. Mine worked for 18months with a badly cracked glass, till one random ics flash stopped the digi working.

new digitizer is very cheap and easy installed. hope everything will be ok. good luck!

is my 8525's touchscreen going out?

When I got my 8525 about a year ago I immediately put schaps on it. About 6 months ago I gave starbase 64 a shot and I dont know if it was coincidence (probably was) or what, but ever since then my screen gets a little off. What I mean by that is, when I first calibrate it it's dead on. After about 2 minutes it gets off. Like I touch the screen and it's at least a good 1/4" off.
Is it my digitizer going out or is it the rom's going kiddy whompus with my device?
Mate, mine did the same thing. The digitizer is going.
Download remote screen alignment (quick search will get the app), it installs on the PC so that you can use the PC to record the screen alignment settings and then, if you do a hard reset or flash a new rom and can't get past the alignment the PC will get you to the today screen. Hardware keys will allow most functions, though its a *****, but either replace the LCD (digitizer attached) or put the cash towards a new Device. Leys face it, the Hermes is no longer supported and a lot of the chefs are leavin for new devices. Soon it will only be us diehards, too poor to upgrade or too stubborn, left on the forums...
Cheers...

BAH! I had a feeling that was the case. If the snow would fall I'd be making a few hundred a night plowing and I could get a new one.... Maybe I'll give my plan to someone and throw my blackberry in on the deal and get a new htc with a plan.
Well, if you are pretty handy with a screwdriver the digitizers arent too hard to replace and run pretty cheap on eBay. I just did a new LCD and Digitizer on my 8525 about 2 weeks ago and I think it ran me a whole $25 shipping and all. Just an idea if you are kinda attached to that one.

Is this what you mean? Or is this it?
I found that app after a few frantic searches (I wasn't able to align after my first flash lol) and it's brilliant. However, I found a better way was just to place a file named welcome.not (create a new text document and rename it welcome.not) in the root dir of the microsd. That bypasses the whole welcome thing when you reflash.
Definately the LCD and digitizer combo. Its a MAJOR pain in the acher to try and attach the digitiser to the LCD, you have to first remove the old one. Mongrel job. Easier to just replace the LCD and digitiser as one unit.
Ok thanks

Major touch screen problem with touch hd!!

touchscreen was working today morning, took battery out for 2 hours, turned it back on and it was working abit weird, and now i cant press any touchscreen buttons atall!
So no softkeys (pick call, home etc.) and nothining on the big screen! I can turn on the phone, press the power button and volume buttons, see my home screen get calls etc.. hard reset twice, took battery out, nothing does it .. gonna try flash it but dont think itll do it ... and ideas?
Im in uk aswell if that makes a diff
Dear All,
I have similar problem. Usuallí I use on my HD NRG ROM. About 3 weeks ago I updated to the latest NRG WM 6.5 23xxx ROM with Sense 2.5 Maxmanila version, and since this upgrade the touch screen position moving randomized up or down from 2 mm to 30mm!!! After this ROM I tryed updating each newer version, but not changed nothing. I need realign the screen about 10 times / day!!! The phone I never dropped or cracked.
Can help me somebody what happened with my HD?
I had this happen to me yesterday. I was surfing on my phone as per the norm. Put my phone down. Got a txt, picked it up and it wouldnt allow me to access it. I thought it must be a freeze as it has happened occasionally.
So I restarted.............and nothing. No response AT ALL from the touch screen.
I have noticed the oily spot problem on the most part of my screen, and thescreen doesnt have that little give it used to when using it (paranoia possibly)
So I can only assume something has given within the screen. Ive been searching all day on the internet for causes and fixes but nothing has come up.
The volume and power buttons work but I cant do anything at all with the phone as its obviously all touch based.
Is this a screen replacement job then or is the whole phone goosed?
Roheelshah if you turn your phone off do you have the massive oily screen thing?
Any help is most appreciated....
I had the same thing, a oily spot, but it was there for months, then i noticed another new spot (looked like a tiny tiny burn) and thats when it stopped working completely... ive ordered a new screen which should be comming in a few days, im hoping thats the issue
will let you know if it works ....
keep me updated if you find anything
thanks!

whats it do? and where from??
I just posted something like this a few days ago, pulled my phone out and screen wouldnt respond, had these marks all over my screen, "swirly marks" as i describe it, very well could be the oily marks you are talking about. you can move them around with your finger right?
anyway, i took my sim out, tryna find a spare phone, couple hours later the marks were gone and screen started working again, touch wood its been fine since.
no idea what happened, but try letting it air out or something
ok basically i received a new digitizer today (the actual touchscreen) ...
i dismantled the whole phone using the service manual and some video some guy made (VERY HELPFUL, if anyone wants it for any reason i can post a link), ok so i got rid of all the top bits, the circuit boards (or watever theyre called)
I got down to just the bezel, lcd and digitizer (dont know what a bezel is, the lcd is where the display actually is and digitizer is directly stuck ontop of that)
Apparently when replacing the screen, htc have made it so that you have to replace all three of those parts instead of individual ones, but you can buy them seperately so i thought i'd hero it.
i poked out the screen from the frame (some chewingum like stuff holding it in) then i started peeling off the digitizer (if you get one and want to try it you'll know where to peel) ... this was a mistake tho cause the lcd is unbelievebly sensitive so while peeling off it left scratches on the lcd, and me not knowing the lcd is sticky tried to wipe them and use a dust free cloth, which left alot of crap on the actual lcd!
i managed to get the digitizer off and ripped the cable that goes from digitizer to whatever reads our fingers on the screen, took it all off, placed the new one directly ontop and fed the wire exactly how it was for the first screen.
Put it all together again
Now I did mess up my screen badly, but in a good way! .. i now have full touchscreen working (smoother than ever) but my LCD display is near enough gone, so it looks like the screens really really dark, and i have to tilt it at certain angles to see the screen..
After all of this i now have a touch hd i can controll from my pc (using mymobiler) so i can recieve calls, send texts all from my pc when connected thru active sync, can even play teeter ... but not really the same!
I wouldnt recomend anyone to try what i did, although i think its worth the risk as I would have to replace the lcd anyways if i wanted a new screen in the first place... and who knows you might be able to peel the digitizer off clean (NEVER EVER EVER TOUCH LCD WITH ANYTHING!!!).
It all cost me around 10-15£ for the digitizer and screwdrivers and alot of hours dismantling phone compared to 50-100£ for a new lcd.
I am either going to get a new lcd now so i can actually see the screen, or get a new phone.
Sorry for the essay but hopefully this helps someone in any similar situation
if i do get a new lcd will post how it goes and if it sorts out everything
if anyone knows of any other reasons why my lcd would be so dim (brightness is 100%) accept for me getting carried away with it ... help would be appreciated

Yeah swirly oil marks is how myne started ... i think i finished off the screen by trying to press hard on the mark to try and clear it .. . so be careful with it.. but think that overall the screen had seen better days (course only a few weeks after warrenty finishes) ... all conections inside were ok aswell

Same here. Touch screen not working. Phone never flashed, droped,...
Any solution?
unfortunately, a friend of mine changed the touchscreen without success. Phone was in perfect state, no drop, no flash. Just the touch not responding. I'm not sure that changing whole part lcd+digitizer solve the problem.
Hi all!
I've got similar problem with my touch HD. It's stock since I bought it. My touch sense was acting weird, like it wasn't properly calibrated. Like, when I press 7 on phone pad, the phone actually presses 1, and if I press 0, phone presses 5 and so on..
I've tried to align the screen, but it doesn't get aligned the first time. I have to repeat the process about 4 times before it gets aligned. That's good for about few minutes and the problem is back. Hard reset was also done, 2 times.
Could this be a fixed with a software update? Does this mean that digitizer will soon be dead?
Thank you for your help

Just did the hard reset. When it asked me to align the screen, I just couldn't align the top left corner. I had to press it like 50 times before cross went to the lower corner. Otherwise, after the align it's good for about couple of seconds and then it's just pressing all over.
I thought I had just some software issues because the screen wasn't dead, it responded to my touch. So, I'll probably have to buy a new screen and digitizer, right? Or do you have any other ideas?
Thank you again for your help!
Regards
firstly screencal installs calibration settings not for blackstone so do not install it, no point. (btw it also increases device touch sensitivity)
secondly you guys should try and install the calibration settings for blackstone, basicly what the align screen does, not sure where to find them for download but i could post the registrys if someone wants to make a .cab from them. (atm i cba making the .cab but i am able to do it )
if the calibration settings do not work i think it is best to buy a new lcd package (or buy new device and give me old one for spares oj)
Rn
hi buddy ! What you mean GSensorCalibrator ??
i didnt mention anything about gsensor calibration dude.
tried and tested screencal the other week and it screwed my blackstone.
install these instead:
*screen calibration, sets the blackstone touch points: (aligning the screen)
if you install a cab with these registrys it should fix the alignment problem.
(if it doesnt then its hardware issue = lcd etc)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"MaxCalError"=dword:8
"CalibrationData"="511,542 183,881 183,198 834,197 833,880"
*this one will maximise the touch sensitivity for those that want it:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel]
"PressureThreshold"=dword:0

Does anyone have a recommendation where you can buy a digitizer and lcd from?

[Q] HD2 Screen Trouble, Looking for an answer to buy the right part

Greets all,
I know probably this is the wrong section but I thought I would get a quicker response to my dilema. I was testing out my rom on my Test HD2 phone (I have two of them) and this one has the infamous end key issue, and tested my patience, so I read that if you use a very small flathead screw driver and push a certain place, you can get it to unstick, being that I tried all my methods that usually worked, I decide to try, well, the screwdriver slipped under the button part between the end key and the back key and screwed up my screen where I have all funny colors all over. So I was wondering if any could tell me if this is a LCD problem or a digitizer problem. There is no running liquid on the screen. The screenshot below is exactly what my screen looks like, and I want to buy the replacement, but I dont want to buy the wrong part and waste money, so can someone please let me know what it is that I have to replace? Thanks!

Its definetly an LCD issue, anyways not a major issue, as long as you can dismantle the phone and clear up the area btw the LCD and Keypad, i guess it should be back to normal
When you say Clear up the area, mind clarifying what that means? I can dismantle the phone, at this point it would probably be cheaper then sending for repair especially that its most likely out of warranty anyway.
I'm pretty much under the impression I am going to need to buy a lcd/digitizer combo to fix this. Unless I dont have to, cause like I said there is no bleeding and the phone works fine (minus the touchscreen issue caused by the end key) I can navigate thru the phone using droid explorers Screencast.
well what i intened to say was that there could be particles of dust or debris that is causing the LCD ribbon to come out a little, Coz i had a similar issue with "Dead touchscreen workin hard press end key " , later when i dismantled the phone and put it back again my screen looked exactly like yours, all i had to do was open it again and fix the LCD flex to the Main board properly thats all.
on a side note:
Well the touchscreen issue eventualy died all together, and i now have a replaced LCD from HTC and the screen is dull

FIX for HTC HD2 touch screen not responding

After reading several posts to find a cure for my HTC HD2 unresponsive touch screen,( Slider wont slide to open applications), I decided to verify a theory. Software... Digitalizer screen, or power button.
Ok, first I Instelled about six different android versions, and the screen slide still failed. I reverted the cell back to original t-mobile windows software, and still locked screen.
Conclussion: The sofware is not the problem.
After several attempts pressing the red power button, I got the slider to open. Briefly, it locked again. Pressed the red button hard and tried to work the slide on the touch screen. Again briefly worked. After several more attempts I got it to slide and while the phone was awake, everything worked perfect. I played games, oppened applications, texted, made phone calls, and the touch screen worked flawless.
Conclussion: The digitalizer (Thin top glass screen on top of the display that responds to touch) is not the problem.
This led me to belibe that the power button was at fault. I called T-mobile and after explaining the problem, they decided to send me a different type of windows cell. I want my htc. So I declined the offer and decided to void the warranty and take matters in my own hands. Yes, I opened my HTC HD2. This is what I found: After about an hour I had carefully taken my htc apart without braking or scratching the phone or screen. When I finaly got to the buttons on the bottom, I noticed how cheap they where made. A thin copper circle on top of two contacts held in place by tape. Yes you heard right, tape. After a while, beating on the red end key for maybe a year or two, the tape brakes and the metal piece slides to the side, and makes the button to malfunction, that's why the hard pressing to make it work. I tried A bottle of comppressed power air to clean them before disassembling the phone but the way they are installed It's not possible to clean them like that.
Conclussion: The red end key is faulty.
I decided to keep the cell alive so I went on e-bay and ordered the buttons, and just in case I also got a new digitalizer for testing purpose.
The buttons panel was about 4 dollars and some change, and the digitalizer (touch screen) was about 14 dollars for a total of less than 20 bucks. (Worth it)
So here are some pics of my cell buttons, and what it should look like. After I get the parts and assemble it I will conclude and let you know the final and official veredict. As of now, it all leads to the button.
Please do let us know how you got on. I have a HD2 which I'd like to get up and running again so I can play with custom roms and leave my other mobile alone...lol. Any chance you could link to the places you got parts/tape from, and what tools we would need?
Cheers! :good:

listening in as well
sheesh! my wife's HD2 also stop responding yesterday, seems like clockwork that a lot are having the same problem
first have to find "how to open your HD2" w/o breaking anything in the process :silly:
Damn. The second time I'm hearing about the red button giving problems.... Will be waiting results from you dude!!! +1
still wayting for the parts
Well, I am still wayting for the parts, they are on the way. The parts I found on E-bay. The buttons panel was about five or 6 dollars, I also got the digitalizer which was about 15 dollars. As soon as I get the parts, I will assemble my hd2 with the original digytalizer (the thin top screen) and test to make sure the buttons were the problem. If all goes well, I will post a complete test result with links to how to get the parts, a link on how to dissassemble the hd2 and all info I can to help on this issue. I did a step back in life, and pulled out my trusty 7 years old motorola razr v3 and stuck my sim card so i can talk and text 5 words in 7 minutes. No internet... I need my HD2... Well, I will report back as soon as I can. Thanks for the wait...
@dragonsuicida
will be waiting for your findings & ways to dis-assemble the HD2 :fingers-crossed:
You were lucky to find the buttons' panel for 4bucks. I just checked out Ebay india, and the panel is 40bucks!!! What a robbery!
Wow. Me too!
I have been running Win6.5 still on my HD2, and have found in the last few days, my screen locks and I can't unlock it.
I came here deciding it was a software issue and was going to look into putting Android on my HD2.
I was slowly coming to the conclusion that it was the power button.
If I make an effort to NOT touch it - my phone seems happy.
It's amazing that we're all having the same problem about 2 and a bit years down the track since the HD2 was released - almost a built in expiry!!
And yeah - lots of details on how to fix it would be great.
The HD2 is too good-a-piece of hardware to allow a ****ty hardware button to be the cause of it's death.
New Keypad Button Flex Cable Ribbon For HTC HD2
Copy this:
New Keypad Button Flex Cable Ribbon For HTC HD2 T8585 and paste it on ebay, it will bring the buttons for the htc hd2. I belive they all come from china, but after I test them I will let you all know if they work and if they are worth it.
Copy this: REPLACEMENT DIGITIZER TOUCH SCREEN LENS for HTC HD2 T8585 and paste it on e-bay and it will bring you the digitizer for the hd2.
copy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdOC3Xxo_k0 and paste it on your web browser, and it will lead you to a video on How To Replace Repair Disassemble Screen Digitizer. When it gets to a part that say that you have to put the phone in a oven, is just to melt the tape or glue holding the screen to the phone. I just used a hair dryer to war the screen enough to carefully remove the screen and the digitizer from the phone without breaking them, It works. I will be back soon with more info. I believe my digitizer screen is on the mail box now. Will report back...
I have same problem. Today I bought a flex cable ribbon and waiting for the dispatch (estimated in 2 days). I will also report back..
Same problem here!
Hope to hear soon that this is the way to go to fix it
You have to stick back the tape in the housing. The tape is electrically conductive. It connects the ground of the keyboard flex cable with the ground of the housing.

Be careful! There are two types of digitizer:
- Solder version http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-touch-hd2-touch-screen-with-digitizer-solder-version/
- Socket version http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-touch-hd2-touch-screen-with-digitizer-socket-version/
Be very careful when ordering parts, specially the digitizer they have several kinds, solder and socket, and different socket sizes. Compare parts with the ones in your cell to make sure, don't just believe the advertisements.
Hi, any updates on this? I'm also having this issue, but in my case, even pressing end call really really hard doesn't solve the problem... snif..
+1 on that
i pressed all the keys even the lower part of the LCD & flashed new roms but no joy :crying:
will bring to shop instead I'm afraid to open it up, it might end up even worse
Just be extremely careful when you try this. That flex cable is so incredible fragile and easy to tear. My roommate tore the volume rocker section right off of his HD2.
Hi dragonsuicida
Were you able to get your touchscreen to work?

A truck rolled over my ZenFone II - ZE551 ML [BACK/SOUND/CAMERA SEEM INTACT]

Hello peeps,
I had just recently got this phone, its been 2 months exact and yesterday this happened. It was upside down when it rolled over it (was on the road), I was surprised to know that its back merely seems damaged (see pictures to have better idea).
- Speaker seems to be working fine. (SIM working in it!)
- LED indicator is blinking too and working as it should.
- It turns on/off without any problem.
- The power and volume buttons are also working fine.
I had lock screen passcode on so can't access the data, but it connects to computer fine. I wonder if replacing the display and screen digitizer will be the only things I need to make it work.
PS : I had no screen protector/back case or anything on it.
EDIT 1 : Touch is still working. I just somehow like entered the emergency mode and I can hear the dial pad tones.
EDIT 2: Data accessed!!

I just disassembled it, apart from one thing everything in there seems intact, it may require soldering.

Don't think a tempered glass would've saved his phone from a truck lol. I'm impressed by how little damage it took actually
Please keep us informed if you find any damage other than the screen and back.
Wow sorry about that but also glad to see how it was able to withstand a beating like that :banghead:
Make a youtube video. It might go viral if you can show it still works ie: sound phone call. You might make enough money to buy a new phone.

If you had usb debugging enabled, you can completely remove the lockscreen and access your data. There is a reddit post detailing how to do it step by step. Please Google because I don't have a bookmark. I did this to my Z3 when i got damaged. If you didn't have USB debugging enabled, you'll have to find some hack to do that before attempting.
Also replacing the screen and maybe the digitizer (if damaged) should get your phone back up and running.

Hey if USB debugging was not enabled, you might have to find a way to do it. And I did try doing some Google search but couldn't come across anything! Really sorry but the thread was on Reddit and you should probably search for it there. I'm not sure of the exact keywords I used!
Touch is still working. I just somehow like entered the emergency mode and I can hear the dial pad tones. I can try entering the pattern now, but I don't remember if I had to like swipe after pressing the power button or double tapping the screen or it was just the code straight away after pressing the power button or tapping the screen, could someone please help me with the two options as how they work and also just send screenshot of the lock screen with pass code on so I have the idea about it and all?
EDIT : @thedisturbedone : I managed to pull the lock away as touch screen is working haha!
Is there anyway possible that I can use it via PC? Asus PC link requires the app running in background. Also anyway possible to backup the contacts now?
@ASUS_Khang : Have a look here.

Hey there, thanks for sharing...been away on Thanksgiving. You want to save your data? Hmm...good question. Here's what I would try to do:
- Contacts should be backed up in Google - so no worries there...you can access via. http://contacts.google.com I think
- Connect the phone to PC, Install ASUS PC Link. You should have the app running on the phone.
- I would then try to drag all the files you need to your computer,
- Or the other thing you can do is if the information is crucial....And I don't promote doing this, and this is not an official ASUS fix...because you will void your warranty..sooo anything issue that happens is on you and ASUS will not help you if something goes wrong...is to root your device, install Titanium Backup, and use that to save all your data (apps and everything) into Google Drive, or Dropbox. Then, you can restore that data back to your phone when it's fixed.
What about micro USB to HDMI and then follow on the big screen what you're doing?
@ASUS_Khang : I wanted to have your attention for the giveaway thing as my story is all posted here. Thanks for the input anyway.

I have recovered the data from the phone itself, the remaining things are notes/contacts which I can't do via connecting the phone to PC now and I had backed up contacts already so no worries.
Haven't read the whole thread, not sure what your plans are, but thought I'd share a recent experience.
My wife knocked her phone off a table at a restaurant a few weeks ago. Landed on the corner when it hit the tile floor. Screen shattered. Was still usable, but bits of glass were flaking off.
I ordered her a new screen & digitizer from amazon. Took about 3 weeks to show up. I replaced it using a plastic spudger tool I had from an old iPhone screen replacement kit, and some patience. The screen replacement kit I ordered came with some double sided tape to reseal everything. Took about 90 minutes to complete as I was taking my time. The replacement went flawlessly and you can't even tell her screen has been replaced. I'd recommend trying that before replacing the phone, unless you want to.
