When I use my iphone 6 to make bluetooth calls via the HU
the person on the other line hear's their own voice echoing through their phone. I've tried using 4 different mics, 2 external, the oem that came with the '06 e-class, and the internal that came with the HU--but all have the same issue. Is there a setting or software/app that can fix this? It's been driving me nuts and basically makes the bluetooth phone talk useless in the car--I've even tried putting the car speaker volume on the lowest setting and problem still persists for the person on the other line.

p.s. my headunit is a Huifei 4.4.4 kitkat quad-core with 16gb drive and 1gb ram. I am running the OS that came with the unit.
Check out this thread for a work around.. While it is not an easy fix, it may help.. I have yet to donit myself as I also have unuseable Bluetooth going due to to low internal Mike.. I haven't even tried the external that came with the unit..but am planning on giving the fix a try as at the moment I can't use handsfree

Hi thanks for the link. Wow though, that's quite involved and I'm not electronically savvy to pull that off. Pulling the HU apart, soldering, wiring, re-wiring.
I wonder if there is a way to get bluetooth via a parrot interface but have it still interact with the HU?

I a same similar model Joying QuadCore K1366,4.4.4 kitkat, 1024*600. Many callers have told me that the ECHO is extremely sharp tone and annoying. I've look every where with no easy solution.
Got the same system as op and have obtained an updated ROM from the manufacturer which made an insignificant difference. This is a common issue with these units and don't trust myself doing the hardware fix. Tried several external mics with no "joy in" improving it.

There are so many headunits that look the same with different hardware, look different with similar hardware, and are just altogether different. I can't find definitive information anywhere, and frankly search just returns too much scattered information to really sift through.
Needs:
Hands free quality is important.

So it looks like the other two to consider other than the Hue Fei clones is the Newsmy which only has 1 RCA Pre-out and the Ownice which doesn't have root.
there is a new generation of AN-21U unbranded units floating around ali express. If you shop around you can get a good deal on one. Quad core R16 A9/1 GB RAM/up to 1080x600 res. There is little info on them so far since they are so new, but since they appear to be an update to a very popular pre-existing model, they should gain more support soon on xda.

I have one coming in today and will update that thread with my impressions. I previously owned a carjoying UQ-124 so I will have a good unit to compare it to.
The carjoying unit was pretty solid but had one major issue - BT audio quality. The audio also was controlled by the MCU (poorly) which required a complex hardware mod to rectify. I also for some reason had stability issues w/ google now voice control (ok google)... worked sometimes but would crash >50% of the time.
I am hoping my new unit will not have these issues.

The Newsmy CarPad III (NRXXXX) has 5.1 pre-out available and uses the same MCU and ROM as the CarPad II (NUXXXX)

This guy has been pretty responsive with his first 2 designs and now he's putting out an octa-core unit. Probably overkill but the indiegogo price is right. I don't know what his projected delivery dates are for this unit. You can check out his google+ page as well. That is his primary avenue for support and it seems to mostly work pretty well.

What MCU done is about more low level works like power management. really depends on design. No base for comparing.

Most have mic built-in(in the panel), some have external connector which provide a chance to apply a good mic.

It is not about software/ROM/firmeware. this is by hardware design.

Lots of work is needed to port system to a newer version android. Similar as mobile phone.

summary - new unit is better than joying in every way except for customization and xda support. I have not applied an external amp or sub to my system yet, but I will soon. I am already using custom speakers (focal 8"). BT audio quality is night and day difference over joying. Bad BT audio quality is not universal, joying just did a poor job b/c they wired internal & external mic in parallel & used low quality bt module. I highly recommend it, though I have only had a short time with it (less than a day). My thoughts may change as I get more time to find issues.
@nonstop2050, I like how active you are here, I would have loved to buy one of your units had you supported my vehicle. If someone were to buy how long would you take to ship? I had to wait 3 weeks for my unit... I think they manufacture units as the orders come in, they don't keep stock on hand.
The joying units with a single volume knob allow you to adjust the pre out voltage. I have mine feeding into a 4 channel amp, powering front hertz components and a single JBL sub. I use the crossover on the amplifier - more scope for adjustability & probably performs more consistently than the one in the headunit feeding the sub pre out.
Pyle has recently released a few head units running 4.4.4 Kitkat. From the Amazon description:

It also indicates "Unlock Tablet-Style functionality." I'm assuming this means it comes rooted.
While Pyle is not known as the paragon of quality, they appear to be the first brand with a US presence offering an Android HU. Since their other HUs appear to follow the US DIN standard these could have the advantage of fitting in one of the readily available dash kits.

how much RAM? I wonder where/how it was engineered? The biggest issue w/ these chinese HUs is the poor engineering standards. One of the biggest examples being the internal/external mic wired in parallel on joying/pumpkin HUs. This issue has been around for well over a year now, and despite pumping out new models they still haven't fixed this glaring issue.
To add to that, the whole MCU concept, and the fact that the BT is effectively de-coupled from the core system.
What I'd gladly pay $500 or so for (possibly more) -
- high quality DAC/pre-outs
- no MCU
- parrot BT FULLY INTEGRATED into the OS
- proper internal/external mic interaction
- octacore
- 2GB RAM
- android 5.0. Honestly not that big of a deal if the OS is stable and runs all the standard apps
- fully mappable/customizeable hotkeys for launching custom apps from SWC/physical buttons
That would be nice. I'd sacrifice my car custom plug & play HU with a standard double din w/ those features in a heartbeat. The glaring engineering flaws in all of these current android HUs is frustrating. But I live w/ it b/c it's still a nice upgrade over stock.

Closest I've seen is the in-dash.net unit which is octacore with android 5.1 coming sometime this year, (allegedly). The MCU issue is unfortunately unavoidable at least until Google adds native bluetooth HFP into AOSP, which isn't likely to happen. And even then you still need something to be the go-between control of the amplifiers, LCD brightness control, etc.
I have the octacore in-dash.net unit and it's pretty good. My biggest beef is with the bluetooth handling. The interface is fairly basic. I think one thing that these units need is their own 'contacts' and 'dialer' apps that can dial via the bluetooth service but that also interacts with my google contacts, google maps, phone links, etc so that I don't have to do the contacts sharing, or copy and paste phone numbers from web searches or maps searches. I've got the feeling that that is easier said than done but it is key in my mind.
This is my first android HU so I'm not super familiar with the mic issues that seem to plague them. My external mic seems to just be really quiet pickup. I was thinking of getting a little pre-amp for it to put in between the plug and the HU. Perhaps I should do some more research first?
I have just been using the built in amp so far. Was thinking about testing the pre-outs on this unit. I suppose I could just break it down and take a look at the components to see if I can determine what DAC is being used.
Oh, also I don't have SWC in my car but this unit is setup for them. Not sure the physical interface specifically as I didn't purchase that option but the mapping is all in the "vehicle interface settings" app on the unit.
Not all of these head units have the mic problem. But joying & pumpkin, which are two of the most popular models, do have this problem. I used to have a joying, now I have a 2nd gen AN-21U, and it doesn't have the mic problem.
Yes the ability to fully integrate our phones with google now via the HU would be perfect. Google now has all my contacts as I have an android phone and save my contacts to google. But trying to call a number this way goes nowhere. Really a way to make the whole experience as hands free as possible would be great. Ford has sync, mazda has gracenote, and there are others I'm sure that attempt to implement a fully hands free system.
Other users have already examined the DAC in these units. One made an audio mod that integrates the DAC directly with the unit instead of passing it through the MCU, which significantly improves the unit's audio capabilities. It's just another example of the head sctatching engineering decisions on these things.

Btw I am not sure if there is a universal pre-out configuration for these, but my AN-21U has 1V unshielded pre-outs. Pretty frustrating. I get some "white noise" in the background when I up the volume thanks to the high noise floor. Considering putting in some high quality RCA cables to see if that helps, but obviously if the pre-out voltage was higher this would be less of an issue.

I 've bought and been using one of these for about a week now and had a couple questions for you guys. This radio seems to have an app for controlling the Bluetooth function and is not controlled within the settings menus. Do you think think the app could be changed as a Bluetooth obd2 module I use with other Android device works fine with the same car. I have the same question for the radio tuner app, I don't like the layout and it won't tell me the song titles . I search but can't find a "local station" radio tuner app.

I've got it and rooted it on 4.4.4 su etc ...flash fire enabled.....anyone point me to someone that could walk me thru dumping the rom on this unit and someone that can then make a custom recovery we would be in the game for this unit ..it has a recovery ..all I can say for right now .....v4a apk will not work on this unit due to some busy box error I cant stop ..I have it correct in the system ....so we need custom.rom.for it .....any one still wanna rip this thing?

Please help. I upgraded my PYLE PLDNANDVR 695 and lost bluetooth. Pyle wants me to send it in for repair. I much rather fixing this myself.
I just purchased a new 7" Joying 5.1.1 mtcd unit. The audio during a Bluetooth call is awful. It comes through so broken up I can barely understand the person talking to me. It's not my phone either because I tried another Bluetooth headset and it worked fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Per mtcb thread, the same mic issues exists as almostevery cheap chinese head unit, including the wince units. The solution is to physically and electrically disconnect the internal microphone and connect a quality external microphone. Forget the cheap Chinese external mics and source a local lapel electret microphone. The difference will be night and day! Installation is important too - suggest mounting on steering column or (best) pointing back toward driver near rear view mirror (window acts as a parabolic reflector.) Keep away from sides/side window to minimise road noise.

I have read a little about that and it seems that will only fix the outgoing sound(my voice). Will it help the incoming sound that I get from whoever I am talking to on the phone?

This might help the incoming sound if the outgoing is really bad as some outgoing is mixed. The mic mod exponentially improves outbound audio so suggest making the modification and testing your results.
I bought a 7" Carjoying (Android 4.4.4 kitkat; CPU: RK3188 1.6GHz Cortex A9 Quad Core) last january for my 98 ford ranger. While running wires for the GPS, I went ahead and installed the external mic(came with the unit) on my sun visor. People have no issues hearing me, unless I'm on the freeway with the window down. I did not disconnect the head unit mic.

I had the same issues. The audio quality from the one speaker did improve some after updating the software.

i agree, i went from the Joying June update to the mid-August MCU update and I think it does sound better. Still not great, but better

Well first of all how I wish I'd checked these forums first before buying as I wouldn't have, second I wish I'd at least bought from the UK as I'd get some support. But hey ho I didn't and I'm stuck with it as returning to china seems to risky after the message suggested returning at a value of $70 so they don't get taxed and also making sure its sent by EMs so it doesn't get lost in transit like many units do at customs!!
So I bought what seemed to be an all singing all dancing unit from seicane store on ali express, for my seat ibiza mk5. According to the system info via root check app it's a px3, 7.1.2 android, rock chip, rk30sdk.
Amongst many other problems my main one is the Bluetooth audio quality over A2DP is horrendous, and it's not an amp problem as over aux or USB it's perfect. I've been looking at airplay using air bubble app and personal hotspot but it's too long to load and unstable I only drive 15 min to work so just want fast music to my ears! I've considered getting a Bluetooth transmitter and sticking it in the aux input but not ideal.
Anyone got suggestions as to what the issue may be and if it can be resolved?

mine is also horrendous, and I also have a very short drive. Connecting a hotspot and launching app and getting a song, takes just too long for me. I'm basically already at my destination by the time I get it up. My workaround was to do what you said, and get a bluetooth transmitter and sticking to the aux, because aux sounds fine, but just bluetooth over a2dp sounds so bad, and has this distorted high end sound. This solution worked for me for awhile, but the only downside is you don't get song information on the head unit to display, which is a tad annoying for me.
I've contacted my radios reseller, and they're just ridiculously helpless, all they do is keep sending me a "software" update to fix it, but it does nothing. I've been searching for over a year for a solution, but have found nothing to fix it, other than what I just said. Problem was still there even when I used custom roms. SO I don't really think its a software issue, maybe some kind of hardware I can replace or modify, but I just really have no clue.

And yes thats exactly whats annoying me not getting track info, may as well just use the original head unit if i get a bluetooth transmitter!! which transmitter did you get? i've got a really cheap basic one years old and its got a high pitched whining noise in between song skips so its there just muffled out by songs playing, I'm wondering if thats probably just a cheap receiver I've got..
I'll try get somewhere with the hardware see about a new bluetooth module but no idea on the interface would be total guess work and risky at that, not even sure how to safely root this one.
Other issues i'm having which may be common and you may know? I got a dash cam which cam with a yellow RCA, an Acc+ wire, a ground wire and a 12V wire.. i don't understand why its got an Acc+ and a 12V, i thought similar things both transmit power just one off the ignition being on only? theres no 12v out wire on the head unit except 'cam pow' which I've tried to no avail. I plan on recording direct to the SD card on the camera.
Subwoofer out, does this work on our units? i bought it because i plan adding a 4 channel amp for F/R speaks and a sub amp for a single sub.. but does the rca not work / no amplifier control over it?!

however, I do have a Seicane with Android 7.1 on the way that does have a PX3. I'll report back when i get it to see if I have any issues

Well the 6.0 version is totally different hardware
it is a known issue that no one seems to have a fix for. Im having this same issues with my PX5 Dasaita unit and had this issue on a previous Xtrons unit aswell. I believe it is a problem with the bluetooth drives not supporting the higher bitpools of recent bluetooth updates hence the bad quality. Ive even tried installing a USB bluetooth dongle but could not get the unit to recognize it.

Well I also have a Dasaita PX5 and I definitely didn't have a problem on that one. I would listen to Bluetooth audio on it pretty regularly.
Quick from Hot Audio did email me and ask about it, saying they had heard complaints, and sent me a new harness, but I haven't needed it

Well i've gone an ordered a car play dongle, so hopefully that will be a solution for good radio and a more functional nav at the same time.
Any tips for the dash cam guys? i ordered the 3 cable power one rather than a usb to keep the slots free.. not sure where i should hook them up to. (12V yellow, Acc+ red, black Grnd), i've only got an acc+ on the back of the harness and ground i made an earth wire to the car. Left the 12v off and it doesn't turn on. but my unit doesn't have a 12v, only acc+ or cam pow.

The seller said to connect acc+ to acc+ on the unit, 12v to the cars 12v and grnd to the cars ground. I made an earth for the ground just to a screw towards the rear inside of the dash, but not sure where i'll safely take 12v from? especially with the car having a can bus if i splice any wires that may cause an error? Surely these units put out a 12v signal somewhere?

Also another Q regarding using an external amplifier for speakers and a sub.. is there an issue with the actual volume sent to the amps and can this be resolved? depending what input i give the head unit the volume differs, aux a lot quieter than usb stick or bluetooth.. but even both of them at volume 30 neither are really very loud where you here the speakers distorting, with a standard radio or branded head unit towards top end the speakers would distort so i can set a 'safe' max limit, my concern is the android head unit will limit the amp? and i've seen no info on rooting these units for viper4audio if that would help.

Edit: how would i check if the 'cam-pow' wire is putting out 12v with a multimeter? just hold one probe to the wire and touch a ground point with the other?

Sorry to tell you, the ROMS are very stripped down and as a result, the only support will be for the listing of BT modules that are on the main board and only for the ones list in the setup. You will not be able to add an external usb BT module to the head unit, it will not reconize them, and therefor will not work. Same with other USB devices. All support has been stripped out of the firmware. Some of these company's are getting slick enough to modify the firmware even more to only support devices that they sell, locking you into buying there junk. Good Luck! I had a BT problem with a Seicane Head Unit, and tried every possible, BT usb module only to find out what they do. Anyone want to purchase BT usb modules cheap!!!!!!
