Silent Shutter Sound
Sollution to disable Shutter sound on your device:
*First of all download Resco Explorer ( http://www.resco.net/smartphone/explorer/default.asp )
Install this on your device.
*Record with the the standard voice-recorder in windows a wav-file without sound (so simply disable your microphone) make it 5 seconds to make sure it does not have any bad influence on your camera-application.
*Give this file a very simple name starting with an underscore or a number to have it on the top of your list (especially on smartphones the Windows folder is very very long for scrolling) Name it something like "_mute.wav"
* Copy this file from your PC to your device using your windows explorer, put this in the Windows folder on your device
* Now open Resco Explorer on your device, press "menu" , "options" , "browser" and uncheck the "Hide hidden files..." option
* Now browse on your device to the windows folder and locate your mute wav file, now choose "action" , "rename" and give the file the name of the standard shutter sound file (on a Samsung i320 it is "camera_shutter_1.wav" (please do not choose "camera_shutter_ 2.wav" or "camera_shutter_3.wav" because these are first played and afterwards you will get still the "camera_shutter_1.wav"-file)
* You now will get some alert-windows if you are sure etc. just press yes and then.... SILENT SHUTTER IS THERE!
This works for my Samsung i320 so I am pretty sure it works for all devices...

Well for Hermes devices this seems like a heck of a long way round when the camera has an option to turn shutter sound off!!
Mike
and on the phones that dont have the option in the app to turn off the shutter sound there is a reg hack to get rid of it as well...
Well, it's a bit old topic, but I have the same problem. I cannot disable the camera shutter sound! I have the HTC official Hermes WM6 ROM (3.54.255.3)
I've tried altering the HKLM\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\SoundFile key in registry,so that it points to nonexisting file, after that changing it to existing "silent" WAV, altering few other keys in registry (ForceShutterSound set to 0, ShutterSoundVolume to 1, after that to 0) even "force-renaming" my own WAV into \Windows\ShutterSound.wav... Nothing worked, there still is the sound, even if I switch the phone to silent mode. And of course, it can't be set in the Setting screen of Camera application. Anyone have an idea how to get rid of the sound? Isn't there a way to somehow "delete" the file, even if it has the flag "In ROM", and therefore can't be deleted by Total Commander (for example) ?
EDIT: By doing all of this, I have achieved, that the shutter is silent when the phone is in "Sound Off" or "Vibrate" mode... But it would be really nice if it could be disabled completely, even when in standard "Sound On" mode.

Sad thing is that this is actually true in Japan.....
Actually, now I have the capability of turning the sound off (by switching the phone to Vibrate mode), so if I really wanted to take upskirt pictures, I would be able to LOL
I want to disable the sound in "sound on" mode, because it is really annoying and because I just don't want someone else to dictate me what setting should I have enabled/disabled on MY phone, which I have paid for.
I found a nice neat way to refresh the media library (so the music list and gallery) without doing a reboot or having to mount the SD card to a computer.
You need BetterCut.
1) Open it and choose to make a new shortcut (tap no to the dialog)
2) Choose 'Activity'
3) Find 'Media Scanner' in the list and choose it
4) Rename or change the icon if you want (optional)
5) Tap create!
You can now run that shortcut to update the media on your phone whenever you move things around with a file manager or rename them for example.
To use it, just run it then press home and it will run in the background. Wait a bit for it to scan and you are all set. If you open the gallery straight after running it, you will notice it takes a long while to update but wait and it will load.
i do not see media scanner as an option under activity
you could also use the Media Scanner option in the Dev Tools app...
When opening a new app (snap seed photo editor) I was unable to get past this barrier. In short, it's caused in my case by MI pop app, which I like very much.
Solution: when it takes you to the screen to change permission, open menu to include system apps, then drop down to MI pop, click, and turn it off. Now snap seed opens like it should. I'm going to see if I can now enable it again and be OK. Hope this helps others frustrated abort this issue.

EDIT: That worked. I learned more after I had to reinstall apps after a factory reset: I opened all my apps briefly, then then went to the Mi pop enabling, and never had to do it again. At least, not until I install a new app...
It happened to me with different roms but i found a fix for it. Just install the app Open Camera, open it, then go to option -> video settings -> audio source -> set to "Default audio source". Now when you record video with Open Camera you won't see any noise in the background
So I basically installed a camera app from the store on my ASUS X00PD and noticed it works better than stock camera app so I often use that, but if I open the camera from the lockscreen shortcut in the bottom right, it opens the stock camera app.
I looked for a way to change the default camera or even disable the stock one (without root) but I was unable to.
Here is what i tried:
Go to settings - Security and lock screen - look for "App shortcuts" but there is none
Go to settings - Apps - defaults - no camera option here
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find stock camera app - Clear defaults - it's greyed out
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find stock camera app - try to disable the camera, it's greyed out
Go to settings - Apps - All Apps - find my new camera app - no option to set as default
Go to settings - Advanced - there is some option for Instant camera, but it's just for quick camera using volume buttons, but no option on which one to open
Uninstall new camera and re-install it or even install another random camera and try see if lockscreen shortcut asks me for default camera but doesn't
Deny stock camera app for "camera" permissions, but the only change is that it asks me for it again
Have someone managed to achive this feat? Maybe it's just me, but I can't really think of anything else...
