Hi all,
I noticed it is possible to use an animated GIF as an image using Photo Contacts.
The default animation when somebody calls (the yellow-orange phone image) seems an animated GIF to me, but I wasn't able to find it in the file system.
I thought, using this image as a Photo ID, I am able to increase the font size of the caller notification window used by Photo Contacts.
Does anybody knows where to find this image (if possible), or knows a good animated GIF replacement to use whith Photo Contacts?
the orginal files/gifs can be found at
\My Documents\IA Caller ID Photos
the .DEF files are renamed gif files...
Thanx alot!
font size
Can you tell us in details how you managed to change the caller id font size?
why not take a look here... and here...

Start menu > Programs > Photo Contacts
Then, for every contact, set the background image to whatever image (I renamed the CONTACTS.DEF file to a contacts.gif file), and associate every contact with this image.
Then you can specify the Caller ID format, including font, size and color
It is a workaround, but it works for me
Animated gif
I know this is an old thread but i am still using my xda 2s with windows 2003se.
i have installed photo contacts pro 5.8 and it is working welll but i am unable to get it to play any animated gifs.
Whenever i assign a photo it seems to change it to a jpg,Anybody got any advice,i have been searching for ages for an answer to this
If i install caller id by htc that will play gifs so i assuming its a problem with photo contacts pro.
Why is it that today screen images show up rather poor? They seem to be locked to 16-bit color instead of 32. The original image show up fine in the album but has visible shades when used as today. I read that the Theme Generator (from Microsoft) always locks em to 16-bit. Any ideas? Thanks.

The Magician can only show 16-bit colour i.e. 65536 colours. But I know what you mean about the today screen. I used theme generator and get the impression its using closer to 12 bits.

try to save your wallpaper in .gif 256 clrs 294*320, rename it to Default_stwater.gif and replace the default in /windows dir. Then, reset your today and all be fine!!!
I see. Almost forgot that the screen's only 16-bit. The problem is, the image showed up great on the Album, but displayed poorly when used as today (thru theme generator, image as wallpaper, etc.). GKill, I don't understand what you're talking about, but I'll try it out anyway. Thanks!

I am talking about replacing the standart windows wallpaper (blue with win. logo) that located in widows dir. This image you cant delete, but it is possible to replace it! TYou must search this .gif file (see above) and copy to your desktop, then open in photoshop. Make own wallpaper and save it with similar dimensions in .gif. Then replace, like I said and you will receive own designed wallpaper as windows default!!!
It is good because it suitable as for portrait, as for landscape modes!
Hey thanks! The pic looked better now but I just realized that today's are limited to 256 colors (GIFs)?? If so then is there any way to display 16-bit pics? Thanks!

Could someone help me with this: the gifs have only 256 indexed colours, so if you have a nice picture, like a sunset, the smooth gradient turns into bands or ugly pixels (dithering?). So how cannot one make the difference between a jpg and this horrible gif ? The jpg files are displayed OK in the album view. If I try to set one of these jpgs as desktop image it gets whitish like through a fog. How can I set a sunset without pixels or bands as the "desktop image". It seems so complicated ...Could someone please help ?

When converting in photoshop, set dithering options to "off" (no dither). remember that display in Magician is 65K. This means maximum colour depth is 16 bit. In any case, I'm using the 256 .gif pics with beautiful landscapes and it looks great! If you want, I can post here one...
No matter what .tsk file I use, when I use the option in the settings to display image as baccground. It's always grayed out which seriously makes the pic look crappy. I know I can just use a load of different .tsk files but I don't want to do it that way. I want to be able to change the baccgroud pic at anytime with having it smoked out with some gray transparent layer.
Is the a registry hacc I can do to stop it?
I don't know if there is a registry hack but at least, there is a workaround. Instead of using the today applet to select your background picture, you can use the Pictures & Videos app. Select the picture you like, there is a menu item to set a the selectted picture asToday background just set the transparency level at 0% and you are set
Thanks. Works perfectly.
Glad I helped, but actually you got me thinking. So, I tried to figure out if there was not a way of setting the transparency level via a registry hack as you suggested. I didn't find anything because it's not stored in registry.
What actually happens when you choose a background picture is that wm5 creates 2 pictures (stwater_240_320 and stwater_320_240) in the \windows folder. So instead of relying on the today applet or on the pictures and videos app, what you could do is delete these 2 pictures, then copy your homemade pictures in the \windows folder and rename theme to the above mentionned names. It should let us have a different image when in landscape mode instead of a cropped one. The 240_320 has to be 240x268 and the 320x240 340x188. Why 268 and 188 instead of 320 and 240 ? Because the taskbar and the menubar are 26 pixels wide and (2x26) + 268 = 340 !
i noticed that when i take a picture through footprints the pic size is large and i can not even change it manually. i would like to have it set at 3MP my default. does anyone know how to do that? thanks
up up and away
Can someone check what the typical size of a photo file is (4:3 12m, auto settings)?
Thanks.
Hello, with motion pictures enabled the size of a photo is +/- 10Mb, without this option the size is +/- 3Mb.
