Re-enabling compass on Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS Ultra - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason Mobvoi decided to disable the compass sensor in their January update. Some rumors say Google asked them to, others say it was interfering with some other sensor (hr or oxymeter...) Regardless I'm very upset as the compass is crucial for me. I really don't care about any fitness or health sensing in my watch, I want to use it for trail running and climbing.
I've read that a factory reset would reenable the sensor, but I'm afraid this would only last as long as the update gets pushed again.
Is anyone aware of a hack to either re-enable the sensor or prevent updates from being pushed without an approval from me (the user)?

I also have the Ticwatch Ultra and am p.o. that the compass no longer works. I did a factory reset the other night and it is still disabled.

Same problem for me, the compass is not working anymore !!!

Just got the Ticwatch 3 Ultra. I haven't seen a compass on it. (Can't say it's there before the update I immediately became)
On Mobvoy's website they don't say the watch comes with a magnetic sensor. Dit the compass just use gps?

[Q] Barometer Sensor

I noticed a few days ago that the Nexus 4 came with a barometer sensor that is used to help the GPS accuracy. I decided to test this out using Barometer HD. It worked great and allowed me to save my pressure data.
However, the past two days it's been saying "No barometer sensor detected". Thinking this was GPS related I tried turning it on, but no luck. I ran Z - Device Test and it says I do not have the sensor either.
Anyone know what's going on?

Help | Galaxy s4 sensors not working

Hi all,
I have a i9500 phone.
I have this firmware installed onto my phone
I9500XXUEMJ5_I9500ODDEMJ5_I9500DDUEMJ5_HOME
2 days ago i got a push update, and then i updated my phone.
And then i see that automatic rotate isn't working, because the shealth walking mate wasn't counting the steps.
So i tried rotating my phone didn't work.
I did *#0*# to check the sensors and see that
Accelerometer sensor is showing 0 for everything
Proximity Sensor same
Barometer Sensor same
Light sensor working
Gyroscope Sensor same showing 0
Magnetic sensor same showing 0
I did a hard reset and didn't solve my problem, i then flashed the same firmware again and still didn't work.
Can you guys help me out?
Can't go to samsung tech since i didn't buy the phone their store and i'm from south america (Country Suriname) also

I tried to flash the latest version of arrow rom, and all the sensors worked for like 5 minutes then it stopped again.
I flashed the same rom again and same thing happening again.

Gyroscope not properly calibrated

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could reproduce my problem as I'm pretty sure is a software issue and not a hardware one, I've find some other people in the same situation and I've notified Huawei but I'm still waiting for their response.
The gyroscope is not working properly, not in any VR app in the play store or in google camera when I try to make a photo sphere.
Just open any app that uses the gyroscope and see if it is working at all.
Hope your answer. Thanks in advance.

i'm having this problem since I UPDATED my phone but before the upgrade i could play any 360 video and i could use my VR Headset with my P8 Lite (L21) but after the update (B133) my gyroscope stopped working :/ i hope they fix it because now i can't watch any 360 video :/
There are many video on youtube showing how to calibrate gyroscope. While holding the phone in a certain manner, you must describe with your forearm a 3D 8 in the space slowly. After half a dozen of turns, your gyroscope is calibrate with gravity force.
Cheers
it didn't work
Same problem here, after upgrading the software for ALE-L21C75B0146
Before I was able to watch 360 videos on Youtube by moving the phone.
Now I can't. I have to touch screen.
I am pondering downgrading to V100R001C75B045.

I already tried those apps to calibrate de gyroscope but it isn't working.
Huawei email me back with the usual factory reset crap. That's their brilliant solution.
No gyroscope on p8lite
Or either Huawei P8 lite does not have Gyroscope or they turned it off. I bought mine with the lollipop and does not seem to have gyroscope. Also Huawei p8 lite specification does not list Gyroscope as available sensors which it does in P8's
Around firmware B13X they shut off the the Gyro, though for me it returned with B170 albeit still a bit touchy
i know it does not have a gyro but ahh ... when i had the B130 update i could watch 360 video but with the B133 and B171 update ... i can't :/ my VR headset is useless because of this :/ and this is annoying :/
I bought my p8 lite six days ago and I also have this problem. I tried to make 3D shots with google maps, but it says I don't have gyroscope. This is really annoying. ?
Is there any solution for this problem already????
P8 lite doesn't have a real gyroscope
OK. Maybe it doesn't have a hardware gyroscope and it was solved by a virtual gyro / sensor fusion.
Will it come back with android 6.0?
Is anyone here who know this hardware in depth to check the real built-in sensors? Maybe it's just disabled to make P8 lite weaker in opposite of P8.
Or someone who can make a virtual gyro for it? There's detailed descriptions on the net how to calculate gyro data from accelerometer and magnetic sensor. (But it's a bit tough for me)
For example:
github.com/memsindustrygroup/Open-Source-Sensor-Fusion/wiki/Virtual%20Gyro
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Huawei-P8-lite,Huawei-P8/phones/9358,9127
Under other feuatures you will se that P8 Lite doesnt have gyroscope at all
Hey guys,
Good news. Even though the gyro is not present in P8 Lite, it can be virtualized using the Magnetic Sensor and the Accelerometer. (Senses movement + Direction = A function of a Gyro).
Guys on the HTC Mania managed to figure it out and fix it! So you can watch 360 youtube videos, etc.

(You will need to translate the page though)
Happy days!
great news man, thx for sharing
If you don't want to translate, or just to lazy to check out the site, i'll post the steps here:
You can only do the steps below, if you have a rooted phone, and downloaded THIS file.
Steps:
Download the file, I've linked up above.
Open up a file explorer with root permissions (I recommend Root Explorer)
Copy the downloaded file to this location: /system/etc/permissions
If done, set the permissions to rw-r--r-- (0644)
Click OK, and restart your phone
You're done. However, based on feedbacks on this, and the HTCMania forum, this will only work on Android 6.0.
I'm currently on 5.0.1, and after doing this, the Cardboard icon appeared in Youtube while playing a °360 video, but it wasn't working well. Rotating the phone with large motions made only a very small, and slow reaction on the phone's image itself.
So if somebody tried this with 6.0 please report back with the results, if it's working well, partially or not at all.
Edit:
In the meantime, a factory reset was on schedule, because my phone got very slow, and I updated to 6.0, and enabled the "VR support".
I can say, that it is working, the phone does respond to movement, somewhat like it should with the gyroscope. I think it's a bit delayed, and not as much accurate as the gyroscope would be, but yes, it definitely works, for sure.
The tutorial in original language can be found HERE.
Its working perfect
I have ALE-L21. Currently on version ALE-L21C432B524 Android 6.0.
Just did what advised by @daviddosa in previous post. And now I can watch 360 movies on Youtube and can play VR Games on my mobile.
Thanks for this wonderful trick.
Best Regards!

Hhi daviddosa
Can you explain what you mean by 'enable vr support' ?

Problems with gyroscope and VR

Has anyone had problems with the gyroscope in vr applications?
The compass works very slow. And vr applications are not able to move the screen with the movement of the phone.
Any way to calibrate the compass or gyroscope?. Anyone else has happened?

i dont use vr, but a lot gps navigacion,i install gps esencial from play store and its giving me under 20 ft precision mostli al the time, but google maps its get lost a lot, somtimes an error of 1000 to 3000 ft. im thinking is software problem not hardware. other navigators go beter but still get lost somtime. my motorola G first generacion is a crack, never lost.
There is a known issue with the gyroscope being non functional . There is a fix in the latest OTA formware update which came out last night. I've just updated and thingsseem ok.

Make sure you are on the 20161215 firmware release and retest.

Orientation sensors not available

Has anyone solved a case of the acceleration/orientation gyros not working? It happened sometime before I rooted (LS995 on 12A) so that wasn't the cause, or at least the original one, and I've also tried the reStock kernel so far. Most notably the screen no longer rotates into landscape but I've also lost functions associated with orientation, compass, or accelerations like a level in a geolocation camera app. Using gpsstatus.apk to diagnose the sensors, it says they are not on the device.
Suggestions short of a factory reset?
