Orientation sensors not available - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Has anyone solved a case of the acceleration/orientation gyros not working? It happened sometime before I rooted (LS995 on 12A) so that wasn't the cause, or at least the original one, and I've also tried the reStock kernel so far. Most notably the screen no longer rotates into landscape but I've also lost functions associated with orientation, compass, or accelerations like a level in a geolocation camera app. Using gpsstatus.apk to diagnose the sensors, it says they are not on the device.
Suggestions short of a factory reset?

How to fix magnetometer

I just fixed the magnetometer on my Vibrant, using advice found on another site. It took me a long time to find it, so I thought I should post it here to help other Vibrant users find it more easily. There is similar advice in forums for other Galaxy S variants, but nothing here.
About a week ago, I noticed that my phone was no longer sensing its position. The screen would not rotate, and the compass was not working. I ran the sensor test using the *#0*# code, and both the accelerometer and magnetic sensor were stuck on one reading regardless of phone position. Rebooting had no effect.
I found the following procedure on a different site. I would post the link to give proper credit, but I don't have sufficient forum privileges because this is my first post. It was on the dp.nonoo.hu blog.
Your Samsung Galaxy S phone’s compass is not working? Auto rotation is faulty? Check your hardware by dialing *#0*# – this is a factory test app for the phone.
If the compass is broken there too, here’s how you can fix it: delete /data/system/ms3c_yamaha.cfg, and if there’s a backup file, delete it too, then reboot.
If it won’t help, make sure the files are deleted and then run /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha from a root shell, follow the instructions and then reboot your phone.
I deleted the file using RootExplorer and rebooted. The accelerometer and magnetic sensor were working perfectly.
Lol I fixed mine by simply flipping the phone a few times. Basically I first downloaded and installed the compass app from the market. Then in the app, I calibrate it normally (wave in a figure 8 pattern) a few times. It will still be pointing incorrectly so next all I do it flip the phone on it's vertical axis a few times then repeat with the horizontal axis. Then it will be correct. This always works for my phone, I do it every time after a factory reset since it uncalibrates the magnetometer every time. I've never had problems with the accelerometer though, only the magnetometer. It would always be out of whack no matter what until I figured out what to do.
Cheers Blue,
This fixed it for me.
I cannot find neither the .cfg fila and or the configuration app.
+1
These files do not exist in ICS AOKP on my Vibrant and my magnetometer still points in the wrong direction lol.
Trying everything I can find on the Internet.
Edit: Removing the battery does not work even after 15 minutes. However, flipping the phone end over end worked immediately. Seems strange that this is not mentioned by any of the Compass apps yet they tell you to draw figure 8's in the air which does nothing on my Vibrant. lol
Thanks to the individual who shared that tip.
same here, a few vertical and horizontal flips did the trick for me. (on ics passion)
Didn't find the "/data/system/ms3c_yamaha.cfg" on my GalaxyS running Slim ICS 3.2. Seems like ICS doesn't have this file. And some vertical/horizontal flips almost did the trick. Now the compass is moving, before it wasn't moving at all. It not showing very good direction like it used to when I first purchased the device almost 15 months ago.
And one more question, does anyone know, what is the testing code for ICS? Because *#0*# isn't working on ICS. I used this code while on gingerbread and it worked before. I thought this code is universal, but now it seems like, its not.

1. Doest it still work when the phone is:
- touched with a little magnet like in a standard vertical flip-case (with little magnet) or
- travelling by car/bus/train or
- plugged in headphones
In the one I had (I don't have it any more) while plugging in headphones, or travelling by car/bus/train, or putting it in an flip-case with a little magnet the arrow In Google Maps pointing the direction which a device is currently facing simply freezes. Compass app also freezes at the same time. The app called Android Sensor Box in the scale for magnetometer reaches its maximum level. While moving the little magnet, from mentioned before filp-case, around a phone the arrow travels with it. Move it away and it freezes. It simply won't move. While sticking S4 to the metal part of laptop table the arrow immediately points opposite direction. Only making 8s in the air helps but only for a bit. Neither S3 9305 nor S5 have this problem. Even when stuck with a magnet their arrows in GM works just fine.
2. Does deleting the file fixes the GM's arrow issue also?

Auto-rotate not working

Hi, today suddenly my phone didn't rotate the screen anymore when I rotated the phone to landscape. I had auto-rotate on. This problem had stayed for a while now and I have already rebooted my phone as well as turned off and on auto-rotate. I know the accelerometer is working because I used apps that use the accelerometer, so my guess is it's done software bug. I think it had happened before to me but briefly and it somehow got fixed. I'm wondering if this has happened to someone else and how you fixed it. Thanks!

If u were referring to it auto rotating in the home screen, the stock launcher doesn't not do it
No not the home screen, any screen (browser, Facebook, mail, etc..)

Try an app called ultimate rotate to force rotation in apps as a test

Way to read the OP.
This just happened to me....I have auto-rotate checked in accessability and display...any help would be appreciated.
Happening to me now as well. Not sure whats causing it :-/
Auto Rotate
It is happening to me as well.
I don't know if it pertains to you or no as mine is rooted and it does only on AOKP Rom.
For now what I had is to install Screen Orientation app. It lets you toggle Forced Portrait / Forced Landscape mode from notification bar.
And i have checked auto rotation enable in settings.
Open Instagram, it forces portrait..
help
This is happening to me right now but much worse, I've toggled, rebooted, wiped, reflashed, flashed old backups, different kernels, different roms I was originally running AOKP with faux kernel and my auto-rotate had been working fine then I downloaded temple run and I couldn't tilt from side to side, I would re-calibrate but every sensor app I download says that my; Accelerometer, compass, light sensor, proximity sensor, temp, gyroscope, gravity sensor, linear acceleration, and rotation vector sensor don't even exist, the apps say there not there. I have no idea what more to do to reset them or fix them, they were all working fine before and then they just stopped.
Any ideas or information would be appreciated, the last thing I'm going to try is a full Odin flash back to stock everything (if that is even available yet for the nexus 4)

i read something about losing sensors by using the 4.2.2 radio With a 4.2.1 Rom. anyways it's a documented issue. try going through the 4.2.2 threads. i believe that's where i saw it mentioned.
EDIT: here it is!

smacking it worked
read on another forum that "a decently hard smack" would correct it.
they were right, Its working again.
solved mine
in my case, it was an app called gravity screen. uninstalled it, reboot phone, and the auto rotate is enabled now

[Q] Sensors no longer functioning

Hey guys,
This is my first Samsung after multiple HTCs, so this has really annoyed me... I preordered from Orange back in April, so I've had it since release. Everything was fine, though the battery life was far from perfect.
In the last week, maybe two, I noticed that the screen wasn't turning properly. Then it was stuck on the right side, whenever I turned on Screen Rotation. After 4 restarts, it just does nothing. I tried wiping and starting again, but to no avail...
I've also been into the *#0*# menu and under Sensors, the Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Magnetic selftests all fail. I thankfully don't play any games that require them, but taking photos is stuck to landscape and I can't view them in landscape on my phone...
Any theories?
same problem here mate!
Rooted, installed CWM recovery, fooled around with some Google Edition Roms and now I`m on the same problem.
Out of the blue, the sensor stoped working!
Flashed my original ROM with Odin and that didn`t work.
And background of the recovery (now original) the android has a red triangle and he is lying flat.
Everything else is working...
Someone plz help!
I'm sorry about how this sounds, but I'm glad it's not just me!
I didn't try rooting yet, so it's not related to that. I'm going to call Samsung (no web support...) Tomorrow if I get a chance.
Had yours overheated a few times beforehand? I'm wondering if the sensors are ruined by the heat...
Not sure if it is the heat...
My GS3 was always hot when using! And everything was fine for more than a year.
Your light sensor is working?
Mine is not working either.
To be more precise:
Accelerometer, Proximity, Barometer, Light, Gyroscope, Magnetic, Gesture and Temp-Humid
all of the Sensors of the *#0*# test
=/
Nope, light sensor doesn't recognise when I'm in a call and put it to my ear, or remove it... It senses nothing.
Today I unstalled the 3D Image live wallpaper app (since it uses the Gyroscope) and restarted the the phone, every sensor was up and running again.
So I installed the 3D Image live wallpaper again and after a while the sensors stopped again.
So I unstalled again and rebooted the phone again and... Nothing! This seens to be completly random.
Do you use any Gyroscope 'intensive' app?
I factory reset my handset and nothing, so it's not an app or wallpaper I'm using. After the restore I used the Internet Browser to check the screen rotation, nothing.
I've a similar problem here... the sensors sometimes doesn't work, sometimes does work, it's random. Already tried to restore factory defaults and many different FWs, always with this same behavior....
My S4 has only 3 weeks, and it came like this, but I took some time to identify the problem...
I have the same problem, I tried factory reset several times, changed the FW for all available versions and the problem continues. In my case the only difference is that the sensors operate for a maximum of 30minutes after I reboot the phone and then stop again.
Has anything else happened like getting water near the phone in order for sensors to not work..
Or the phobe fell down?

Can the problem due to the installation of a third-party launcher like Nova or Apex? When using these launcher, none of the sensors work. When back to the default TW launcher, some work while others not working.
Is this a bug?

I used stock Touchwiz. My sensors suddenly stopped working. I did a hard reset and problem still existed. Today I will get my phone from repair and post some more info.
Using the *#0*# test mode, all functions are working. However, some of the sensors are working like hit-and-run state. Wondering should I bring it down to the service center.
Got my SGS4 today and flashed it to GE ROM. Everything woks fine, but I tried taking a picture with Photosphere and it kept on drifting off.
I guess that means I have a similar problem. Will test Service menu later today...
OK, Service Menu does not work on GE edition ROM...but I found a little app called Sensor Test for free on the PlayStore and it shows all sensors working fine with the exception of the accelerometer...that gives nonsense values...
It does sound like a fault with hardware not software or anything you have done so you should be able to walk into the orange store or [insert carrier retail store here] and they should replace it as long as your under contract at least thats how it works here in the uk with the sales of goods act
Okay. Strange things. I only habe severe problems in Photosphere. Flashed a different ROM and service menu dass all OK.
GPS toolbox looks OK with the compass ticking slightly to the right, then jerking back. Needs More research...
Update: I flashed back to a 4.2.2 ROM (also Google Edition) and now my problem seems to be gone...
Are you all on 4.3 or do some of you use 4.2 ROMs?
Update2: Turned out to be coinsidence...drifting started in 4.2.2 as well. I then tried my trust old Galaxy Nexus and saw that it also drifts now. I'm completely confused...
Got my S4 back from repair center. They replaced the main board and now everything appears to be working ok.

Got mine back, too (Germany, datrepair.de). Don't know what they changed, but it's still not functioning. So disappointed...
Hey i just had the same issue, suddenly (nothing happened, i was playing some game, not even with heavy graphics or anything) and when i was back to my home screen i noticed the auto rotation doesn't work, after i tried rebooting and taking out the battery i re-flashed my omega rom and still, nothing.
In the sensors test they all fail.
Is there anything else other than sending it to repair?
I mean did anyone succeeded in repairing that issue with some simple means?
Thanks!
i had the exact same problem
i claimed warranty, still waiting

[Q] Help! AutoRotate stopped working!

Okay so im running rooted stock rom and from out of nowhere yesterday my autorotate stopped working. I also notice that my phone is no longer counting any steps via S health. I ran tests and all my sensors are functioning properly and even the icons in the camera app rotate when i change my phones orientation however nothing else will rotate automatically.
Anyone have any experience with this or something similar? I'm totally lost here and desperately avoiding a factory wipe, Any help would be much appreciated

Did you ever fix this? Same thing just happened to me. If I need landscape orientation, I have to switch to youtube, start a video, maximize it (which forces landscape), then switch apps back where I was.
Thanks,

Camera Problem: autofocus reacts only after longer rest

Got a new Note 4 SM-N910C after I replaced my old, as it had display issues (same model). Old and new phone are running 5.0.1., both are rooted. I restored all apps and data from the old phone on the new via Titanium-Backup.
When I open the carema app, or ANY other camera app on the new phone, it won't focus for approximateli 10-15 seconds - afterwards autofocus works snappy and accurately. When I close the camera app and reopen it, sometimes the autofocus reacts immediately, sometimes I have to wait again. After a longer period in which i did not use the camera, the initial lag always occurs.
Same issue when I use the test mode (#0# - Mega cam). In compairison the old model always works perfectly!
Resetting the camera app does not fix the issue. "Shaking" the phone does not fix the issue.
Does anyone know that issue, does anyone hab a suggestion how to solve the problem. I don't know whether this is a hardware (stuck af-motor??) or a software problem.
I thank you for every answer and suggestion in advance.
Are you on the stock ROM now?
Yes, everythin is stock.. just rooted via CF autoroot..
Did you have this problem before you rooted the device?

It's a hardware problem, the camera lens abit loose. Some tried shaking it but only a temporary fix. Bring it to Samsung Service Centre for repair (if still have warranty). Mine had that problem and was fixed by Samsung.
Update:
I restored the device's factory settings, i.e. Recovery - Full Wipe, and flashed the Lollipop 5.0.1. stock rom via Odin. I did not not restore the camera app usting Titanium Backup.
The error still exists. Shaking the device causes no improvement at all and there are no strange noises during focusing detectable. I suspect that it is therefore definitely not a hardware failure.
.. Once again the error description:
If I do not use the camera for some minutes and open any camera app (e.g. native app, instagram, PS-express, whatsapp, Google Kamera, camera pro and also in the test mode (# 0 # - Mega Cam)) the picture is totally blurry and the focus seems to stay in the macro focus. When I try to set the focus point by touching the screen, the focus indicator appears but the focus does not change for approximately 10 seconds (again, in all camera modes and camera apps). After this "initial lag" the camera works perfectly fine. When I close my camera and open it after a short time, it focuses immediately. When I close my camera and open it after a longer time, initial lag occurs again.
This is extremely annoying.
I suspect that the system deactivates the camera ("deep sleep") so when opening the camera a full "initialization" (i.e. error checking, etc.??) is done every time. According to the Application Manager however, the camera app is active and uses the system's Ram when the lag occurs!
Can anyone - under 5.0.1. - confirm this behavior?
Again, I am very grateful for any kind of help and suggestions!
How difficult is replacing the camera? Is it simple?
