Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) SM-J730F - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

Hey!
I need a ROM for this. I tried LineageOS but I couldn't find one. Is there something that removes the bloatware from Samsung and just leaves Android and Gapps?
I'm currently using LineageOS for Motorola G4 Play and it works ok. Sometimes the 4G will have issues when I leave Wifi and I have to make a call to "unlock" 4G, but I think it's mostly due to the phone being like 5 years old.

I had a look in https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/samsung-galaxy-j7-2017-roms-kernels-recoveries.6631/
and saw this which might be debloatable without losing GApps.

I haven't checked, but the chances of a tweaked Samsung OS supporting VoLTE would likely be much higher than an AOSP OS.
Just make sure the software matches the device exactly.

Hehe, I'm lost completely here. LineageOS was simple because it had clear steps, with these I'm not sure I even understand. Maybe someday there will be something I can use. I don't wanna brick my phone

LineageOS is simpler, especially if your Samsung is officially supported because you can simply use the included LineageOS custom recovery to install LineageOS system. J7 2017 isn't officially supported though. That means you'll need to seek out a different custom recovery such as TWRP from https://twrp.me/Devices/Samsung/
Then seek out a custom ROM which is exactly for your device variant from the ROMS page https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/samsung-galaxy-j7-2017-roms-kernels-recoveries.6631/
By the way, make sure you know exactly which J7 2017 you have. There are a few types.

[Q] SPH-L720T Official Lollipop Could it be Ported to SPH-L720

Since the L720TVPUCOD1 Lollipop rom is out now what's the chance someone could port it to work on the OG Samsung Galaxy S4 (L720) sprint has pissed a lot of people off that own the L720 (Like myself) that they updated the spark version before the non spark version
Zero, OTAs can't be ported. Just be patient, newer phones get updated first every time.

I guess you didn't see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262381&page=15
OD1 was pulled. OD2 is coming out for both the 720 and 720T
RDFs just mean they are testing builds, nothing has been released.

I guess what I meant to say is if it would be possible to use the base of the spark ota ROM and modify, root, etc to make it work on the l720

Again no. The RDFs have started for the L720 as well so you have nothing to worry about, we should get it about the same time as them. Nothing has been released yet anyways. It will take a few weeks for it to get rooted, deodexed, etc.
OD1 for the 720T was initiially on Sprint's OS upgrade page but was pulled by Sprint even though source code for OD1 still remains on Samsungs Open Source Release Center website. At any rate, neither version is in site even though AT&T has had their 5.0 for 2 weeks now It's very sad when AT&Y beats out any other carrier with an OTA update.

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G901F U1CRH1 help

G'day,
Let me start by saying that, I'm a noob and mind blown by the number of different roms and mods you can do. I am trying to find the best suitable rom for my mother android device, I have looked into the lineageOS and the resurrection remix and they look great! I have tried to look at more however too much information for me to absorb. I have read about the issues regarding the battery consumption issues( not too worried). What I am wondering If I want to go for the resurrection remix 5.8.5 which runs on Android 7.1.2(reason its stable release, as I've read), what version of Gapps would I require? the latest or an older version? I am seeking some guidance on flashing the roms and what could be the best approach for me. I'll also attach some images from CPU-Z on the phones hardware and model numbers if it helps.
before I finish, I would like to thank everyone for their contributions and for helping me out

Hey, first off im pretty sure resurrection remix is for G900F (klte) model which is different from what you have G901F (kccat6) model.... therefore you should exclusively look for a cusom rom for G901F otherwise you would end up with a bricked phone and an empty pocket since you'll have to buy your mom a nee phone ?

Thanks for the reply, I've been looking at the lineageos which seems to fit my requirements, the loader would be twrp and make a backup of the device before doing anything?

Yup, always do backup first in case it doesnt boot or anything, also what i do is always have an official FW in your computer so you have an option to flash official FW in case something goes wrong with the backup. GL ?

You can't roll back to something that didn't exist, the phone released on Pie.
There were Oreo roms for the OP6, so you may actually have some hope. That's what I would try. Considering OP6 ROMs work on the OP6T with a few caveats, you may find the Oreo based ones do as well. Just realize you are going to be giving up the fingerprint sensor at a minimum.
There won't be any development based on Oreo op6 ROMs, or he'll have to learn to Dev himself.
I can assure you that a man can live without Xposed (it's probably the reason to Oreo craving)
Hey just curious if you tried flashing the stock or any custom OP6 ROMs onto your 6T? I want to upgrade my OP to a 6T but need supported xPosed and modules . I doubt any Oreo ROMS would have much of the drivers and supporting files for all the hardware in the 6T, but maybe you could see what doesn't work and add it in form the Pie ROM.

You don't need Oreo for Xposed there's a version of Xposed for pie called edxposed look it up it should be what you're looking for
There are no sources for Oreo specific to op6t. And there are Xposed forks working on pie for what it's worth. Android Q will land in a few weeks there is really no reason to use an old outdated os on a new phone, mainly for security reasons.

[Redmi7A] I hate MIUI, what options do I have ?

Hello,
I use a Lenovo K6 Power and though it has some issues, i love the stock android on this device. I recently got a Redmi 7A and I like the hardware it offers, WIFI Calling, dual 4G VoLTE standby but absolutely hate the MiUI.
Can you please suggest me if its possible to remove MiUI from my device.
I would like to install the original stock android like in my Lenovo K6 Power or something close to it.
I am aware it may void my warranty.
Cons about MiUI:
#1 auto brightness is either too dark or too bright.
#2 certain apps run out of the screen [refer to screenshot]
#3 notification sounds are different every time
#4 bloatware
Thanks for your help.
[if this is in the wrong section/sub-forum, kindly advise where to post this]

Hi there!
You have several options in the forum:
1. Mokee: i tried both the Android Q and Pie versions and Q worked better for me, with Pie i couldn't play audio and with Q i couldn't play audio sometimes
2. LineageOS: the last time i tried it it still had audio issues, couldn't make calls, i don't know if it still works
3. GSI roms: roms for treble enabled devices, such as ours. I'm currently using a lineageos 17.1 treble rom and so far has been working pretty good, the only thing i haven't tried yet are voip calls but i think they will work.
4. PhantomOS: not available yet but i'm eager to try it out, it's a modified MIUI and hopefully development flourishes.
5. Debloat stock MIUI: if none of the above work for you you can atleast debloat and root your device, the best way to debloat it is with XiaomiADBFastbootTools and root with magisk
Anyone of these options are way better than MIUI in terms of multitasking, battery and smoothness, at least in my opinion.
Hope that helps!
Or just get rid of the device like I did (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-7a/help/quick-questions-miui-11-t4081701) and get something better.
Another option if you can still live with the MIUI 11 bloat is to use a different launcher.

Question LineageOS ?

hi everyone,
anyone here waiting for LineageOS to be available on this Device ?

Yep, OG Cyanogenmod and LineageOS user.
But as of now, Lineage haven't confirmed anything yet apart from Paranoid Android.
Nobody is going to confirm or deny anything. It might show up or it might not.
As I wrote in this post, with the exception of Paranoid Android with this tweet, LineageOS has not announced anything about support for the Phone(1).
Then the Phone(1) still lacks reliability and stability in its OS, so I think that until the OS is stabilized, the devs will wait.
We have to be patient.
Can we just flash GSI image?
i know Havoc OS provides GSI images

Many custom ROM distributions offer official GSI targets. You can also opt for unofficial builds. You can flash most of them through the Fastboot interface; a custom recovery like TWRP is not a mandatory prerequisite.
If you want to fiddle with GSIs on your Nothing Phone 1, first download the appropriate stock ROM for your model so that you can easily restore the factory firmware. Next, take a look at this index and grab a GSI of your choice.

Thanks a lot for clearing the doubt. I'll definitely take a look and compare whether it's worth losing the nothing phone's stock interface and glyphs over a fast and an always updated OS ..
