Hi, new to the forum and hoping someone can help. We recently purchased Walmart's ONN 8" gen 2 tablet (model 100011885) and tried to hardwire connect it to our TV. Didn't work. I can't find detailed specs for this tablet online anywhere. Does anyone know if this tablet supports alt mode via the USB-C port so we can connect to our TV?

I have been looking at the specs for this as my first tablet and one thing i saw was that there is no HDMI out ... Now this seems like a pretty important feature that i really think it should include. so if it doesn't ... well that'd suck
No HDMI out on the 10.1v.
I don't know about the 10.1 though.
-EDIT-
It may support HDMI out through the proprietary port in the future, since it can output a video signal from there.
Are we talking about 10.1v or the new one?
I haven't really looked in to 10.1v too much but as far as i can remember it did not have HDMI out.
10.1 got MHL standard port that got USB 3.0 and HDMI capability. I would have prefered HDMI out but this is not at least total propieraty. Got a actually check how much exactly are there existing stuff for the MHL.
I think i would go 10.1 not V ... also would have to go the ipad route and get some weird adapter ?
As per the specs, even the 10.1 doesn't have HDMI out

As you can't use HDMI, mini-HDMI right out of the box, yes will most probably need some adapter.
Though MHL is just not some proprietary thingie thought by the great heads of Samsung so hopefully we would see cheap docks, cables or adapters.
Here's wiki page about the MHL.
I'm kind of a between with this. The port itself looks like a great thing, but it's just so new that there doesn't seem to be much stuff out for it yet.
Well, the MHL will work out fine for me since the evo 3d also has the MHL port

HDMI/Charging Dock
Back in March at the Samsung Event at CTIA Orlando one of the accessories mentioned was an HDMI/Charging dock. The 10.1 Tab will not have a HDMI port. Only port on the unit will be microSd or SIM slot when 3G version is released.
Another accessory mentioned was the USB/SD card reader adapter.
I guess we will have to wait until May 24th with the Samsung event in NYC.
Here's the video of the keynote address by Samsung.

IDK About the 24th, I feel like this will have something to do with a Kindle tablet or a new Nook Color. But I'd love to have more on the 10.1
EDIT: Now that I think about it, won't that be the day before the pre-order opens? Most people don't know about the 10.1, so it wouldn't surprise me if Sammy tried to get tons of press for the 10.1, along with launching a new TV campaign after the event. I just tweeted Samsung USA about possibly having more on the 10.1
EDIT 2: Re-Watched the video, he mentions an accessory that adds HDMI out.
10.1 v has the same connector as the Galaxy Tab 7" . For the galaxy tab 7" you can get a dock with a HDMI out. Maybe a similar dock will be made available for the 10.1v
Hi I have given my grandfather my old galaxy note 10.1 and he wants to be able to share media from the tablet screen to the TV will chromecast work for this?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
same question........Has anyone actually sent their 10.1 (2012) screen to their TV via Chromecast?
The literature indicates this should work. If so, how well does it work?
Any info appreciated.
Hi... Ihavethe s5 and the N8010.
Works for phone but not the tablet, the option isn't there in the chromecast app.
Just get an allshare dongle. Its the same premise, however the allshare can mirror everything on screen. Not just youtube and netflix. They should be about 50 on amazon
I use an allshare at home and we use them in every classroom at my school (every student and staff member has a galaxy note 10.1). At home I use my allshare with a S4, note 3, note 4, galaxy note 10.1 2012 edition, galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition, galaxy tab 2 7.0 and nexus 7 they all work out of the box. Just like z31k said it mirrors the whole device not just certain apps. I went to best buy and had them price match amazon to get the price down to $50 that way I didn't have to wait for shipping

Samsung's Allshare Cast dongle is easiest option but it is possible to get Chromecast doing that too. Screencast/-mirroring option is available in Chromecast by default only for small set of devices but it actually works in many other devices too including Note 10.1 (2012). You can find app from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193 that enables screencast in all devices. It works fine in Note 10.1 but requires rooting. How well mirroring itself works depends on how fast your wifi router is. If you use mirroring to stream local media from tablet to TV it works quite ok but streaming HD video from internet to tablet and simultaneously mirroring it from tablet to Chromecast does not work so well for me.
I was shopping for a Shield TV on Amazon UK for a few days and suddenly today there's a message:
"Currently unavailable. - We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."
Could there be a new model coming down the pipe?

More probable that it's not been a good seller and they're stopping selling it?
I would think that if a new model was this close then there would have been announcements or at least rumours.
It came back on Amazon UK again... but it doesn't have the extra free controller (two total) like Nvidia.com is selling for the same price.
In any event, I just ordered a Wetek Core for $112 which I reckon will do the trick for me. It's powerful enough for Kodi and comes with a decent remote. It will replace my Roku 3 (I've been a Roku user from day one).
Nvidia should give people a choice between games controller, remote or nada - they'd sell far more Shield TV boxes.
I've never played games in my life so the thought of being stuck with a games controller and paying more for a remote just turned me off.
Plus, the Shield TV has been out for about a year now - I'd expect a new model within a few months.

The two game pads are a promotion that finishes on the 1st of May. Stores like Ebuyer and Scan are honouring it in the UK...I bought my Shield TV just over a month ago when the remote was bundled free on promotion. Honestly the remote isn't all that and is overpriced in my opinion....even if people don't want the extra pad being bundled, it shouldn't be hard to sell on to recoup cash on the initial purchase.
I'm sure you did your homework before buying. I've read many reviews and most don't really do the device justice....many mention the remote as being needed but neglect to mention the CEC compatibility (use the actual television remote) or the free apps available for smartphones to control Android TV or Kodi. Yes the "gaming chops" of the Shield TV are often mentioned but I'm still confident I bought the better hardware...it's actually Android TV that lets the device down. Many people are using Kodi and 3rd party addons to use ITV Player, which is crazy as they should have android apps available for the device.
With the update to Marshmallow it's actually more cost effective to buy the 16GB model and add your own storage (MicroSD or USB HDD) . These promotions surprise me as I figured Nvidia would need to bundle extra "goodies" for the Pro version to entice people to purchase that model.
I wouldn't be so sure about a new device so soon. I felt the same about the Shield tablet, after a year on the shelves I knew the Shield TV was on the horizon and (wrongly) assumed they would do a new tablet with Maxwell. Instead they released the Shield K1, still using Kepler and removing some features to lower the price point.
eBay search: Amazon Kindle (5th Generation) 7 in - 8.9 in Screen Tablets shows SV98LN
Wikipedia: Amazon Fire tablet show KFFOWI
This XDA post Help me unbrick my Kindle Fire Gen 5 mentions both SV98LN and KFFOWI.
This XDA post Bootloader Unlock Ideas has the text, "I bought one of these 7-inch Fire Tablets (5th generation) during the $35 sale a few weeks back. I purchased it from a big chain store, so it has model SV98LN rather than the KFFOWI reported by others in this forum.
A Google search for "amazon SV98LN kffowi" gives a top result of Fire Tablet with Alexa, 7" Display, 8 GB
When my Fire 7" was still alive, it said it was KFFOWI, but then it crossed the Capacitor Bridge to heaven and I started looking on eBay for a replacement.
TL;DR I can't find anything official at amazon.com that explicitly states SV98LN is the same as KFFOWI. What am I missing, and what would I get if I bought SV98LN off of ebay?
In your opinion, what is the best Android TV box for IPTV use? Which would you choose if you could only budget $50 for a box?
I would say Nvidia Shield Pro for now. But that will change soon if they don't release an upgraded version of theirs.
