I have been looking at the specs for this as my first tablet and one thing i saw was that there is no HDMI out ... Now this seems like a pretty important feature that i really think it should include. so if it doesn't ... well that'd suck
No HDMI out on the 10.1v.
I don't know about the 10.1 though.
-EDIT-
It may support HDMI out through the proprietary port in the future, since it can output a video signal from there.
Are we talking about 10.1v or the new one?
I haven't really looked in to 10.1v too much but as far as i can remember it did not have HDMI out.
10.1 got MHL standard port that got USB 3.0 and HDMI capability. I would have prefered HDMI out but this is not at least total propieraty. Got a actually check how much exactly are there existing stuff for the MHL.
I think i would go 10.1 not V ... also would have to go the ipad route and get some weird adapter ?
As per the specs, even the 10.1 doesn't have HDMI out

As you can't use HDMI, mini-HDMI right out of the box, yes will most probably need some adapter.
Though MHL is just not some proprietary thingie thought by the great heads of Samsung so hopefully we would see cheap docks, cables or adapters.
Here's wiki page about the MHL.
I'm kind of a between with this. The port itself looks like a great thing, but it's just so new that there doesn't seem to be much stuff out for it yet.
Well, the MHL will work out fine for me since the evo 3d also has the MHL port

HDMI/Charging Dock
Back in March at the Samsung Event at CTIA Orlando one of the accessories mentioned was an HDMI/Charging dock. The 10.1 Tab will not have a HDMI port. Only port on the unit will be microSd or SIM slot when 3G version is released.
Another accessory mentioned was the USB/SD card reader adapter.
I guess we will have to wait until May 24th with the Samsung event in NYC.
Here's the video of the keynote address by Samsung.

IDK About the 24th, I feel like this will have something to do with a Kindle tablet or a new Nook Color. But I'd love to have more on the 10.1
EDIT: Now that I think about it, won't that be the day before the pre-order opens? Most people don't know about the 10.1, so it wouldn't surprise me if Sammy tried to get tons of press for the 10.1, along with launching a new TV campaign after the event. I just tweeted Samsung USA about possibly having more on the 10.1
EDIT 2: Re-Watched the video, he mentions an accessory that adds HDMI out.
10.1 v has the same connector as the Galaxy Tab 7" . For the galaxy tab 7" you can get a dock with a HDMI out. Maybe a similar dock will be made available for the 10.1v

Hi There
I am Waiting For Galaxy Tab 2 to come out here in U.k, Don't know when it is coming out.
Also I am getting confused with all these different versions of galaxy tab 2,
There's
galaxy tab 2 8.9
galaxy tab 2 10.1
galaxy tab 2 10.1v
Can someone shed some light please
Which is the better one?
Which One Is Going To Be The Better/Hot Seller?
Hope You Can Help
Thanks
NOPE.
There's the 10.1V the thick one on Vodafone
There's the 10.1 the thin one
and the 8.9. A small thin one.
first:
its not called galaxy tab 2.
Second :
the difference between the 10.1 and 8.9 is just size (physical and battery)
the difference between the 10.1 and 10.1v is more pronounced
What the 10.1 (and 8.9) has over the 10.1v
Pls display
MicroSD card reader
Thiner
Dual wi-fi antenna (10.1only)
Bluetooth 3.0 (8.9only)
While the 10.1v has a much better camera

As for the 10.1 versions, the confusion is caused by Samsung. The 10.1 v was announced at the CES, before the launch of the iPad 2. It was/is a tablet with almost the same dimensions as the Xoom (only a bit lighter, although very noticeable) .
The 10.1 was introduced at the Mobile Congress in Barcelona after the introduction of the iPad 2, and it was Samsungs answer to it. It was basically the predecessor (which wasn't launched by then) with the only difference that it was a lot smaller.
Somehow Samsung made the confusing decision to launch the unit the introduced at the CES, although they developed a successor before the introduction of it. Why? Maybe they had the production ready for the first version, don't know, but yes, very weird. Nevertheless as far as I know the 10.1v is exclusively sold by Vodafone and were released the previous week. The 10.1 will be released in June in the USA according to some blogs.
For the exact differences between 10.1 and the current 10.1v see post by k-dog
(As far as I know, the preproduction unit introduced at the CES also had a microsd slot etc. .. the way I see it, Samsung made a clever deal with Vodafone to dump their first units with little additional costs. But that is of course just an interpretation ...)

Samsung has us all confused with changing the 10.1.
My understanding is that Galaxy Tab 10.1 was first announced at Mobile Congress in Barcelona.
The new thin iPad 2 announced shortly after in March.
Samsung announced the "thin" Galaxy tab 10.1 March 24th at CTIA in Orlando along with the 8.9 version. Samsung wanted their tablet to be the thinnest. The original Galaxy Tab 10.1 became the 10.1v.
Release date for the USA for the 10.1 wifi only model is June 8th.
Here's the Samsung CTIA keynote address.

It would appear the 10.1v has dual wifi antenna also - I have one in front of me right now and it has the option of connecting to my 2.4ghz wifi router and my 5ghz 802.11n AP.
You are right. Samsungs site for the 10.1v does say it has dual antennas
Maybe the 8.9 also has it then.
cameras?
So I'm guessing the new 10.1 is better than 10.1v?
What's the difference in camera?
And what tablet would you guys recommend me to get?
Thanks
The 10.1 is "better" from the little we know now.
the camera on the 10.1 is a 3mp that can record in 1080p
But the 10.1v has the same 8mp as the galaxy s 2.
the camera is the only thing the 10.1v has over the 10.1
10.1 has micro SD card slot.

OH ****. Yup. The 8.9 has one, according to http://originus.samsung.com/us/news/newsRead.do?news_seq=19833&gltype
I'm a little confused about why the 8.9 has one and the 10.1 doesn't.
10.1 does have MicroSD
Same with the 8.9
but the 10.1v does not
which is released
so the thicker one 10.1v is released?
and the slimmer tab is not yet released?
Yes
the 10.1v (thicker) is out in select markets
the 10.1 (slim) will be out in about a months time
There is one more unknown but potentially quite big difference between 10.1v and 10.1 - heart of the tablet.
While 10.1v runs with Tegra 2 inside (so if you want to watch movies on your new device it might prove difficult) the coming one 10.1 is described by Samsung as with " dual core 1Ghz processor inside".
We all here think (and some of us hope) that this "secrecy" means it will run with Exynos (Samsung's own design) inside. If so it would mean this would be more versatile device than Tegra 2 tablets and iPad 2 - true king of tabs.

I can get the 10.1v today. Should I wait for the slimmer version? I live in Europe. Will the 10.1 also have an mini hdmi out or the same port as the SGSII?
Edit: Nevermind I just read all the issues with the 10.1v. Tbh I will wait for the slim version. Ports, SD slot and better screen are more important than a good camera.

That is exactly what I am doing and also why (if slim GT is not Exynos based) why it dose not make any sense to Samsung to hide this information if it is only Tegra CPU. Beside sd support some ppl. might have buy 10.1v if they knew 10.1 is not that much different.
Do I read things correctly that 10.1v is actually more expensive that 10.1?
I'm starting to see reports that the price for the Samsung tablet has indeed changed in order to compete. Can anyone confirm? thanks
http://www.htcflyer.tk/smartphones/smart-phone/samsung/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-release-date
http://gadgetian.com/14647/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wi-fi-june-8-price/
Here are 2 links..
I hope it will be $399 for the wifi 16GB, but I don't really think we will get that price on june 8th
This is getting me closer and closer to canceling my order with JR,, you think they will refund 100$ if the released price is less then what we paid?
I wouldn't say those links were reliable, but best buy still hasn't posted the price and we are only a few days away. That whats got me thinking that the 16GB $399 price is a possibility.
$399 would be a killer price. I would be surprised if they dropped it that low though right out of the gate although the TF is that price. I wonder if that would make the 8.9 $369.. I wish we could get more info on that model too.
Word is Samsung is try to compete with Apple's price. That's interesting what you said about the 8.9 being below the $399 mark. I see that appealing to business user even more. Would make sense if their are trying to make a big splash right from the start. But for now I going to just take it as a rumor until can confirm.
It's a rumor. They said at CTIA, when they were announced, that the 10.1 would be $499 and the 8.9 would be $469.
Agreed.
They already announced pricing.
Yeah they already announced pricing and I think it will still be $499/$469 although one could make an argument that the Tab 10.1 being thin doesn't justify $500 when the TF has IPS,SD slot and I believe HDMI all built in. Though it's not as thin.
IMO the problem with Android devices is there isn't much to separate them from one another other than price. Tegra2,HC,1GB, 16/32GB seems to be the basic specs.
Like I said give us a date for the 8.9 model
amazing if true, and would be an instant buy for me.. but i hope this means that samsung isn't cutting corners to make it happen. and i really hope that micro sd slot is there for the wifi only come june 8th
I don't believe the rumors of the price drop for an instant. Samsung doesn't have to price itself to beat the iPad 2, it just has to beat the other Android tablets, and looking around at what we got, I think Samsung has done that.
I'm not sure I'm buying a Galaxy Tab 10.1, because of the no micro SD slot. But I have a feeling Samsung is probably gonna be selling these things faster than they can make them for a while.
What I'm not certain about is the June 8th launch date though. They canceled that May 24th event for some reason and I don't think we've heard much lately. And two retailers, Office Max and JR.com are saying they aren't getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 until late June (Office Max says June 24th specifically).
It could still happen on June 8th, but just at bigger retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and such and Office Max and JR.com are being made to wait, that wouldn't exactly be new. And Best Buy just put that page up. But it still makes me wonder.
It may not have to beat the iPad2 but it still has the TF that's $100 cheaper and from reading around it seems having and SD/microSD slot and HDMI built in which is a big deal for some.
The memory slot or HDMI don't matter to me but it does to some.
I like you wonder is the release date still the 8th. So little is being said at this point and still no 8.9 official date to my knowledge.
If they push the 8.9 till late July I'm probably going to start looking at other options

Transformer is the only decent tablet out right now in my eyes and at it's price it's going to be a very compelling alternative to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, especially with the micro SD and mini HDMI ports. I cancelled my pre-order for the GT 10.1 and just bought a Transformer again (had one before and returned it).
I've been on the fence between the Transformer and GT 10.1 for over a month. The micro SD is really big to me, because I don't believe 16GB of storage will fill my needs. So if I buy a GT 10.1, I'll have to spend $600 for the 32GB model. Since the Transformer has micro SD, I can buy the $400 16GB model and insert a 16GB card if I need more space. I'm saving $180 after you factor in a $20 16GB micro SD card for the Transformer.
But I'm giving up a lot of comfort. The Transformer isn't that heavy (much lighter than the Xoom and A500), but still quite a bit heavier compare to the GT 10.1. And the GT 10.1 has nice rounded edges on all sides. The Transform has a lot of corners, especially when held in portrait mode, it's not comfortable at all. This alone makes me think maybe the GT 10.1 32GB might be worth almost $200 more.
Transformer is a great tablet and I hope I'll be happy with the decision I made. But I don't think as many people really are going to put as much value into the micro SD slot as I do, or even that sweet keyboard dock (I can't even get one). The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is going to win hearts with it's sleeker look and design and better ergonomics and comfort. People will pay more for that.
I tend to agree with the review of GTab 10.1 IO Edition below:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ablet-when-size-does-matter-xoom-comparisons/
The weight and size are important factors for using a tablet.
I have an iPad2 that weigh just 600gram, and even that I feel quite uncomfortable to hold it very long
I know, I am skinny and I need to go to the gym ... but well, yeah ... GTab 10.1 for me
I hope your new Transformer is better than the last one, I returned mine and I'm now getting fed up with waiting for UK GT 10.1 prices, dates and spec. If it doesn't work out price wise then I think I'll likely try another Transformer, so long as I can get a good one.
I fall into the like the sleek looking stuff so the 10.1/8.9 for me but cheaper is always better I have a 16gb iPhone4 and it's not close to being full so the 16GB device would be fine. HDMI doesn't matter as nothing on the tablet I'd want to view that I wouldn't be able to view via PS3,PC,Laptop, etc
I just want to get some type of time frame. I heard the 10.1 may be pushed back and wonder if that is going to push back the 8.9.
If it's too much later then me being me would start looking at the HP WebOS device. Then you have the Amazon tablet later.
If the 8.9 get's pushed too late into the summer I may just wait on the quad cores or see what Windows ARM OS does
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00519RWI8/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
Its up on Amazon,..no price just like best buy. Things are getting interesting!
I had the Galaxy tab 10.1 limited edition for a few days (I was one of the lucky 5000 google io attendees). It was very solid and nice... and I sold it for over $900 in ebay and then bought a transformer from bestbuy for $433 (including taxes and shipping). Transformer is nice but GT is better (except the ports). My wife was so surprised how light the GT was (I also owned Gtablet and Nook color).
Anyways, I am returning my transformer to bestbuy and will get one from Amazon as soon as they start selling..(signed up for the alert). The extra $100 dollars is worth it.. GT 10.1 (by far) the best tablet out of all my past collection.(gtablet, nook color and transformer). Well, it is definitely not worth $900.. but $500 is a deal ( in my opinion).
Just ordered my transform last night and I can't wait to get it. Its selling out at a lot of places and some places are saying discontinued. I was looking at getting a dock eventually too, but even that is sold out and even discontinued at some places too. Do you guys think it will be hard to get that soon too? Should I just go ahead and get that while I still can?

I am keeping my TF and Dock for quite some time. May upgrade at some point to the prime. But I will say I rarely use the dock. I prefer to just use it as a tablet only.
I wouldn't worry regardless. You should be able to get second hands docks, (and TF's), for quite some time..
that is a tough question as availability will depend on demand. It appears a lot of current TF owners are happy with their TF and will not immediately jump to Prime or competitors. There will be a lot of TFs and docks available in the used market as people gradually move up.
Many of the accessories, like the tablet external dongles for USB and SD cards or the micro hdmi to vga adapter appear to be the same for both models. I suspect that's a reason why the desktop dock was dropped so quickly; other than the keyboard docking station to make all other options broadly speaking 'compatible'. Also, at least for now Asus see the original transformer and Prime as complementary rather than strictly speaking a replacement i.e the original model as the mainstream option with the Prime as the premium one. So, I don't think the keyboard dock is going to be harder to get hold of other than the ebbs and flows in availability we've always had. Asus haven't always been very good at managing stock levels, although that could have been as much an issue with the supplier's expectations.
Robert
They probably want to have high end and low end tablets. For know it will Prime and normal Transformer.

Toshiba Thrive is only $259.99 today (2-29-12) with $5 shipping.
Thinking about jumping on this.

Just saw this elsewhere, and wondering too whether I should get it. I was originally looking at some 7" tablet but the full-size ports and removable battery are nice. And yeah, there are better tablets out/coming, but they also cost more and either require proprietary connectors or don't have full-size ones.
Thinking about it too but will hold off. It's a shame it's only for one day. Waiting to see if anything Comes up about the Asus memo 370t from mwc later in the week. Also there doesn't seem to be a lot of dev for the thrive.

Well, considering the number one brand my company repairs daily is Toshiba. I don't believe it to be a very reliable item. Very cheap though.
Also, sale ended. :/
Engadget review said the N10 didnt have miracast, unlike the N4
is this something that will be available at launch, or in an upgrade
that really sucks cause i was pumped about using to to beam XBMC and games to my TV, even got a miracast adapter for my tv (all share hub)
I expect by the time you can buy a tablet it will be working. You should get the up grade as soon as you start using the tablet. Since the n10 has to be in warehouses ready to go they will have to update when sold. Jmo
Which is yet another reason to take these pre-release reviews with a grain of salt...
I thought about that to be honest, but what confused me is it was there in the nexus 4 pre release; we will see nov 13, fingers crossed
