Recovery loop after TWRP Restore LineageOS 17.1 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
I had had LOS17.1 installed on my SGN3. Made a TWRP 3.4.0-1 backup, flashed a stock ROM for a few days and then went for restoring LOS17 again. But restoration wasn't successful.
First "Cannot restore Modem - mounted read only" log show up during restoration. Checking Modem in Mount did not help. So I unchecked modem, which "solved" the issue.
After restore completed, device rebooted but got stuck in what I would call a recovery loop. Black screen -> TWRP splashscreen -> black screen (repeat indefinitely). It can be broken up by entering Recovery (or Download) by appropriate hardware key combo.
But the issue is I cannot get into my system. Installing LOS17 from scratch works but I would like the data.
I tried multiple TWRP versions and fix_rootfs_label.zip I have found here on XDA with no success. Installing fresh LOS17 works and restoring only "data" lets me boot, but the system is not usable (but still trying).
Restoring more than "data" always ended up in the recovery loop.
What was interesting is that when I tried to install GApps to the restored backup, it threw an error saying that this GApps package is for Android 10, while Android 7 (SDK 25) was detected on the system.
Any help?
Thank you!

Did you flash Gapps or no? If yes try nano if no i can't help

Device memory damaged

I am trying to reinstall the original system and data onto my S5. I had Cyanogenmod on it, but before I installed CM12, I made a backup of {System, Boot, Data, Modem} as they existed with the stock system using TWRP.
I restored the partitions from my TWRP backup. Now when it boots, after the Samsung animation is shown, I am presented with a screen that says "Device memory damaged" (see attached image).
If I click the "Reset device" button, it boots into TWRP and attempts to clear some data. I assume it's not working because Samsung's stock recovery is supposed to do some magic that TWRP isn't capable of?
I have tried to clear the cache partition, and also tried to restore the data from backup more than once. The MD5 check on my backup files passes. Any ideas?
flash with correct pit and try to root, install cwm/twrp, restore your backup rom
I got it sorted out. I had to use Odin to flash the stock rom, which I downloaded from a questionable source online.

If you can get into twrp, see if system is mounted. If it isn't, it probably won't keep the option when you try and check it. So do a restore on the system only, then woke cache, go to Mount system and it should stick. Reboot and it should get you back up and running.
I also took the update.. this method of mounting system, etc. isn't working. *edit* Battery pull, volume down/power button/ factory reset fixed the bootloop.

TWRP/G6 not mounting system

Hi
I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP as described in the tutorials here. I then also flashed SuperSU. Afterwards I booted into stock Android and it worked. I wanted to do a factory reset so that after reinitializing I could install all my apps automatically. I went into TWRP --> Wipe --> Slide to Wipe. After rebooting it asked me for the pincode to decrypt. Since that didn't work I wiped everything except the SD Card and flashed lineage. Since then, my G6 keeps booting into TWRP. I even tried AquariOS (randomls chosen ROM) and I have the same results. I checked into "backup" in TWRP and the system partition is about 1GB. I then wiped it, and it went down to almost 0 I think. I then reflashed lineage and it was again at almost 1GB. So as it seems it is writing something. I then went into "mount" and system was not selected. I checked it and "mount system partition as read only", rebooted into the system, and it booted into TWRP again, system was unchecked under mount, but the read-only option was still checked. tried the same without the read-only option, same result. So now my G6 keeps mounting into TWRP instead of the ROM.
Any ideas what I can do?
Format data in recovery, don't wipe. It will disable encryption. Flash stock 14a again and see if you can get it to boot
I fixed it, somehow TWRP was messed up. I redownloaded it and reflashed it and then it worked

MIUI backup doesn't boot up after restoring through TWRP

So... I installed LOS & it all went fine, but when I restored my MIUI backup with TWRP, the phone is stuck on the very first boot screen (on which it says Redmi by Xiaomi) & won't move any further. I've wiped the system, data & boot partitions yet no luck. What could be wrong? I want to go back to MIUI to backup my apps
it happened to me too.
when i done updating my device to newer nightly update, i got stuck on twrp decrypt data password. trying to restore back to miui, but then getting stuck on the very first boot screen.
i got no luck when trying several times restoring twrp recovery and miui, so i stay in LOS with no other options.
if someone could help please show me the guide.
thanks

Error 255 when restoring a TWRP backup

Hello,
when I try to restore my TWRP backup of Lineage 17 on my Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 I run into the
extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255issue, and have tried several methods which I have found when googling for fixes, but none has worked so far.
This is what I've tried:
- unmount the data partition before restoring backup
- just restore system, data and boot, tick off the others
- wiped data/system/cache, flashed rom+gapps, flashed backup with all sections activated (radio, system, data,...)
- wiped data/system/cache, flashed rom+gapps, flashed backup with only restoring system, data+boot
- wiped data/system/cache, flashed rom+gapps, wiped dalvik/cache after, flashed backup w/ only restoring system, data+boot
- wiped data/system/cache, flashed rom+gapps, reboot, clicking next on every configuration screen, reboot to recovery, restore only data from backup
The issue seems to always occur at the same point in the process, in the progress bar its either at ca 45% or 58%, depending on if only data or everything is supposed to be restored. Restoring everything _BUT_ the data partition works, but the stuff I need to access is the data.
Kind regards
Hello,
I managed to fully restore the backup follwing this guide
Now my phone boots up to the point right after the Lineage logo is shown, where it says "starting the phone" and would probably ask for sim pin if I had a sim card in it. Then it reboots and does the whole thing again.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
Kind regards
