A500 files - Acer Iconia A500

I know everyone has moved on away from this tablet but does anyone out there still have a collection of A500 bootloader or rom files they could share. I am looking for anything useful for the A500 while trying to revive mine. I am having a very hard time finding what I need. I have a few files but seems I am hitting a brick wall. Anything would work. If I find enough and it would be useful I could put these up on a website as a collection for anyone to use.
My A500 has skrilax V8 bootloader with TWRP installed on second kernel (it wont install on recovery partition for lack of space. Either way that works. I am having a terrible time getting a working rom installed. I tried a few stock rom's and finally got lightspeed_v8 to install but when it boots it goes directly to a full yellow screen with some kind of weird full screen design on it and thats it. It looks like graphic corruption or something but the bootloader and twrp screens are fine. Any thoughts? Thanks

[Q] Genuinely Bricked??

I have looked high and low for a similar thread (detailing my specific problem) so I apologize if it exists and I was unable to locate it. I attempted to flash the PRIMEE ROM on my Acer with all apparently going well until the end. Messages were displayed saying that data, cache, etc. could not mount or something to that effect. I foolishly rebooted only to find that the Iconia will only display "Unrecoverable Bootloader Error (0x000000004)"
That's it. It is completely unresponsive to any other attempts to factory reset. Power/volume does nothing. I have looked extensively for some solution to this problem (attempted Reset button, moving lock screen slider/power-volume combination). You name it, I've tried it. It was briefly recognized by my PC when connected via USB but the AXP drivers were not found and did not install. I'm really flummoxed here.
Again, apologies if this is a duplicate thread but it seems fairly unique in that I cannot get any response at all. I fear that I've really done it this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You DID install the custom clockworkmod app from the dev section, right? Not the one from the market...
Clockwork.....
No, unfortunately I did not. Didn't even realize there was a difference. I did install the Acer Recovery App as well, but otherwise, I think I'm pretty well screwed....
Well mate, now thats a huge problem you got there. If you would've screwed the /system partition np, /data partition, also np.....But uhh, bootloader error...i got the feeling your flashing has screwed up the internal Kernel of the Device, which is connected to the Bootloader, and without a Bootloader...well as its name says, you cant boot anything. Its like a Bios to a normal Computer,if you screw up the Bios, basically you can throw your Motherboard away...and sadly, the tablet comes all together, also i dont think Acer's Warranty will do anything about it aswell since you flashed an unofficial ROM/Kernel.
Your only solution is to send it to Acer, and see if your lucky enough and they fix it for free,if not ...well pay or get another one.
Goodluck with your problem mate.
Respect.
Yeah - kinda figured as much. Very disappointed that I lost it but I suppose I can make one last ditch effort to get it to Acer and see if they'll replace it but I'm skeptical at this point. Oh well - first time for everything. Lesson learned. Thanks for the help all the same.
First, congratulations. You managed to get the unrecoverable bootloader error
--> PM me with your UID, I may help you.
..............Edited..............
You should talk with sc2k I was in the same position you're in with the Unrecoverable Bootloader Error. Sent sc2k the UID for my A500 and he was able get my A500 back up and running again.
first of all, make sure you have a sd-card.
second. dl a stock rom to your PC 1.10.42 for instance, extract with decrypter and put the update.zip on the sd-card using a card reader or maybe your phone.
the put the sd-card back on your ICONIA.
after do the following:
hit VOLUME + (volume up) and power, until it vibrates, keep you finger on volume + and toggle the screen toggle switch.
it will then say formating data and formating cache, and the will start to flash the update.zip
once finished you should be ok.
Hi,
i have the same probplem, can anyone help me?
i have installed a custom firmware from thor and enabled the 3g option, my a500 will only vibrate after reboot with the error "Unrecoverable Bootloader Error (0x000000004)"
i cant read out the UID or anything else ... can anyone help me???
APX Mode runs but i cant recover with nvflash ...

Need help with loading other ROM

Hey guys. Hope that someone can help me out here, I'm stuck trying to load a new ROM on a friends Iconia A500.
I searched the internet for a simple rooting tool. Came across Blackthunder, used it to root the Iconia. Rooted without any problems. Afterwards I download the Acer Recovery tool from the market. Flashed with CWM.
Problem is that when I reboot into recovery it keeps on saying "booting recovery kernel image", nothing happens. On my own Transformer I just boot into CWM and flash with whatever I'd like.
Can someone please guide me to a step by step tutorial, or explain what I did wrong here?
Cheers!

Well, the big question...Which version of android do you currently run?
Which version of CWM did you try to flash?
Second question, which bootloader are you currently on? To find out, just run the acer recovery app and it will tell you when it starts.
And finally, which rom are you trying to install.
Then we can give you a more precise answer.

Thanks. I managed to make a few steps in the right direction.
New problem though. I managed to get CWM working correctly. It feels a bit buggy, with some backbuttons not responding. Downloaded Lightspeed 4.7., seems like the fastest rom out for the Iconia.
Factory reset + /system format. Installed the zip, everything looks ok.
When I boot up the tablet the first few seconds the screen looks fubar'd. Like a really nasty system crash, with white lines running all over the screen. Afterwards you get a standard boot animation & ICS loads up. If you put the tablet on standby though it goes into deep sleep after about 10 minutes.
I downloaded Taboonay just to be sure it's something in the rom. Taboonay works, but feels significately slower.

Glad you made some steps.
You still didn't answer my questions about bootloader.
The reason you got the screwy screen on boot, is because that rom you tried to install, used a "hacked" kernel so that ICS could run on an HC bootloader. It's perfectly normal. The deep sleep you refer to, is called SOD, (sleep of death) and usually you have to reboot.
This is why I asked which bootloader you were currently running. Because it makes a big difference since the release of ICS. Acer changed the playing rules.
Once again I ask you, to run AcerRecovery, and just get the version bootloader you are currently running. Upgrading to the ICS Unlocked bootloader makes things a whole lot smoother.

Hmmm, thought it had something to do with that.
Installed Acer Recovery Installer. Am on bootloader version 0.03.11-ICS
Recovery version CWM rev1.7 (v5.5.0.x). Asus Transformer has it's fair share of SOD's, but those are random. With the Lightspeed rom I tried it was like clockwork.
Should i upgrade the bootloader to a newer version? Do you have any idea what's causing the SOD's?

If you plan on running ICS correctly now, and in the future, it is highly advisable to upgrade your bootloader to an ICS Unlocked version.
Civato posted a guide for doing just that (dev forums). It has all the info you need.
The reason SOD happens, is that in order to get a good root, and have an unlocked bootloader, certain things have to be done (hacks). With them. Remember, ICS kernel and bootloader communicate with each other. The hack to the kernel, resulted in the screwy display on boot. Also, SOD's can happen also (power management issue with wake loks). But at the time, in the beginning, it was a good method for getting ICS to run on a HC bootloader.
The unlocked ICS bootloader is the way to go. Every Dev's rom (made for ICS BL) has the kernel modified so that you not only get full root with no issues, you rarely get SOD anymore. Also some other enhancements have been added such as GPS tweaks for example.
If you get SOD, as I said, it happens so rarely now days that most can't remember that maybe they shut their tab off!
Most of the dev's (myself included) have quit support for HC BL based ICS roms. No reason for it.
Also remember, Acer is just starting to push ICS to the tabs a little. So builds will change on a regular basis. And the early builds will not be 100% stable. 95% probably. The rom you install today, may have a new version in a week. Who knows.

or nightly versions ,sometimes its hard to keep up , I think ICS not only changed the rules but the "skys the limit" now and Devs see stuff and change it quickly!

[Q] boot verification failed

I can list any number of things that I've done/tried, but there have been so many! I'm not a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs, but I'm a new to the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and that's the problem, I think.
Anyway, I got the A500 with Honeycomb and I let it do the ICS OTA. No problem. Then I rooted it. No problem. I got to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31546261#post31546261
Then I decided to change the bootloader and that's when I borked something up. It would still boot into ICS just fine, but I couldn't get into recovery. I decided to try downgrading to Honeycomb 3.0.1 using the "unstable" update.zip, but that just ruined everything as now I'm completely stuck. I can't boot at all, it just hangs at the black screen with white Acer letters and red "boot verification failed" in the top left corner. Recovery gets me the dead Android image with the black exclamation point in a red triangle.
I have looked all over and I've read dozens of XDA threads...and I'm sure I'm missing the one thing I need to do to fix this, but heck if I know what it is. I have the Acer drivers installed on my computer, I have a variety of tools (nvflash, blackthund3r's apxflash, etc) waiting to be used if necessary.
So, please, I implore you...treat me like I'm dumb and walk me step-by-step through whatever it is I need to do to get my A500 back up and running! Thanks for your help!
UPDATE: Many hours later, I fixed it! I did another update using the full, stock image of Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2 (just guessing about whether it would work or not) and it seems to have done it. Sure, I'm back on Honeycomb 3.2, but it worked. And then I was able to use AfterOTA to root and get the CWM bootloader on there.
So my next question: what do I need to do in order to get ICS? Can I just flash an ICS ROM from CWM, or do I need to update the bootloader in some way?
Thanks!

Yes and No.
Now that you are on HC 3.2, you're going to need to do the process again.
IE: Unlocked Bootloader and CWM
The problem you had at first, is that when you flashed the UNL bootloader and CWM, you missed 1 tiny step. (lot of people forget to do this) And that is to delete the boot-recovery.p file from the /System. If you do not, you can install CWM, however, when you boot into stock ICS, your CWM gets overwritten. Another little trick from Acer
In the Dev Section, in the stickies part, Civato posted a link to a full ICS Stock Root Rom, With all the nasty stuff removed. (bootloader, recovery files). Download it, put it on your Ext Sd card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31572588&postcount=6
Then do the unlocked bootloader + Cwm again. Only THIS TIME, when it finishes, boot the tab immediately to CWM (vol- and PWR). And install the modified stock rom, or one of the custom roms.
Don;t forget to get your HC UID number written down before starting the process. Also it's good after ICS to get your ICS UID number also written down.

Well, I borked it again...

Summery:
I borked my A500 and can't find any download links that work for the Acer UnBricker.
Long story:
Touchscreen glass was cracked, but worked,
then it stopped loading anything, so replaced the touchscreen digitizer rhino glass stuff
now it loaded into recovery, awesome,
wouldn't load android
tried many different ROMs
none would load
Got the bright idea that maybe Skillraz (sp?) V8 boot loader was borked, so tried to change it to Thor's V9, but kind of did it wrong...
Now whenever I boot (Recovery or just power button) I get this:
Skrilax_CZ's Bootloader V9
Then this:
Flashing Bootloader...
ERROR: Update Failed
Then nothing.
I've searched around, (yes, I've used the Glorified Google), to find threads related to the Acer UnBricker, unfortunately Acer no longer provides it and anyone's dropbox megaupload GDrive Box, or otherwise links do not work.
If anyone knows any link to one (and a guide for that specific unbricker) that'd be great. Please keep in mind I cannot load Android to put it into developer mode, I cannot either access my Install ID, Or if anyone could re-upload it if they have it and point to the guide they got it from, that'd be awesome as well
Thanks in advance everyone!!
PS, if this is in the wrong section, MODs please move it, and sorry.
System Specs:
Acer Iconia A500
Rooted, Deoxed, ZipAligned, and all that fun jazz
Any 4.2, 4.3 ROM I've tried
Stuck in a transition between Skrilax's V8 recovery and the V9 one from Thor.
And obviously I didn't heed the warnings enough, I realize that and don't need ripping on for that, I know where I went wrong
See the root guide in my sig...all download links are working to all the tools you'll ever need...oh, and u might wanna get rid of the update.zip you have on yr sd/ext sd card

This makes me so Sick

My Mojo has died... It acts like it wants to boot but never makes it - just leaving a blank screen. I feel like I have lost my bff. I was trying to install the REMIX OS, I guess it went left instead of right. IF anyone is willing to help me , I will even ship it out to ya if it will help. I am in Poplar Bluff, MO USA. I feel so sick when I think about how I killed my bff. Thanks Andy.... Pls reply.
Welcome to the club. Mine died on me too. The blue lights comes on but nothing but a black screen.
Have you guys tried looking up old threads with the same issue?
@kevinthefixer helped lots of folks with bricked (or seemingly dead) MOJOs.
Those posts are actually the reason why I don't wanna upgrade my MOJO with new ROMs. The only thing my stock rom doesn't do is play videos on Prime Videos. I can survive without that. And for some reasons, it magically mount my external HDD on boot with no extra app or stuff. I can't ask for more than that.
Hope you guys get some fix among those old threads. If not, try to contact Mad Catz if they can replace or something. I know rooting doesn't void the warranty. But I don't know if that's the case with unofficial builds. Plus, @Unjustified Dev was begging those Mad Catz guys to release the source code so that he can develop better roms.
Check out the recovery thread in the development section. It explains how to force the MOJO to boot into recovery via Fastboot using a PC. Now, I don't want to say that this makes the MOJO unbrickable, I don't believe all the gods together could do that to any machine. But it makes bricking it very unlikely. Once you're in recovery, you can try a factory reset, flash the same ROM again, flash the stock FW back (extremely quick & easy if you shot a Nandroid backup before flashing a custom ROM), and (this one I recommend whenever changing ROMs) format your /data partition.
I doubt Mad Catz will warranty your hardware because of a software problem that you caused. I recommend you learn to repair that problem, especially since it is so easy on the MOJO.
Hello,
Does anybody know how to fix the "INPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE" error.
Please help, I dont want to give up on my Mojo.
Having kind of the same issue. the hdmi was starting to come off board so i opened and fixed it. But when i turned on nothing but i did the the instructions from the forum and was able to flash twrp on it and custom rom. I can do whatever i want in recovery but when it boots i get nothing no light on front. ive tried all the custom roms and official and wiping everything but still no boot felt like a big loss. is there anything else to do? What did i possibly mess up strange since i can get into recovery.

Very strange, you're saying that you get a video output when booted into recovery but not when booting a ROM? From your description I'd be ready to say so solly, you have a hardware problem, but if TWRP can output video it's almost certain that it's a software glitch. Did you try a full format of the /data partition? If that filesystem is corrupt it might conceivably cause that.
How did you fix the hdmi port. Mine was a little loose so I soldered the 4 contact points but with no luck. Can you give me some pointers of how you fixed yours? Thanks.
