Shield TV 2015 Stuck on Coloured Icons - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

nVidia have been useless and first claimed no updates have been out and the Live support refused to answer questions.
Seems there was an update and it must have happened when I left my Shied TV on one night.
Now I can get into fastboot menu but if I boot normal, I get nVidia logo then the 4 colour icons just spinning and rotating around.
It won't progress to the Android logo and boot.
I would try reset but is there anyway to get to my settings and save them without having to put in all my usernames and pwd's on Apps.
If it is possible, would I need to download all Apps again?
The other question is, nVidia live support told me I can not apply an image from USB or SD card, yet when asked, Why are there those options.
Live support just sat there then disconnected the chat.

Anyone?

I have had the same problem years ago when I was rooting. It's corrupted, your only option is try and reset.

I had to do a factory reset more than once.
Seems either a HDD fault or some other fault as it works then when installing all apps again, it runs into issues.
NVidia did finally respond but just said the same and intermittence hardware fault, which they couldn't say if it would be the HDD or not.
The update must have pushed it to sectors which are corrupt, unless it's over heating.

My suggestion is too buy a hdd cloner and clone to a SSD there are ample instructions on the forum I did this year's ago and have never had a problem and it's also alot faster

I will be returning it as I still had warranty on it.
I was going to put a SSD in it, but if it's another fault, I don't want to run out of warranty.

It is, but where I bought it from, give warranty for a certain period of time.
They will probably factor that into the cost.

Send it back to Acer. They'll fix it, but you'll have to pay for shipping.
wow they ll fix it for free you think ?
they wont charge me 1000$ ?
Acer has a single pricing repair .The cost for this in the us.is.199.99 dollars. I have called them in the past. However I do not know about just fixing a bootloader issue. Something that they should give a way to the end user to do from there home.but then again they lock these devices to protect software rights of digital copyright and so on.
Call them but be honest as to what you done. They will figure it out anyway.
You can also contact sc2k here on this forum. He might be able to help you.
Good luck.

yes, I cant even boot. Dont see acer logo, android,
or hardware reset message "erasing..."
display stays black all time
doesnt vibrate
EDIT: just saw in my device and printer tab in sys settings, there is a device called APX. Acer Picasso USB Boot recovery driver
EDIT2: lol somehow i managed to get into acer download state with pbj20upgrade.
installing 3.0.1 now.
i think i was stuck in this mode and the devices waited for data or something
EDIT3: if anyone has the same problem try this:
install andoid sdk!
start pbj20
click next
turn out iconia
turn it on
if you are in APX mode (look in sys settings> devices and printer), youre good to go
it will check for versions
you get message: Connected ?
type yes
setup starts somehow

There have been more than a few members that have bricked their tabs, sent them back, and Acer has either fixed or replaced their units for free. Not sure wtf ER is talking about though?!?

Maybe I was a bit unclear.I was saying ask acernto fix it..
And I know from experience with acre they have a flat rate for repair.on any acer computer product.199.99.
I called them in the past about a main board in a laptop.
Then again when I dropped my tablet.Sorry for any confusion maybe I should go back to doing the dishes and looking pretty.

You interrupted the update...this is something you should never do when updating a devices firmware/bootloader and your tablet probably has an incomplete firmware/bootloader, as a result.
BTW: have you tried pressing VOL- and PWR, to load the recovery image: i mean if that would work at all, given your circumstances?

Nexus 7 Bricked, No response

Ok well skip this first part if you don't want a story,
I got my nexus around febuary as a gift for my birthday as a little toy and music, I went right ahead and unlocked the bootloader and rooted it for future use as well as going ahead and putting TWRP on it with multirom for ubuntu tinkering but never bothered flashing a new android and only flashed a new kernal to be able to tweek the clock speeds and never bothered with that ether becuase the nexus was fast enfough for everything i could throw at it.
Now a few days ago I decided to do a factory reset from TWRP to put a stock rom on it and clean everything off it, Then it just refused to boot BUT i still had bootloader access so all was well and i used the lazy option and oppted to use the nexus toolkit and told it to just flash the stock rom onto it. It finished then i went to restart it and it died.
Now since that death it will not boot, it will not get to the bootloader or recovery menu, it wont respond to any buttons at all, It won't dispaly the chargeing icon when pluged it nor will the screen turn on at all and to top it all off even when i plug it into my laptop it will not even notace it at all.
I have seen simlar problems but none exactly the same, I tryed to return it today but to put it lightly pc world are a bunch of asshats who woudent exchange or repair it becuase the receipt was slightly damaged so returning it isent an option.
Feel free to call me an idiot and everything but for any help at all I thank you in advance.
You should still be covered under the 12 month warranty from Asus with the warranty card you got along with your device.

Will they not not just tell me to go to the resaler?
My headset from asus broke and they told me I had to set up the rma with the online resaler i bought it from here.
There's no harm in atleast going to the Asus website and make an account then register your tablet.

Please help me out

I have the 2015 shield tv and the 16gb model. Flashed full android and now can't get into recovery not matter what. I have tried hardboot to recovery won't work like it did before. Also I cannot connect to fastboot or adb. it shows as a APX device now in device manager. anyway help me out here?
It doesn't display anything on screen and will not boot, bricked maybe
I have tried everything it is like there isn't a boot loader anymore. it won't display anything on screen period. I have green light on shield, i hear it connect to PC, but it cannot be connceted to via adb or fastboot commands. Says no emulator/devices found
I had the same thing happen to me after cloning my SSHD to my SSD. I'm really thinking they may have implemented something to check for tampering. It cannot just be a coincidence this has just started happening.
I have one that has the green light on but doesn't show anything on tv and doesn't show on pc. Hopefully someone can figure out how to short a couple pins on the nand chip. We used to do that on some of the older android boxes.
yea sucks mine is a paper weight now and can't find answers anywhere. Called nvidia and they said that when it goes to VPX mode like mine it is a hardware failure. It is like the bootloader is gone
I'm surprised there isn't a solution to this yet, any word on what to do yet?

Had the same problem, VPX and no bootloader, it would let me go into system recovery but after numerous times of factory resetting only to get same results I called Nvidia and got Rma
mine is out of warranty already tried, they said buy a new one, because its a hardware failure when its shows up as VPX

Nvidia Shield TV Pro, a Nightmare !

I got this thinking I am buying the best machine available for streaming and from day once , have been plagued by problems.
First on opening the unit, the AC adapter was faulty. It turned out to be a piece of plastic stuck between the contacts.
Anyway I solved that problem on my own as shipper refused to entertain any claims outside the USA.
Then when it finally got going, I noticed most apps had loading circles going around, and were waiting to download. Tried everything possible and they would not move ahead . Finally cleared cache and data on the Google Play Store app and the app started downloading for precisely one application then it stopped and again same circling. I had to clear data on the Play store app every time to update each and every app on the machine.
Then i couldnt find my favorite apps in the app store. Turns out , Shield does not support. Ok, no problem, i said lets compromise and move on.
Downloaded MX Player Pro from the Play Store and sat down to watch a 1080p movie on the USB drive and again the loading circle popped up on the screen. Buffering on a 1080p file from a usb 3.0 flash drive !!! I copied the file onto the HDD and again the same problem. I had no idea how to watch this movie, BTW had watched it a night before perfectly on my Alphawise H96 Pro+.
Then one by one all the apps started crashing.
I decided to do a factory restore which lasted 2,5 hours. After restore, same problem, all apps crashing.
I do not have anything connected to the Shield , no usb drive. no air mouse, nothing. Both ports are empty.
The surprising thing is even Google play store crashes , also the Lean back Launcher and the system crashes.
I called up Nvida support and they say we do not support the Shield as you are not in the USA. Guys, even the chinese from Aliexpress support you and give a replacement if item is faulty. All they ask is a video showing the problem. In todays times, there are going to be non us customers buying from the Usa, you need to support them also.
Stuck with a Lemon.
Cannot even sell it off as whoever buys it from me will throw it back in my face. The dam thing is just a few days old.
Havent slept three nights, trying to solve the problem, got finally tired and have connected the Alphawise to the TV and Shield goes back into the box
There are lots of other people complaining about similar issues but no fixes from Nvidia ?
If someone can please suggest something which I can try, I will be highly obliged. Else I am stuck with a $300 paper weight.
I did a Full Reset (2.5 hours) once and a Fast reset , hoping it would solve the problem. But no luck.
Please help, someone, please.
Wow, that sounds like a whole lotta suck.
Sorry to hear you had such hardship.
My Pro model had the blurry Recommendations section, which was a symptom of the faulty harddisk, for ages (before I knew about the mass RMA they had) and, one day, the Shield stopped responding to input, even from the capacitive power button on the device itself.
So I pulled the plug but it wouldn't turn back on afterwards.
I applied for a replacement here:
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/home
Where'd you get yours?
I'd purchased mine as soon as it was released through the US Amazon - I couldn't wait the extra month or so for it to be released in Europe
Despite this, they processed the replacement. I sent it off to the Netherlands, if I recall correctly, and they returned the refurbished unit shortly afterwards, which has been working fine ever since; all the useless recommendations load quickly and there's no slow down or stuttering like I'd experienced before. I also got a new controller in the box with it and an EU plug. :good:
Anyways, my point is that it shouldn't matter where it was purchased. Try that link and see if you can't get it sorted.
I wish you the best!

I have the 2017 shield pro. and all though I wouldn't say it has been a nightmare, it hasn't been without its problems; such as apps randomly not responding with a message saying close the app or wait...slow down of apps opening at all to include settings not opening...streaming apps to include Netflix not playing or simply force closing...even Leanback Launcher stopping with the message Leanback Launcher has stopped...close or wait....I finally bit the bullet after posting on this forum and getting no response and did a wipe of data and dalvic from TWRP and re-flashed the 6.1 or 6.2 firmware. It seems to be running smooth so far. Got my shield from amazon. wouldn't expect this many problems from a $300 device that claims to be the best on the market. When it works without problems it is a great device!
Hope you get it sorted out. If nothing else works, it may be worth it to fastboot boot TWRP if you have an unlocked bootloader...wipe data and dalvic and install the 6.1 firmware update.
Real sorry to here you had so many problems Mate. Hope they sort it for you ....But if they fail to deliver (which they really should not, Take no excuses from them ,Polite but firm)
You have the option to get a Donner clone from a thread based in these forums ,along with further help in the threads below.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/guide-migrate-to-ssd-hdd-size-satv-pro-t3440195
I would almost Guarantee that it is your Hard drive at fault ...as your descriptive clearly points to this as the culprit.
I have read a number of post and comments in them threads ,and it is invaluable ... I am Dam sure many will bend over backwards to help you out.
Real shame the same can not be said concerning NVIDIA ...Hopefully they see your Dilemmas and respond dutifully.
Good Luck!

Xtrons TR100 Nightmare......

Xtrons TR100 UltraOcta T8 stuck in boot loop from trying to install Magisk via their manager and can't figure out how to get this thing into recovery mode. I've talked with a rep from Xtorns about this issue and he informed me that I'd have to do a "Key Wire to Ground" in order to get into recovery. He also stated that if I had my SWC hooked up I could just press any button along with the reset but yet that doesn't work either. I've gotten as far as seeing a screen that says "Start Upgrade" but then it goes right back into boot loop. I've never felt so defeated in my life..... I've reached out to some that have the same unit but haven't gotten any reply.

Holly hell! I've been looking for that video, I knew I had seen one somewhere. TY!! I'm going to go try now. I've been in contact multiple times with them via email and pm's but they are so limited on they way they give instructions. They are like hold them for 3 secs and it should go into recovery. So if the "Key 1" wire is the ground then it really shouldn't matter which button I press. But there's still a sequence that needs to be done. I think from what I seen in the video he holds the "Key 1" wire to the chassis. clicks the "Reset Button" turns on ACC then hits the "Reset Button" again all while holding the "Key 1" wire grounded. I'll watch one more time. Also I got the files from Xtrons I've upgraded my system in the past just putting the 4 files on a USB stick. But doing it this way do I need to leave as .Zip? Does it need to be renamed? Thanks for the help! I'll let you know if this works......... :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Yea this thing simply will not load into recovery. I get the Start Update with what looks like a bar in the middle of the screen and then back to boot loop. Do I need to create a boot SD to bypass?

I think you need try the entire sequence without SD card os USB connected to the unit.
After you get into recovery, need only use the "firmware file" update.zip placed in SD card or USB root.
There is another video with different sequence; myabe this work for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPQgV_55Rkk

If you are in warranty time, that's maybe a better solution; last resource is @marchnz [PX3 & 5] [OTG] - No Headunit Mod, recover or flash a SOM with a simple USB cable

I've been wondering if there was a way to hook up this edge note via usb to this thing to see if I can maybe see what's going on some how?? I've been on google for hours looking for something but everything seems like you need to hook it up to a pc. Guess I'll just run a long ass USB cable out the window and leave the care running. LOL
Welp...... I've been on the phone with Amazon all morning. The lady that was helping me wanted to see what she could do about just giving me a refund and then me buying another one, then ship this one when it comes. So she puts me on hold for a while and comes back and said that the guy wouldn't let her give me a full refund in credit. They could only do $219!!! Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!? So i spoke with a supervisor and got it taken care of so now i'm sitting here thinking. Do I really want to go back to a unit that I don't know how to get into recovery if something happens again. So do i pay the extra 14 bucks for the XTRONS 7 Inch Android 8.0 Octa Core 4G RAM 32G ROM and lose the screen size but it be flush. I'm going down in screen size but gaining Rockchip octacore PX5 A 53 architecture 64 bit cpu and 4 gb DDR3 kingston memory.
Personally, I'd go for the smaller screen size with more RAM (twice as much), a faster processor and physical buttons (personally, I don't think I'd ever get a unit without a rotary volume control!). Like you said, you don't want to get stuck in this same situation again later where you can't get into recovery if you need to... Yes, a larger screen is nice, but it's not worth it in this case (IMO).
But, with that being said, the difference between 7" and 10.1" is significant. Not sure how used to 10.1" you are or if the larger screen is very important to you - but you'd be surprised how much of a difference there is between a 7" and 10.1" screen!
Just my two cents.
