Hi everyone,
I've an old unused Galaxy Note N7000.
Do you think it could be possible to turn it into a retro games emulation station?
Is there any ROM built for that?
Or it has to be done through Android and other apps (such as RetroArch).
I would like to build a handheld console for retrogaming with a controller that holds the smartphone.
any advice?
this post is useful but obviously it is pretty outdated:
Galaxy Note Games
Games for Samsung Galaxy Note Last update: Tuesday 13th of November, 2011 NB: Some games developed for different chipsets (e.g. NVIDIA Tegra) can be run on the Note with the help of the Chainfire3D intermediary OpenGL...

tried retroarch. It's so slow even SNES games are slow.
Don't know if it's because of the core or other problems

I have emailed several times to gameloft enquiring if there would be any games available for galaxy 3 or they would make a lower version of their Android HD titles. Their reply was they can't tell about their future releases. I pesonally dont they would make any for galaxy 3. Recently I saw on youtube acer liquid running NOVA HD and Asphalt 5! I dont think acer liquid has got very ossom hardware. I know it has a better resolution than galaxy 3 but its processor is not very powerful as compared to galaxy 3. Is possible that we could run gameloft HD games on galaxy 3 somehow.

Unfortunately this phone has very ****y and exotic resolution which will be not much supported I think. It's a low cost. If you want to play better games you shold buy better phone
Anyway - why do we have a 3 topics per day about Asphalt II and GNU and Gameloft ?? It's easy: slow processor / exotic resolution. This device wasn't created for the top games.
hey guys, theres no video here but i contacted the guy who has the retail model of the galaxy s ii and i asked him to try out dungeon defenders.
he tried it and this what happenend:
"Currently all the startup pre-video things work fine, but the main menu-part is absent, only some green text near the top right hand corner saying "How to play". You hit that and it takes you to the tutorial, but nothing else seems to be there. Not sure what's going on "
any ideas whats going on here guys?
im thinking its got to do with graphics problems on gingerbread, but I might be wrong.
From his twitter:

Its because it wasn't built on/for the Mali 400 MP. Every hardcore game has different versions of it so as to accommodate the different GPU's. E.g. asphalt 6 has a version for powerVR sgx540 phones, whilst it has a different version for Adreno 205 and so on and so forth. So most hardcore games will have to be ported for the Mali 400MP, just like how it is being done for tegra devices now. Eg. Gameloft is making ports of every android game they have released for the tegra devices like the Atrix and Xoom.
look what i found
"the Galaxy S 2 is never anything less than blazingly, disgustingly fast. Dungeon Defenders, which uses the Unreal mobile engine, looks gorgeous and plays smoothly"
thats from this new review of the galaxy s ii from electric pig

Yeah I think that the version that he tested (on the OP post) was not compatible with the MALI400 GPU that's why it struggles like he said. That reminds me the exact same situation for the original Galaxy S when it was out there was one of the best game (if not the best game formerly) that had all the textures white and therefore was unplayable : Gangstar west coast hustle. That took about a month and a version made for the galaxy S was out with even better graphics than other version, and nowadays every game has a "galaxy S" version so don't worry too much bro
They don't necessarily need to make separate versions for different GPUs as the APIs are the same, but as with desktop cards you need to do compatibility testing. There's also a question of optional features which might be present on some GPUs but not all.
I hope and believe Galaxy S II will be very successful, at which point everyone will have to make sure their game works on Mali 400 as well as SGX, Tegra 2 and Adreno.
I come from a Nexus 7, and just figured that anything that was THD or Tegra-optimized, would have the best graphics available, and would only run on Tegra hardware.
So with the Nexus 4 having better hardware then the 7, would it be able to run these THD/Tegra-optimized games? I would think the only thing that might stop a THD game from working on non-Tegra hardware is if it used some Nvidia-specific GL extension or something, but idk.
Some games I had in mind were DEAD TRIGGER (They have a Tegra version, and a normal version, but would the normal version be the only choice?), Fruit Ninja THD, and Shadowgun.
Tegra-specific apps won't work on non-tegra chips. That used to be amendable by using Chainfire 3D, but development on that has ceased
with Dead Trigger you can enable the tegra 3 water effects and stuff by modifying one of the game config files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28264365&postcount=54
A little bump but i wanted to try arma but its tegra only...is there any way to bypass it?to actually play tha game?
Nvidia shied support many games which are one of the best games of android like The amazing spider man 2 , Xcom etc but well the sad part is both games doesnt support our tegra note any one knw y?? Both have genrely same internals . !
Hi,
i have a Gigabyte Tegra Note 7.
Most things are running very well, but i have problems with some emulators.
Not one emulator for Gameboy, NES or SNES runs completely smooth.
And yes, i tried nearly all of them. I am normally using: GBC.emu, NES.emu and SNES9x EX+
My Galaxy S4mini is only half as fast, but can run all emulators smooth and without jigger(ing)(?).
I also have a cheap Dual-Core Tablet (50% slower then the S4mini) with the same problem, but its rooted.
And setting the CPU to steady 1.5GHz on both cores solves the problem.
But i can`t do this on my Tegra Note 7 without rooting.
And no one is answering here:

(Will the supertool work on my device?)
Does some one has similar problem with emulators on a Tegra Note 7 device?
Maybe the problem is unique to the Gigabyte device only?
Can some one help me please?
cu and thx
And sorry for the bad English!
My Boy gba emulator runs quite nicely. Consumes less battery than the .emu equivalent and it has probably the best features. Even worth paying for the ad-free version imo.
