2019 Nividia Shield TV Pro XCIPTV Player TV Guide Crashes App Fix
The cause is having a USB device integrated storage instead of removable storage.
1) Go to Storage and eject the USB storage device and unplug
2) Forget USB storage device
3) Depending how many of your apps were removed by removing the USB storage device you may have to reinstall downloader or whatever app you use to install XCIPTV Player
4) Reinstall Alien XC Player
5) Check That TV Guide now works
6) From this point you can reconnect the USB storage device and you can either reintegrate the USB device or Add it as removable storage the TV guide should still work
7) Reinstall all the apps you lost by ejecting and forgetting the USB storage device

Not sure how widely known or unknown the whole topic is, but I haven't found a specific guide for the device. If unnecessary, delete this thread.
So, before starting, I'll let you know what I used.
- A car with a USB entrance (2011 Honda City, in my case)
- A phone (I am currently using a gt-i9300 with temasek's CM10.1, may or may not work with others)
- SGS3 Easy UMS
- (Optional, may be necessary): USB to microUSB cable
- (Optional, may or may not work otherwise) A microSD card, also known as an external memory card.
So, to summarize, I'm using a 64GB (FAT32 formatted) microSD card, with my GT-i9300 with an AOSP rom and a Honda City.
I am also storing ALL my music on the external SD card. I am unaware if this works on the internal SD card, since I have NO music files on there and I haven't bothered to try it out.
Steps I have taken to get it working:
1- Connect to the car's USB port.
2- Run SGS3 Easy UMS
3- Give root permissions and select UMS mode (will take roughly 5 seconds to activate).
4- That's it. Don't forget to set your device to MTP if necessary (if connecting to computer or whatever, and it's not recognized in UMS mode).
Alternatively, in my case it doesn't work anymore after I replug the USB cable. Using the "Mount card" or "MTP" options does nothing for me, and there are 2 ways to get it back working:
1- Reboot
or
2- Go to storage -> Unmount card -> Mount card back again -> select UMS mode again.
Images attached as proof.
This look cool. I am wondering about streaming music. I'm continuing to search for a way to pandora or spotify via USB with my GS3 in my 2014 accord. I'm rooted running a 4.3 based touchwiz rom.
Has anyone found a solution for that? Will running the app you mentioned make that possible or is it just for local content?
So i have a Nexus Player with Marshmallow 6.0 intalled (rooted). I have 2 usb sticks (16Gb & 32Gb) both are SanDisk USB 3.0 Sticks. Both are formatted using the Nexus Player "Storage & Reset" option.
With the latest ES File Manager and SuperSU i try to create certain folder within the USB sticks, but every time it says: "Please choose the root directory XXXXXX of ext-SDCard to grant ES permission to operate". I have StickMount installed and gave it grant permissions with SuperSU. Did not do any good..
From research on the internet i understand that marshmallow no longer allows external sd card nor USB sticks as external storage?
Is there a way to fix (bypass) this?
Did a search on this, but unfortunately without any success..
Both USB's are recognized when i start up ES File Manager, but as soon I want to create/copy a folder to one of the USB stick, is says sorry action failed.
ALso tried to start Root explorer from within ES File Manager but again it says: "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your device".
Anybody?
I would like to know this as well. I currently use two 1TB hard drives on my NP on 5.1.1. It would be really nice to be able to update to 6.0, but the last time I tried that I could not get my drives to work.
Not sure if this is a solution you are looking for, but I am my Nexus Player on Marshmallow 6.0. I have a 5 TB usb drive attached to my Netgear R7000 router. I have successfully network mounted (over wifi) my drive and all apps see it natively. No need to use the Nexus Player USB port. I wrote these instructions a little over a year ago and they still work for Android 6.0
Well, im not much of a fan of gaming but when i had a game of fortnite i was hooked.
Unfortunately my PC only has a 120GB SSD and as a computer programmer/software engineer i can really use any of that space.
So i explored alternatives.
Ive made a youtube video demonstating this and an instruction set below. theres also proof its running off the USB drive for any of you sour fellas out there.
Video tutorial with proof - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieQUl0w1BY8
Requirements - a 32GB or more USB stick or HDD
NOTE: all data on the drive will be deleted. so if your planning on storing other stuff on it move it to another location before formatting, then put your files back onto it after formatting
Instructions -
1. Head over to https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite and download fortnite
2. Insert your USB stick or Portable HDD
3. Right click on it and select format
4. Change the Filesystem type to NTFS
5. Click format
6. Install the file you downloaded from epic games, keep clicking next as its the launcher and not the game
7. Sign in to your epic games account
8. When the launcher opens click install and change the installation folder to your USB or HDD
9. Wait for installation to complete.
10. Like, Share and Subscribe for more great content!
How did i figure this out?
First i tried changing the installation directory to my 32GB usb drive, installation kept repeating itself multiple times and not finishing.
So i did a little research and checked out the installation on my friends computer.
Apart from a few 4.5GB files and some registry entries, the game could very well be portable.
The registry entries are only for the launcher, the fornite games data is stored locally within the Fortnite installation folder.
So whats the issue? Simple. The USB filesystem type. by default a USB is fortmatted to a FAT32 filesystem, that doesnt support storing files larger than 4GB.
Thats why when you format it to NTFS it works.

Right it's wrecking my head
I got a Samsung t5 for nvidia shield. Did a factory reset and upgraded everything. Then I connected t5 directly to the shield and formatted it. Under device storage it has internal shared storage and under this is Samsung USB drive.
I downloaded stbemu from play store and it is on the Samsung USB drive but everytime I open the app it crashes. No option to use unknown sources for this app under security and restrictions and I have given it permission.
I removed and reinstalled and same issue. Previously I downloaded few apps and some one not open either?
This is the exact same thing that is happening when I had usb key so bought Samsung t5 to fix this??
Also I can't add another Google account to shield?
Is there anything I am doing wrong?
More than likely
Dupe post
Why are you trying to run apps from the Samsung USB drive? The Shield is still an Android device running a version of Android Oreo--unless you rooted your device I don't think Android Oreo allows you to run apps from anyplace other than the internal device storage--you can't run apps from SD Cards or USB drives.
Issue was I updated something from Aptoide i should haven't had.
Removed updates deleted Aptoide and now everything works. Managed to format ssd on laptop and now set up as internal storage
I have used the app “Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for usb by Paragon software” to mount a NTFS drive to the switch. I can use the app “x-plore” to browse my 1TB drive and can play all my songs and media. However I cannot find the drive in the kodi app. I would greatly like to be able to add all my media to the kodi library.
Any suggestions guys?
I think the reason this isn't working in Kodi is because the android system isn't recognizing the usb drives, they're only being recognized through third party apps. Until the android system itself is able to see the drives under the storage option in the system menu, we're not going to be able to get this to work.

I have found a solution. First you need to root the switch with magisk. Next install the app called stickmount.
If you'd like more details. I plan to write a more in-depth guide.
