Hi All,
I know this doesn't exactly fit into this forum but I wanted to say this forum is a wealth of knowledge for people like myself who are explorering what their Windows mobile devices can really do. I've been a lurker for years but wanted to let you all know about a special event I'm running at the start of April (4th-5th).
Its called "Over the Air" and has a tag line of 48 hours of mobile development. So basically its a chance to spend a weekend learning, experimenting and hacking around with mobile and wireless devices.
I'm already expecting lots of iphone, linux, java, symbian and even adrioid hackers to turn up but whats missing is the XDA/WM community. Hence it would be great if any of you can make it and show off some of the simply stunning things your doing with HTC hardware.
The event is completely free and will take place at Imperial College in Central London, UK. We have discount hotel places for those who are coming from far and already BBC mobile, BBC Backstage, Momo Monday and Vodafone are onboard. We talking to many different companies about running sessions and sponsorship of free data simcards for the 2 days.
So I hope to see some of you there...
If you need any more information or would like to sponsor the event please contact me off list
Hello all.
Today, i've starting building the first of many cellular penta-band/quad-band antenna prototypes i will be working on during the following year as a part of my final project in engineering.
I will be building different prototypes for different companies and selling them with my project advisor (one apparently known to be the biggest specialist in antennas in Israel).
Now, as this is electronics engineering - not software engineering, i'm not required to provide anything software related .....
BUT, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in working on an application which would receive feedback from cellular devices and supply specifications on their antenna type.. from praise and gain to whatever else is related to antennas and can be snatched out using a regular cellular signal detection.
I will, of course, throughout the following year, provide a full notebook (in parts) of details with all math required.
I am aware of the fact that not many people deal with this type of programming... and this is where "might involve payment" comes into the picture. in the end of the year, i'm supposed to give in a final project report with all products, production files and electronic testing notebooks. If i give a dedicated software, which cannot be found anywhere else, I might be able to sell it along with the prototypes. Fees will be discussed if this reaches a high level of interest (which is where "might" comes in). You can see it as any other project in XDA-devs...
I can't promise ANYTHING to the programmer in advance, but i CAN promise that if a company is interested in this software (and I, along with my advisor, will try to sell it wide-world), you will be either filthy rich (because it can go for something like 250$ a license) or receive many job offers revolving around the cellular-software world... or both.
If anyone is interested in this project, please PM me.
Now, as i would like XDA-devs to profit from this as well, I will ask the programmer to release about 2-3 expiry versions of this program (without the source-code of course) before the final release, so that people can test them and give feedback while enjoying them (of course.. if they have any interest in it).
I will keep this thread on for as long as I see action. That is, if i see people are interested in this area, i would gladly have this thread running cellular antenna development issues/applications/tests.. and so forth. If i see it dies.. I will close it.
Cheers
Nir
Got to start somewhere.
This is the first of a couple of posts on xda-dev I plan to have, as Cisco begins to engage Android developers like yourselves, now that we're coming out with the Cius for the enterprise market. As a long time Android advocate & user myself, I'm pretty jazzed to engage developers wanting to create profitable business apps.
More to come later, but for now I want to point out that we released the Cius SDKv1 today, and we're looking for developer input on what you need in the next release for creating killer solutions.
As we honestly want to converse with you guys and get your input (as opposed to spamming), yet our engineering team can't be everywhere (and I know that's who you really want to be engaging), I'd ask that your suggestions & questions happen on the Cius forum at the Cisco Developer Network site.
I know your wondering why didn't I put this in the original thread. I felt that that post had had it's run & this would be extremely valuable to a lot of people even folks who hadn't read the original. This is an extensive interview with the developer & gives a very insightful overview of the tablet industry. I would really appreciate all of your thoughts/views on it.
Thanks,
Bob W

mmm I wonder what happened, just saw this checking the kickstarter:
Funding Canceled
Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator about 3 hours ago.
Either they sold it to someone else, or they went bust, or they realised they couldn't pull off their promises.
And it's none of the above

They had the member of their team in charge of the amazon payment account leave, so they have to re-open the kickstarter account under a new name, supposed to happen in a few days, below are the updates they gave supporters.
Hi Kickstarters,
What a strange week it has been. We went from a giant high to what might be a big low. Kickstarter is an amazing platform but a really difficult one for anyone outside of the United States. In order to set up a kickstarter account, you have to use Amazon Payments and in order to use Amazon Payments you have be an American citizen. Luckily for us, we had that covered. At least we did until today. As with any team, you can't expect all the members to stay part of the team forever. One team member's departure meant the departure of the Amazon Payment account. We are currently setting up another account and should have that done within a day and we are doing our best to contact Kickstarter to ask that we simply switch Amazon Payment accounts. As of the time of writing this post, I'm not sure if that will work. The worst case situation is that the project gets suspended. Suspended projects on Kickstarter are never renewed.
So, I am sending out this update in case the project gets suspended. If it does get suspended, please contact us at: http://www.teknision.com/chameleon-news. We are fully committed to launching Chameleon. Nothing will stop us from taking it to market. We still plan on honouring you, our backers, who have made this possible. I can only be honest in what is going on and promise to do our best to make everything good.
Keep the faith, fingers crossed and stay tuned.
Hi Everyone.
After speaking with the good folks at Kickstarter, we can now confirm that they will not be able to switch our Amazon payments account - it is simply not possible to 'swap' when you are dealing with credit card processing and authorizations. While it is disappointing, we understand these protocols are there for good reason. To protect your financial information.
Unfortunately this means we will have to manually 'close' this project, and your pledged amounts will not be charged. We are very sorry for this inconvenience -believe me, this is not the kind of customer experience we wanted to deliver.
There is some good news however. Kickstarter have told us we are allowed to initiate a new project and can accept your pledges there!
The only catch is that once we have the new project live, you will have to go and re-pledge on the new project (we will give you the new project link when it becomes available). We understand the inconvenience this may cause, which is why, for your time and patience, we will be upgrading all of the rewards with an additional 5 Chameleon backgrounds. We are aiming to have the new Kickstarter project live by early next week.
I hope you understand, and bear with us as we get over this hurdle. If you are disappointed with us, I understand that too. As I stated before, we have every intention of delivering world class software to our customers. We love the passion that Chameleon has sparked and we intend to develop long lasting relationships with our customers.
Stay tuned for new instructions next week, and thanks for your patience.
Hi everyone!
Today we are working on closing the current Chameleon project. While Kickstarter and Amazon payments have been very helpful and supportive, based on our discussions with them, the best solution is to start a new project. By closing the current project, there is no question about our intentions with your current pledges. You are also free to cancel your own pledge.
We are working to get the new Chameleon Kickstarter project up for next week, so stay tuned.
Even with this project being closed, we will still be able to share the link to the new Kickstarter project. Don't forget, your existing pledges will not be charged. Expect an update next week.
In the meantime, we have included a development update for everyone. With some surprises. So enjoy!
How do Canadians contribute?
Well, that sounds like a massively annoying situation to be in. For someone to leave that suddenly too, doesn't seems like it was amicable...
I hope they can sort out the problems without too many more difficulties.
MOD EDIT: Thread closed. Please use the existing thread, thanks!

[Announcement] Week 49: Get ready, India. We are coming
VikasAdministratorStaff Member
Hello everyone,
It always feels great to bring smiles to our ardent followers. We appreciate the positive feedback received on our previous week’s announcement. This week we have even bigger and better news to share - something that everyone has been waiting patiently to hear.
Firstly, we are thrilled to confirm that the One will be available for our Indian users in December. We can’t wait to bring your favourite phone to your hands. As all the details have now been perfected and last-mile hurdles have been cleared, the exact launch date will soon be announced in the coming days on our forums.
As announced earlier, the product will be exclusively available through our e-commerce partner for users who have a valid India-specific invite. This is to ensure that all of our fans across India can easily buy the product online or through a mobile app without having to worry about payments, logistics or support.
The other key element that everyone has been waiting for is price. While we obviously can’t share the price at the moment, I can confidently suggest that it is priced at a very competitive price point.
Secondly, we have recently launched a contest to win India specific invites in celebration of our first anniversary. We are totally impressed with the enthusiasm and creative talent of our Indian fans. To our passionate fans, thanks once again and a sincere request to share your entries on your favorite platforms as well to spread the love. Today is the last day of our very first*India specific contest and you can still submit your entry here*by 10.30 PM today if you have not participated yet.
In case, you were not able to participate or did not win the coveted invite this time, don’t worry this is just the beginning and we have many more surprises up our sleeves in coming days. But for now, we’d like to thank all the participants and congratulate lucky winners who will get an opportunity to own the mighty One very soon.
How soon? Well, sooner than most people expect. We pride ourselves in positively surprisingly our fans and this time will be no exception.
Lastly, we have few other smaller yet important good news to share. The Indian team is set to expand as we have narrowed down our search to handful of individuals and will hopefully have them on-board very soon. In addition, we will be moving to our first local office next month. Recently, we also crossed*5,000 likes on our Facebook page*in less than a month. Do join us on Facebook in case you have not already done so.
We are excited to work together with you as we move forward. Keep watching this space for more updates as we will be back very soon. As always, your feedback and suggestions are welcome.
Never Settle.
