Help regarding BSOD - Windows 10, 8, 7, XP etc.

I am using Windows 10 Pro 21H1 19043.1081 build in my desktop pc. My RAM stick and HDD both are healthy and fine. I have 4 GB DDR3 RAM with 4GB GPU. From around 2 weeks I am facing BSODs on my PC with errors as MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and KERNEL_IN_PAGE_ERROR when I try to play the games. Previously I never get this error while playing the same game but now I am getting this. I have tried memory diagnostics, chkdsk, sfc/scannow also but none were able to find the issue in system. Can anyone help me in finding a fix for this issue please? I am very much frustrated with this error as I don't know what is causing the issue and how to fix it. I hope I will get help soon.

Ran memtest already? Also, did you install any new drivers/apps?

If you updated the drivers, then try rolling them back to the previous version.

SD Memory card issues on HTC

Hi,
Recently bought a SHIFT. Fantastic device. Only problem is SD card shows error when removed and re-inserted.
Once re-inserted, the card is not visible. Under device manager, the following error is listed:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.
(Code 38)
Suprisingly enough, the resolution suggested by our good friends at MS is to Reboot the device. Obviously this works, but the problem comes back once the card is removed again.
I have tried pretty much everything, include waving a magic feather across the keyboard, with no luck.
Things I have tried:
1. Clearing the INF cache - to rebuild he caceh files, as suggested by some forums - FAILED
2. Re-loaded entire O/S (from Fn+F3) and applied SP1 (no other software loaded onto it). Although this was fantastic for the overall operation/performance of the device, still - FAILED
3. Tried different SD cards - FAILED
4. Waive magic feather - FAILED, although it made me sneeze a few times
Note about (3) - SD cards used, 256MB Sandisk (40x), 2GB 50x Sandisk Extreme II, 8GB SDHC Extreme III C6 card. No MMC/XD tried, and don't intend to.
System Note:
Device is Standard HTC Shift, Vista Business 6.0.6001 SP1 Build 6001.
I would greatly appreciate suggestions or assistance. I would love to get this working, as ReadyBoost + 4GB C6 card will truly boost a 1GB device like this.
PS: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SP1, and if you are not a visual junky like me, goto Performance settings and kill all the Vista fancies (i.e. it will basically look like XP once you do that). The device is super-fast for me, running Next-G on it. I use it with a very bulky share trading package (uses DotNet1.1) and it is very smooth.
Well I am facing simila problem. help would be very much appreciated.
I will try your advice on using SP1.
CTS
SP1 will definitely improve performance. I found that installing SP1 after I have installed software caused problems, especially anti-virus.
Read my post on re-install Vista and applying SP1, that seemed to work perfectly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384333&page=2
I'm having this same issue. I've already installed SP1, and am not keen on reinstalling the whole system just to fix this one small issue.
Apologies, I'm just writing a "me-too" post so I can get a notification if anyone suggests another solution.
do you have zone alarms installed by any chance? i had a problem where drivers wouldnt load for wifi, bluetooth, card reader and other devices but after uninstalling zone alarm, the problem ceased to exist.
No Zone Alarm here
Hi,
Perhaps my note was unclear. SP1 DID NOT resolve the issue, it did boost performance significantly. So if you have installed SP1 and still getting SD issues, you can hop into the same boat!
Specifically related to this post is the SD memory card issue - after reboot, inserting and removing card, putting PC to sleep/hibernate causes "SD driver instance in memory issue".
I am assuming this will definitely be an issue across all HTC SHIFTs using SD, if anyone has successfully used an SD card with the SHIFT (as in doesnt get the problem stated above), please post a note with the driver details (version, date, filenames) thanks. Note that the drivers will be listed under the "Disk Drives" category of Device Manager, not the controller.
arvinf,
I am using a 16gb sdhc having 4gb reserved for Readyboost. I keep readyboost always active, and the sd is always visible after resume. I hope it helps

my SD is fine after sleep and after hibernation too, tried reinsertion, fine so far.
vista is annoying with this popup asking if i want to scan the sd contents
anyway, driver version for sd under disk drives is 6.0.6000.16478 (from microsoft). (no SP1 yet, WM side is more important now)
the SD is a topram 2GB.

Was the shift on the charger or with battery only?
What powerplan do you use?
When my Shift is on the charger I hardly ever have problems, but using the battery.....Brrrrrr,.

I usually have it on battery to keep the battery cool (and so prolong its life).
my powerplan is customized powersaving plan. but all I really did was turn brightness lower so that it lasts 3+ hours on battery (bit less than 3 with wifi) and adjust sleep/screen turn off timeouts.
No idea why, but I am not losing my 16 GB SDHC card any more. Neither from Hibernate, nor from sleep.
Even using Power Saver.
With or without the charger plugged in......
Maybe changing/swapping SD cards gave the problems.
I keep a log now and keep you informed.
settings:
Readyboost ON (4 GB)
Power Saver ON
strange...

same problem also. That code 68 error is also eating up my hapyness. It seems the problems apear somewhat randomly in my case.
Same here,
The readyboost solution didn't work for me..
No I loose the SDHC even after sleep
After coming back from sleep mode I see the SDHC 16 gb card but cannot open it.
There is this grey bar on top that fills slowly, but still, the SD card does not show its contents.
Every other program works fine.
Using readyboost.
Then I could not restart so had to force it.
I will call my lawyer?
Huib
Guys,
I dont beleive the solution will relate to power plans, on battery, etc.
There are a couple of posts here and there that suggest there may be an inherent bug in Vista on some SD card readers, and the SHIFT may be one of them.
I re-iterate the issue is SD card is not recognised once it is removed and inserted, and has an error in device manager "another instance of the driver is in memory".
I noted that CMONEX uses a different version of the driver than me (mine is 6.0.6001.18000.
Anyone else who has successfully inserted/removed memory card with this version driver? Perhaps I have a buggy driver?
FYI this post on another site is exactly the same issue:
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31492924/bug-in-sd-memory-card-dri.aspx
I also have this problem on a Shift with Norwegian Vista.
Sometimes the card is still accessible after sleep/ hibernation or reinsertion but more often than not the driveletter disappeares and when looking in Device Manager the card is shown but with an exclamation mark and text telling me that another instance of the driver is already loaded (like others here have reported).
A full restart or first insertion of the card will invariably be successful, giving me access to the SD-card.
I'm feeling a bit silly bringing this up, but for some reason I can not seem to find/activate ReadyBoost on my Shift. It is available (at least the option to test the flash-mem) on other computers I have, but on my Shift the option is just not there. Does anyone have any suggestions?
in my case i can't see the card at all after the device wakes from standby. No drive letter, no icon no nothing.

[Q] Windows 8 overheating my ultrabook

Strange little problem I’ve got here. I’m using the brilliant Asus UX31E ultrabook which is a 1.8ghz i7.
Didn’t have any problems running windows 7, but just installed a fresh windows 8 last week.
I’ve installed all the updates I could find from the ASUS website but here’s the problem, with windows 7 the fans would only ever come on if you were really pushing it playing a game. Using windows 8 the fans will regularly come on just browsing in chrome.
when you open task manager the computer details recognise that it’s only a 1.8 processer yet it often is being utilized as high as 2.8ghz! This is making the machine overheat, turn on the fans and sometimes have to turn itself off.
I’ve been into power settings and reduced the maximum power usage to 70% and that usually does the job, but then it quickly forgets this setting and restores it to 100% (2.7GHZ!). In task manager the highest task utilisation wise is ‘system’ but no idea exactly what it’s doing..
Is there anything I can do to have greater control over the processor speed or investigate what might be causing the problem?
Asus had some power control software for windows 7 but don’t seem to offer it for windows 8.
Cheers guys

Have you done a upgrade or clean installation from windows 8
if you had done a upgrade please do a clean installation of windows 8
if not then go to the advance power settings in the control panel and set processor cooling state to active

I was wondering if it was a true clean install or upgrade. I read he installed a fresh copy nut wasn't sure if that was meaning clean (wiped the drive) or what. I didn't really notice.alot of heat issues with my last laptop I upgraded; I chose to keep personal files and settings. I do have about 180gb of pictures and movies which were scattered in multiple locations on win7. Now my media is very orderly, as well as my 20gb of music.
Saying all that, I believe when I installed the media center that it cleaned up my files, or it may have just been windows 8, but either way it took some work on wimdows8 to organize my hard drive much better than before. I have scanned my hd for the need to defrag it, but it shows to be dang near perfect. If you have alot of media on your machine I wonder if its doing file management, which is making it run hot, etc. I know phones are different but when I load a new ROM it takes it several hours to slow down the media system usage.
How many days have you been running the system with wimdows8 ? Do you have a lot of Files/media on your machine ?

The majority of the time, the issue isn't with the Operating System as much as it is with a single application. Check task manager while your computer is running and see what applications are causing the processor to go nuts. If it is indeed a system application, then I would suggest doing a complete wipe and fresh install of Windows 8. You can back up your authentication key by saving a specific folder in the File Browser. Do a search on MyDigitalLife for that information.
Doing a quick search on your Processor, it runs standard at 1.8 ghz, and the 2.9 jump is completely normal. It's a feature called "Turbo Speed". With Windows 8 came upgraded drivers, which probably enabled this feature that you've never noticed.

yes it is true
whoever each and every application running sometimes FC itself or crashes while operation which leaves a unmarked thread or loos end of the application (which also termed as viruses when they start further spreading the system)
in system which were already troubling you creates a problem due to upgrade

ASUS PC is acting weird

Guys,
I know that my question might be kind of off-topic in this section, but I'm desperate and it is still has to do with Windows 8, so:
I've got 3 year old ASUS K52Jc (i5 2.52GhZ, 4GB RAM, 600GB HDD, nVidia GeForce 310m + Intell HD Graphics) and as you see, it is a good mid-range machine even nowadays. I always took a good care of it.
So, lately (since the first time I installed Windows 8) it has strange behavior. It tragicly slowed down and started to heat, sometimes it's just blocks while I listening to music even on Windows 2.95 (very lightweight player) with no progs running. First I thought that it's happening because of Windows 8 drivers compatibility, so I decided to format and install Windows 7 again, but nothing changed. It is very strange because it blocks when I do normal stuff (internet, listen to music, watching movies, etc.) but when I edit movies (in After Effects CS5.5 and Premiere CS 5.5) and while I'm running heavy programms/games, my laptop performs great.
Lately, I've installed Windows 8.1 and problem is still there. I did chkdsk, ccleaner maintense, defragmented with defraggler, I've got good antivirus, and I did latest BIOS update, nothing changed. I've got services and startup programs well configurated.
This is very strange behavior and it's annoying. Is there any chance that someone in XDA could identify the problem and tell me solution?
P.S. Last month I cleaned fans and changed the thermo-paste. No luck, it's slow, has lags, has heating, it freezes randomly. And the worse of all is that any diagnostic I do tells me that there is no problem in software and hardware.
:crying::crying:
Any solution for me?
Most likely problem is the disk; did you do a thorough scan or just a file system scan? Another possibility is the RAM, but that's unlikely. Also, have you actually checked the CPU and GPU temperatures?
Also, for the record, 4GB of RAM is really marginal for a PC these days; I've got a 5-year-old tablet with that much. Normally I'd suggest increasing that to fix perf issues, but it sounds like that's *probably* not the problem. Keep an eye on utilization just in case.

If it's acting up and there's no hints in even Task Manager of something chewing up resources, CPU could be running at base speed (SpeedStep). I had this problem in my wife's BRAND NEW i7-3770k box that I built and it turned out to be faulty RAM and possibly bad mobo. (I never re-tested mobo after I yanked it.)
So my suggestion - if you can try RAM one stick at a time. Also consider testing for several runs under MemTest. See if that helps confirm a RAM issue. If laptop is still under warranty, consider getting it looked at and make sure mobo isn't on it's way out.

Nexus 7 Running slow and freezing?

dunno why this keeps happening im on the stock 5.1.1 and after a few months of use the device becomes very laggy and slow then after a factory reset its fast again. anyone know why this happens? i usually leave 3gigs of free space on it at all times too.
Unfortunately it's a normal behaviour for our Nexus 7
If you are rooted, you can try to run FsTrim regularly which improves the situation a bit. You also should try to keep >= 4GB of memory free, this even helps.
Otherwise you will need to deal with it is some way.
hmm more than 4gb free, ok will try and clear up more space, iv unlocked the bootloader so can root easily too.
also read up a bit on file system journalling, any more information on this?
has anyone used this mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280496
also shouldnt the trim command be running automatically on its own?
got more info on this now, i think i will go the method of rooting first and use manual trimming method with an app like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer
reviews show its full of nexus 7 users lol.
so i rooted it last night and ran fstrim, it trimmed 5gigs. device is now back to its usual speed that a factory reset normally gives. issue resolved for now....

Shield pro with Samsung SSD - Storage Problems after 7.2 upgrade

I own a shield pro 2017.
I changed the SSHD with a Samsung EVO 860 SSD (lowlevel cloned from SSHD) some weeks ago.
Did nothing else. No rooting or bootloader opening or whatsoever
The shield was fast as hell before updating to 7.2.
Now it has MASSIVE problems with access to the internal drive.
It takes nearly half an hour to install an app.
In system settings, the internal storage is shown, but going to see the details it takes a very long time , also.
On the other hand, apps will start and play music and video files from the internal storage.
I have a lot of mp3 and aac music files on the storage.
It looks like a Process i do not know is running on the internal storage and taking the performance.
I stopped plex and emby server (had both on it to test which one is better for me) but no changes.
What can I do to get the performance back ??
I have no clue atm.
And what would happen if I put the Original SSHD back into the device ? It has 7.1 on it.
Well - I do not know which step is best to resume the issue.
Waiting, complete reset or something else ?
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE A NVIDIA SHIELD 16GB RUNNING 7.2 ANDROID.
I BOUGHT A Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E500B/AM) TO BE USED AS ADDITIONAL STORAGE TO RUN MY PLEX SERVER. I HAVE MY MEDIA FILES IN MY SYNOLOGY MOUNTED AS NETWORK STORAGE BUT WANTED THE PLEX TO HANDLE ALL TRANSCODING LOCALLY.
1)
I SET THE SSD AS A DEVICE STORAGE.
SHIELD FORMATS IT WITH NO PROBLEM AS ADOPTED INTERNAL STORAGE AND ENCRYPTS IT BUT AFTER A WHILE THE SHIELD BECOMES EXTREMELY SLOW IN RESPONSE. USING THE REMOTE TO BROWSE THROUGH THE MENU AND SELECTING APPS IS EXTREMELY SLOW.
2)
I RESTORED THE SSD TO FROM DEVICE STORAGE TO EXTERNAL STORAGE AND AFTER A WHILE THE SAME BEHAVIOR DESCRIBED ABOVE ON 1) HAPPENS.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SSD THOUGH. IF I FORMAT ON A PC IT WORKD JUST FINE, NO FLAWS. I INSTALLED THE MAGIC SOFTWARE FROM SAMSUNG IN THE PC AND TESTED THE BENCHMARKS AND IT IS JUST FINE.
I BELIEVE THERE MIGHT BE OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL.
ANY CLUES ? ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Most recent update is to blame I am sure, mine won't even startup now, was acting funny. I never did the SSD swap but I think I may to get it back up. I think the update is to blame for many problems.
Anyone have any luck yet? It's the 2015 Pro BTW. Just flashes green every time I touch the power on for one second but does nothing. I can hear the HDD spinning inside and it's not making any weird clicks or noises like a dying hard drive would??? Lost!!!
