Like other S models I've had the file system makes no sense. Many unused folders. The biggest issue right now is I have something called "Gallery.." and posts saved for later. How and where are the saved posts stored and reacquired? Where are the Gallery files stored? A jpg search finds DCIM files in the deivice and on the card. How does that happen? I haven't found options for image storage. Where is Gallery stored? Is it an apm file hidden from me? I bought this thing when I broke my S7. I didn't know OEM unlock wasn't included. I'm running Android 11. I'd pay money to get the thing rooted! I was planning on doin the thumb dances myself. Now I don't care. I don't use "Bixby" or assistant. I'd like to get assistant off the phone altogether..I have to shut the damned thing off all the time. I got some really raunchy images I need to encrypt or shred. Has anyone found a method (or vendor) for rooting a us S10+ ? Is there a PGP for android?

Hey everyone, I'm an idiot and completely forgot I encrypted the files on my SD Card. I installed a new ROM and now the images I previously had on the memory card are not able to be read by any software and the phone. My guess is, is that the encryption I had prior to flashing the new ROM has encrypted the file to where I can't even view them. Is there anyway to reverse this process? I know it defeats the whole prupose of encryption, but these pictures are important to me since they were pictures of my nephews at my cousin's wedding. I know they wouldn't be the greatest quality images, but I would still love to have them back. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated

Well, I have a feeling that you are out of luck here. Usually, encryption works with two keys: one at the source and one with the application that did the encryption. These keys are randomly generated. Since you wiped out the original ROM (and the encryption program and (probably) the 2nd key along with it), you are probably screwed. Sorry - wish I had better news. Now, there are special programs and stuff that break cryptography, and I don't know how secure the encryption with WM is, but that is probably not a practical solution. Sorry.
Well, that wasn't what I wanted to hear, but I feel it is the truth and accurate. I appreciate the response and explanation, thanks. Damnit, with my urgency to have the newest ROM, i lost some great pictures of family, oh well.
This is by design. The unique encription key is created during cold boot following a hardreset.

Ouch!!!!What a bummer
I almost did this with data on a PC which I sold last week. Copied files and tried opening them on my laptop. Luckily I still had the PC to unencrypt my FLICKS...LOL
Oops, that just reminds me I had an encrypted NTFS folder on the PC I upgraded to Vista last week (clean install). Usually never use that thing...
Meh, fortunately it was only an outdated copy of a folder I have on the main PC. But yeah, haven't even checked it, but there won't be any chance there either.
Fortunately I didn't encrypt my SD, as my phone now will just hang upon boot after I installed some program that screws up when loading the Today plugin. Hard reset in the way I guess... is there no safe boot in WM6?
So I downloaded some ringtones from myxer.com they show up and play through the settings fine. But I can't find the actual files themselves. I've looked in the sd download area. And internal media file and the stock ringtone file. Does anyone know where it would be?
how did you 'download' them? browser? mms?
I just looked, looks like through MMS. What ROM are you using? If you have cupcake, just open the message that you got the file from and save to the SD card, and it will be in the download area. If you don't have a cupcake ROM, then you are missing out on some features.
I'm using haykuros apd 1.5hr3 rom. I downloaded it through the browser. I'm a little new but I know the basics and some advanced since I've bricked my phone repetedly time and time again through trial and error . But I just can't seem to find it. Someone should try to download a ringtone from myxer.com dirctly from the g1 and let me know if u can find it
I see what you mean dude, I'm trying to find it now too.
Hmm.... Usually if you download anything it ends up in the Downloads folder. Next time make a copy of it or move it to your SD Card if you can.
Also the technical term of "bricking" means the device has rendered itself useless (no boot, no recovery etc, won't turn on at all), effectively turning it into a paperweight, like a brick ^_- Most likely you've meant that the device has "boot looped" instead.
I only say this because people are not using the terms correctly, confusing others. Its like people on Windows saying they've got a "virus" when a program crashes... Most likely that isn't the case.

Gotchya. Not bricking then. Infinate loop. Regardless, I've downloaded programs and roms dirctly from my g1 and using 2 sd cards flashed and etc. But this specifically doesn't go to the download folder
I'm hoping someone can tell me where to find the native D2 wallpaper that looks like a gray fingerprint swirl made of 1's & 0's - after installing apex2 rc2, I don't have it anymore :-<
I imagine that alternatively if someone can tell me where the current wallpaper we are using is stored in the directory tree structure, I can do a bootstrapped restore, save the file separately & then I'll be back in business w/that wallpaper again.
TIA, oldwolf
Here you go. It's the proper size and everything.
thanks so much! other droid sites have had a similar post for longer w/out any replies & less than 12 hrs later you came thru for me!
now I can go back w/out having to do a nandroid restore! w
Your welcome. I was looking for it too, figured I share the discovery.
all right, DeBaKai, now for another tap on the thanks bar- now that I told my D2 to use that pic in my Gallery->Download directory; do you know where the system has stored this 'new' wallpaper? & yes, I already backed up the pic w/MyBackup Pro ;-)
all the best, oldwolf
It should be in the "Download" folder.
sorry if I wasn't clearer- was not asking about storage location of image you were kind enuf to point me to after I d/l'ed it- but the storage location of the newly created wallpaper that I made fm your image via Settings->Wallpaper->Gallery- set as WP etc.
in other words by default, where does the OS keep the image file that is assigned as WP?
I'm guessing something like /system & some sub-folder...
all the best, oldwolf
Aaaaah......
I don't think it saves anywhere. I believe it just sets it as the wallpaper, and that's it.
so it is something like a win.ini file - so where is this setting made?
might as well get some more bkgd knowledge fm this...
Sorry, I really don't know.
Hi all,
First of all - forgive me if the subject has been up before - I did a bit of searching, but could't really find much about the subject.
I'm generally very pleased with the Mi A1 (my 4th "main" android phone after HTC Desire, SGS3 & OPO) but one thing that is giving me a bit of grief is this thing with access to my sd card, more precisely with copying content to the card by using different apps like root explorer, dropbox, dropsync pro etc.
Two very common actions in my usage are:
- Start an ftp-server on the phone and push new episodes of whatever tv-series I'm watching for the moment from computer to phone
- Open root explorer in my phone and copy stuff from my Dropbox folder to my phone (and back)
Neither of these actions can be done in my A1 (stock Oreo). The phone actually give the appearance of giving me the option to choose the sd-card but when trying to actually transfer something there it get's stuck before finishing or just return an error when trying.
So my question is - to get back to actually having rights to transfer stuff to my SD card without any problems, which of the below options would be the "easiest":
1. Does this work if I downgrade to Nougat?
2. Would rooting be enough if I stay on Oreo?
3. Can I transfer more freely with LOS 15.x?
4. Other options?
I actually found one thread mentioning this as a problem in stock Oreo so I know I'm not alone with the problem.
Thanks in advance,
/gosa
Hi,
Found this when searching Google for solutions this problem.
At the moment my only way of getting files onto the memory card is to download them to the internal storage and then using "Stock" file manager to copy them to the memory card... A bit to many steps if you ask me.
I was thinking that rooting might solve it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Here one more with the same problem. I have the My A1 in ROM Stock Oreo 8 with root via magisk, and it is tedious and annoying not to be able to write to the external SD. I use ADM, apps for downloads Torrent, Solid Explorer.
Having Root I had the opportunity to try several possible solutions. Here some of them (note: none worked, nor resolved) I expose them in case someone else wants to try, possibly something will work for them.
Root ??????
SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD. (Developed by NextApp)
Magisk Modules??????
App Systemizer
ExSDCard Access Enabler
Xposed ??????
Marshmallow SD fix
KitKat SD Card Full Access (Caution: gives many errors in OS)
Handle External Storage
One way to take it with Solid Explore (it's more visual than the Stock Explorer):
* Solid Explorer, to paste or write to SD, always go to Root / mnt / media_RW / SD Card
As I mentioned. None of the above worked for me.
The only way to solve the problem momentarily is to download and use the apps all in the internal memory, with the stock file explorer moving the files to the external SD in a step later.
If someone can give light to this problem or a possible solution I will be very grateful.
*(sorry for my English)
Have you tried binding folder/creating softlink
Could you explain how it is done? Or inform about the subject.
Just got 8.1 and the problem is gone.
Hello,
forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section.
I have a broken Mate 10 lite, screen is dead, phone lives.
Obviously i cannot manage from android since I cant see anything.
i can get into TWRP, USB debug and root seem to be fine, pulled some databases to transfer to my new phone.
The one thing i still need, are my notes. Mind you these were created with Notes app that came preinstalled on the phone.
Can anyone direct me as to where they are stored, etc. I desperately need my Notes.

I found the location of the application data - root/data/data/com.example.android.notepad . There is a "Files" folder, but it is empty (maybe just my problem, btw. my phone is running Nougat).
The second notepad's storage is located in internal storage - android/data/com.example.android.notepad . This folder is empty too . (I have a bunch of notes...)
Sorry, I can't help you anymore, Good Luck!
