Hello everyone
How to install magisk on lineageos 18.1?
I've downloaded/installed magisk.apk from official github website, but I cannot find clear steps about how to root the device, any help? thanks!
the device is sm-g900f
Download the magisk .apk to your phone and install it. Rename .apk to .zip and reboot to your recovery by holding volume up and home while powering on.
If using TWRP
Tap Install
Tap Install Zip to toggle the button
Select the magisk .zip file and flash
Reboot

Hi Boatshow,
great - worked for me with Magisk 23.0 perfectly - thank you so much!!! Installing first wasn't necessary so, I just downloaded to SD Card, renamed, installed with TWRP. Than I had to finish installing inside system, now all works well!
Hey guys!
New here and new to Android in general.
Instead of creating another thread and I will if its preferred, I wanted to ask how do I install Magisk without TWRP?
I'm on LineageOS 8.1 and my device is an OnePlus 8T.
The goal is to pass SafetyNet.

edit: possible human error.
Editx2: How crucial is it that I use this command to copy the patched image vs just dragging and dropping my phone to the pc?
Copy the patched image to your PC with ADB:adb pull /sdcard/Download/magisk_patched_[random_strings].img
My OnePlus 8T doesn't have an SD Card and I couldn't find the directory to run the command. Instead I dragged and dropped / copied from phone to PC - then flashed the patched boot.img.
After reboot my phone is stuck in the bootloader for LineageOS
How to install Magisk using Lineage Recovery? I installed LineageOS and my TWRP is gone, I now have Lineage Recovery. LeTv S3 Pro (X720).

Hi there, I have the same exact question here!
There seems to be no easy way to install TWRP on Pixel 3 XL...even if I would like to, as it would make full system backups a piece of cake!

You can install Magisk thru LineageOS Recovery Mode, just use adb sideload magisk.zip(rename magisk.apk into magisk.zip) after you've installed Magisk app on your phone.

I have read many threads and lots of videos and cannot seem to get the Magisk installed.
I have flashed back to stock many times with (N900VVRUEOF1_N900VVZWEOF1_N900VVRUEOF1_HOME.tar.md5) in order to try multiple methods.
Rooted with Arabictoolapp - used rootchecker to verify/application also says true for root
followed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...guide-ob6-of1-root-bootloader-unlock-t3439010
installed SU from playstore to unlock bootloader using the adp method - shows developer mode to verify - using eMMc to verify CID starts with 15
followed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...l/official-note-3-verizon-bootloader-t3359370
installed twrp using official twrp app & also tried ODIN in another trial (picked verizon americas and got twrp-3.2.3-0-hlte.img.tar and twrp-3.2.3-0-hlte.img )
turned phone off and boot into recovery to verify; at this time i created a recovery
using MagiskManager i downloaded the zip (Magisk-v18.1.ip) and flashed using twrp - no errors but when i restart the phone it says Magisk not installed
next attempt was to extract the boot.img from the stock OF1 and then flash the Magisk - no errors but when i restarted the phone it says the same thing - Magisk not installed
another attempt was to patch the boot.img and got a patch_boot.img then using TWRP i flashed the patch_boot.img - restarted and magisk not installed
after further digging, i tried another method which was to unroot using SU, reboot, go into recovery to then install Magisk - magisk not installed
*note each attempt to install Magisk unrooted my phone
*was able to use Magisk-uninstaller-20190204.zip to uninstall Magisk manager from recovery - icon went away
anyways i am completely stuck now. any suggestions or comments on my approach?

Try twrp 2.8.7 hltevzw. You are using the stock ROM which is android 5. Twrp 3.1 and higher is for android 7 and up. I missed that the first time I read your post.

what do you mean after normal reboot? so flash magisk in twrp. reboot. reboot again then install magisk manager? do you know what version of magisk i should run and where i can find the dl link?
What he means is you install the Magisk ZIP via TWRP in Recovery mode, reboot the phone, then you install Magisk Manager via the APK.
Go to magiskmanager dot com website which has the ZIP installer plus the APK for the Manager.
I only just recently tried to tackle this challenge. I also installed 0F1 with Odin, then rooted with Arabic. I was messing with Pokemon go and it wasn't happy I was rooted. I downloaded magisk manager, installed it that way. At reboot, angry message from Verizon that I have custom software and phone won't boot. I assume this is because I didn't install custom recovery.
If you figure a way to get this done, I will be grateful. One thing I don't quite follow. Magisk is a root method...so should we really be rooting the phone prior? Seems redundant and going against the whole point of magisk. Right?
I wanted to play around with spoofing GPS with PGO which requires making a GPS spoofer a system app (need root for that). Is that still possible using magisk?
I'll post any updates I have as well.

Really sad that it doesn't work for you.
Try this:
Install ROM from zero, (or wipe it off). Then try to install the magisk 18.2.
Hopefully it'll work for you.
Thanks
I will look at it
But is stupid that i need to install the rom from start
And where is Magisk 18.2 comming from
The last one on the official page is 18.1
So how do you get the Magisk 18.2
I have installed this today and now those fastboot commands don't work. Fastboot boot fails with the error (unknown command). Any idea about how to install TWRP in this scenario?

Where did you get the zip?
Play store has to be authorized and added, Google Pay that is, play services for the device/region. That way it will pass safetynet. If it doesn't include the safetynet info, when you try to use it, and verify, it fails. It takes awhile often for them to get it working.

You can't. Currently there's no working twrp for Android 10 open beta.
Yes, officially, no TWRP, firmware is updated/changed, plus fastboot boot is often disabled on these builds. Also, it will fail Safety Net, so no root, no twrp and no GPay....Android Q is a bust so far. There are TWRP for Guacamole, I tried those on the Chinese version, ended up hosing my phone..finally got it back working and back on stable 9.0.17 and rooted/twrp. I'm guessing we will need another month at least to get a stable/working Q for 6T, and TWRP/root.
In h2os 10...twrp 3.3.1-8 works
Personally used

Tried the fastboot method per your thread, that didn't work. Then tried the Magisk method and install, then select patched file, reboot, Magisk says it isn't installed and ctsProfile fails Safetynet.
Thanks

Same, tried both methods and also got stuck on boot loop.
Tested the thread HERE and it worked for me I have the phone rooted without TWRP.
I already had the Magisk apk installed on the phone and flashed the img as mentioned in the thread and it worked.
To whom it may concern. I followed this method and it works flawlessly.
1. Magisk Manager > Tap "Uninstall" > Tap "Restore Images" (DO NOT REBOOT)
2. Now Run the System update to download and install the full OTA zip (DO NOT REBOOT)
3. Close all background apps
4. Open Magisk > Tap "Install" > Tap "install" again > Tap "Install to Inactive/Second Slot (After OTA)"
5. Finally tap Reboot after Magisk installation is complete.
Finally just gave up on TWRP and did the normal OTA procedure above, then patched inactive in Magisk. Now rooted, just no TWRP.
So the above works, just make sure you have the right full Android Q from the official thread and follow the above.

You need to download the full firmware same as you have on your phone. Unpack the zip file, then unpack the payload.bin file with the program (payload-dumper), there will be a lot of files we only need boot.img . You install magisk applications in the application you click install magisk(root) you point to your boot.img file. Magisk generates its img file which you need to flash in fastboot. Remember to unlock OEM in developer options and then in adb and enable usb debugging.
There is working TWRP for A13. It works pretty good and I have used it. Check it out here

I want to install twrp and magisk on op 8 pro but I couldn't find any resources. I tried to install twrp in fastboot mode, this time it does not enter recovery mode. I found some information for Magisk installation, but I couldn't find anything for Android 13. Can anyone help me out with this please.

I recently rooted my IN2025.F62.
At first, you need to unlock the bootloader. Let us know if you need help for that
To be rooted:
1. What DID NOT work: FLASH the official IMG file of TWRP downloaded from their website
I had to use MSM tool to install stock OOS 11 then slowly upgrade to OOS 13 through OTA.
2. What DID work: BOOT into TWRP thanks to twrp_op8_erofs-3.7.0-b3.img (source).
Then download Magisk.apk from Github, rename it to Magisk.zip and flash it from TWRP.
I didn't try yet but you can normally install TWRP from Magisk as reported here.
