All components are already there to build a Asteroid sports watch for instance with the Huawei 2 watch:
Huawei watch 2 as an open source Linux AsteroidOS sports watch
For an open source Linux sports watch with external BLE sensors, GPS would be very helpful. Is there an AsteroidOS watch which supports GPS? What about the Huawei 2 GPS watch? Asteroid IRC chat: PeterGamma For an open source Linux sports...

But a miss a new watch with AsteroidOS as a basis for a sports watch. Kingwear K88 is new, and has an AsteroidOS port by Chandler Swift. But according to the AsteroidOS chat, the Bluetooth stack is a mess. For external Bluetooth low energy sensors, BLE is important.
I miss a high quality watch with an AsteroidOS port, for instance a port for a Fossil watch as a basis for an open source sports watch.
According to the Asteroid IRC chat, the bootloader of the new Xiaomi watch cannot be unlocked. The new Fossil watch is an alternative.

Hey, im planning on getting a Fossil gen 5 and looking for ways to hack it. Is it possible to get Asteroid OS working on it? I haven't seen the watch in the porting status, neither in working nor in not working
2 comments
Hi, in theory, it should be possible to port Asteroid to it.
The porting status page contains only watches that got requested or someone worked on. We can not really answer the question if a port is possible at this point because we do not have basic Infos about the device.
That being said, there are a few preconditions.
There needs to be a way to talk to the bootloader to flash ROMs or boot a different kernel. This is almost always done via USB on these watches. So you would need to open up the watch to find out if there are pads for USB or similar (see my post about the gen 3).
Kernel sources are a requirement as you need to recompile it with a different configuration. According to this spreadsheet and some searching I can not see the codename of the board. You would need to connect via ADB or boot into fastboot mode to get this info.
A ROM dump / official firmware image or root access are important as they simplify the port a lot.
Hope this answers your question somewhat. Let me know if you want to know something specific. You are also welcome to join the IRC channel if you need help in the process (note that answers on IRC can take a while as they are written by volunteers in their free time and possibly are in a different time zone than you).

Yeah that definitely clear some questions. I dont intend to open up the watch just yet, but I'll keep it in my for later. Thanks!

Basically, I'd like to get the ball rolling with making a low cost (Free, Open Source would be best) IR Universal Remote application for the Android Platform.
I wrote up this wiki to help establish current info:
Slatedroid Wiki - Adding IR output to Android Devices
Please see the wiki for all the details, but essentially, the hardware involved is trivial. As far as coding, the following needs to be written or ported from other projects:
A GUI to manage the buttons and selection of devices
A parsing function to read info from pre-made remote control code text files
An audio signal/waveform generator
A database to store the information
All of this stuff has been done before, it's just a matter of bringing it all together into one android-based project.
If the project really took off, future development might include:
Support of LIRC, Pronto, CCF, and/or other IR remote file protocols
Integrated controlling of WiFi and Bluetooth devices
A pre-parsed central database stored "on the cloud" for all major devices
Possibly supporting the "learning" of a new device (would need a IR sensor/decoder attached to microphone input)
Feel free to discuss, correct any errors, bounce new ideas around, etc.
With google tv most of plumbing code and the UI will be available, albeit for a small set of machines and via bluetooth. (google remote)
They used to do this actually.
I remember a long time ago, it was with remote software. It would store the IR signals as WAV files recorded via a 3.5mm headphone IR sensor.
I think you could even make one. All you need to receive and send IR signals is a audio recorder/player. Map certain software buttons to each audio file to make a "Remote Controller" type of device".

Yes, all that info is already in the wiki. It's been done a million times, which makes me wonder why there is no one around with an android version yet.

Google TV will be WiFi controlled though, not IR, right? If the source code for the gui was available, that would be a good start.
Many of you will not know me, or remember me from the HTC HD2 area, or HTC Typhoon days ( by the way Thanks for all the great roms guys !!!!), however I never left Windows Phone, just moved up to a Nokia Lumia 1020.
Any way I have wanted a Smart Watch more then likely longer then most, not important, but being I have always been a Windows Phone user I have been on the outside looking in, like most of you. The Brave Pebble users aside, as they only have 3rd party Support, with 3rd Party coders not given access to allow sms/email/notifications. Microsoft only grants access to OEM, and Pebble is not interested in building for Windows Phone.
Any way things need to change and they need to move forward, but Microsoft for some reason does not see the need to expand beyond The Band. A good bit of kit, but designed for the fitness fans, not for the Smart Watch crowd, as The Band can not do the most basic of Smart Watch........a Watch Face.
Now news has leaked out that during the change of ownership of Nokia's Mobile division, a Smart Watch was to release with the Nokia Lumia 930, Moonraker was it's code name, but Microsoft stopped it's release. I see this is a slap in the face to Windows Phone users/Supporters/Fans, and Should not Stand !!!!
I give you Moonraker.....

Also if you can think of any other ways to draw attention to this, Please post it up and add support. If we don't force the issue Microsoft will not see any need.
Ok thanks for reading!!! Hope you all join in and help raise a fuss
So I recently received bought another Chinese smartwatch that’s based on the Mediatek MTK6261 system-on-a-chip, which isn’t a very common chip in smartwatches as far as I know. Other than that, the watch supports a variety of different wireless standards such as GSM, Bluetooth 3.0 & 4.0 but that’s about it. These are the full specifications for the watch, and what other features it brings to the table:

The build quality of this watch feels pretty solid, and is better than most other <$50 smartwatches I’ve tried; it’s made out of aluminum and plastic and feels very solid. The band is made out of a leather looking material, but I’m not sure if it’s real leather or not.
So feature wise, this watch brings in some of the common features on Chinese smartwatches like a basic messaging app, remote dialer support and support for notifications. However, it does lack some features some other smartwatches have but it does have some features others don’t such as a heartrate monitor.
The watch comes with a variety of different watchfaces that looks better than on most other china watches, and I especially liked the black analog watchface with white text. The only thing I wish was that there was some better digital ones, as there’s only 1 digital watchface on it.
The firmware of the watch is based off an old phone firmware as far as I know, as there’s some relics that they’ve not removed and sometimes they make the user interface feel a bit clunky. For an example, if you want to set an alarm you have to go through many different menus to do something that simple. Another example is that the keyboard for inputs in the text messaging app is really small, and feels like a keyboard that were initially intended for a bigger screen or a product with a stylus.
So with what said, I’m pretty satisfied with this watch but the firmware is a bit clunky in certain areas of the watch; anyone that own this watch that have found any custom firmware for it or is there a more recent firmware available? I suspect that this is an OEM version of the Flyshark Smartwatch, if I find a way to flash it I’ll try that firmware out.

This watch and all Finow watches are officially supported here = http://roundandroidwatches.proboards.com/
Whilst we all work here on XDA as well - come over and register to find out about this and all round stand alone Android smart watches.
You can change watch faces easily for this watch and even make your own with an app one of our members has created. All this information is available in our forum http://roundandroidwatches.proboards.com/ and G+ Community https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/109827242607524552712
These faces do display step, battery and other information - have a look for yourself.
Just be sure about this one important thing - it is a standalone device - for use with a nano 3G sim card, like a regular phone.
It will not work like Android Wear - it can display some notifications from your phone via Bluetooth but no phone calls or text messaging is/are possible.
It is a real phone in a watch.
By the way - a note to the original poster - you cannot post adverting links on XDA !! You've been warned !!
---------- Post added at 06:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:51 PM ----------
URGENT WARNING !! - DO NOT use the add watch face option at the end of the installed watch face chain which is an + symbol.
The server used to host the faces available through this option is hosted in China and has terrible trouble delivering the face to the watch.
This quite often ends up with a half installed watch face which then corrupts the launcher database.
It ends with the watch failing to boot correctly to the launcher and the only solution is to flash the watch with original firmware (a scary process for some ! )
can i change the straps?
I recently ordered a "MTK2502D" based Smartwatch with Heart rate reader and Pedometer.
as i havent read much about 2502D series, i a mnot sure if it is just a rebranded/names 6261 or it is a real 2502 one.
will post ROM later here. DO you guys think it will be possible to use VXP files on that watch? - or has anyone allready tried such a watch?
Item is still on the way, so i could not verify Memory / all the other stuff on it.
Website mentioned 32/32 MB, but on the other hand clearly states it as MTK2502D. not sure if this another marketing trick.
Display should be 240x240, mentioned as IPS, Watch has no SD card support though, but it also states it has BT 4.0 (MTK6261D has only BT3.x )

Rom DUMP MTK2502D Readback Extractor help needed
Hey Golem_ , great work on the tools.
I recently ordered a feature watch (MTK2502D) which supports blood pressure, pedometer and BT connectivity to Smartphone.
It is advertised as MTK 2502D, and seems to feature 4mb/32MB only.
MTK Smartdevice recognizes the watch from android, and i was able to add a SINGLE watchface via "My applications" .
I did a rom dump as first Action, and it was only possible to do that with the 4MB setting.
Anyway, i am not able to create a flashable rom with readback extractor MTK 2.4 .
I hope u have the possibility to split the Dump into something i could flash in case of (brick) emergency.
i want to try if i can add vxp files to the phone, but it does not even have the possibility to let it register as flashdrive to PC.
So here is the rom dump (i guess the dump itself is okay, but it might need some fix for having a flashable file afterwards):
so, its a true 2502, only with less ram (4/32mb) i managed to change watchface with a vxp file allready, odd thing is, only the digital ones work, the ones with a second , minute hour hand only show the background with a non moving set (or not even showing) of hands.

I've same kind of chipset in my cheap smartwatch, a Kingwear GV68. (their are many different smartwatches with this mediatek MTK2502D chipset).
I use the smartphone app: Mediatek Smartdevice to add apps on smartwatch. (bug in yahoo weather is, it doesn't find city)
The advised app: Fundowear support installation of apps. but it doesn't have it preloaded in the internal storage "appmanager" directory., and it's constantly using gps if you approve it. Good thing of fundowear is: it shows the messages (words) in sms, whatsapp and so on.
Weird is, that you can install only one of those apps on your smartphone, because if you install a second one on your smartphone you get a error that it conflicts with a already installed app.
