I did see this message when you replied, It was 2am hence the lack of immediate reply.
I did check the Event logs.... then got into a 3 hour fight with .net frameworks and Visual C++ redistributables
The ****ing PC won. Uninstalled and reinstalled .net and the vc++ stuff and tried some other random fixes I saw on various forums but nothing worked so I ended up just flattening my hard drive and starting from scratch.
I think I can trace it back to when I originally installed Windows last year and was using Powershell to disable various "features" and telemetry stuff. I've had ongoing issues with UWP apps and other random software since then and I think it's all related. None of it was a big deal though so I just ignored it.
Luckily it only took about 70 mins to install and configure the OS and all my important applications.
Really wanted to get Dex running and I am happy that it now works, loads better than the Your Phone application imo.
Apologies to anyone who finds this thread in the future hoping that I found an actual fix

Hello All.
I've had my UK, T-Mobile G1 for quite a while now. I have rooted it and it is running the latest CyanogenMod recovery image and ROM. I also have Apps2SD set up on my 8GB SD card, on a 512MB ext partition. This was all working fine until the problems below occurred...
I'm having some problems with several apps and ADB.
My PC runs Windows 7, 64 bit, and I can't seem to find a driver for the G1's ADB. I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but I just can't find one. I have used one before on Vista, where I had to set some boot options, but I'm not too sure / happy about doing that on my nicely functioning Windows 7. And as my friend once said; "You mess around with windows, then windows will mess around with you"...
But, anyway, I can't seem to get ADB working, if someone could either send me a link to the drivers or guide me through it, I'd be grateful...
Also, it may be due to me running CyanogenMod, but if I try to update the Facebook app, it downloads the app, and then when it tries to install, gives me the error "Installation Unsuccessful - Incompatible Update".
And with the Google Maps app, it says "Installation unsuccessful - Package file was not signed correctly". This may be due to me trying to get the hacked version of the app to get the Google Maps Navigation working in the UK, but I couldn't get that to work, so I uninstalled it and Nav Launcher, and now when I try to update from the Market it gives me that error.
I've seen a guide online with ADB commands, but as I have no access to ADB, I'm a tad screwed. I've tried runnign the commands in the Terminal Emulator in the phone, which does approximately nothing whatsoever.
So, can anyone give me any guidance on any of my Android problems?
Thanks in advance - Ethan
To the best of my knowledge no one has successfully used ADB with Windows 7/64bit

Ah. Looks like I'll be reinstalling Ubuntu then for the ADB. Thank you for such a fast response.

In that case, do you remember where you obtained the driver from? I would love a link, or a zip file or something...
I'm on Vista x64 SP2 and I can use ADB just fine. You just need to download the SDK and then get the USB driver through there. It used to come included, but now you need to use the ADV and SDK manager and download the drivers as an SDK Component through there.
After that, make sure your phone is set to USB Debugging mode and plug it in then point windows to the new drivers. If it doesn't want to install the new drivers, you might need to remove the old ones first. I had to use USB Deview (DL link at bottom of page) and removed all installed HTC drivers. After that I plugged my G1 back in, pointed it at the newly downloaded drivers and all was well.
I'm running adb/fastboot/android sdk on win7 64b ultimate. The drivers are included in the sdk download. Once you download the sdk, make sure you have java installed. (I had to install JRE and JDK to get it to work properly, not sure if this was needed) Anyhow, when you have the sdk downloaded, run the sdk setup program. Go to settings and check the box for force update (unsure of the exact terminology used there) then go to available updates and your drivers are the last option on the list.

I had the same problem under Windows 7 64bit. Solved it by installing Windows Mobile Device Center, don't ask me why :-(
Thank you for replies. I have tried to reinstall MDC but that doesn't seemed to help solve the problem...
Still cannot use Kies.. sigh..
Solved
Kies require Windows Mobile Device Center on newer Windows, activesync on older Windows.

I have just purchased Galaxy S.
Installed Kies on windows 7 64 bit, kies doesn't start/work at all. It remain at splash screen. When open task manager I found the splash process and form1.
It is a big delusion
Samsung make software only for 32bit?? How to sync 232 contacts from iphone without outlook??
Samsung, sigh ..
Regards
Thanks for the hints everyone.
My 'mainstage' problem seemed to have been solve with reinstallation of the latest Kies from samsung which I have just downloaded. That being said, kies open and run fine, but I am back to the same old problem unable to connecting my phone to kies. This software is really a POS.
My system is Window 7 64Bit home professional.
Also just to note, I notice that kies requires .net framework for window xp and vista. To be safe.. and it might be totally unrelated... I enabled the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1 on window 7 when I reinstalled the new version of kies.
Yes, and do not forget Windows Mobile Device Center on newer Windows, activesync on older Windows.
Regards
Thanks
Last note really.
Today the in a last ditch efforts to connect Kies due to upgrade from JF4 to JG4 over kies, I have finally decided to format my internal SDcard.
Kies was able to connect to my phone after several reboot attempt of my computer and telephone. Upgrading to JG4 seemed to have no problem connecting to Kies so far. However, I have my doubt that after installing several programs the problem will probably pop back up again.
Cheers Everyone

Kies Mainstage Still Not Working
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and using different versions and Kies Mainstage still does not allow Kies to start up.
I've installed Mobile Device Manager and still nothing.
Seems as though Samsung exec's opted for a slick, pretty GUI without consideration to actual functionality!
At this rate, I will never be able to upgrade to froyo 2.2 unless someone writes an install package that works.
frustrated.
Galaxy S, 2.1 update 1 Eclaire. 2 Gb Micro SD card.
Laptop: Asus 3 Ghz blah, blah, blah

I had similar problems running Kies on Win 7 x64. What I did was do a fresh install of the updated Kies version 103_100_2 (from Samsung UK site), ie. uninstall old Kies and remove any lingering directories first. Then Uninstall the Samsung USB drivers installed with Kies. Then install the x64 bit drivers for Samsung mobile devices. Worked a treat.
You can get the x64 bit drivers from Softpedia website
cheers
Having the same problem. It's infuriating.
Kies was working fine until about a month ago and now I cannot open it. Have followed the advice given in this thread but no luck in getting it to start.
Running Windows Vista 32 Bit
mainstage not working
I have vista 32bit
I reinstalled the latest version of kies it still didn't work so I then installed .NET framework 4 and that seems to have solved the problem.
hope this helps for all you vista 32 bit operators that have the mainstage problem.
took me two hours to work out but seemed to correct the problem by downloading the 4.0 version of .netframework.
kies seems to be working now
let me no if this helps

Fix for XP:
I had exactly the same problem on my XP Netbook and solved as follows:
Uninstall Kies
Uninstall Samsung Modem for Mobile Phones
Uninstall Microsoft Silverlight
Uninstall Microsoft Silverlight SDK
Reboot
Install Kies
Hope this helps.
A.
PS Reasoning behind this is if you look at the error log file that the crash produces and is about to send to Microsoft then you see that the exception occurred in XamlParse... Xaml is the xml language used by Silverlight and WPF.
PPS Samsung get your act together and write software that works properly.
PPPS Samsung give us a way to update your phones without having to use the piece of cr*p you call Kies.
I'm new at this, but I've successfully downloaded Kies(the Samsung PC interface for Galaxy) and installed it. However, it fails to launch. I've downloaded twice and reinstalled, but still doesn't work.
Error message "The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application"
What's up with that? Anybody can help please?
Think is relies on .net framework is yours installed and upto date?

It needs .net 3.5 installed. I never got it to work on my Windows XP at work, but it works on my windows 7 at home. It's a pain, I seems to have to install the 64bit drivers everytime I need to use.
Oh..how do I get an update of .net framework on my XP? It doesn't prompt for that?
*Facepalm*
Ever heard of windowsupdate.com?
Firmware update
Thanks all...I've managed to install Kies. Now it says there's a firmware my Galaxy needs updating, but as I go down the procedure, it says it cannot update as it needs 1000Mb space...my phone still has 1.6G available..what's happening? In any case, this Kies sucks BIG TIME!!
I flashed, factory bootloader, radio, and 4.3.zip, but Windows 8 will not allow me to install the Google usb_driver update that I installed from the SDK manager. I choose to select the drive myself for "unknown device" and navigate to C:\Development\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130514\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver, but I get a message saying "Windows could not find driver software for your device." I've restarted my computer, uninstalled the driver and reinstalled. I'm not sure if it matters, but I was running 4.2.2 rooted and deodexed with CWM recovery before. I also skipped the w- switch when I installed the .zip, so as not to lose any data. I wouldn't mind backing up my phone and reflashing with the w- switch, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that, since my computer won't even recognize my phone as a storage device anymore. I am using the cable that came with the phone too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Although I should have tried that before I posted, that didn't work either. For what it's worth, after I ran the flash, the generic android app icon was where the phone app should have been; I had to move the phone app icon from the apps menu. Also, I had to force close In Tune radio and the phone app isn't autocompleting.
From today onwards i decided to start with Android App Development,
So i started following some Android App Dev courses,
but while configuring "ADT" i encountered few problems, listed below:
The "Android SDK Manager" doesn't opens up, it only pop ups a loading box and then it never appears,
I tried using editing the android.bat file, doesn't works for me!
Also, The Android Virtual device is not working, when i try to make a virtual device,
Even after entering all necessary parameters, the "OK" button is still greyed/disabled.
Using:
Windows 8.1, JAVA RE 7, Update 71 (both 32 and 64bits)
Please help

Your virtual devices are not working maybe, because u dont downloaded sdk version from virtual manager ? Try to update and download all stuff that u dont have, and then try .
