Camera improvement on Android 11? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Why camera on op8pro is so bad at android 11?

I have hated my 8Pro since I got it, and wish that I never sold my 7 Pro to a family member. The 7 Pro was better in almost every way! This scam of a phone is complete crap, with it's 12 MGP rear camera that was listed as 48, and the wide 48 looking like just over 16. I have nothing good, nothing at all, to say about this POS phone. I have had it since June of 2020. The cameras are just crap, this horrible cutout in the from for it's 5mp (at best quality) camera burns me up. The balance on this phone is so bad that I just want to throw it. Nothing, I mean nothing is good about it! The 7 Pro was millions of times better, even with the "slower" 855. I am not buying another POS from Oppo.

Compared with G6, S7E, OP5, and came back to Le Pro 3.

Ok, I know it's gonna sound crazy but I think the Le Pro 3 is just slightly better than these phones right now and here's why.
I recently had the G6 and OP5 to play with for a few days. I'm disappointed in both of them. The OP5 was close to a keeper but a few issues, it was more expensive than all these phones amazing how cheap the G6 is right now.
The G6's main problem is the camera and battery life. I couldn't get a whole day of usage with one full charge. The camera is the most inconsistent of all LG phones I've had, some shots looked great but some were really noisy.
The OP5 was nearly the perfect phone until I started shooting videos and had some AF problems, about 3 out of 10 shots came out blurry. It terms of speed it was pretty darn fast.
I returned it because of the jello screen effect and I just don't think it's worth the money when the Le Pro 3 is so much cheaper and is about 80% of the OP5. Now don't get me wrong it's still a good phone but not worth $480 which is almost double what the Le Pro 3 costs me. And OP devices has always been buggy and needed subsequent patches and patches. OP has always released beta products.
Now the main problem I have with the Le Pro 3 is the screen just looked too washed out and the camera is mediocre but it's the only phone that gets me through 1.5 days on a full charge. It's close to the OP5 in terms of usage speed and it's almost 1/2 the price.
Ok, compare to the S7E it seems the S7E has everything covered, great camera the best in the business imo. It's got micro-SD and water resistance but the battery life is the worst and device is sluggish.
I'm thinking S8 could probably beat all of these phones but I really need good battery life and I don't think the S8 could hold a candle against the Le Pro 3 in this area.
That's where I honestly stand, I don't think any of these phones are perfect but for the price and value the Le Pro 3 is hard to beat.
In my opinion, Le Pro3 is just a monster! Disapointing only on camera and IPS, but after all, it's still one of the best in value phones.
Now only cost $265 for the 64Gb rom/4Gb ram variant, many roms to choose from and battery is one of the best, pretty compact size. Even new phones that coming out are not going to be better maybe 3-5% performance difference that's all. But people get exciting with new phones so they buy them, after few weeks it get old like other phones. Everyone use the phone differently I guess, some people might not even know LeEco after all.
I actually think the screen is pretty good. I mean of course it will look washed out against an amoled but it is great on its own. And so so so much better with the screen protector removed!

Nah... Camera? Just use Google Camera app to unleash Le Pro 3's potential. I compared mine with iPhone 7 and the latter look terrible in comparison LoL.
Screen is just as good if not better than iPhone 7 too which has terrible screen and resolution compared to the likes of Samsung and Pixel.

OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T

Who here prefer buying a OP 5 now and save a few bucks instead of a 5T? And why?
Am I the only one who prefers the 16:9 screen ratio of the OP5?
I bought OP5 on the same day it launched and now am regretting it. Had they released 5T next year or atleast at a higher price tag than OP5 would be fair. Now we OP5 users are desparate to upgrade to OP5T. Atleast the company should've come up with buy back scheme for OP5 users to upgrade to 5T hassle free.
Atleast my OP5 is 5 months old. But what for those who bought it a couple of days or weeks before OP5T release. This is very disappointing by the Team. They ripped off 5 with 5T just like they ripped off 3 with 3T.
Go for oneplus 5T, it's much better deal
Honestly, with not much having changed in regards of CPU, RAM and other performance factors, I'm not feeling the upgrade hype at all, especially since the fingerprint sensor of OP5t is on the back and the camera has not been considerably improved.
So I'm actually preferring my OP5, and think 5.5" is already almost too big for my hands. I hope by the time an actually upgraded Oneplus comes around they stick to 5" or 5.5" rather than a 6" formfactor.
It'd be nice to have a real camera upgrade that actually takes clearer photos like they advertise. The OP5 zoom is more useful than downsampled images.
As far as I'm aware you can't buy the 5 no more. It's discontinued on their site.
For me the 5 is a beast, if I didn't have it then I'd buy the 5T, I believe you'll get slightly less stamina on the 5T Vs the 5 due to the battery not being too dissimilar and the screen being larger and a higher resolution, can't see the paltry increase making up the difference there.
But then again that's just my opinion based on specs and past experience with higher resolution screens.
Maybe I'm going blind lol I can't really tell the difference :silly:
The 5T isn't a good enough upgrade for me to warrant a purchase. I'll just wait for the OnePlus 6.

Same here!
The op5/op5t camera isn't even an upgrade regarding the camera if you come from op3. In fact i think pics are worse
Im taking about rear camera, selfie camera is a bit better.
I looked for a mint condition used OP5 and bought it a week ago for 70% of OP5T price so I don't regret anything
No reason to switch from 5 to 5T
For me there is absolutely no reason to switch from 5 to 5T.
They are apart from the camera (possibly a downgrade) and a slightly larger screen the same phone. (so same same but different)
I'm annoyed that OP is artificially limiting the 5 regarding face unlock. (So it seems that it is currently just a sales point)

The Huawei P30 pro has a great camera and a solid battery but a 1080p display and the software experience isn't that great imo.
The Note 9 is an amazing all around phone that I would consider if you're looking for a bargain but the Note 10 will be available in less than a month.
The S10 plus has everything, the camera, the display the software experience the battery. You just can't go wrong with this phone.

Samsung has been using the same camera sensor since the Galaxy 7 which is 4 generations of Galaxy phones with no upgrade. Currently Huawei and Xiaomi phones both take much better pics than Samsung. If camera is your top concern Samsung should not be anywhere near the top of your list. The camera on my Xiaomi MI 9 which costs all of $350 on sale smokes the S10+ camera.

I agree. The S10+ has a lot of great things about it but the OP specifically listed the camera as being one of his top priorities. Samsung has fallen behind its competitors in that area. If the OP had a Mate 20 he might be disappointed with the Galaxy camera.
The Galaxy S10+ also charges much less quickly than Huawei and Xiaomi phones (the speed difference is huge with wireless charging) which is the other obvious area where Samsung has fallen behind their competitors.
I think Samsung's huge market share made them complacent which is why they haven't kept pace with innovation--the Galaxy phones have only been offering incremental upgrades from year to year for a while now.
Supposedly the S11 Galaxy line is finally going to change that but we have a while to wait on those.
S10+ exynos for the win

I had Mi9 right before S10 (now S10+). Mi9 low light and indoor light photos are soo bad, even sometimes unusable, no matter with or without tripod. No OIS... Day photos are very good, same like S10+
...from phones mentioned in OP I would go for S10+.
edit: @ jhs38 like usual, stock camera doesn't have any options for improving picture quality in Auto mode. Just picture format, light conditions and HDR on/off

I can't agree at all. People who say that usually have the camera app set up wrong. For me both the MI 9 and Mix 2S took excellent low light pictures. I also owned the Huawei Mate 20P and Pixel XL, which are both considered excellent camera phones. All 4 of those phones took better pictures than my Galaxy S10+ regardless of light or any other conditions.

Wow man, I don't know what did you smoke because there's no way the mate20pro has better camera than the s10+ (I ditched my mate 20 pro)
The wide lens is wider on the s10, the selfies are MILES better, because of the autofocus (only Samsung phones have it)
The video on ANY Huawei (or Chinese phone for that matter) phone is horrible.
And yes the STOCK camera has better night mode on Huawei/Xiaomi but you just install the gcam and boom, problem solved (oh did I forgot to mention that you can't install **** on Kirin processors?)
And that's just on the camera department.
The screen is just hideous on any phone that isn't a galaxy or an iPhone(no I don't have an iPhone but I've seen them and they're good)
The dual speaker is waaay better also on galaxy, specially s10
The software on Chinese phones is horrible.
And the list could go on and on...

I don't think it's even possible to find a professional tech review that claims the S10+ camera is better than the Mate 20 Pro camera--although I never use smartphone cameras to record video so I can't comment on that.
Most people use their smartphone cameras for point and shoot pictures and for low light or bright light pics, detail and color the M20P camera is far superior to the S10+ camera.
When you are talking about specific photographic effects that's a different area because a lot of that is achieved through the coding of the camera app and some phone brands choose to focus on different options than other brands.
I'm not serious enough about smartphone photography to play with all of the various effects and options available in the cameras on any smartphone. If you are you certainly might find things you prefer in the Samsung camera app which was considered one of the best in the business until a couple years ago.
As far as I know everybody who does professional tests and reviews gives the cameras in the recent Huawei flagships much higher marks than the S10+ camera.
From personal experience when I was in a car wreck in April I took lots of pics with my M20P (before going to the hospital emergency room for 9 hours because of a serious concussion).
When I later printed out individual pics of the accident damage at enlarged 8.5"x11" size the level of detail in the enlargements was astounding--in pics taken from 6 feet away something as small as the head of a screw was razor sharp.
In my own tests with the S10+ camera enlarged pictures don't have anything close to comparable clarity and detail.
The only reason I eventually opted to get rid of my M20P after about 6 months was that it didn't support Volte on T-Mobile in the United States (unlike the P20 Pro, Mate 10 Pro, Mix 2S & MI 9). It turns out that on T-Mobile if a phone supports band 12 without also supporting Volte calls frequently go straight to voicemail without the phone ringing first.
I got a MI 9 which I like but the battery in that phone is too small for the hardware plus MIUI is a lot more buggy than it was on the Mix 2S.
When I found a good deal on an unlocked S10+ I decided to try Samsung again for the first time since the Galaxy 3.
The S10+ is definitely very good in many ways but if Samsung were forced to compete head to head with Huawei and Xiaomi in the United States it would be impossible to justify the $1000 list price it cost at launch.
When compared with Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi devices the S10+ should be a $600 phone--possibly $700 at launch.
But since Samsung has nobody to compete against in the United States other than One Plus and Google Pixel $1000 doesn't seem nearly as inflated as it should.

It was announced today that the Note 10 might feature an AI assisted camera which supports what I was saying earlier about the Samsung camera lagging behind its competitors--both Huawei and Xiaomi added that functionality to the cameras in their flagship phones 2 years ago.
But since Samsung doesn't have to compete against Huawei or Xiaomi in the United States a lot of people here will think Samsung is being innovative.

Upgrade from OnePlus 5T?

I'm considering upgrading to this phone from the OnePlus 5T since it checks off all my boxes. Only thing I'm worried about is the actual performance of the chip. I don't do much with the phone and the most intense thing I do is probably play Real Racing 3. Will this be an issue?
While on this topic, is it actually an upgrade from my 5T? The camera performance is surely better but thanks to the Google Camera, photos are pretty good with the 5T too.
Actually, the Snapdragon 730 performs better in benchmarks than the 835. So it should be at least equal there.
But this phone is heavy compared to 5T, with case it gets bulkier. Gaming performance is good, camera is bad. If you're coming from oneplus series, better buy oneplus again IMO. They are compact devices with better OS and cameras.
Camera is bad... or maybe the guy behind the camera xD It's one of the best in the phone market but yes it's bad compare to a Canon SLR camera !

no, for a normal phone camera is terrible, for now even gcam can`t save it. you dont need to compare to a SLR to see the bad quality.
and its one of the best MID RANGER phone, not even close to any of the best phones, chill

You seem to have very high standards when it comes to the camera. Imho the phone takes great pictures in good lighting conditions. For low light gcam is the way to go. Yes, it's not as good as the flagships out there but we are talking budget here.
The 9T is an upgrade from the OnePlus 7 - I just came from the 7 to the 9T.
OK, so the 9T isn't quite as fast, but there's barely anything in it - I don't game, but all other apps launch and run great on the 730. The screen is better on the 9T, the cameras are pretty much the same, battery is better. Loss of stereo speakers isn't a massive problem for me as the 9T's speaker is good, and I still use a wired headphone so no dongle is a bonus.
You won't regret buying compared to the 1+5T.

Wait what if they have blurry camera effect like MKBHD's unit lol
i've changed from oneplus 6 to mi9t, i had an amazon warranty refund for oneplus 6, so best of all is that i spent 350€ for 128gb mi9t and amazon refunded 540€ for oneplus 6.
phone itself was mostly an update even if had not spent less than refund, i haven't tried it for long time so something could be untested (like recording audio)
screen: mi 9t>op6
camera: little better for op6 in low light and 4k 60fps videos (but didn't use the, so much, too much space) mostly they seem to be on par (i have to test much more)
battery: mi 9t>op6
fingerprint: mi 9t mostly better, you don't have to "take" the phone or digit pin if it's on a table, just a little slower, but difference is less than half a second
speaker: seems quite louder, quality seems very similar
phone: i expected the thin speaker to be much more position-dependant, but i don't notice so much difference.
performance: i can't notice any difference, and i'm quite sure people with mi 9t pro won't ever notice any difference, cause 730 is already overpowered for screen resolution
honestly i won't listen those talking about the camera, you can't compare it to huawei high ends or samsung, but against op6 camera it's almost even.

OnePlus 9 Camera app

So since the OnePlus 9 pro came out I couldn't but notice that the main/selfie camera is the same as our "beloved" 8 pro but if I understood correctly that hasselblad tweaked the 9 pro's camera app. Or was it just the glass?
Anywho is there any difference between the OnePlus 9 pro's camera app and our 8 pro?
I personally do not know. However, I do not believe that they will ever make anything good again. Who the heck needs or wants a frant facing camera, anyway? I mean are we 13-16 year old girls trying to get as many STD's as we can before we hit the wall?
Well personally I love a good front facing camera especially with a wide angle one with a good aperture but that will never happen....
After seeing what op9p has to offer I think OnePlus has lost its touch and my experience with the op8p isn't helping either..
Is anyone working on a port of the APK?
I don't think the hardware is anything to do with the company they collaborated with, so if it's software then it could be portable?
Maybe
