Keeping the temperature down during flashing helps.
The less the better but at a minimum of 10k write cycles until failure it's probably just not an issue.

[i9001]Discussions about development of CM7 and CM9

Hi to all!
I've created this topic that we can discuss about the CM7 and CM9 ROMs that are in development, and not flood the development topic with Q&As. Feel free to post!
How to avoid bricking the SGS+
I've heard that this phone is somewhat easy to brick. This made me think twice before doing some 'serious stuff' with the phone, like trying to make a CM7 or ICS ROM. Can somebody tell me how to avoid bricking this phone? And is it risky to flash source-built ROMs? It would be good if someone tell me the partitions of the phone (in which is stored what: e.g. in which partition is the kernel, the bootloader, etc.).
Thanks in advance!
You can get the most important partitions from the wiki: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/GT-I9001#Partitions
I once dumped all partitions and can verify that the most important stuff is below the kernel partition, so don't mess with them. mmcblk0p14 is a parameter partition (thx skywalker01) for the bootloader, that is what causes some devices (including mine) not to work 100% correct with CWM. You can only get out of recovery boot loop by dd'ing zeros to that partition.

looking back at this post u gave very high expectations . Anyways, building a rom from source isn't hard at all, the tough part is to make the hardware work, so most probably u'll end up with a non working touchscreen for a start, not to mention u need a kernel that'll make it boot at all. As for the partitions, skywalker is the man to ask, i can tell u though that the kernel (boot.img) is in /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 .

Thanks. I was looking for the bootloader partition, because if you mess it up, your phone wouldn't boot at all. If you mess up the kernel partition, your phone won't be able to boot into the OS, but it will be able to boot in CWM and Download mode. I'm asking this here because I heard that this phone has weird partitions, so I want to be sure I'm not going to brick my phone doing these stuff.
Hello all
Today i've made small performance comparation of CM7 KANG and Teamhacksung's ICS b14.
Please note that this KANG is used by me for everyday use with over 60 apps installed, without any scripts etc. (only Chainfire 3D @ nVidia) and ICS is freshly installed. All tests made on airplane mode.
Standard 1000MHz, ondemand, no UV/OV.
I plan to made comparation with latest Samsung ROM.

as wintel already said and as it's mentioned in the wiki (WARNING: Partitions below 8 contain absolutely vital stuff like the primary boot loader responsible for low-level hardware initialization. Messing with them is what leads to fully bricked phones because you will not be able to get into download mode anymore! ) . but for any detailed info, contact skywalker

Are you talking about SGS i9000 or SGS+ i9001?
I'm sorry, I've missed the "1" at end of model.
well is there any hopes that the CM7 or CM9 will be issued soon for the i9001?
one more thing, should I buy the i9001 or the i9000 is better??

S+ has a stronger CPU , GPU comes about the same when u update gpu drives, other stuff are more or less similar. so S+ is a lil stronger, but if u care for community support (ICS etc..) u will go for I9000.

although the lack of community support is a very big minus, but i'd still get the S+ , coz it's better. the only thing i miss is to try an ICS build, but i'm sure it will be here sooner or later.

OverClocking and Custom ROm

Hi All,
I've just buy an Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P5110. And I head that we can improve the CPU by overclocking it to 1,4 Ghz .
Can you tell me what the risk of this operation? Cause the CPU will heat too much and maybe died more quickly? What do you think?
My second question is too know how can I do that? Cause I've seen that I need to root my tablet? first and after that? It's possible with my model?
When I use my tablet I found it a little too slow . Can I improve this with a custom rom and a overclocking?
Many thanks for all your Answers.
Custom ROM's and Kernels will increase your performance but of course they will also void your warranty.
You can root and install a custom kernel which will allow you to overclock your device.
The main risk is the CPU overheating and causing your device to become unstable, if that happens you just need to lower your OC as your device can not handle it. You will be lowering your CPU's lifetime but it should still last a year or two (Most likely more) it just won't last as long as it could have.
Thanks for this, but I've look how to install a Custom rom but I don't find any good rom for the version 2 of the Galaxy Tab 2 . There is one availaible?
Thanks!
There's a couple cm9, aokp, and the debloated roms of course.

ive read of people using some of the roms on the 5110 with no problems, read through and see what you can find. 5113 and 5110 are regional and the 5110 doesnt have the IR so id imagine they would work but just check through there.
Hello Again Just one last question.
When you say that if I overclock the device , I lost my warranty , there is no way of go back to the original Rom before send it to warranty if any problems occur?
Thanks in advances for your answers

Which Rom is good for s4 I9505 and without problems

Plz guys help to find good Rom for my S4 without more problems
you should say more about what you're looking for in a rom. do you want Samsung features and touchwiz or a pure Android AOSP or something more modified like cyanogenmod ?
only a Samsung based rom will give you full features in the camera or MHL support. AOSP and CM will be usually faster and give more free internal space. no rom is going to be perfect though as that is also a measure of personal preference and custom roms often have tiny bugs in them.
usually talk of which rom is the best is discouraged here, we are urged to try some for ourselves and make our own choice...

Lol. Seriously?
What harm does root access and debloated roms do?
It is like blaming the gun and not the person who pulled the trigger when someone is killed. :/
And FYI due to the heavy amounts of bloatware and other unwanted stuff, the performance is slow in stock roms and also not all of them are stable.

I need advice on S3 neo 1901i ROMS

Hi everyone i currently have a samsung s3 neo GT 1901I almost for a year and a half and it's been stuck on 4.4.2 i love this phone, it has never given me any freezing or rebooting issues but i was thinking now to try go to custom firmware's so guys with a similar phone to mine, please advice me which is the current most stablest rom for my device which i can flash in and if it is stable could you tell me some on the known bugs on it ? i really don't wanna flash a rom and be in full regret as i find this phone of mine really stable on my current stock rom
Thanks in advance for taking your time reading this
Flash cm 12.1
for me it's better to stay on the stock
a friend of mine suggested that I try the CM 12.1 , I really like it but it caused me a lot of troubles espaicially with the battery
then I went back to stock, however it's not the same solid and efficient phone I used to have.
but anyway, that's my personnel experience , if you're used with things like flashing and trying different ROMs go ahead
I think CM 12.1 is the best , there is a thread here ( I think) where the isuues I mentionned are probably fixed
good luck
If you like AOSP ROMs I suggest you to use CM12.1 by @Rox with the kernel made by @n1kolaa.
But if you're passionated for TouchWiz like I am I recommend you to use Project Lucky by @Ciro. It has a bit of random reboot problems, but it's the most stable LL TouchWiz ROM for our beloved S3 Neo.

Hi, quick question. I wanted to flash the Project Lucky S7 Style ROM by Ciro but the kernel version on my phone is 3.4.0 and the kernel verion of the rom is 3.0.x. Is it safe to flash?? Please let me know. Thanks
Battery is better on stock, and of course that stock is better for our phone but if you want to experience something new you should wait a few day 'cause CyanogenMod 12.1 is going to be official.

why would it be dangerous - no different to flashing any other rom zip
Looking at the posts on the lineageos site the rom doesn't fully boot and freezes on setup screen
No point in flashing roms until they are posted on xda by the dev - test builds are just as they say - for testing and are not for daily use as they will be full of bugs and should only be used by people who know what they are doing and are part of the team working to fix the rom
