OverClocking and Custom ROm - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Hi All,
I've just buy an Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P5110. And I head that we can improve the CPU by overclocking it to 1,4 Ghz .
Can you tell me what the risk of this operation? Cause the CPU will heat too much and maybe died more quickly? What do you think?
My second question is too know how can I do that? Cause I've seen that I need to root my tablet? first and after that? It's possible with my model?
When I use my tablet I found it a little too slow . Can I improve this with a custom rom and a overclocking?
Many thanks for all your Answers.

Custom ROM's and Kernels will increase your performance but of course they will also void your warranty.
You can root and install a custom kernel which will allow you to overclock your device.
The main risk is the CPU overheating and causing your device to become unstable, if that happens you just need to lower your OC as your device can not handle it. You will be lowering your CPU's lifetime but it should still last a year or two (Most likely more) it just won't last as long as it could have.

Thanks for this, but I've look how to install a Custom rom but I don't find any good rom for the version 2 of the Galaxy Tab 2 . There is one availaible?
Thanks!

There's a couple cm9, aokp, and the debloated roms of course.

ive read of people using some of the roms on the 5110 with no problems, read through and see what you can find. 5113 and 5110 are regional and the 5110 doesnt have the IR so id imagine they would work but just check through there.

Hello Again Just one last question.
When you say that if I overclock the device , I lost my warranty , there is no way of go back to the original Rom before send it to warranty if any problems occur?
Thanks in advances for your answers

Need a little bit of Rom/Root/Kernel help

Hey everyone,
I'm an X G2x user, and over there in "G2x" land I rooted my phone first.
Then I flashed Clockwork recovery on it
THEN I had a smorgishboard selection of "Roms" to put on my phone.
Here's where i'm confused with the Galaxy S 2, and Terminology really..
What "do we have" here with the SGS2 so far?
Just rooting it? I see over on the dev section people talking about all these kernels... what is that? are they like Roms? Has anyone mad a rom? can we flash it like clockwork mod recovery?
Just a little confused with the differences in terminology and procedures over here on the samsung side.. thanks
No custom roms yet, no CWM either. Just kernels and root....the kernel is a bridge between applications and hardware basically. Terminology shouldn't be that much different really.
computermilk said:

Kernels are the base interface between OS and hardware and part of a rom
Has anyone mad a rom? no can we flash it like clockwork mod recovery? no
Far to early for all that SGS2 been out a week + devs in many cases do not yet have SGS2 ( donate one to them ) .
Devs are not getting paid for all this work so as and when they find time and the money to buy SGS2 .
SGS2 is being worked on and no doubt more in the future .

Bear in mind things don't always get posted as soon as they're done. I don't like releasing things that I can't test, so I've got some stuff for as soon as mine actually turns up...
The stock issues have slowed things down a LOT.

They're just different, CWM just doesn't need a PC to flash the FW...that's all.

[i9001]Discussions about development of CM7 and CM9

Hi to all!
I've created this topic that we can discuss about the CM7 and CM9 ROMs that are in development, and not flood the development topic with Q&As. Feel free to post!
How to avoid bricking the SGS+
I've heard that this phone is somewhat easy to brick. This made me think twice before doing some 'serious stuff' with the phone, like trying to make a CM7 or ICS ROM. Can somebody tell me how to avoid bricking this phone? And is it risky to flash source-built ROMs? It would be good if someone tell me the partitions of the phone (in which is stored what: e.g. in which partition is the kernel, the bootloader, etc.).
Thanks in advance!
You can get the most important partitions from the wiki: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/GT-I9001#Partitions
I once dumped all partitions and can verify that the most important stuff is below the kernel partition, so don't mess with them. mmcblk0p14 is a parameter partition (thx skywalker01) for the bootloader, that is what causes some devices (including mine) not to work 100% correct with CWM. You can only get out of recovery boot loop by dd'ing zeros to that partition.

looking back at this post u gave very high expectations . Anyways, building a rom from source isn't hard at all, the tough part is to make the hardware work, so most probably u'll end up with a non working touchscreen for a start, not to mention u need a kernel that'll make it boot at all. As for the partitions, skywalker is the man to ask, i can tell u though that the kernel (boot.img) is in /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 .

Thanks. I was looking for the bootloader partition, because if you mess it up, your phone wouldn't boot at all. If you mess up the kernel partition, your phone won't be able to boot into the OS, but it will be able to boot in CWM and Download mode. I'm asking this here because I heard that this phone has weird partitions, so I want to be sure I'm not going to brick my phone doing these stuff.
Hello all
Today i've made small performance comparation of CM7 KANG and Teamhacksung's ICS b14.
Please note that this KANG is used by me for everyday use with over 60 apps installed, without any scripts etc. (only Chainfire 3D @ nVidia) and ICS is freshly installed. All tests made on airplane mode.
Standard 1000MHz, ondemand, no UV/OV.
I plan to made comparation with latest Samsung ROM.

as wintel already said and as it's mentioned in the wiki (WARNING: Partitions below 8 contain absolutely vital stuff like the primary boot loader responsible for low-level hardware initialization. Messing with them is what leads to fully bricked phones because you will not be able to get into download mode anymore! ) . but for any detailed info, contact skywalker

This lol
I remembered when I first got my tab (in short, I traded a laptop, Xbox 360, and games used for a brand new SGT). First thing I did was rooted it via some app. Then I proceeded to install busybox for some reason, then thought "meh I feel like going back to stock" so I just uninstalled busybox (ignoring whatever message it said about not uninstalling it).
Tab didn't reboot, then I panicked and tried flashing something with Odin (not sure what it was, but I ended up trying to fill all the boxes in Odin with some files and then flashing). It failed
Eventually, I then just gave up trying to keep stock and went with Overcome
So I'm pretty lucky to still have my tab lol...
Nowadays, I find it easy to try out different ROM's (I always just restock according to Overcome's GB guide, then proceed to flash a custom ROM and Kernel)
I'd recommend spending some time on Froyo stock for a bit, then eventually trying to update to either stock Gingerbread, or another stable Gingerbread ROM (such as Overcome or Hyperdroid). Then do a bit of research and then try to go to ICS.
Just be careful on what your flashing, always double-check things, and check out people's feedback
Edit:

I believe the roger's tab uses the GT-P1000 kernel but I'm not sure...do a quick search or ask the guys here.
Oh and btw, HumberOS build is quite outdated compared to the releases from Slim's build which can be found here. This ROM .zip already comes with kernel so it should work just fine on your tab I guess? And don't forget to flash gapps after ROM, but I guess that's pretty obvious judging from the other devices you messed with lol

I also bricked my Tab a few times when I started flashing ROMs on it not too bad tho since it's pretty much impossible to hardbrick the tab afaik, I never did and I flashed some pretty dumb stuff on it lol just keep a GB Stock ROM in your pc to flash with Odin/Heimdall and reflash it whenever you softbrick your tab that's what I used to do that or Overcome ROM.

Welcome!
Just a quick note on flashing the tab. As you already noticed, you should get on Gingerbread bootloaders first. The rest is up to you, all current ROMs for our Tab can be flashed on top of them. Seeing you got over the softbrick with Overcome, you should be home free already.
PS: also make sure your tab is charged at more than 10% before you start flashing or you might not be able to get into recovery or download mode. It may look like a softbrick, but you just need to let it charge...
Peace and happy flashing!

No, it's a different phone and the ROMs are not compatible at all.
i've seen some tutorials on how to upgrade to ICS on u8800-51 fairly complicated and the way i understand it as they are built for other models y should loose 4g and provably some other funcions? Is there a Dev that is working exclusively on u8800-51 or that can help us develop new roms built for our phones?
(BTW, how retarded is on huaweis behelf not to give support for a phone that is the upgraded version of IDEOS X5 and give the older version of the phone GB but not u8800-51)

Quite good.. defenitely going to try porting the 5.1 from the Core Prime.. my first guess that we'll run into Camera issues since they have different cameras, we might need compatible G355H (or similar) camera lib for 5.1 if the older libs will run into compatibility issues.

Ok I will search and see if I find one
I didn't found any Android device with L ROM/Firmware with the exact same Camera specs as the GC2. One question: The Moto E (1st Gen) has the same Camera specs but he hasn't Front Camera... Is it possible to use the lib from this device and make front camera work? [emoji4]
Hit the Thanks Button if I helped

As per samsungs database core 2 (SM-G355H) & Core prime (SM-G360H) have common camera.

so i think we're good, will be easy to port.
Update: Well... i've done some more researching and it seems like only the G360F is getting the Android 5 update and the device specifications differ..
G355H: http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/c7bd2c38
G360H: http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/9ea92fe9 (No difference from G355H)
G360F: http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/18f33232 (Differs from both G355H and G360H)
@white-energy

Pretty good catch there mate!
I've poked around in google and found the firmwares: http://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G531H/
Will definitely mess around with it asap.
Update: Oh i just checked the specifications of that model and it seems that the G531H isn't the Grand Prime VE.. emm.. hopefully we'll see that model out..
Update 2: It's confusing.. i can't find some solid info anywhere..
Update 3: Okay.. found something useful and it seems that the SM-G531H is the correct model that contains the same SoC as the G355H.. so we're good.

Sorry but hardly. G531 has 8 GB of internal storage(system reserved aprox. 1.6 GB because system image for G531 is larger than 1.4 GB ) and our G355 4 GB (system reserved aprox. 1.1 GB) so I don't see that fit.

well, porting already working rom from one device to another is one thing. But what rom (device) would you use?? No one build cm-11.0 for any device similar to ours. I have been searching a lot...
Building from source is totally different thing. A lot of time time to find needed proprietary files, setting up device tree, patching if needed and than building with no errors. And finale is it rom bootable or not.
I build cm-11 rom for g355hn but all I got is cm boot logo and 50-60 lines of logcat where I could seen successful loading wifi modules, loading MALI libs and some display drivers and than boom. Logcat stop and I'm in boot loop where I can't see anything else what cause phone from booting.
So if anyone can help my sources are right here:
