The part where the display is becomes shaky a bit when you slide open the keyboard
Is that something that I should be concerned about or is it normal?
I think it's normal. I've examined four X1a's and they all had a small amount of play in the top part of the slider when open.
Mine has also a slight play to it (back and forth). Noticed this on the Raphael as well.
Keep in mind though, that the slider is only supported by two metal hooks situated (when keyboard out) at one end of the screen. So guess it's normal.
The play will also increase as the phone gets older (wear and tear). As long as the screen doesn't fall off I guess it's ok.
To prolong the life though, I try to be gentle when opening and support the screen when it's open (to reduce the wear and tear).
Mine's shaky when closed. Went to the service centre thrice and everytime they said it was normal.
Mine is a bit shaky as well. even when closed, but afer giving it some thought, i guess it impossible to make it totaly solid, at least with this form. i annoyes me, though. pressing the keys and you feel how it bends a little. when opened, I am afraid to press the little x or soething else on top of the screen, at least without supporting the lower side with my other hand.

I support it when open, cause it's impossible to make it solid (@least not in this form factor). It's easy enough for me though.. cause the phone fits in my palm so easy (and way easier than other phones I've had - But I do miss the tilting screen from Kaiser though..then again, that needed major support when tilted)
I am new to this board, hello everybody!
I have my X1 for a week now. On mine the top part is shaky when closed, it moves ~1mm up/down opposite of the slider hinges. Anyone else?
It annoys me, but I hope it is okay and won't get worse.
Greets and have Fun with Your X1s!
i think it's normal. I noticed that as soon as I took it out of the box and was very worried. it's my first slider phone and i didn't know what was normal and what was not. reading threads like this was very reassuring for me. I just hope it won't get loose, if it stays like that, then i'm happy.
It seems really solid to me. No movement at all unless I push on it. I’m guessing it will loosen up over time.
same here, closed and opened. When I press gently in opposite corners when closed, it waggles slightly. I got annoyed/worried about this after purchasing the phone few months ago and went to the store to ask about it. I got to test three different X1s and they were all similar, so it's not a problem (or at least it's by the design
A bit annoying still though, especially when using touchscreen with your fingers. Mostly when pressing on the right side of the screen (down-right being the worst), it waggles slightly under your fingers.
Same here too. About 1mm up and down when closed, and when open, same.
And yes Jent, it does waggle a bit. Try using the phone when you're lying in bed, and hold the phone upside down... every press will move the screen about 1mm and it gets annoying very quickly.
i also have the problem with the upper corner^^
I have an HTC hero and I am having problems with the bottom third of the screen. I cannot "click and hold" in order to drag a program icon, for instance. Instead it just registers the click, and not the hold! Very annoying.
I have MoDaCo custom rom 1.5 on it, but don't think this could be a software/firmware issue. I don't recall it being a problem before, so it appears it has developed a fault!
Nightmare. Anyone experienced anything similar and an easy way to fix it?
James
Hi,
I can't actually help you but i can tell you the first iphones would develop a similar problem with their touchscreen where sensitivity dropped off, especially near the edges. This turned out to be a coating wearing off.
This seems to be happening from time to time with capacitive screens.
If you are sure it's a hardware issue, i wouldn't hesitate to send it back.
Kr,
-Kevin
Have you tried re-starting the phone?
Yes, and it made no difference. But pulling the battery and restarting (I had to do this to get theserial number fot HTC support!) worked!!
Cheers
James
You could also download a "Draw" app to test all areas of the screen.
When I first had mine I had problems hitting the Backspace on the portrait keyboard, I tried a calibrate but I think its better now because my finger knows where to go.
I find my screen seems more responsive when the phone is in my hand, less so if lying on a table. Is this a quirk of a capacitve screen or more to do with the angle of attack?

This. It doesn't seem even remotely responsive when I have it lying down flat on any surface, but as soon as I pick it up it works again.

The metal bezel actually acts as a grounding point between the capacitive areas that don't have any adjacent space to get a good contact...

Some irony there.
My touch screen is unresponsive after I pull my streak out of my pocket.
After a minute or so it start working again.
When I first received it I did not have this issue.
I have flashed DJ_Steve's rom.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Should I send it back to Dell?
just saw your post after posted my one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876931
did u try in landscape mode?
So when I pull my streak out of my pocket it is on the lock screen, which for me is always landscape.
And with the screen unresponsive I can't unlock it.
To add a little more detail, sometimes the screen is only partly unresponsive. e.g. I can sometimes partly move the sound drag button, or the unlock button, but not fully.
I have had this issue after flashing 1.4.6, my streak is in landscape. I used dell 1.6 before that with no issue.
I have been using no lock off the market, when at home to by pass the problem, however the screen can still be unresponsive but only parts of it, for example one row of apps on the home screen can be pressed but others cannot.

Have you guys tried to do a screen calibration that worked for my streak 2.2 Dell bug fix version
It's not just you guys, I have this problem as well. I miss atleast 5 calls a day because I can't get it to slide to answer the phone call. As far as the home screen from pulling out of the pocket, I have found the pattern unlock to work the best with no problems. If I get a phone call, I try pressing the go back button on the capacitive screen and turn it to landscape and it seems to work. A pain...but I guess running a custom ROM has to come with a little sacrifice. I'll live though.
Doing the screen recalabrate worked.
That so does not make scene but it appears to have fixed my problem.
Thanks
No prob man

I have found that doing a long press on the power button to bring up the power of menu, then going back to home screen makes it all responsive again. Not a fix but lets me unlock with out having to wait for a minute or so.
I've had a similar problem before too when I first got the streak! Try keeping it in your pocket facing out and away from your leg instead of toward...
Also - maybe the type of material a person wears might affect it. I noticed this problem occurred more in my jeans facing my leg than in my suit pants facing out.
Mine's been doing this since I went to 2.2
Evidently the update made the screen more temperature sensitive or less, depends on how you look at it. I noticed that if I had the phone in my pocket facing my body, it was unresponsive until the screen cooled. Then it responded again. If I put my phone in pocket facing away from body, no issues. I also noticed it was unresponsive after I was on the phone talking ( the heat from my cheek?).
Have not found a resolution to this other than to keep the screen "cool" at all times so it would respond to the warmth of my fingers.
Just another bug in the 2.2 update it seems, so until Dell does something about it, Punk'd by Dell.

+1. I started putting it in my pocket screen out a few days ago (whether jeans pocket or inside jacket pocket), and it hasn't happened once since. When I do forget and put it in my pocket facing in, it's a 50/50 chance it will happen.
It seems as though constant contact with skin (through a thin layer of cloth) desensitizes the capacitive screen somehow, even (or only?) when the screen is off. Strange that the issue never occurred on Donut. (I'm on DJ Steve's Froyo 1.5.1 now.)
I hadn't thought about temperature as a possibility, and I doubt that's all there is to it. Anyone live in an extremely warm climate who has had trouble with screen sensitivity in other circumstances?

This can be greatly reduced by the way you carry it in your pocket... I'd much rather have it facing inward - but then the sticky unlock acts up. Facing outward it rarely happens.
I don't think anyone noticed this on donut because you only had to press the menu key to unlock... not use the screen. Question is, was this happening on 2.1?

I will try that for a few days, I had noticed that it did not happen if left the phone on the side or on my desk all day.

I always used a pattern unlock on Donut, not the Menu key, and this never once happened in over a month of daily use. Day one after installing Froyo I had to stop using the pattern unlock because it was driving me nuts trying to unlock the thing after taking it out of my pocket. Of course, any unlock I tried was impossible with this issue, and the only thing that really worked was just waiting for it to start working again.
No idea about 2.1, I only had it installed for about an hour.
i solved putting the streak in pockets with the screen towards the ouside of the pocket, and not facing the leg
+1million to all of this.
This was driving me nuts, thought I was the only one, exchanged the streak once already because of it.
Just had my coworker the cubicle across from mine try putting his streak in his pocket for 15 minutes, pulled it out, SHAZAM, touch screen didnt work for a few minutes.
Verified here on 3 streaks. 1 on 1.6 and 2 on 2.2 all have the same issue. 1.6 unlocks, but then nothing works until you mess with the facebook app, or another scrolling app, then everything works again.
did anyone happen to report this to dell? I think we might start to have a case here.
Another one with this problem. Noticed it yesterday. Screen facing in. Will try to face outwards next time in a warm building with carrying in pocket.
Same thing here though. Cant move the unlock but can slide the sound just a little bit. Funny ****
So I've browsed around and there are plenty of screen issues, but I haven't seen the one I'm experiencing nor have I seen a solution. When I press the power button my screen comes on and turns off right away. Sometimes a few seconds after I hit the power button sometimes even longer. Most times I won't even be able to put in my security pin to unlock the phone. I see people saying Verizon will do an update soon but that isn't good enough considering I can't use the phone. I did find a loop hole to this problem. Quick start the camera with the volume down button then press the home button after the camera loads and it won't shut off by itself. I thought I'd post this method up for others having this frustration.
If this particular problem has been discussed and beaten to death then the mods can close the thread.
I've got a YouTube link but I don't have 10 posts to show you. Search for user name "vfreeza" and it is the only video I've uploaded. You'll see my first time turning the screen on was using the quick camera method and the times after is with just the power button. The screen turns off without even my hand touching the phone.
don't cover the sensor on the upper left hand side
Yup I read that too. My fingers rest at the corners of the phone and I've tried the not cover sensor thing as well, makes no difference.
Wish I could disable the sensor. I hate this problem

Just a quick update. I bought a Diztronic tpu case and the moment I put it on all the problems went away. Screen acted nornal and knock works. My guess is without the case my hand is making some kind of connection it shouldn't be when I'm holding it without a case.

Did your old case hug the bezels tight? because it tends to mess with the digitizer perhaps the incipio feather case? or a plastic case of some sort? just curious im pretty sure that was your problem cause if you barely press on the screen youll notice waves in the lcd screen and since the bezels are so small on this device some cases can do that.

Thanks! This case is never coming off! haha
My phone has that very problem and it's driving me insane.. i love this phone, but it truly is a hassel to use it after its been idle for awhile.. or at night... hands no where near the sensor or anything, it could be laying straight up or down n itll still have that problem.. thanks for reading.
I normally just wipe the sensor area, n it magically starts working again.. n i don't touch it, n the problem comes back after awhile....
Also naked phone besides screen protector, but it's not covering up the sensor.
My phone does the same thing. It's so ****ing annoying.
I have looked very closely into this issue and it seems that the phone registers a touch when my finger is very close to the screen. It doesn't seem like an issue, but it is. Often when I'm scrolling through youtube videos, it plays a video. This is because right before I touch the screen and want to drag it, it actually selects one of the videos first. This is really annoying. It even happens when typing. I get the same letter twice because it first detects the touch when my finger is near, and then I press it, which gives 2 touches. Anyone else with this problem? Is there a way to turn this ''feature'' off?
Can't say I've seen this happening and even when slowly getting closer, I only type a letter with Swiftkey when I actually hit the glass. Maybe this thread can help? forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/how-to-increase-touch-sensitivity-t3443052

I tried this but this is not the problem as I'm not even touching the glass yet the phone registers it (I have turned on "Show touch movement" in dev options). I looked very closely with my eye to really assure I'm not actually touching it. It happens when my finger is really close to the glass. Really strange. Am I the only one having this happen?
