hi everyone, im planning to get the htc trophy but there is one small thing holding me back- i want to know whether the trophy's screen is slcd or lcd. Some review sites are claiming that its slcd, some normal lcd whilst others say that it depends on the different batches pocketnow.com/windows-phone/htc-7-trophy-slower-than-omnia-7-showing-screen-problems it would be great if anyone could tell me whether it is slcd or normal lcd based on viewing angles. i am planning to buy from vodafone AU so if any in australia has one, i would be particularly grateful if they could tell me what type of screen type it is
Unless you can see it for yourself there's no way to be sure.
It should come with SLCD. I'd say 95% chance.
The difference is indeed quit striking. Not only colours when viewing from an angle but even more the contrast/grey levels.
Mine is SLCD. I love it. And a friend's Trophy is. In fact all Trophy's I have seen but one had SLCD. The LCD one was one of the very first Trophy's.
Is it true that the display of Mozart have more vibrant colors than the display of Trophy and it looks then better than the Trophy one?
Thanx.
I've read on several sites about this phone and i'm planning to buy one but the problem is i'm confused whether this device is pumped up with a LCD, TFT capacitive or AMOLED screen? now some websites state that it has AMOLED tft capacitive screen. I would like to have some clarification about this. and some feedback would be appreciative about this device...
The first stock had AMOLED screens, now they are produced with TFT's you may be able to find an AMOLED one via ebay etc.
Many people will say there isn't much difference anyway.
Well actually, there's a huge difference..see for yourself !

Yes it's brighter etc but also the con being screen burn!
Anyway you will have to buy second hand or old stock for AMOLED
Glad baught mine when first came out...
It's actually quite easy to find out if your Blade has the AMOLED or TFT screen.
Go to settings> About phone> Build number
If it ends in 05, it's an AMOLED. If it ends in 08, you've got yourself a LCD. (This is only true for grey devices.)
I'm considering purchasing a Dell Venue Pro for AT&T. At $300, it seems like a pretty good deal, even if the new ones are coming out soon.
My question, does it have a PenTile screen? That would definitely be a deal-killer.
No, it has full RGB amoled screen. Not super-amoled.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The Venue Pro does have a PenTile (also known as Bayermatrix) Screen, its not the standard Matrix like a LCD would have.
Its a standard Samsung amoled, no super or super+
You certainly notice it on very bright colors, but its not as bad as i expected (its my first amoled phone)
Hmm. Two replies with conflicting answers and no answers by looking at specs. Anyone else? If it has PenTile, there is ZERO chance I will buy it. I had a Nexus One and I hated that screen.
It is PenTile, visible with the naked eye.
So far as I know, all Samsung AMOLED screens were PenTile until Super AMOLED Plus (as seen in SGS2). The tech was just not there to deliver a true RGB matrix for a reasonable price.
Damn. Oh well, saved myself $300. There is no way I will buy another PenTile screen.
Thanks for the help!
What's wrong with a PenTile screen?
I absolutely love the screen on the DVP. It's the best screen on any phone I've ever had. I hate super amoled and super amoled plus, I like my whites to be white. Not yellow.
I bought a Dell Venue Pro a few weeks ago and can tell you that the screen really is good. Colors are really ok and although the screen size is rather large, you will not be able to see any disadvantages due to the PenTile screen. I suggest if you are interested in buying one, then simply go to a shop and take a look at the screen for yourself and you will see that it is really good.
I compared it to quite a lot phones (such as LG Optimus P990, Palm Pre, Samsung Galaxy i9000 / i9100) and can say that the screen is far better than all the usual LCD screens and has no visable disadvantage compared to Super Amoled (Plus).
I do not believe the DVP is sold in any shops near me. The Microsoft Store had it when they first opened in November, but not anymore. I didn't get a great look at the screen back then, though. I was mainly looking at the hardware and it looked very nice.
I can't buy another PenTile screen, though. I can notice the crappy image that PenTile causes, especially to text. It was very noticeable on my Nexus One screen, the DVP has an even larger screen with the same resolution, making it more noticeable.

Same here and I agree
What do you think about the CGS/LTPS display ? I'm okay with the resolution but not sure if it will be close to enough to being as good as an Amoled. The G6 display in comparison to S8 looked quite poor to me. I'm guessing Essential is sourcing these displays from Sharp.
Matter of taste - I prefer a good LCD to an AMOLED, not least because I keep my phones for a few years and AMOLED degrades with use (colour shifts and loss of brightness for sure, burn-in for some people).
My advice is always to see what the actual display is like rather than making assumptions based on specs.
I have also noticed in some situations that super amoled has certain response timing issues. Which can cause significant Halo. It's not terrible. But I am a firm believer that just because everyone wants it. Doesn't make it best. Amoled definitely has pros and cons.

As an S8 user and someone that very pro AMOLED I scoffed when I saw the display specs. However I picked up a Mate 9 last week and was extreamly impressed with the LCD display. I'm not going to say it's better but it's it's nice enough for me to use and not miss the AMOLED. I did end up returning it as the software side drove me nuts.
What about battery life? Isn't LCD (with its backlight) generally worse for battery life than AMOLED? Or is that less true than it used to be?
AMOLED efficiency depends a lot on the image. With a dark image it's efficient, with a lot of white it always used to use more power than LCD. With LCD the power usage doesn't really change with what you are displaying.
So how is everyone's experience with regards to display uniformity of the Asus ZMPM1? My screen has some issues and I want to know how common these are and if getting a replacement would be wise.
The only reason I went for an IPS LCD display this time instead of an AMOLED was because I was sick of the AMOLED screen lottery where a lot of screens have tints / uneven backlight/ visible mura effects (and also because the Asus was dirt cheap). My previous phones (SGS4, SGS6) both had these kinds of issues and I hoped things would be different this time. But unfortunately the Pro M1 I got from Flipkart is slightly darker/yellower at the bottom. It's noticeable only when brightness is pretty low, but it's still distracting. Should I get a replacement? Or is it not worth the hassle/risk (since the replacement might be worse, as was the case with my SGS6).

I have the same issue, lcd is darker bottom side. I didn't opt for replacement as the same condition might be with the replacement unit.

I have the 6 gb variant. So far i didn't have any issues with the display.
Yes my screen is also slightly darker n has kind of black blur on the bottom of the nav bar a bit yellowish too on the bottom part, but if u turn it upside down the upper part will also be the same, i have the 4gb version, but interestingly its more vivid and contrasty than other ips lcd, almost like an amoled display, cmiiw
