Fire OS 7 for 4k Firestick? - Fire TV General

I really want that new google tv launcher for my 4k stick. However app requires minimum android 8. Will there ever be fire os 7 (android 9) update for this device? Or is it possible to port this app to fire os 6?

i dont think they will push an oreo/pie update through to mantis 4k . The reason being is that theyve just produced these new crap 3rd Generation Pendants/sticks and also the Lite Edition . So basically instead of upgrading the OS of the best devices (Mantis & Sloane ) they have been greedy and produced more devices to encourage people to spend more .
you can find more information on devices here :

Benchmarking the new Fire TV Stick Lite & Fire TV Stick 3 against every other Fire TV model
Now that the new 2020 Amazon Fire TV Stick 3 and Fire TV Stick Lite have been released, it's time to see how they stack up against existing Fire TV models, past and present.

If you can find a google stick benchmark test...

I had one and returned it 2 days ago . It;s similar in speed but I must say the launcher is pretty sweet. I returned it caused it was mad buggy for me I would get constant blue screens while using it . Even after a reload then I realized how much I value my 4k mantis as Iused root more than I realized and its Highly customized how I want it .

It depends how comfortable you are with flashing and modding. You'll have to do this on the Kindle Fire to get the Android Market/Google Play on it as you won't be able to use the Amazon Appstore at all being outside the US.
The Ainovo comes with ICS where as the Kindle Fire ICS has a few bugs such as hardware video acceleration. I do like the Kindle Fire Stock ROM and have flashed Paul Obrien's ROM. I use the Android market for any of my app needs, to hell with Amazon and their walled garden.
I'm a fan of the Kindle Fire tbh. It's a solid tablet with easy to find accessories. I just don't think it's for "Joe consumer" that lives outside of the US if they don't want to mod their tablet.
Hope that helps.
On the one hand yes I want to change android, develop it. You know installing custom roms ant etc. But on the other hand Novo 7 reads SD cards have HDMI connection but big minus is that you cant change anything and therebis no Google Play. But it is cheaper than Kindle. So I am really mest uo but I think I will buy Kindle from Ebay.co.uk couse just from there they are sending to Lithuania

I personally think the Fire is better...unless you just have to have the camera. The 800x480 resolution of the Novo would drive me bonkers.

Kindle Fire all the way! Dual core, Amazon services, Gorilla glass, its all good. Plus, tons of mods!
Which Novo 7? There are several.... Build quality and support are always going to be an issue with Ainol....might get lucky and the unit is fine...or have dead pixels and screen seperation like folks are getting with the Novo 7 Aurora...

^What they said. Also, what was mentioned above... unless you absolutely want a camera that you'll use sporadically, then sure go for the other. The Kindle's a nice little toy.
I chosed Ainol Novo 7 Aurora, which have 1 gb processor, micro sd slot, hdmi out, IPS screen (same as iPad 2) and 1080p HD quality. and I think it is better than Kindle also you get 1 year warranty and it cost less and it have orginal ICS with Google Play.
Kindle Fire
You will have much more ROMs to choose from for the Kindle Fire. It is supposed to be the second most popular tablet at this point. And if you need HWA you can always use CM7 until ICS is a little more stable. It might be a little more money, but you get a device that you will be able to find accessories for as well as a plethora of ROMs
Additional Storage
Kindle Fire does NOT allow you to add any storage. At 8GB you may very well find yourself extremely limited when attempting to add media.
Ainovo Novo 7 on the other hand has up to 32GB expandable storage, which means you can have unlimited storage because you can also switch out differnt cards. Say you want 32GB of music on one MicroSD card, then you can put other things on another card. Even one 32GB MicroSD is probably fine, but 8 or 16GB is certainly not sufficient.
p.s. ICS is perfectly stable.

Nexus Player UK owners

I own both a nexus Player and a Fire TV and it seems that there is very little in the way of apps on the Nexus Player. It is great for Kodi and netflix but that seems about it, there is TV Player but the quality of the picture is not great and I notice that on the Nexus Player and Fire TV it can be a bit buggy to start sometimes. None of the national broadcasters have any apps and things in general for video are slim pickings.
Are there any worth while apps to get? I like the way Pluto TV integrates with the Live Channels app so was thinking of getting a TV tuner for my PC to rig up all the OTA channels. Its a great little box with a reasonably nice interface but app support is sorely lacking. I would have thought that with it being a TV platform that other manufactures are using it would have had a massive catalogue by now.
I own an Nvidia Shield Android TV which like many non-Nexus Android TV devices has a device-specific iPlayer app. You could try side-loading it, though I doubt that would work. Here's a link to the forum where you can find the .apk anyway:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/nvidia-shield-android-tv-uk-t3214570/page4
I have no idea exactly why the BBC is making its service only partially available on the platform. Amazon are doing the same by only making Prime Video available on Sony Android TVs, but they obviously have their commercial reasons as they run the competing Fire TV platform.
On a side note I recently heard that there was a new Prime Video add-on for Kodi, though you'll have to try this for yourself as I haven't had a chance yet.
It seems that Channel 4 and ITV have no interest in the platform, however the Fire TV is itself a running a fork of Android. Maybe you could try ripping some of the .apks (such as iPlayer and 4OD) from the Fire TV and side-loading onto the Nexus Player. Again I doubt this will work smoothly but maybe it's worth a shot.
Other than that though, let's just cross our fingers and hope that we haven't invested in Google TV 2.0.

Amazon fire tv 4k box to a nvidia shield

Hi guys ,
Just after a bit of info reguarding a possible purchase of a nvidia shield from a amazon fire tv box. Would like to know if you guys think its worth it?
I will only be using it to stream won't be gaming on it at all I have a xbox one for that. Be using SPMC/KODI.
Few things bug me about the Amazon fire tv 2 box and thats how limited it is for getting apps. I have SPMC installed on it, I see if i needed a VPN its a problem. Also how much RAM is being used going into SPMC 60% used already.
So will i see any benefit going in for a shield or just stick with what i have?
Thanks

The Shield is an upgrade for sure, but if you're JUST using it to stream, I'd stick with AFTV personally. I don't know if you'll see any real difference within Kodi at all (maybe it's a tad more snappy in navigation? But Fire TV is pretty fast even with some heavier skins). Not sure what apps you aren't able to get/use? You can install Playstore (if rooted) or sideload a lot of Android apps. I assume you're not talking about games. That's a different story.
As for RAM usage, that's quite normal. Android will try to utilize as much as it can. Mine fluctuates between 50-60ish% with Kodi. It can go higher if I'm using advanced settings for buffering, but there's no noticeable impact on performance.
So yea if you really just want a good streaming device, probably save your money and stick with AFTV.

Like @KLit75 said... It's very simple...
NVidia Shield (any version) = Best AndroidTV device period. Best for high end Android Games (Twice the cost for twice the hardware. Full 4K streaming device)
FTV2 = Great for Streaming & regular to light gaming. (Half the cost. Lower 4k device (30 FPS). Still great hardware for streaming & regular to light gaming & expandable storage)
FTVS2 = Still good for Streaming & light gaming. Comparable with FTV1's. (Even cheaper then the FTV2 & still pretty good for streaming & light gaming)
If you already know you won't be gaming on your device. Then the next question to ask yourself is how much 4k @ 60 FPS will you be doing.
With a little research you can find out how easy it is to sideload apps on any FireTV device. There are half a dozen ways to do it. For example: http://www.aftvnews.com/introducing...e-tv-app-which-makes-sideloading-dead-simple/
And there are even mods like changing the default keyboard that do not require Root.
I am waiting to see what FTV3's will have in-store later this year before even thinking of upgrading my FTV1's. They are still doing their job just fine. This includes some light gaming.
I might even advise to wait for a sale on the FTVS2 & have that hold you over until the FTV3's & other devices become available later at the end of the year.
Hmm ok chaps thanks!
I think ill hold off on the shield then as I said i will only be using the shield for streaming nothing else. I don't even own a 4k tv yet
Amazon fire tv 2 is a good streamer 8GB storage is annoying. but Ive had amlogic devices with S805 S905's and with those i do notice more lock ups in kodi/spmc and freezes. I don't see any of that with the amazon fire tv.
Does anyone know when the new Amazon fire tv box 3 will be out? the amazon fire tv box 2 came out late in the UK was early 2016.
Thanks

No 4k TV's here either & don't plan to upgrade my TV's for another decade if I'm lucky. :fingers-crossed: By that time the tech will be beyond 4k.
Find a good free build specially made with FTVS's in mind like the FireTVGuru (www.FireTVGuru.net) builds. Add or subtract what you need. And you shouldn't have any problems in Kodi/SPMC. I actually run both + FireMC to try different builds. And since they get updates at different rates.
As for storage. Get a fast USB 3.0 Stick or even better a fast MicroSD card for your FTV2. I can easily install 20+ apps (was doing some testing) on my FTV1 without any extra storage. I steam a lot thru Opera v37 & Chrome browsers this days.
With a fast enough USB 3.0 Stick or MicroSD card. You can move all of Kodi to the external drive. Just follow this guide: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-partially-or-entirely-move-kodi-data-to-external-usb-storage/
I doubt you'll see an FTV in the UK in 2017. Since the FTVS2 is still not available there yet. So I think a sure bet would be no FTV3's in the UK until the 2nd quarter of 2018. Unless Amazon does some major changes to their launching system.

Ok I suppose ill just wait for the new amazon fire tv 3 box then, I don't like the firesticks the new the stick is actually slower than the amazon fire tv 2 box currently so not interested in that. may have to wait until 2018 then, hopefully the performance of the box will still hold up for new verisons of kodi.

No Display Mirroring in FIRE HD 8 (8th Gen)

Hey Guys,
I just now bought fire hd8(8gh gen) and i found our that it doesn't support display mirroring.
I don't know why Amazon decided to go in the reverse direction of technological evolution and for some reason they are removing display mirroring from all their latest devices like FIRE HD 8 and 10, fire TV stick 4k.
Here are my questions:
1) does anyone know the reason of this getting removed?
2) Is there a work around to make it working?

Not a great buy at the moment IMO. You can usually get deals for the FireTV 4K Stick for ~$25. The cube is more than 3x the price.
Why would you invest so much in the cheap crappy devices? Might as well jsut get a real Android TV box.

Well I like Amazon devices and when side loaded with the right apps they work very well, I was using the Amazon Fire TV 2nd Gen (the flat square one) which I still think was Amazons best. I saw a Cube going a lot cheaper so bought one and well so far it's working great. The trouble with my old 2nd gen was the low on storage issue even though it was not really low on storage I think Amazon as slipped something on there to make it look as if the storage was low. The Cube I think is not a cheap crappy device at all and I would not go back to an Android box, ever.
Some other cons..
1. Amazon Game Controllers are no longer supported
2. Many sideloaded app icons show blank
I love mine though regardless of it's faults, with custom launcher anyway. Was finally worth the upgrade at prime day prices from my 2nd gen fire tv box.
2. Many sideloaded app icons show blank
Yes have a couple of apps were the icon does not load but they still work OK, but it does spoil the Cube. Also when I used my old TV 2nd gen (flat one) my amp would be turned up to 2 to 3 lights this Cube as to be turned up 5 to 6 lights so there is also a sound issue.

But you are on an Android box. You are rooting your device to make it closer to an Android box. You are basically telling people you prefer the Android software over native Android then what in gods name are you doing on XDA?
OK I see your point the Cube runs on Android and as for rooting to be honest I have no idea how to root

Yes, it completely ruins the UI. I use Wolf Launcher instead. Would of returned it and carried on using 2nd gen box if no custom launcher..
..and not supporting their own controller, forcing me to sell it and use an xbox pad.. really ****ty move on their part.
Other than that though, yeah.. it's without a doubt the best amazon device.
If they put an Android TV version of All4 on the store though, I'd probably buy a shield. I also have games and apps I paid for on Amazon, which stops me getting a shield.
i think the broken icons are to do with the server where amazon gets its apps/icons from. when we install our apps the appstore cross references the apk and its icon/logo/banner with the ones on its server. if the apk isnt recognised on amazons server it presents it as a broken icon. i think there is a way round the broken icon thingy if you google atvlauncher trek icon design there is an icon generation page that lets you create your own in fact here is the link http://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de/

The Sloane is an older model, that means older version of android so probably more availability of icons.
I'm only surmising now but it's possible the icons maybe device specific and that more are available for the Sloane version of firmware?
I did read something about the broken icons being caused by certain apps for certain devices not being available from amazon app store.
