Phone: Galaxy S3 Neo
Model: GT-I9301l
Android version: 4.4.2
CSC: ITV
Note: the phone is not mine but it belongs to a friend of mine, so I don't have it in my hands.
I ask for advice on which custom Rom can run well on this phone, preferably Android 5.1 or higher. The use is not stressful as it requires only messaging apps like WhatsApp and web browsing, plus some other apps incompatible with KitKat.
I took a look at another thread but still have some doubts and I would like to be sure what to install.

Hey there. I'm new to these forums. This is the reason why I actually made this account hahah
Basically. I've just brought a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505, really nice phone, loving it.The phone is on the Telecom NZ (XT) network and currently runs Android 4.2.2. What I want to do is load up the latest version of the Cyanogenmod that is most stable for both my cellular carrier and my phone. I'm quite new to playing around with the software on Android devices. But I do find it very interesting. So be generous with me hahah I pretty much want a ROM that will still be able to run all of the cool features that the S4 offers but without the stupid bloatware. I'm sussed when it comes to rooting, that's easily enough done. But when it comes to finding a ROM that won't brick my device or recieve service, and in general loading the ROM onto my phone, I'm a bit lost. If any of you could help that would be amazing.
My phone info:
Model Number: GT-I9505
Android Version: 4.2.2
Basband Version: I9505XXUBMG4
Kernal Version:

Welcome to XDA
Firstly before flashing any ROM backup your EFS and keep it safe, it might get you out of trouble if things go wrong
To back up EFS open a terminal emulator (can download from play store) on device and type the following:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/mnt/sdcard/efs.img.ext4
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/mnt/sdcard/m9kefs1.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/mnt/sdcard/m9kefs2.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/m9kefs3.bin
If you want the stock S4 features but no bloat then try one of the many light ROMs available for the i9505 from the 'i9505 Android development section'.
If you want a pure AOSP style ROM then look in the ' i9505 Original Android development' section.
I'm personally running the CM10.2 nightlies and they are awesome!
Have fun, happy flashing!
Remember dont update firmware MH8 if you dont want upgrade new bootloader.
Until now cant downgrade bootloader.
The problem I have is finding a rom that will work with my phone. If you guys could provide me with links that would be amazing. Does Cyanogenmod use the features the S4 offers such as the continuous keyboard, the LED, the hover capabilities etc?
On a side note. When I go to update the phone through the phone settings or comes up with a message saying I can't update because I have modified the phone. The only thing I have done is root it. But I have since unrooted it and reset the phone. So I don't know what the problem is. Thanks for being so understanding and helping me out

ANY ROM on the i9505 forum will work with your phone mate.
When you rooted your phone the binary counter was increased, to go back to a fully stock state to receive OTA updates you need to use Triangle Away app.
CyanogenMod uses LED but the hover gesture is Samsung proprietary so that's not included.
I think there's apps though that use the hover sensor.
The search button here on XDA is your friend mate. The answer to every question you've asked is on this site.

Hi Guys,
With the Android 4.3 update coming soon(btw i am from South Africa), i want to be able to update my phone.
My phone is rooted with no custom roms or kernels. I searched the web for the unroot "method" and it seems pretty simple to do it.
Most of the guides that i looked at(including the Xda one), does offer the South African firmware.
However when i went to look at the Baseband and CSC "code", i saw that it differed slightly.
Example : I9500XXUAMDE
Mine : I9500XXUAMDK
Should I be concerned about this and can I continue even though it differs?
(In other words will it be safe?)
Any help would be gladly appreciated
Thanks
Hello
I just bought a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Black Edition, and it came with Android 4.4.2 installed, knox ready.
Version: KOT49H.I9595XXUFNC4
Baseband: I9595XXUFNC4
A software upgrade is proposed by the system, and it's say that Knox 2.0 will be installed (versus 1.0 available for download)
According to sammobile, the upgrade will provide:
PDA: I9505XXUGNG8
CSC: I9505OXXGNG2
MODEM: I9505XXUGNG8
Is it safe to do this Stock Samsung rom upgrade before installing CM11 ???
The reason why I ask is because CM roms never upgrade bootlader/Baseband, etc...
On my previous GS3 GT-I9300, I experienced weird behaviour after some CM upgrade (about 1 year later). I finally went back to stock rom, in order to get fresh firmware (BL/BB/PDA), and after I reinstalled CM11, every problems were gone !
So I would enjoy to leave Stock Rom with latest firmware on my phone !
The other reason, is because on my G Pad (V500) I updated the system from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 before installing CM11.
Then installing TWRP and CM11 was really painfull to perform after the upgrade (all rooting procedure changed). What I discovered, of course, after the upgrade
Just to finish, I know that after CM11 installation, knox void flag will go to 0x1, which I really don't care, as I will never use Knox anyway...
Thanks for your help.
Fred
It really shouldn't make difference as you're on the 4.4.2 bootloader anyways.
Come on... Nobody here is using Cyanogenmod 11 M9 with latest firmware ?
aka upgraded Stock Rom to latest firmware before installing CM (full process: recovery and then rom) ?
Like memoryeffect said, it makes no difference

Thanks for your feedback.
I was asking because of Knox 2.0. But it seems that any changes bring by XXUGNG8 are only on software side.
Therefore, nothing should prevent to install CM11 M10 (or any other Rom) on the S4.
Cheers
Fred
Hi, I recently bought a second-hand Samsung Galaxy S4 (Screen is cracked the bottom + back camera also cracked.. it was only $10).
I want know what the best way to root this phone is. The most common tutorials I have seen are for GT-I9505 but the one I have is GT-I9506, not sure if it makes a massive difference but better safe than sorry. I am looking to root this phone and flash stock android on it, then get Xposed Framework. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Really dislike TouchWiz.
Details
Model Number: GT-I9506
Android Version 5.0.1
Baseband Version: I9506XXUDOL1
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-6151621
Build Number: LRX22C.I9506XXUDOL1
Thank you!

You could try this.
But you don't actually have to root it. You can flash a custom recovery and then flash a custom rom which is already rooted.
You only have to root it if you have to backup apps.
Hi All
I have a Samsung S4 I9500 in South Africa and recently it's been acting up on the Wifi - keep turning itself off and on.
I've tried pretty much every fix I could find from resetting the phone to Factory Default down to Battery Reset, etc.
My last hope is to root the phone and load the latest Android Version available for my phone before I finally shelve this phone for good.
I'm totally new to Rooting and google has been my friend - info is plentiful but my problem is I can't find a root file for my specific Build.
Below Some details for my Phone
Model - GT-I9500
Android Version - 5.0.1
Baseband Version - I9500XXUH0G2
Build Number - LRX22C.I9500XXUH0H6
Please can someone help me find the correct files required to root my phone?
Thanks a million

First flash TWRP, then flash Magisk and you will have Root. If you want to flash another ROM, root is not needed.
You can find eveyrhting about how to flash ROMs etc in my guides/collection. I recommend you to do clean install from scratch.
