Completely computer illiterate oldie here so please be patient. Got tablet Black Friday. Following you tube managed to get Playstore using Toolbox V10. Trying now to copy photos and music albums from laptop. Keep getting different scenarios. Currently, when tablet connected to laptop, File Explorer shows C drive and D drive (DVD) plus "Fire". Clicking Fire, page opens saying "This folder is empty". Opening Fire shows Properties - General - Fire - Manufacture -Amazon, Firmware Version 1.0 and serial number. Nothing else. I somehow seemed to be managing some transfers Saturday/yesterday "Fire" had on occasions "internal storage"" option. but when I access photos vis the Amazon Photos app, not all have been transferred. Likewise when I open the Audify Music app I downloaded, only 5 albums appear.
Tablet has USB Transfer turned on. In Storage - Internal Storage, there are 21 music albums and 13 photo albums but I have no idea how to access them from there.
I don't know if this helps but micro SD card is Kingston 32gb class10.
Tearing out what little hair is left - had anyone any advice please?

You must have disabled USB debugging in developer settings.

Unfortunately I can't go back and see what I was doing at the time I posted but strangely enough I have just this minute finished downloading the music and photos I want. I found it very easy to move by going back to Windows Media Player (which I have ignored for such a long time) on my laptop and syncing to my tablet SD card from there using VLC and Galley apps. Definitely had USB debugging on this time. Thanks for your reply though.

I transfered all my music from computer ove to my tab. Ok now when i go into the stock "music" app it says the media library is empty. It tell me to connect with usb to get music and to click for more info. I click for more info and it just closes the music app every single time! What should i do guys? Also if i try to download or save a photo from the browser it wont let me. This means im stuck with the **** wall paper this tab came with.... If i cant change my wallpaper to stuff i wanto download and i cant play any of my music i sware to god im not even going to senditback to amazon. Im just going to use it as a frisbeeee!
Edit- also 50% of the time i open my "galary" it says there are no pics or files in there. But the otherhalf ofthe time it reads them perfeectly well.... FML
To start off with not recognizing unknown sources, you have to go into settings>applications> unknown sources must be checked. That should let you download pictures from the web. For the music, did you drag and drop your music to the Music folder... And do you have Samsung kies for your computer that your plugging your tab into?
Edit: you should try restarting you tablet, I think that should fix the reading issue.
I already had unknown sources checked. I have the windows 7 kies which downloaded and installed with no hiccups. I used the file transfer promps that it gives me when i plug my tab into my windows 7pc. I restarted several times:-(
Edit- it turns out the downloading of a picture was just a certain web site i was on. It now works. Still no dice onthe over 7gof music i downloaded though. Also on walpapers. I downloaded a 1280x800 picture and when i go to set it as my wallpaper it will only let me selepart of the middle of the picture with a box i have to use like a cookie cutter?
Hey guys. Recently bought an a500 which I love.
I tried plugging in my Fuji hs10 camera into full size USB to display some of pics I took. As soon as I did, gallery was launched and eventually it showed contents of 8gb mem card in camera.
I was wanting to copy from camera so fired up astro file manager but it said there was nothing to display (on external USB). Tried es file manager but no luck. Only way I was able to get any pic off was to use the import button present in gallerybut this only works picture at a time.
I tried mounting the USB in settings but no joy.
Can anyone recommend a way if getting multiple pics if my camera. It obviously is possible as the camera connects and files can be transfered via gallery (although its a time consuming process)

Try again,
Plug in camera and import using Gallery......When you hit the -Touch here to import- overlay on your thumbnails for the camera photos it will open to show all your photos on your camera. By default they are all selected, so you just have to hit the import button in the upper right corner. If you touch any of the individual photos it will deselect that photo. Or you can deselect all from the items selected drop down menu. You can find your imported photos in the sdcard/Imported folder
Hi all,
When I connect my Nexus 7 to my Win7 x64 laptop the system doesn't mount the tablet to a drive letter. It's listed a simply "Nexus 7". I can browse to it, but when I show file details it looks like the OS is thinking everything must be some kind of media (like music files) because the explorer window doesn't show the"modification time". It shows instead Track Number, Artist, Album, Year, Duration.
Thinking it might be Windows Explorer I've also tried Free Commander (a file browser) and get the same results.
Anyone know of a way to get Windows to see the files as something other than music files so I can see all the normal file attributes, especially mod time? The reason I want to do this is I have a bunch of epub files on the tablet and when I get new epubs it's easiest to sort by mod time and compare what's on the tablet vs. what's on my PC and copy all the files newer than the newest file on the tablet. This worked great on my Nook Color, and would love to be able to do the same with the Nexus. Right now it's a real challenge to figure out what I need to copy.
Thanks for any help!
UPDATE: After looking around some more I discovered that Windows 7 is seeing the Nexus as a "Portable Media Player", which is probably why it didn't mount the storage to a drive letter and thinks all the files are some kind of media, thus the file attributes Windows Explorer is showing. So now I guess the question is, how can I get Windows to think this is more than just a media player, and I guess mount the storage to a drive letter like you'd do with a USB flash drive or an external hard drive?

Well, I feel a little foolish about being able to get the mod times on the files. I hardly ever use Windows Explorer so I didn't realize I could just click on the header area where it says "Name, Type, Size, etc.." and simply select "Modification Time". I clicked on that and Voila! the mod times were there for me.
But in the midst of my searching I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774556&highlight=portable+media+player
which had an interesting alternative called AirDroid:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
It allows you to view the files on your Android device via wifi from any web browser on your PC/MAC/etc. I tried this app out and although the transfers were quite slow it's a pretty nifty way to copy files to/from an Android device, and it showed me the modification times!

Hi all, noob to the s4. Was surprised when it didn't come with sd card. Read about the storage issues a bit. Wanted to put my music library in phone. Installed sd card- success. Camera recognized it, all pics go to the card. Loaded a metric ton of music on the card. Phone works great, all songs play just fine.
Now for the question- plugged the device to the pc for the first since installing the sd card. PC reads "phone" and "card" or something like that. Browse the card for the music files and only a fraction of the songs appear. More detail: My existing music library was mostly organized into artist folders, with a handful of song files not being in a folder. Well it is those songs that show up and only those songs, none of the couple hundred "folders" that have all the music. Weird or....
One last thing, and thanks in advance for your responses!
I am a picasa type of guy and that has always been my preferred viewer. When browsing existing phone camera photos on the pc, the thumbnails are really low res and the files only open with windows picture viewer. Any ideas why? Thanks again, I'm all ears.
I have a Shield TV. I attached a 2TB external HDD to this and set it up as internal storage. I then transferred a bunch of movies and pictures to internal storage and set up KODI. Everything was fine up until about a month or so ago. I am not sure when exactly.
I went to view some of the pictures and learned that the folders I had put my pictures, movies and TV shows in are no longer available. I cannot find them in KODI, X-plore, or ES File explorer. I would say they may have been deleted by mistake but it appears that I still have them somewhere based on the amount of storage available. I had used about 1TB. I still have just over 1TB used, which would indicate the files are still there somewhere. My problem is that I cannot seem to find them. I tried plugging the HDD into my windows 7 pc it doesn't recognize it.
Any thoughts on how I can go about finding these files? I do not want to reformat as I know they will be wiped.
I found them. I used the Analyze option on ES File Explore and found them buried in the recycle bin. Along with a number of there needed files and folders.
I am the only person that uses this Shield TV. I did not delete these files and folders. Does anyone have an idea of what may have happened so I can avoid in the future?
