Hello,
Long time listner....first time poster.
I've been using WMWIFI for home internet access now for a while. My laptop and desktop have no problems finding my mogul as an access point.
I just purchased a Playstation3 (mostly for the bluray). It has a wireless card built in to access some of Sony's online stuff.
My problem is that the PS3 cannot find my mogul as an access point. Any guesses? I've searched to earth's end, however, it doesn't seem there are many people trying to do what I am...and unfortunately I can't exactly call sprint and ask them.
Thanks for any help.
Found the answer...the PS3 will not connect to an Ad-hoc network...
Reported to not work
Nintendo DS
Nintendo Wii
PlayStation Portable
Unable to connect to a device providing internet using ad-hoc mode.
Do ya'll think that there is a way around this?
I don't have any other internet access (except for the mogul) but would like to get the PS3 connected.
i'm sure theres a way to rebroadcast from the PC

The psp can connect to an Ad-Hoc network (at least the last time I tried), don't know about the others. I just know under network settings on the psp you have to change it to ad-hoc mode.
Yes it can be done. you need a laptop or a desktop to act as a middle man.
If your desktop or laptop has a wireless / wired port, simply share the internet conenction from your phone to your PC.
plug in a wire from the ps3 to the PC
highlight the wireless icon, and the wired icon in your network manager and right click and hit bridge network connections.
it will work after that.

If you have a wireless router, that should make it all work. Set your mogul to connect to the wireless router and set the router to be 192.168.0.2 instead of its default. Now setup your devices with a static IP,on the same subnet and set the default gateway to be 192.168.0.1 (your moguls ip). In the earlier versions, this just works as is.
In the latest version, you will need to set some other settings on the phone as well. Go into your phones wifi settings and set the wifi adapter to 192.168.0.1 (earlier versions of wmwifirouter set this as the default, but the newer one is more flexible,so you need to specify this) Now,connect your wifi to your routers network. Next launch wmwifirouter. Clear the check mark next to dhcp allocator and adhoc netoworking. Network block should be set to the 192.168.0.x subnet. The router wont actually be used as a router, just as a network access point. Your mogul is actually the router. The clients are setup as before, with static IPs with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1.
This is how I connect my computer to the internet. I expect that it should work with any device that can be set with a static IP.
Thank you pflatlyne...
I have a wireless router but have not been using it as my computers can access the mogul directly. I will try your set up tonight.
Hopefully I can follow your instructions well enough to get it set up.
Thank you!!
WMwifiRouter and Xbox360
This did work with my 360 and WMwifiRouter. Had to config for my settings but it works!!! Yippee
EDIT
In case anyone asks, I did'nt need anything except my phone and 360. No router, or computer. Just fired up my wifi and entered the settings in my 360. It didn't see it, but it allowed me to edit my settings. I don't know about the PS3, wouldnt mind having one though. :..(
Hmmm....I still can't get it to work..
I'm not the most literate when it comes to how to do this.
Any chance of a detailed walkthrough on what to connect to what?
I have a desktop, an Actiontec wireless router, a wireless adapter for my desktop, mogul, and playstation....
Yes a step by step would be great. I have been trying to get the wireless router idea to work with no luck.
Mine works
What I did was what the other guy said with bridging the connection. once you connect your mogul to the computer and get online through the pc, connect an ethernet cable from your pc to the wifi routers main plug.
go to network connections
highlight your internet connection for the mogul and the one for the ethernet ( on my pc it is defaulted as internet connection 11 for the mogul and 12 for my NIC card) right click the highlighted connections and click bridge. connect the ps3 to one of the available hub slots and your ps3 should connect n/p.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A ROUTER...
you must purchase a cross over cable to get an internet connection directly from your pc to your ps3. the method is the exact same as above except no router.
Hi everybody,
A week ago I could cast from my phone to Shield TV while it was connected to ethernet.
But now it's not working anymore.
I tried to reboot, reconnect, factory settings etc but nothing works.
On WiFi it works fine.
I hope anybody can help me througth this because connecting to the ethernet is so much better.
Thanks in advance
Do you have a router setting like "set AP isolated"? That would stop you from communicating between clients.

I just checked. It was disabled.
Is your WiFi Access Point setup in bridge mode or router mode? If router mode, wireless devices are living in their own network subnet and are not in the same subnet as your ethernet devices so a wireless device won't see a Chromecast device (SATV) that is connected via ethernet and vise-versa. Set it to bridge mode and that should clear things up.
Hello! I just bought an nvidia shield tv and I have a problem: I need to connect it by ethernet with my nas in a private lan (not connect to internet) whereas for internet I'd like to use its wifi. By now it is connected by wifi and works well, but I can't ping it in the lan so I'd like to know if it's possibile to use the wifi for internet and its ethernet for a lan and if so how because i tried to change the parameters in network but both DHCP and static didn't work. I have a strange fear that the ethernet interface will be disabled if it detects a wifi connection, if so i am badly screwed (and with a useless shiled for my needs)
TY for your help!
Sorry can't help. But if a usual android device can do that, you could flash a usual android rom to your shield tv and try.
Check this out, still seems like alot of work to get it done.

Hi. I'm trying to cast from the cell to the Shield. YouTube is perfect, but the rest only goes if the Shield is connected to the network over WiFi. So it is connected to ethernet although it detects it, it does not work. Is it a problem with my router or does it happen to more people?
Thank you.
Have you checked whether your router is setup for DHCP and your connection setup on the Shield is doing the same ?
PSA:
There is a great (new?) option in Android 12 Developer option to get Wi-Fi debugging information.
It's called "Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging = ON"
I needed this option because I needed to debug the following scenario:
My upstairs desktop PC has no Wi-Fi card
So I flashed an old WRT54Gv8.1 router to dd-wrt
I then connected a CAT5 cable from the upstairs desktop RJ45 port to on of the four LAN ports of that dd-wrt router
Once I did that, I was able to log into the dd-wrt from the upstairs desktop PC to set up a wireless bridge to the downstairs router AP.
I first set that dd-wrt router to "wireless client bridge" mode
I then ran a dd-wrt "site survey" which found my 2.4GHz home router AP downstairs
I pressed the dd-wrt "join" button to wirelessly bridge to that downstairs 2.4GHz AP
Since it had encryption, I duplicated the 2.4Ghz home router SSID's authentication stuff
But I was initially having connection problems to the downstairs Netgear N router 2.4GHz access point...
At first I couldn't figure out why it didn't work (which is where the "Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging" debugging came in handy.
But after a few tests, I was able to get it to work by adding a powerful additional access point downstairs.
That powerful additional access point downstairs was a Ubiquti Rocket M2 radio I just happened to have lying around unused.
This gave me a LOT of networking power!
Particularly for my weak Android phone wi-fi connection!
By plugging the Rocket M2 into the downstairs router...
That instantly added another Wi-Fi access point downstairs
Which happened to be a far more powerful transmit power
And more importantly, it has far better receiver sensitivity
Overall, that connects the upstairs PC (which doesn't have Wi-Fi) via it's Ethernet port to the dd-wrt router which is then wirelessly bridged to the downstairs home router 2.4GHz SSID access point.
And, I can connect my Android phone when it's upstairs or downstairs to that powerful and sensitive new 2.4GHz access point.
The upstairs PC gets its Internet through the dd-wrt-to-downstairs-Rocket M2 AP client bridge
The Android phone upstairs can also connect wirelessly to that downstairs Rocket M2 access point
But the verbose wireless option showed me that the Android signal level isn't as good as it can be (given the weak WiFi of the Android phone).
But then I hit upon an idea...
... which gives the phone the PERFECT wi-fi connection upstairs!
Once I had the dd-wrt working in "Client Bridge Mode"/
I slightly modified the dd-wrt settings
I simply changed the dd-wrt "Wireless Client Bridge" selection to a wireless "Bridge Repeater"
And then I created a "virtual" SSID for that new wireless bridge repeater
Voila!
That accomplishes three things which pretty much make the entire setup almost perfect.
In fact, it's the best of all worlds when it works.
I converted the upstairs PC with only Ethernet, to a powerful Wi-Fi connection
At the same time, I added a "virtual access point" upstairs for the Android phone to connect to
Both the Android phone (when upstairs) & the upstairs PC have strong signal to the downstairs AP
And, best of all, when I go downstairs, the Android phone can still have strong signal because the phone can connect to the wireless client bridge that is downstairs wired to the home router (or it can connect to the home router original 2.4GHz & 5GHz access points).
It's perfect! (when it works).
And when it didn't work - I used the Android 12 Developer options "Wi-Fi verbose logging" to catch error messages.
